Holdsworth, Sarah, and Tricia Caswell, eds. Protecting the Future. CSIRO Publishing, 2004. http://dx.doi.org/10.1071/9780643092150.

Abstract:
Protecting the Future showcases tangible examples of the practical implementation of global sustainability and the triple bottom-line plus one (comprising environmental, social and cultural economic and governance dimensions) in the scholarship and operations of RMIT University. These practical initiatives, applications and methodologies can provide information and inspiration for individuals or organisations wanting to implement global sustainability principles in their planning and operations.
Global sustainability is one of the fastest growing concerns around the world. Organisations of all kinds are increasingly aware that their future may well depend on their ability to create solutions to economic, environmental, social and cultural as well as governance issues.

Full text
Abstract:
This publication is the third product of the Erasmus + Project entitled Voices of Immigrant Women (Project Number: 2020-1-ES01-KA203-082364). The e-learning package is aimed at university students from different disciplines, research staff, Higher Education professors and professionals who work in the field to address the social inclusion of migrant women with a gender perspective from Human Rights, an intersectional approach and interdisciplinary. The general objective of this resource is to improve the training of the different social agents who work or will work in the near future in migration and thus help combat discrimination, segregation, racism, harassment and violence, assuming the triple role that universities must carry out both in research, training and in social commitment. The contents are organized in 8 modules and each module has a double dimension: one transnational and one national. Training is based on theory and practice.

Zeitlin, Vladimir. RSW Modons and their Surprising Properties: RSW Turbulence. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780198804338.003.0009.

Full text
Abstract:
By using quasi-geostrophic modons constructed in Chapter 6 as initial conditions, rotating-shallow-water modons are obtained through the process of ageostrophic adjustment, both in one- and in two-layer configurations. Scatter plots show that they are solutions of the rotating shallow-water equations. A special class of modons with an internal front (shock) is shown to exist. A panorama of collision processes of the modons, leading to formation of tripoles, nonlinear modons, or elastic scattering is presented. The modon solutions are then used for initialisations of numerical simulations of decaying rotating shallow-water turbulence. The results are analysed and compared to those obtained with standard in 2D turbulence initializations, and differences are detected, showing non-universality of decaying 2D turbulence. The obtained energy spectra are steeper than theoretical predictions for ‘pure’ 2D turbulence, and pronounced cyclone–anticyclone asymmetry and dynamical separation of waves and vortices are observed.

Even-Ezra, Ayelet. Ecstasy in the Classroom. Fordham University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.5422/fordham/9780823281923.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
Ecstasy in the Classroom explores the interface between academic theology and ecstatic experience in the first half of the thirteenth century, which were formative years in the history of the University of Paris, medieval Europe's “fountain of knowledge.” It considers little known and often unedited texts by William of Auxerre, Philip the Chancellor, William of Auvergne, Alexander of Hales (OFM), Roland of Cremona (OP), Hugh of St Cher, and others, to reconstruct the ways in which they addressed questions about Paul’s rapture and other modes of seeing God. As the book’s subtitle suggests, it seeks to do three things. The first is to map and analyze the scholastic discourse of a group of theologians about rapture and other modes of cognition in the first half of the thirteenth century. The second is to explicate the complex, implicit perception of the self they imply and to locate its echoes in contemporary literature, hagiography and other materials. The third is to read these discussions as a window on the predicaments of a newborn community of medieval professionals and thereby elucidate foundational tensions in the emergent academic culture and its social and cultural context. With this triple aim, Ecstasy in the Classroom challenges the often rigid historiographical boundaries between scholastic thought and medieval cultural history and joins the unified approach to intellectual creation, the conditions of its production, and its key instruments.

Atkins, Ruth. Koffman, Macdonald & Atkins' Law of Contract. 10th ed. Oxford University Press, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/he/9780198860907.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
Koffman, Macdonald & Atkins’ Law of Contract provides a clear, academically rigorous, account of the contract law which is written in a style which makes it highly accessible to university students new to legal study. It works from extensive consideration of the significant cases, to provide students with a firm grounding in the way the common law functions. There are chapters on formation, certainty, consideration, promissory estoppel, intention to create legal relations, express and implied terms, classification of terms, exemption clauses, the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977, unfair terms in consumer contracts, mistake, misrepresentation, duress and undue influence, illegality, unconscionability, privity, performance and breach, frustration, damages, and specific enforcement, as well as companion website chapters on capacity and an outline of the law of restitution. Recent cases which are of particular note in this, the tenth edition, include the Supreme Court cases of: Wells v Devani (2019) on interpretation and implied terms, Pakistan International Airlines Corporation v Times Travel (UK) Limited (2021) on lawful act economic duress, Morris- Garner v One-Step (Support) Ltd (2019) and Triple Point Technology Inc v PTT Public Company Ltd (2021) on the law of damages, and Tillman v Egon Zehnder (2019) on illegality and severance, re-affirmed in the Court of Appeal ruling in Quantum Actuarial LLP v Quantum Advisory Ltd (2021). Further important Court of Appeal decisions include: TRW v Panasonic (2021) on ‘battle of the forms’, Ark Shipping v Silverburn Shipping (2019) on classification of terms, FSHC Holdings v GLAS Trust (2019) on the equitable remedy of rectification, considered within the chapter on the doctrine of mistake, and Classic Maritime Inc v Limbungan Makmur (2019) on the interpretation of force majeure clauses and the scope of the doctrine of frustration, issues which rapidly elevated in significance leading up to Brexit and upon the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Notable first instance decisions which have tested frustration in light of these events include Canary Wharf (BP4) T1 Ltd and others v European Medicines Agency (2019) in the context of Brexit, and Salam Air SAOC v Latam Airlines Group SA (2020) on the impact of Covid-19. Additional High Court rulings considered within this edition include Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Saeed Bin Shakhboot Al Nehayan v Ioannis Kent (2018) and Bates v Post Office Ltd (2019) on good faith, and Neocleous v Rees (2019) on electronic signatures coupled with the findings of the Law Commission Report on Electronic Execution of Documents (2019) Law Com No 386.
