Abstract:
The centralized database can store a variety of electronic archives. Electronic archives face a variety of network attack vulnerabilities as information technology and network technology continue to advance. Furthermore, these archives will be readily forged and tampered with by internal management or external attackers. Data security and authenticity problems prevail in China’s management system for archives. First, this exploration elaborates the blockchain technology, distributed database technology, and distributed database system structure. Secondly, blockchain technology is applied to the authenticity protection of electronic archives. Then, an optimization model of university archives based on blockchain technology is constructed. Finally, this exploration investigates the current use of blockchain technology for college archive management systems. The questionnaire is used to understand the current university personnel’s views on the college archive management system under the application of blockchain. The survey results suggest that most people support the digital college archive management system. At present, the operation efficiency of the college archive management system still needs to be improved, and the quality of archives search should be promoted. Therefore, the college archive management system still needs to optimize the archive’s efficiency as well as quality. According to the above survey results, this investigation gives suggestions for optimizing the college archive management system using blockchain technology, as well as some suggestions and references for further management.

There are many archives owned by AMNI Maritime University in Semarang. The archiving system carried out at the AMNI Maritime University Semarang is still not well organized and neat because it is only based on archive classification, so if you have to look for archives such as archive numbers or archive dates, you will experience problems because you have to find the files needed one by one in the filing cabinet. The sequential search algorithm can be applied to the search for employee document numbers at the Maritime University AMNI Semarang and works well as planned. The employee document archive information system at the Maritime University AMNI Semarang can be used to manage the employee document archive more optimally, controlled, well organized and maintained so that the archive is not easily damaged Keywords: Archives, AMNI Maritime University Semarang, Sequential Search Algorithm

Abstract:
The article intends to illustrate through the emblematic case of the archive of Vincenzo Federici, conserved at the Sapienza Documentation Science Library, the relationships and the close connections that link a private archive with the archives of the institution that hosts it. During the course of the work we analyzed mainly the regulatory and protection and valorization aspects of public and private archives that compose the archival system of Sapienza University of Rome. The correlations linking the Federici archive with the general archive of the University, the student archive and finally other private archives deposited in Sapienza’s libraries and museums were then analyzed. Finally, it was highlighted how the “conservative polycentrism” of Sapienza offers advantages and disadvantages for the protection and valorization of its archives.

Abstract:
Archives are created in every institution large and small. College is one of the institutions that produces many archives of academic and administrative works. The archives created in universities need to be managed and stored so that they can be traced and utilized by the institution concerned and by other parties who need it. In line with this, Sanata Dharma University (USD) as the bearer of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education seeks to manage archives in all units at the university level. The management of the USD institutional archives is carried out by carrying out the mandate of the 2018-2022 USD RENSTRA, where the initial target for achievement is the 1993-2020 USD archives. Archival managers are expected to be able to collect and archive all USD institutional documents from 1955 s.d. 2020. Records management at the USD level is left to the USD Library.USD Library plans to carry out acquisitions/archive collection of units. This step was preceded by an online survey of records management in units, so that USD Libraries had an initial picture of archive management across all units in USD. This online survey was conducted using qualitative methods. The population in the survey is education staff, both permanent and non-permanent in USD, with a total of 376 people. The sample used in the survey is 76 people, the sample selection using convenience sampling technique. The survey results showed that there were 52 people who filled out the survey. The most types/subjects of archives owned by units in USD are curriculum archives (25 units), lectures (24 units) and student affairs (20 units). The largest media/archive form is print/paper (50 units), but most of the units have been digitized (43 units). Other archival media that are also owned by the unit are photos, souvenirs, compact disks, videos, digital video disks, blueprints, maps and technical drawings. The processing of unit archives in USD varies, both those that have been digitized (33 units), have been inventoried/recorded (25 units), have been numbered/coded (6 units), have been destroyed (2 units) to archives that have not been managed properly ( not yet digitized, not yet inventoried, not yet coded). There are archives that have been arranged in a filing cabinet/rack/file/order box (40 units), archives are organized by year/subject/alphabatic number (26 units). The majority of HR Archive Managers in all units do not have HR that specifically manages archives (48 units). The majority of archive borrowing is no archive loan. The majority of facilities/tools/software for archival tracing do not have facilities/tools/software for archival tracing (47 units). Permits for borrowing archives from units at Sanata Dharma University, the majority allowed borrowing archives (47 units). The majority of data collection/inventory of archive types to be borrowed from units at Sanata Dharma University answered that data collection/archive inventory was carried out by each unit to ensure the completeness and correctness of the archives to be borrowed (26 units). Static Archives Management and Storage at Sanata Dharma University answered that the USD Library only manages and stores digital archives and printed archives are stored in their respective units (29 units). Abstract:
This work focuses on Western Kentucky University’s Folklife Archives located in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Western Kentucky University has a rich history of folklore scholarship, dating back to at least the early 20th century and the work of Gordon Wilson. Folklore archives across the nation have long been repositories for the fieldwork of folklorists and a place to look to supplement future studies both of folklorists and other disciplines. Western Kentucky’s Folklife Archives are no exception, housing thousands of impressive pieces donated from many generations of folklore scholars. Yet very little has been written about the Western Kentucky Folklife Archives. Through oral history and primary documentation, I have attempted to capture this history from the earliest days of Gordon Wilson, D.K. Wilgus, and Lynwood Montell to the present day. vi

Abstract:
In January 2018, Masaryk University archives obtained an extensive written estate of Robert Konečný (1906–1981), an associate professor of philosophy and professor of psychology at Masaryk University, the pioneer of health-care psychology in Czechoslovakia, a poet and author, and a major figure of resistance to Nazism. Robert Konečný’s personal files, which belong among the best preserved items in the university archives, were organized and made accessible during 2018. Extensive correspondence mainly includes collections of letters from key figures of Czech literature, philosophy and psychology. A remarkable part of the estate consists of texts of Konečný’s lectures and speeches as well as documents on his educational activity in radio and television broadcasting. The files also represent a valuable source for the study of resistance to Nazism in Moravia. An extensive set of manuscripts, typescripts and prints from the fields of psychology, philosophy and literature can serve as a basis for the preparation of Konečný’s bibliography.

Abstract:
This report presents a case study about building a working digital language archive in a hosted university institutional repository. Best practices in language documentation regarding information architecture, organization, and retrieval are considered in relation to university library commitments to resource acquisition/preservation and online cataloging/delivery systems. Despite challenges, findings suggest that constructing digital language archives in university institutional repositories may offer viable collaborative solutions for researchers unable to find suitable, pre-existing archives in which to deposit their language documentary materials. The report concludes that, in such situations, the ability to satisfy best practices may respond to the strengths/weaknesses of particular software implementations as much as it reflects the design team’s vision, as theory and method in language documentation increasingly become matters of library and information science.

For many years, the open access digital archives have been operating in majority of foreign universities. As a rule, the university library maintains and supports the digital archive. Unfortunately, this practice has stagnated in Russia. What does impede the progress and which advantages can digital archives offer to research libraries? The author attempts to review practical difficulties of digital archive acquisition as well as advantages to the libraries. The solution may be found in balancing the difficulties to be overcome and the spectrum of possibilities the libraries would get with the open access digital archive.

Full text
Abstract:
As part of ARL’s Research Library Impact Framework initiative, the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Libraries used its humanities core program—a year-long undergraduate freshman course that introduces students to the development of scholarly research using primary and secondary source resources—to answer the research question, “When students ‘see themselves’ represented in archives, do they experience an affective response that has an effect on how and what they learn through primary source literacy workshops?” UCI used entrance and exit surveys as assessment tools. Survey results show that the learning outcomes achieved during the community-centered archives workshop exceeded those achieved during the traditional primary literacy workshop. These findings suggest incorporating more inclusive histories into workshops and discussing the importance of representation in archives improves the student learning outcomes. When students “see themselves” represented in archives, they experience an affective response that impacts how and what they learn through primary source literacy workshops.

Abstract:
The URL links to a website page in the Drexel Digital Museum (DDM) fashion image archive containing a 3D interactive panorama of an evening suit by American fashion designer James Galanos with related text. This afternoon dress is from Galanos' Fall 1976 collection. It is made from pale pink silk chiffon and finished with hand stitching on the hems and edges of this dress, The dress was gifted to Drexel University as part of The James G. Galanos Archive at Drexel University in 2016. After it was imaged the gown was deemed too fragile to exhibit. By imaging it using high resolution GigaPan technology we are able to create an archival quality digital record of the dress and exhibit it virtually at life size in 3D panorama. The panorama is an HTML5 formatted version of an ultra-high resolution ObjectVR created from stitched tiles captured with GigaPan technology. It is representative the ongoing research of the DDM, an international, interdisciplinary group of researchers focused on production, conservation and dissemination of new media for exhibition of historic fashion.

Withers, Clare, Diana Dill, Jeanann Haas, Kathy Haines, and Berenika Webster. Library Impact Research Report: A Toolkit for Demonstrating and Measuring Impact of Primary Sources in Teaching and Learning. Association of Research Libraries, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.29242/report.pitt2022b.

Full text
Abstract:
As part of ARL’s Research Library Impact Framework initiative, a team from the University of Pittsburgh Library System addressed how special collections support teaching, learning, and research. This project developed a toolkit that allows measurement of impact of engagement with primary sources. The University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) initially worked with University of California, Irvine (UCI) to develop student learning outcomes based on the ACRL/RBMS–SAA Guidelines for Primary Source Literacy and used a logic model framework to identify three types of outcomes: initial (attainment of new skills and knowledge), intermediate (behavioral change), and long-term (change in status). Pitt studied two successive cohorts of their Archival Scholars Research Awards (ASRA), a semester-long undergraduate scholarship program that matches each student with a University of Pittsburgh Library System (ULS) librarian/archivist and a Pitt faculty mentor to engage in an in-depth research project. Next, Pitt refined, expanded, and tested the toolkit for use in class visits to assess student learning and archivist/librarian performance in supporting instructor learning goals. The mapping and assessment toolkit Pitt developed may be applied to teaching with primary sources across different disciplines and institutional settings.

Buchanan, Riley, Daniel Elias, Darren Holden, Daniel Baldino, Martin Drum, and Richard P. Hamilton. The archive hunter: The life and work of Leslie R. Marchant. The University of Notre Dame Australia, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.32613/reports/2021.2.

Full text
Abstract:
Professor Leslie R. Marchant was a Western Australian historian of international renown. Richly educated as a child in political philosophy and critical reason, Marchant’s understandings of western political philosophies were deepened in World War Two when serving with an international crew of the merchant navy. After the war’s end, Marchant was appointed as a Protector of Aborigines in Western Australia’s Depart of Native Affairs. His passionate belief in Enlightenment ideals, including the equality of all people, was challenged by his experiences as a Protector. Leaving that role, he commenced his studies at The University of Western Australia where, in 1952, his Honours thesis made an early case that genocide had been committed in the administration of Aboriginal people in Western Australia. In the years that followed, Marchant became an early researcher of modern China and its relationship with the West, and won respect for his archival research of French maritime history in the Asia-Pacific. This work, including the publication of France Australe in 1982, was later recognised with the award of a French knighthood, the Chevalier d’Ordre National du Mèrite, and his election as a fellow to the Royal Geographical Society. In this festschrift, scholars from The University of Notre Dame Australia appraise Marchant’s work in such areas as Aboriginal history and policy, Westminster traditions, political philosophy, Australia and China and French maritime history.
