Abstract:
Chua Oscillator and its generalizations display a variety of chaotic behaviors, whose most startling manifestation is the presence of strange attractors. These come in many different shapes and sizes yet share a special kind of beauty. In the work reported in this paper, we explored the universe of these attractors — much of which is still virgin territory. We then recorded the most interesting and significant in a "Gallery of Chua attractors". In papers, published in previous issues of this journal, we showed how different versions of the Oscillator follow different "routes to chaos". Parts I

In this paper, we derive analytical formulations of the elastic energy of a stressed domain on a crystalline substrate. Taking care of the singularity of the elastic Green function at r = 0, we obtain a universal expression for the isotropic case. By using the analogy between electric dipolar and elastic interactions, we developed similar analytical calculations for the (001) surface of a cubic crystal. We showed that the anisotropy of the boundary energy and the anisotropy of the substrate govern the shape of the domains, favoring either compact shapes or stripe configurations. The analytical

For the design of surfaces in architecture, as a rule, universal techniques developed for other technical industries are used. First of all, these are general kinematic surfaces and interpolation cubic splines for modeling complex piecewise smooth surfaces. The authors propose to use the fourth degree inerodifferential spline developed by them for problems of geometric modeling of architectural forms. For calculations and constructions on a computer, the proposed spline is not much more complicated than traditional cubic splines, since it has one additional parameter - a coefficient. However,

Neutron stars represent one of the most exotic astronomical objects in the universe. In this article, a model describing the structure and properties of neutron stars will be considered, as well as the advantages of dense stars. The neutron star model is based on the idea that the core of a star, having exhausted its reserves of nuclear fuel, shrinks under its own gravity to an extremely high density. As a result, an object is formed consisting mainly of neutrons, and not of protons and electrons, as is the case with ordinary stars. The density of neutron stars can reach several million tons p

Abstract. The nonlinear deformation of long internal waves in the ocean is studied using the dispersionless Gardner equation. The process of nonlinear wave deformation is determined by the signs of the coefficients of the quadratic and cubic nonlinear terms; the breaking time depends only on their absolute values. The explicit formula for the Fourier spectrum of the deformed Riemann wave is derived and used to investigate the evolution of the spectrum of the initially pure sine wave. It is shown that the spectrum has exponential form for small times and a power asymptotic before breaking. The

The question whether the observed properties of galaxies are imprinted by the initial conditions of their formation or determined by different evolutionary processes is still open. In the local Universe, more than 60% of stars reside in elliptical galaxies and bulges of lenticular and spiral galaxies. The current paradigm separates galactic bulges into two broad categories, namely classical and disk-like bulges. In this scenario, we focus on the description of the bulge component i
