The Army, despite having been vexed for a century on how to effectively fight the Plains Indians, ultimately defeated them only a decade after the Civil War. This thesis will bring to the forefront those individuals who adapted fighting techniques and ultimately achieved victories on the Texas frontier before the Civil War. The majority of these victories came as a result of mounted warfare under the direction of lower ranking officers in control of smaller forces. The work environment of a mobile crane is hazardous where accidents can cause serious injuries or death for workers and non-workers. Therefore, the risk for these accidents should be avoided when possible. One way to avoid the potential accidents is to use mobile crane simulations instead, which removes the risk. The use of a slim, high-pressure drilling riser for surface blowout preventer operations in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico was assessed as an alternative to conventional drilling procedures from floating units. Comparison of the low- and high-pressure system was accomplished through a detailed qualitative (assigned frequency) and quantitative (reported incidents) risk analysis using generic fault tree models to statistically determine the reliability of the system based on metocean conditions from the Gulf of Mexico.
