L'autore intende presentare all'attenzione degli studiosi un primissimo spaccato del mondo giudiziario penale padovano in relazione alla questioni scientifico forensi. La base di ricerca č quella dell'archivio del Maleficio del rettorato di Padova e il corpus enucleato fa riferimento al lavoro dell'avvocato Zorzi Marenzi tra il 1751 e il 1757. In particolare si mettono in evidenza le opzioni difensive di questo avvocato quando la sua attivitÀ incontra il problema del reato di aborto, e la strada che sembrano aprire in relazione all'utilizzo della consulenza scientifica di estrazione accademica nel processo. La cittÀ in oggetto č la sede tradizionale di una delle piů prestigiose universitÀ occidentali, ma l'incontro con l'amministrazione del diritto delle istituzioni della Repubblica di Venezia č controverso e non lineare. Anche la elaborazione delle difese risentirÀ, in positivo e in negativo, delle difficoltÀ di questo incontro, e Marenzi, figura magistrale del foro di Padova per trentotto anni, conoscerÀ la sconfitta.

Abstract:

Negli Stati Uniti la performance delle università si misura anche nella capacità di sfornare business importanti. In Italia, invece, il ruolo delle università come culla dell'imprenditorialità non è mai stato sottolineato. In questo articolo ci si domanda se ancora oggi l'università sia un attore marginale o debba altresì cambiare la percezione della società nei suoi confronti, da culla del sapere scientifico a incubatrice di imprenditorialità. In particolare, l'articolo riflette sull'impatto dell'Università di Padova nello sviluppo dell'economia locale e nello sviluppo di processi di creazione d'impresa da parte dei suoi laureati. Al fine di approfondire il fenomeno si sono intersecate le informazioni relative ai laureati e alle imprese e si è anche svolta una survey tra marzo e maggio 2017 che ha visto coinvolte 315 aziende, create da laureati UniPD, selezionate attraverso un campionamento stratificato per ragione sociale e momento di fondazione.

Abstract:

Lo studio analizza le caratteristiche e i risultati delle collaborazioni università-impresa legati all'innovazione orientata alla sostenibilità, sulla base dell'analisi di una banca dati originale di oltre 350 contratti di consulenza e ricerca realizzati da oltre 70 professori specializzati in discipline connesse alla sostenibilità ambientale dell'Università di Padova (periodo 2008-2012). Ne emerge che le performance economico-finanziarie delle imprese che collaborano sono positivamente associate alla collaborazione con l'Università; maggiore è il numero di contratti, migliore la performance economica. Tale vantaggio è maggiore per le imprese più piccole, non manifatturiere e localizzate fuori dal Veneto. Al contrario, il coinvolgimento dei professori con imprese per supportare innovazione ambientale non contribuisce a migliori performance di ricerca, misurate in termini di pubblicazioni. Le caratteristiche della rete del professore impattano invece sulle sue performance di ricerca.

Abstract:

This work aims at illustrating to illustrate the design and the first results of a survey which involved 1849 university professors who were teaching courses at Bachelor's and Master's Degrees of University of Padova during the academic year 2012/13. The research is part of a project of improvement of the academic educational innovation and the quality of academic teaching. The kind of approach is an evaluative research which was conducted within the academic organization and carried out among peers, using a quali-quantitative mixed method. The data was directly obtained using a CAWI questionnaire which was distributed to the whole teaching staff, and it was linked to administrative data related to the educational offer and students' evaluation of teaching in the same academic year. After a preliminary analysis of the factors which affected the probability of answering to the questionnaire, the results were summarized using some indicators which showed the diffusion of good practices of teaching, support needs, beliefs, interest and availability of the respondents to discuss more extensively the questions of the survey. The results are presented considering as reference context of teaching action and learning activities the eight Schools into which the degree courses are organized. Lastly, we identified sub-groups of potential participants for the qualitative phase of the research: they were characterized by different levels of professional practice and interest in innovating university teaching and they will be the right subjects to involve in different and integrated activities directed to develop teachers' professional competences.

Abstract:

Globalization and the development of modern education systems make foreign students more important in higher education. In Indonesia, in recent years the number of international students has increased. International students, supervisors, and institutions are trying to identify possible ways that can help foreign students adapt to the Indonesian environment, which has its uniqueness. This research aims to investigate the level of acculturative stress experienced by international students of Airlangga University, Indonesia. Specifically, it focused on international students of master programs originating from countries on the African continent. This research was quantitative research. Participants in this research were 40 students. Participants were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The questionnaire was used to collect data and the results were analyzed using SPSS software. Acculturative Stress Scale for International Students (ASSIS) was used to determine the homesickness experienced by the participants. This research found that significant positive acculturative stress among international students (SD=23.87333), (mean=3.00) on homesickness. The result shows that international students experience homesickness because of not having experience living in a different culture and country. The results showed that African students are experiencing high homesickness.

Abstract In 2016 the University of Padova and its Language Centre (Centro Linguistico di Ateneo – CLA) became involved in the two-year “Cultura e accoglienza” Project (see Dalziel and Piazzoli in this volume), the aim of which was to encourage around 30 refugees and asylum seekers to pursue university studies by means of a personalized training programme with support from language teachers and tutors. This report first describes some of the main national projects regarding the inclusion of refugee/asylum seekers in Italy and then describes the “Cultura e accoglienza” project, highlighting some of the opportunities and challenges it presented. For the Language Centre this was the very first experience of this kind.

Here, we reconstruct the history of the Botanic Garden of Brera of Milan from the Restoration of the Austrian Empire up to the early years of the Kingdom of Italy, when in 1863 the garden passed hands from the Liceo di Sant’Alessandro to the Istituto Tecnico Superiore of Milan. The reconstruction is based mostly on unpublished documentation preserved at the Archivio di Stato of Milan, the Biblioteca Braidense of Milan, the libraries of the Museo di Storia Naturale of Milan and the Archivio di Stato of Milan, the Archivio del Liceo Classico Statale Cesare Beccaria of Milan, the historical archives of the Politecnico of Milan, the Biblioteca di Biologia Vegetale, Dipartimento di Scienze della Vita e Biologia dei Sistemi, University of Turin, the Autografoteca Botanica of the Botanical Garden of the University of Modena, and the library of the Botanical Garden of the University of Padova. Overall, the period was one of slow decline for the Botanic Garden of Brera, against which successive directors – namely, Antonio Bodei, Francesco Enrico Acerbi, Giuseppe Balsamo Crivelli, Vincenzo Masserotti and Giustino Arpesani – combatted in vain. In particular, Balsamo Crivelli fought with great passion for many years to keep the level of the Botanic Garden of Brera at a satisfactory level, but he did not achieve the desired aim. However, he complied a partial list of the garden’s plants, of which an updated version is presented here.

Abstract:

Maurizio Lazzarato, filósofo e sociólogo italiano, é um dos maiores críticos do capitalismo da atualidade. Em sua juventude, na Itália, estudou Ciências Políticas na Università di Padova e participou ativamente da autonomia operaia, movimento de grandes lutas operárias que ocorreram principalmente no norte da Itália, demonstrando seu forte engajamento político. Forçado a se exilar na França, em 1982, lá começava uma nova etapa em sua vida. Depois de ter exercido diversos tipos de trabalho nos primeiros anos – para ele, duros no sentido econômico, mas divertidos do ponto de vista de experiência de vida –, ingressava na Université Paris 8. A partir de então, Lazzarato será cada vez mais influenciado pelo pensamento da dupla de pensadores Gilles Deleuze e Félix Guattari, cujo resultado aparecerá em suas obras mais recentes, como Signos, máquinas, subjetividades. No Brasil, sua pesquisa é conhecida de forma segmentada, parcelar. Suas únicas obras publicadas até 2010 eram Trabalho imaterial e As revoluções do capitalismo, cujas páginas estão longe de representar a plenitude do pensamento mais recente de Lazzarato. Sobre o conceito do “trabalho imaterial”, largamente discutido no Brasil, é necessário salientar que foi usado somente em seus primeiros escritos, e nunca mais retomado pelo autor, que recusa fortemente a ideia dos desdobramentos posteriores de tal conceito, como “trabalho cognitivo”.

Abstract:

Periodontal disease is the most common disease affecting pet animals including cats and dogs. This disease can cause pain and discomfort affecting the animal’s life quality. The purpose of this study is to evaluate periodontal disease from dental radiographs taken from male domestic short hair cats. Eight male domestic short hair cats from Universitas Padjadjaran Jatinangor campus were recruited for the study. This study observed several changes within the periodontium from dental radiography with simple quantification and analyzed using descriptive analysis. Dental radiographs were taken on the second right mandibula premolar (408). Several changes found in the dental radiography including widening of the periodontal ligament, bone loss and furcation involvement. This study shows varied changes in the periodontium due to the cat’s immune responses. The examined cats were experiencing widening of the periodontal ligament, bone loss and furcation involvement (37.5%, 25% and 87.5%) respectively. All cats examined were experiencing periodontal disease.

SummaryA conservation scheme for local poultry breeds from the Veneto region (Italy), the Co.Va. (Conservazione e Valorizzazione di Razze Avicole Locali Venete - Conservation and valorisation of local poultry genetic resources of Veneto region) project began in 2000 with finance provided by the Veneto Region. This project involved four organic farms located in different areas (mountain, hill and plain) in the region. The local chicken breeds included in the project were the Robusta Maculata, Robusta Lionata, Ermellinata di Rovigo, Pépoi and Padovana; the local duck breeds were the Germana Veneta and Mignon; the local turkey breeds were the Bronzato Comune and Ermellinato di Rovigo; and the local guinea fowl breed was the Camosciata. All breeds are dual-purpose breeds and are utilized for meat and egg production. The Department of Animal Science of the University of Padova planned a marker-assisted conservation scheme based on the maintenance and multiplication of these breeds within their production system (in situ conservation scheme). The objectives of the farmers involved in this project were to use these genotypes to generate typical regional products for local markets, to support the development of economically marginal areas through the revaluation of local breeds and to allow the preservation of animal biodiversity.

Abstract:

Neste artigo apresenta-se o modelo criado a partir da avaliação dos dados do Estudo de Caso Piloto, sucessivamente implementado e analisando no estudo de Caso múltiplo. Esta pesquisa nasce do desejo de compartilhar reflexões sobre as experiências de estágio no exterior de doze alunos dos cursos de graduação em Ciências da Educação e da Formação da Universidade de Padova (UNIPD) - Itália. Entre os anos de 2012 e 2015, estes alunos desenvolveram o estágio curricular na cidade de Petrolina-PE, Brasil. A combinação de mobilidade internacional para estágios no exterior, participação a projetos de extensão das universidades locais e aprendizagem através do serviço solidário nas comunidades, criou um ambiente estimulante a partir de diferentes pontos de vista. Em 2015, a existência de um acordo bilateral entre a UNIPD e a UNEB, e a assinatura de um acordo de Co-Tutela de Tese de doutoramento entre o curso de Ciências Pedagógicas, da Educação e da Formação FISPPA, UNIPD e o Programa de Pós Graduação em Educação e contemporaneidade da UNEB, criaram as condições para o planejamento e a realização de uma investigação com o intuito de sistematizar a experiência existente. A pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar e desenvolver justificadamente um modelo inovador de Internacionalização de propostas de responsabilidade social da Universidade, através da mobilidade internacional de estudantes de graduação, com caminhos mistos de estudo e estágio no exterior. Escolheu-se o Estudo de Caso como a metodologia mais adequada à pesquisa pelo fato de que é um estudo empírico que tem como objetivo investigar um fenômeno contemporâneo em seu contexto real, quando as fronteiras entre o fenômeno e o contexto não são claramente evidentes (Yin, 1994). No específico, o projeto de pesquisa previu um Estudo de Caso Piloto e um Estudo de caso Múltiplo.

Abstract:

Evaluation of the clinical learning environment is essential because it can improve the success of students undergoing clinical practice in hospitals. With this evaluation, the clinical learning environment will be better and have an impact on nursing institutions that can prepare good quality graduate students. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical learning environment of nursing profession students in hospitals. The research design used descriptive and involved 229 professional nursing students consisting of 23 and 24 batches of Nursing at the University of Jember, which were collected by using total sampling. The results of the evaluation of the clinical learning environment of professional nurses in hospitals showed an average score of 132.7 from the maximum score 170. Every indicator has an average value and the percentage of achievement starting from the highest to the lowest; the relationship of supervision (clinical supervisor or clinical instructor) with an average of 31.10 (77.75%), leadership style of the inpatient ward manajer with an average of 15, 41 (77.05%), the role of nurse lecturers (academic lecturers) with an average of 34.02 (75.60%), nursing service places with an average of 15.05 (75.25%) and an atmosphere of learning strategies with an average of 33.25 (73.25) and overall student satisfaction obtained an average value of 3.92 (78.40%). The results of the study show that nursing students is still not fully satisfied toward clinical learning environment. It must be improved to provide a suitable clinical learning environment so that students feel satisfied and clinical competence can be achieved.

In Italy, the National Health System (NHS) costs are controlled by the regional governments (which are financially accountable for health care expenditure, including hospital drug budgets), but agreements regarding price and discounts are decided in AIFA (Italian Medicine Agency). For this reason, some regional governments ask the pharmaceutical companies to produce a "Health Technology Assessment" before deciding to introduce a drug in the regional hospital list of accepted drugs. Thus, in terms of public policy maker and its decision process, the choice of well-specified points of view is an essential ingredient in the critical assessment of economic evaluation, which becomes more effective when information is presented in the general terms of a cost of illness analysis (COI), or, in a disaggregated way by means of a list of the costs and the outcomes or consequences of the intervention, namely as a cost consequence analysis (CCA). Furthermore, while it has been observed that economic evaluations are usually performed in different countries at national level, in local health care decision making there is lack of health economic data and evaluations, disconnecting economic evaluations from the types of decision that local institutions must normally face. The University of Padova financed a composite and interdisciplinary group of researchers to develop a proof-of-concept like program aimed at serving the Veneto region as a template for the evaluation of the impact of (high-cost) drugs. The program, financed as “Progetti di Ateneo” 2009, (Code CPDA093183/09, "Modello per la valutazione dell'impatto economico, sociale e di salute derivante dall'utilizzo dei nuovi farmaci oncologici nella regione Veneto") has come now to its end and this report represents the outcome of a two-year intense research work. Gratefully, the leading investigators acknowledge the contribution of the entire EIHCD-VeRo Research Project Agreement for their help and cooperation at the various stages of the project development.

Latar Belakang: Sebesar 8.7% penduduk usia >18 tahun mengalami gizi kurang. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa permasalahan gizi di Indonesia masih menjadi masalah kesehatan utama. Pada periode remaja hingga dewasa, seseorang memerlukan asupan gizi yang seimbang. Akan tetapi karena adanya keinginan memiliki tubuh yang ideal menyebabkan periode tersebut rentan terhadap pembatasan asupan makan. Pengetahuan yang baik mengenai gizi dapat mempengaruhi asupan makan seseorangan sehingga akan berdampak pula terhadap status gizinya.Tujuan: Mengetahui perbedaan pengetahuan gizi, body image, asupan energi, dan status gizi pada mahasiswi gizi dan non gizi Universitas Diponegoro.Metode: Jenis penelitian cross sectional yang dilakukan pada 80 mahasiswi semester 4 di Fakultas Kedokteran dan Fakultas Hukum Universitas Diponegoro. Data yang diambil adalah data mengenai identitas diri, dan kuesioner yang meliputi pengetahuan gizi, body image, asupan energi yang diperoleh dari recall 3x24 jam, serta status gizi yg diperoleh dari berat badan dan tinggi badan. Analisa data menggunakan uji beda Mann Whitney antara kelompok mahasiswi gizi dan mahasiswi non gizi.Hasil: Sebanyak 80 subjek mahasiswi usia 19-21 tahun, terdiri dari 40 mahasiswi gizi dan 40 mahasiswi non gizi. Rerata skor pengetahuan gizi pada mahasiswi gizi sebesar 91.375 ± 7.069, sedangkan non gizi sebesar 66.625 ± 14.909. Rerata skor body image pada mahasiswi gizi sebesar 82.200 ± 23.848, sedangkan non gizi sebesar 86.975 ± 32.506. Sebesar 60% dari keseluruhan subjek belum memiliki asupan energi cukup dan sebesar 67.5% dari keseluruhan subjek memiliki status gizi yang baik. Uji beda: pengetahuan gizi (p=0.00), body image (p=0.155), asupan energi (p=0.162), dan status gizi (p=0.34).Simpulan: Terdapat perbedaan pengetahuan gizi yang bermakna antara kelompok mahasiswi gizi dan non gizi. Sedangkan tidak terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna pada body image, asupan energi dan status gizi.

Monyet ekor panjang(Macaca fascicularis)merupakan salah satu jenis satwa yang hidup di kawasan Pura Pulaki dan Melanting, Banyupoh, Gerokgak, Buleleng, Bali.Keberadaanya berfungsi sebagai salah satu elemen penyeimbang ekosisistem lingkungan dan daya tarik pariwisata yang memiliki kontibusi besar terhadap perekonomian masyarakat sekitar. Ancaman kesehatan pada monyet ekor panjang yang hidup di kawasan yang terdapat aktivitas manusia salah satunya adalah penyakit cacing gastrointestinal. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui prevalensi dan identifikasi parasit cacing gastrointestinal pada monyet ekorpanjang di kawasan Pura Pulaki. Sejumlah 55 sampel feses yang diawetkan menggunakan media kalium bikromat 2% diperiksa di Laboratorium Parasitologi,Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan,Universitas Udayana. Pemeriksaan dilakukan dengan metode pengapungan dan sedimentasi untuk mengetahui adanya infeksi cacing. Data yang diperoleh dikumpulkan dan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa prevalensi infeksi parasit cacing pada monyet ekor panjang di kawasan Pura Pulaki sebesar 71,18%. Cacing gastrointestinal yang terindentifikasi adalahAncylostoma sp.(74,5%), Strongyloides sp.(29%) dan Trichuris sp.(1,8%).Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa sebagain besar anggota populasi monyet di kawasan Pura Pulaki terinfeksi cacing gastroistestinal.Kata-kata kunci: prevalensi infeksi cacing; cacing gastrointestinal; monyet ekor panjang; kawasan Pura PulakiABSTRACTLong-tailed macaque is one of the faunasthat lived in Pulakiand MelantingTemple area, at Banyupoh, Gerokgak, Buleleng, Bali. Examination was carried out by the floatation and sedimentation methods to determine the presence of worm infections. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the prevalence of worm parasitic infections in long-tailed macaques in the Pulaki Temple area was 71,18%. Latar Belakang : Gizi pada dewasa awal lebih dibutuhkan untuk mencegah penyakit dan meningkatkan kesehatan. Perubahan yang terjadi pada masa ini salah satunya adalah perubahan komposisi tubuh dan kebutuhan energi. Dewasa awal terutama wanita mempunyai kepedulian yang lebih besar terhadap masalah penampilan fisik. Pengetahuan gizi membuat mereka lebih mengetahui tentang asupan zat gizi dan prakteknya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan pengetahuan gizi, sikap dan asupan zat gizi pada dewasa awal.Metode : Studi cross sectional pada 50 mahasiswi di LPP Graha Wisata dan Sastra Inggris Universitas Diponegoro Semarang. Sampel diambil secara simple random sampling. Data yang dikumpulkan adalah data identitas yang diukur dengan menggunakan kuesioner, data berat badan dan tinggi badan diukur dengan pengukuran berat badan dan tinggi badan, asupan energi, lemak, protein, cairan dan serat diukur dengan menggunakan formulir food recall selama tiga hari, pengetahuan gizi dan sikap diukur dengan menggunakan kuesioner pengetahuan gizi dan sikap. Analisis data untuk asupan zat gizi dengan uji independent t-test dan untuk pengetahuan gizi dan sikap dengan uji mann whitney dengan bantuan SPSS 17.0 for windows.Hasil : Pengetahuan gizi dewasa awal termasuk kategori kurang. Asupan energi kategori defisit (48%). Asupan lemak kategori baik (40%). Asupan protein kategori defisit (70%). Asupan cairan kategori defisit (90%). Asupan serat kategori defisit (100%). Tidak terdapat perbedaan asupan energi, lemak, protein, serat dan sikap (p=0,771; p=0,628; p=0,778; p=0,923; 0,344), tetapi ada perbedaan pengetahuan gizi dan asupan cairan pada kedua kelompok (p=0,048 dan p=0,000).Kesimpulan : Tidak terdapat perbedaan asupan energi, lemak, protein, serat dan sikap, tetapi ada perbedaan pengetahuan gizi dan asupan cairan antara mahasiswi LPP Graha Wisata dan Sastra Inggris Universitas Diponegoro Semarang.

Abstract Introduction: Previous studies demonstrated that sickle cell disease (SCD), HIV and Tuberculosis (TB) represent high, yet under recognized health issues in Guinea Bissau, West Africa. A public National Reference Center for TB, Hospital Raoul Follereau (HRF) managed by the Italian NGO AHEAD is present in the capital city of Bissau with specialized local health staff capable of managing HIV and TB; the hospital has a SCD Clinic. Access to health services for rural population is limited and in some villages basic health care and routine screening are also seldom available due to lack of resources, specialized staff or diagnostic capacity. Therefore, people are not diagnosed or diagnosed late for SCD, HIV, TB. Nevertheless, rapid tests for both HIV and SCD are available on the market and one for TB is being developed. Simultaneous screening of three big diseases at the point of care (POC) in rural areas would allow saving of time and resources, while identifying people in need of further specialized diagnostic or follow up. Objectives: To evaluate the feasibility of simultaneous screening of HIV, SCD and TB at the POC in a rural area of Guinea Bissau through rapid tests for HIV and SCD and a standardized clinical questionnaire (Figure 1) with clinical examination for TB. To identify patients with HIV, SCD or both and enroll them in appropriate follow up programs; to identify suspects of TB eligible for in depth diagnostic screening. Methods: During the first phase of the project a temporary outreach health post was organized for 10 days in March 2018 in the village of Fanhè, by the NGO AGB already operating in the village. 1) The chiefs of the rural community village informed all the households through collective meetings and home visits regarding the objectives and modalities of the health project after accepting the proposal made by the NGOs and the HRF staff (February-March 2018); 2) the local chiefs organized a schedule of visits according to households; 3) 3 nurses and 2 physicians from the HRF in Bissau, linguistically competent for Creole and local dialects, administered the standardized questionnaire and the physical examination respectively; 3) 2 pediatric residents from Italy aided in clinical examination, a nurse and 2 other physicians in performing the rapid tests for HIV (Determine®) and SCD (Sickle Scan, Biomedomics) after informed consent; patients with Sickle Scan positive results were immediately collected another blood sample on Guthrie card for molecular analysis confirmation to be performed in Italy at the Azienda Ospedaliera Università di Padova. During the second phase of the project (April-May 2018) subjects with suspect of TB and/or HIV received free transportation to the HRF for TB diagnostic evaluation according to the national protocol and second HIV confirmatory test. Results: All 898 inhabitants (32 families) accepted the screening and performed clinical examination with clinical questionnaire; all performed the finger prick for HIV and SCD rapid test. At SickleScan 16 were HbSA (children 9/16); none were HbAC or HbSS. All received information on the carrier state. At Determine 61 were HIV positive (children 9/61). 93 presented clinical suspect of TB (children 33/93). 12 had a suspected of TB and were HIV positive(children: 2/12). For subjects with a suspect of TB or who were HIV positive free transportation was arranged to the HRF for complete TB diagnostic workup and second HIV confirmatory Rapid Test. All HIV positive tests were confirmed and patients enrolled in clinical care in a nearby village; 30% of patients with TB suspect had the diagnosis confirmed by Xray/sputum smear examination and were enrolled in appropriate care programss. All 16 Sicklescan positive HbSA samples underwent molecular analysis and the results were confirmed. Conclusions: This pilot study demonstrate the feasibility of a simultaneous population screening at the POC in rural areas for three "big diseases" (SCD, HIV and TB) through a temporary outreach clinic organized by local specialized staff in collaboration with local communities and international Academic Institutions and NGOs. The simultaneous screening with rapid test and standardized clinical examination is a model that could replicated in other rural settings in low resource countries. A further pilot study which will include a rapid test for TB, HIV and SCD is currently being planned. Figure. Figure. Abstract: Padina australis Hauck is one of the brown algae used as human food, cattle woof, and as antibacterial in medicine. This brown algae contains some antibacterial compounds such as alkaloid, phenol, tannin, steroid, and saponin. Periodontitis is a disease that causes infection and inflammation around tooth’s supportive tissue. One of the alternatives to treat periodontitis is using the brown algae Padina australis Hauck. This study aimed to obtain the effectiveness of Padina australis Hauck to inhibit the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis. This was an experimental study using wells with modified Kirby-Bauer method. Samples were obtained from Molas coastal areaa, sub district of Bunaken, Manado city, North Sulawesi. The samples were extracted by maceration method. Porphyromonas gingivalis was obtained from pure stock bacteria at the Microbiology Laboratory Faculty of Medicine, University of Hassanuddin Makassar. The results showed that the total diameter of inhibition zones of Padina australis Hauck extract was 91.0 mm from five Petri dishes with an average of 18.2 mm. Conclusion: Padina australis Hauck extract had sttrong antibacterial effect to inhibit the growth of porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria.Keywords: padina australis hauck, porphyromonas gingivalis, zona hambatAbstrak: Padina australis Hauck merupakan salah satu jenis alga coklat yang berguna sebagai makanan manusia, pakan ternak, dan antibakteri dalam bidang kesehatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas Padina australis Hauck dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Porphyromonas gingivalis. Jenis penelitian ini ialah eksperimental secara in vitro dengan metode modifikasi Kirby-Bauer menggunakan sumuran. Sampel diperoleh dari pesisir pantai Molas Kecamatan Bunaken Kota Manado Sulawesi Utara dan diekstraksi dengan menggunakan metode maserasi. Porphromonas gingivalis yang digunakan dalam penelitian diperoleh dari stok bakteri murni di Laboratorium Mikrobiologi Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Hasanuddin Makassar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan total diameter zona hambat yang dihasilkan ekstrak Padina australis Hauck pada lima cawan Petri sebesar 91,0 mm dengan nilai rerata 18,2 mm. Simpulan: Ekstrak Padina australis Hauck memiliki efek antibakteri yang tergolong dalam katagori kuat dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Porphyromonas gingivalis.Kata kunci: Padina australis Hauck, Porphyromonas gingivalis, zona hambat

Aim: To assess midwives' evaluation of a real-life neonatal resuscitation and their opinion on importance of resuscitation interventions.Methods: Multicenter, multi-country study.Setting: Beira Central Hospital (Mozambique) and Azienda Ospedale-Università di Padova (Italy).Subjects: Sixteen Mozambican midwives and 18 Italian midwives.Interventions: Midwives' assessment was evaluated by using a predefined score, which graded each resuscitation intervention (0–2 points) and summed to a total score for each step (initial steps, bag-mask ventilation, and chest compressions). All scores were compared with referral scores given by two expert neonatologists.Results: Both Mozambican and Italian midwives overestimated their performance regarding of initial steps taken during resuscitation, chest compressions, high-oxygen concentrations (p < 0.01), and underestimated the importance of stimulation (p < 0.05). Mozambicans overestimated suctioning (p < 0.001). Participants agreed with experts about the importance of equipment preparation, using a warmer, drying the newborn, removing wet linen and heart rate assessment.Conclusion: Mozambican and Italian midwives overestimated the performance of a real-life neonatal resuscitation, with heterogeneous evaluation of the importance of several aspects of neonatal resuscitation. These findings may be useful for identifying educational goals.
