Abstract:
Abstract The paper presents the evolution and trends in the Master’s-level studies in aerospace engineering in Italy, looking at the past 20 years. In the year 2000, a major reform of the higher education in engineering took place in Italy, with the introduction of the so-called ‘Bologna system’ and the clear separation of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree studies. With this reform, a relatively high flexibility was given to universities to define their programme structures. The ministerial rules defined only broad subject areas within which courses and credits should be allocated. This reform allowed the diversification of the educational profile within each university and, even more relevant, allowed the creation of mobility across the country between Bachelor’s and Master’s study programmes. The paper will show the basic facts and figures in the six Italian universities participating in the Partnership of a European Group of Aeronautics and Space UniversitieS (PEGASUS) network (Politecnico di Milano, Politecnico di Torino, Università di Pisa, Università degli Studi di Napoli ‘Federico II’, Sapienza Università di Roma and Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna), elaborating on the impact of the potential workforce for the sector. Data have been collected from the official open data repository of the Italian Ministry of University, supplemented by information provided by the six universities under analysis. The comparative analysis shows two major results: the positive impact of the reform on the overall Italian higher education and, specifically, a greater appreciation of the aerospace curricula proposed in accordance with the new system.

Abstract:
The present Special Issue of The Open Civil Engineering Journal collects a selection of extended, reviewed and revised papers presented at the 1st FIMM French-Italian Meeting on Masonry, held in Marseille, France, from 24 to 25 October 2013. The organizers of the meeting were Prof. F. Lebon, Université d'Aix-Marseille Laboratoire de Mécanique et d'Acoustique (FR), and Prof E. Sacco, Università di Cassino e del Lazio Meridionale (IT). The main aim was to exchange new ideas and show the state of the art of different research groups active in France and Italy, two countries at the top of the world for the research on masonry. Universities involved were: Université d'Aix-Marseille (FR), Université de Montpellier 2 (FR), Université de Limoges (FR), Politecnico di Milano (IT), Università di Roma la Sapienza (IT), Università di Ferrara (IT), Università di Cassino e del Lazio Meridionale (IT). A Scopus enquire with keyword “masonry” ordered by country shows 1609 records for Italy and 274 for France, with a percentage contribution respectively of 12.5% and 2.1% on the global scientific production, putting thus in evidence the importance of a tight interaction between French and Italian research groups. After the success of the first edition, the 2nd FIMM French-Italian Meeting on Masonry, will take place in Milan, Italy, from 30 to 31 October 2014. The special issue collects three papers. Fouchal et al. [1] present an evolution of the interface model originally presented by Rekik and Lebon, including cracks and roughness, with a comparison with experimental data on specimens subjected to shear tests. In the second paper, Tralli et al. [2] report a comprehensive state of the art on the cutting edge numerical research devoted to masonry vaults. Finally, Addessi et al. [3] review some advanced homogenization, micro- and macro-modelling strategies suitable for the analysis of masonry in the inelastic range. I wish to thank all the authors for their valuable contributions. All manuscripts underwent technical peer review. I therefore also wish to thank all the reviewers for their critical comments which undoubtedly improved the original technical value of all contributions.

A reflection also imposes itself on the Italian university "after" the Pandemic. In fact, this contribution represents the unedited elaboration of my brief speech at the Third Brainstorming of the University, Designing the University of the Future (University of Perugia, 29 March 2021). On this occasion, the need to "design the University of the future" with the mind turned to the past, recovering the basic values of the university of the origins (Civitatis Perusii A.D. MCCCVIII), was underlined (Studium Generale, Universitas Studiorum, quaestio quodlibetalis etc.), in order to reaffirm the personalization and quality of the educational relationship through accredited/institutional but direct contacts/profiles (e.g. Microsoft Teams).

Abstract:

Abstract:
The international debate on the physiognomy of higher education started more than twenty years ago, between reforms of organizational and didactic models and profound reflections on the epistemological statutes of every single discipline. However, at the threshold of 2020, the contours of the tertiary training cycle are still blurred. Is university following the rules of markets, in an attempt to keep up with globalization and the frenetic pace of the new economy, or is the homo oeconomicus who carefully observes, with an eye to the future, the changes in knowledge production approaches that are more functional to his interests? The article, starting from the current socio-economic framework, proposes a reading of some of the possible disciplinary approaches dedicated to the planning, production and transmission of knowledge. It also touches the theme of transdisciplinarity, observing it from a constructivist perspective and also semiological, taking up Lotman's theories on the semiosphere. Finally, it suggests the potential traits of a new physiognomy of the tertiary training cycle

Activities and interest in the sphere of university–industry interaction have grown rapidly in Italy over the past ten years, but cooperation between the sectors is still in its infancy and there is a lack of formal structures for liaison. With special reference to the research programme Progetto Impresa-Università of the Fondazione RUI, the author assesses recent developments in university–industry interaction in Italy and points up organizational and structural constraints. He suggests various policy and organizational measures to encourage and facilitate cooperative activities, while at the same time taking into account the necessity to avoid imposing cooperation on academic institutions.

Abstract:

Abstract:
ABSTRACT: Internationalization is assuming an increasingly important role in education, since it is posed as an essential process and a challenge for universities. However, for universities to successfully perform this action, they need to be trained for this. From this requirement arises the development of projects and agreements that aim at the teaching-learning of foreign languages contemplated in the internationalization edicts, see Capes PrInt, and partnerships with international segments, see Memorandum of Understanding between the Italian Embassy and Brazilian universities participating of the Rede Andifes Idiomas Sem Fronteiras. In addition, the growing demand for calls and research grants in Italian universities has given rise in the Rede Andifes IsF of the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) and Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) to the desire to expand the action and impact on the academic environment, and considering the current context and the possibilities of distance learning, the course Preparazione agli esami di competenza linguistica was developed. In this article, in addition to reporting the experience from the structuring of the course and its applicability, we will share the experiences in the development of the activities to implement the valutazione a distanza, the path taken and the challenges encountered, which provided the authors with a great learning experience, reinforcing how much this type of course and the commitment of the teachers can contribute to the expansion of the Rede Andifes IsF and the internationalization process between Brazilian and Italian universities. Keywords: Italian language teaching/learning.
