Full textThe history of Spain of the 20th century is marked by several major events as the foundation of the second Republic, the revolt of July 18th 1936, the civil war and the resulting Franco dictatorship until November 1975. Since July 1936, a purge of the administration begins, both on the side of the republicans and on the side of the rebels, to eliminate the members judged as "enemies". The university personnel, intellectual and dedicated to the education of the youth, are a primary target. It is in the Central university of Madrid, nowadays Complutense, where we have focused our attention for its geographical location and its essential role on research and education. Based on legislation, and more importantly on the purge files of the university personnel in Madrid, preserved in the General Archives of the Administration (Alcalá de Henares), we study the different purges that took place between 1936 and 1972 : the one started by the government of the Republic and the one from the rebels. We focus not only on the "negative" purge, the sanctioned personnel, but also on the "positive" purge, the personnel confirmed in their positions. In addition we speak about the punitive purge and also about the preventive one that allows control over the access to the university positions during long years. Finally, we also speak about the "self-purge", when the university personnel leave their positions to avoid becoming victims of the purge. Our intention is to evaluate the way of working, the evolution, scope, efficiency and the severity of these purges

Full textThis report is the result of 800 hours of internship at the International Relations Office of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM). The aim of this internship was to acquire knowledge of the reality and functioning of public higher education institutions in relation to international agreements and European mobility. This training was carried out for several different purposes such as supporting and increasing the implementation of cooperation protocols with other European higher 10 education institutions, facilitating integration and supporting foreign students within the Erasmus+ program and understanding the impact of Erasmus+ on national and foreign students, among others. Taking into account the specific objectives and competences of the International Relations Office at UCM, and in particular those belonging to the Erasmus Department, a framework has been established in order to introduce the entity and its scope in the international field of higher education. In addition to a description and analysis of the tasks carried out by the intern, this report is intended to be a reflection of the importance and relevance of international mobility to stimulate a sense of European identity among young people and make them more open and tolerant. This report therefore essentially seeks to analyse the Erasmus+ programme in higher education and, more specifically, its impact on the students involved.

Leishmania infantum is the etiologic agent of canine leishmaniosis (CanL) in Europe, the disease being endemic throughout the Mediterranean basin. In these endemic regions, the seroprevalence of the infection may reach values higher than 30%. Recently, the distribution of leishmaniosis has increased and new outbreaks have been detected in previously free regions of the disease. Climate change, increased movements of infected animals between different regions of the world and the expansion of parasite dispersal areas are potential causes of this phenomenon. The life cycle of the parasite involves a vector and a vertebrate host. Insects of the genus Phlebotomus are responsible for the transmission of metacyclic promastigotes through bites in the dog, these being respectively the infecting forms and the vertebrate host of the parasite. The dog is considered the largest reservoir of the parasite for humans and other mammals, and in Portugal only the species Phlebotomus-ariasi and Phlebotomus-perniciosus are confirmed vectors of L. infantum. Leishmania main mode of transmission involves sand flies, other modes of transmission include blood transfusions from infected dogs, transplacental transmission and venereal transmission. The clinical manifestations of LCan are broad and varied due to the numerous pathophysiological mechanisms triggered by the protozoan. In turn, they promote different immune responses in the host and affect multiple organs with different degrees of severity. Appropriate and timely treatment requires, first and foremost, a correct and early diagnosis of the disease, involving careful clinical examination, complementary examinations and determination of the animal's health and immune status. On the other hand, prevention requires a combined approach, focused on both the animal and the environment where the vector is abundant. Significant efforts have been made in the last decades to develop disease control strategies, with synthetic pyrethroids-based vaccination and repellent promising to prevent and control the disease. This study consisted in a description of four clinical cases of dogs that were observed at the Hospital Clínico Veterinário Complutense during the curricular practice period (from September till November, 2016). It was possible to observe clinical signs as lymphadenopathy, skin lesions, ocular lesions, onychogryphosis and weight loss. The therapeutic protocols used were the combination of meglumine antimoniate, allopurinol, miltefosin and marbofoxacin. After treatment regular monitoring was required.
