Full textIn the sierra nevada of merida, in a national park, the peasants name themselves "wheat people" - this cereal is cultivated in the region since the beginning of the colonial period - as well as "highland people" - they live near the "paramo" summits. This double identity can be lived as a contradictory experience and requires to keep up intricate relationships with the environment. Following the local space categories, practices are related to the ways of inhabiting, cultivating, using and also taming the environment. From the house to the paramo, we study in detail agrarian practices and knowledges, the sharing of tasks and territories between men and women on the one hand, between human beings and mountain spirits on the other hand. Those spaces correspond with different sociabilities, analized according to a temporal axis. Seasons and religious celebrations give rythm the life of the households, which are related to kinship and "compadrazgo" relationships. Forms of work organisation and eating habits stengthen the feeling of community adherence and show some essential social values. After analysis of life time and body perception - feminine, masculine - oral tradition is also studied, in particular a mythology which reveals the problem of crossbreeding. Isolated from the rest of the population, the inhabitants feel sometimes desarmed in their relationship with others (park) and with change (city), in spite they show real capacities to migrate, adapt and bring changes
Angel, Ceballos Isandra Fortuna. "Late Pleistocene deglaciation histories in the central Mérida Andes (Venezuela)." Thesis, Université Grenoble Alpes (ComUE), 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016GREAU002/document.
Full textThe central Mérida Andes (Venezuela) landscape is characterized by the presence of well-preserved glacial landforms located between 2400 and 4978 m a.s.l. Geomorphological studies of these glacial landforms significantly contribute to the Venezuelan Andes glaciations reconstructions. However, Last Glaciation (locally called Mérida Glaciation) was poorly reconstructed because of limited chronological data. This dissertation attempts to contribute to the Last Glaciation reconstruction and paleoclimate knowledge since the late Pleistocene. Accordance this necessity, the methodology involved geomorphological analysis and geochronological study. Glacial landforms were dated based on the Terrestrial Cosmogenic Nuclide dating (10Be). This method is suitable for date quartz-rich materials and for the period of interest. To deduce paleoclimate conditions an analysis based on paleo ELA was developed. In the central Mérida Andes different Late Pleistocene glacier dynamics were identified. In the Mucubají and the Mucuchache valleys, successive stages of glacier stop-advance were identified during an overall glacier withdrawal. In the Gavidia and Mifafí valleys, glacier withdrawal was rapid with the highest retreat rates (between 4-7 km/ky). Morphometric features as glaciers bottom valley slopes, accumulation zone topography (glaciers cirques with steep walls), areas and orientation controlled different glaciers dynamics.Glacier advances were evidenced between 2500-4200 m. MIS 3 glaciers advances has been recognized in the Sierra Nevada. These were related to the highest runoff in the north of South America produced by the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and the local warm and wet climate conditions (locally named El Pedregal Interstadial). LGM glacier advances were recorded in Sierra Nevada in the Mucubají and Las Tapias between 3100-3600 m. MIS 2 Glaciers advances mainly occurred during the Oldest Dryas- El Caballo Stadial at around 17 ka. These glaciers advances correlate to the cold temperatures in the North Hemisphere and the coldest temperatures recorded in tropical ice cores.KeywordsTerrestrial cosmogenic nuclides dating, TCN, cosmogenic dating, glacial landforms, Andes Mérida, Venezuela. Full textThe geology of the Merida Andes is well described at the surface, but its deep structure remains hypothetic. Our work integrated various information coming from geological observations, satellite images and geophysical data to propose a crustal scale deformation model of the mountain belt. In order to better understand the role played by the Bocono fault in the orogeny, we carried out a geomorpho-structural study in the La Gonzalez basin which opening is directly related to the movement along the fault. Based on balanced geological cross-sections and the orogenic float concept, we established a deformation model that explains both the strain partitioning and the escape processes. Major faults traces were used to build a 3D geological model of the orogen. The model shows that the escape of the Trujillo block is controlled by both lateral compression and gravity forces. Finally, we validated the escape model using a 2D numerical simulation that allows a better constraint of the distribution of the deformation. The northward movement of the Trujillo block is not only related to a rigid extrusion controlled by the collision of the Maracaibo block with the Guyana shield. Indeed, roughly one-third of the escape is taken by other processes among which gravitational collapse of the Trujillo block and possibly a slab succion of the south Caribbean subduction zone may play an important role

Full textThe northeastern part of The Mérida Andes shows a consecution of complex tectonic events. There, they were recorded successively: (1) the Jurassic rifting with formation of NE - SW grabens in which the red sediments of the La Quinta Formation were deposited; (2) the Caribbean orogeny (the last superior Cretaceous at the early Oligocene) with the remobilization of the Lara napes to their current position. This phase is characterized by the presence of orientation N070ʿ to N150ʿE; (3) the Fm. Morán and the Caribbean's units were removed and displaced toward the ESE at the moment of the compression ESE - WNW that could correspond to the phase N105ʿE of Stéphan (1982), previous to the middle Miocene; (4) the Andean phase, NE - SW to NNW - SSE that begins in the Miocene. This last is responsible for the birth of the NE - SW folds that sometimes comes from the reactivation of Jurassic grabens. Close to the right slip subverticales fault, the efforts turns or they change their orientation in anti timetable to arrive to N100ʿE. The relays of the strike-slip fault or their change in direction believe transpression areas (structures in flower) or in transtension (rhomboedric basins); (5) between the El Empedrado and Boconó faults, the present constraint is oriented NNE - SSW, having for consequence to reverse the game of the subverticales accidents (senestrals, then dextrals). The important difference created along the basins in transtension NE - SW transtension of the La Pastora drags a flexure of the covering and the formation of the San Pedro "drapage" folds. To the north of the Boconó fault and the east of the Valera fault, Trujillo's block is cut in several compartments by subverticales left strike-slip faults. Our field observations inside these compartments and in their limit, as well as the taken slip vectors of the focal mechanisms of earthquakes, they confirm that Trujillo's block escapes laterally toward the north or the northeast. To the east of the El Empedrado fault, this movement lateral is counteracting for the presence of the Caribbean napes more to the north

Full textAs professors of French as a Foreign Language (FFL) at the University of Los Andes (ULA) in Mérida, Venezuela, we are interested in identifying the factors that may explain the poor performance of students of FFL at the end of a 5-year degree involving the study of Modern Languages. We have adopted the concept of Linguistic Attitude (LA) from the field of sociolinguistics with the purpose of analyzing the difficulties encountered by these students in order to evaluate the attitude of students in regard to the target language (French). The concept of Linguistic Attitude serves as a rigorous tool for measuring both, the motivation and representation of students, which constitute two key aspects to be considered in the teaching approach used in teaching foreign languages (PFL) as well as in the learning process of students. We used the experimental protocol to create the questionnaire to be able to measure the students’ Linguistic Attitudes. The Delphi method was used for the creation of the questionnaire (thus updating the instructors’ and students’ representations about the French language and its learning process at ULA). During the second phase, the questionnaire was applied to two groups of students of FFL (from the A and B semesters of the year 2014) at three different points in time. During the period between the second and third application, a pedagogical intervention took place. The research was completed by conducting interviews to the instructors in charge of the courses. The results were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The findings show that, in general terms, students manifest positive Linguistic Attitudes and representations with underlying instrumental motivations. Due to the very small variation observed after the pedagogical interventions, we find it necessary to propose new teaching approaches

This thesis was conducted at the University of Los Andes (ULA) - Venezuela on ICT competency of teachers for teaching using virtual environments. Through qualitative research multifocus mixed methods where the prevailing descriptive character design, an evaluation plan for teacher education at the University, implemented in recent years by the Coordination of Interactive Distance Learning (CEIDIS) was performed and instruments were applied to establish the profile of ICT teacher competencies supported in international standards in ICT Competency for teachers, including the Chilean Ministry of Education and UNESCO, as well as indicators of other research projects. This research defines competences and those required in which the teaching of the ULA should be trained for the application of ICT in teaching and learning. Currently in the institution some courses are offered only through CEIDIS and Teacher Upgrading Program (PAD), which have tried some of these elements. Among the findings highlighted that teachers ULA is at a low to intermediate in all dimensions of ICT competency, however, most who participated in the study, positively perceived major benefits of ICT in teaching and learning, representing a strength to continue advancing in their training. The profile of ICT teachers ULA competence is established and based on this, as well as the needs, weaknesses, strengths and improvements raised by teachers who have received training in recent years by the CEIDIS, a design is proposed training plan that includes five dimensions of teacher ICT competence.
