Abstract:
This thesis examines the role of the United States in United Nations military operations. In a future that will likely include more instances of U.N. security operations and a U.S. military having to make do with less resources, collective security operations are a logical choice for U.S. decision-makers. The study begins with a discussion of six types of U.N. military Operations, ranging in intensity from humanitarian aid to enforcement and punishment. The study also provides a decision model that accounts for the effects of elite and popular consensus domestically and internationally on the

This thesis examines the ability of the United Nations to use military forces to aid in the resolution of intrastate conflicts. The new spirit of multilateral activism has nurtured the belief that intervention in the internal conflicts of a state is legitimate and necessary to the peace and security of the world community at large. The purpose of this thesis is not to examine the validity of this claim. The purpose is to examine the ability of the United Nations to carry out this task. This dissertation uses bound labor as a lens for understanding the development of law, identity, and imperialism in the early seventeenth-century Caribbean. The Spanish, English, and French depended on bound labor, especially for their Caribbean possessions. However, the geographic proximity of their colonies and frequent warfare forced Europeans to negotiate across imperial boundaries to develop regional slave systems. at the heart of these negotiations, and the law of nations that they drew from, was the issue of reciprocity. The discourse regarding US/Russia relations focuses intensely on the competitive nature between these two powers. This paper offers an extensive analysis of three instances of cooperation between the US and Russia in Syria between 2011 and 2017 in order to offer concrete observations about how these antagonist
