Abstract:
The paper reports on the findings made on an experiential exercise of Bachelor of Science Honours in Statistics (BSc Hons Stat) in the Department of Statistics and Operations Research (SOR) of the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) in South Africa. SOR is a small, understaffed department, which offers courses for degrees from Bachelor to Doctoral levels in the subfields of Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining, Operations Research, Statistics and related ones. On SMU campus, expertize in some of these fields is also available in the Department of Computer Science (DCS). In the 2015 academic year SOR admitted 20 BSc Hons Stat students beyond its staffing capacity. Then, SOR invited DCS in a crowdsourcing initiative to jointly supervise student projects in the various subfields mentioned. The challenges include conflict and limited experience. These are managed satisfactorily though, but mainly because they occur at low levels. This crowdsourcing arrangement nevertheless results in timely submissions of final projects, improved quality projects worthy of being published, innovation, quality teamwork, and some synergistic outcomes. Coordinators also learn and/or improved some project management skills

Abstract:
The Masters (MSc) in Science Communication at Dublin City University (Ireland) draws on expertise from several disciplines in human and physical sciences. The programme takes a broad view of communication that includes the various kinds of interaction between institutions of science and of society, as well as the diverse means of exchanging information and ideas. Nearly 200 students from a wide variety of backgrounds have completed the programme since its start in 1996, and they work in many different types of employment, from information and outreach services, to science centres, to publishing and journalism. Through the programme, and in the dissertation in particular, students are encouraged to reflect critically on the place and performance of science in society, and on relations between the cultures of natural sciences and of humanities and social sciences.

Abstract:
Out of all the departments of political sciences in Russia - the Department at MGIMO-University is probably the oldest one. In fact it is very young. While MGIMO-University is celebrating its 70th anniversary the Department of Political Sciences turns 15. Despite the fact that political analyst is a relatively new profession in Russia, it acquired a legal standing only in the 1990s, the political science school at MGIMO-University is almost as old as the university itself. Unlike many other universities, focused on the training teachers of political science or campaign managers MGIMO-University has developed its own unique political science school of "full cycle", where students grow into political sciences from a zero level up to the highest qualifications as teachers and researchers, and campaign managers, consultants and practitioners. The uniqueness of the school of political science at MGIMO-University allows its institutional incarnation -the Department of Political Science - to offer prospective studentsa training in a wide range of popular specialties and specializations, while ensuring a deep theoretical and practical basis of the training. Studying at MGIMO-University traditionally includes enhanced linguistic component (at least two foreign languages). For students of international relations and political science learning foreign languages is particularly important. It allows not only to communicate, but also to produce expertise and knowledge in foreign languages.

The contributors to this discussion teach in three different Faculties at the University of East Anglia (UEA) – Science, Arts & Humanities and Medicine & Health Sciences. They have each used science fiction to explore learning outcomes in their distinct teaching practices. The discussion below highlights how contemporary science fiction can operate as a touchstone for debate that informs biochemistry teaching. Laura, Helen and Richard have all studied basic sciences, gaining PhDs in various aspects of biochemistry and molecular biology, and each have taught undergraduates and postgraduates at UEA. Helen and Richard are based in the Faculty of Science. Laura is based in the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, and uses her interest in science communication to explore university teaching practices that involve science fiction. Christine gained a PhD from her research of technology and performance in science fiction film and is based in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities.

Abstract:
The Dept. of Agricultural Sciences currently offers degrees at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Undergraduate programs in Plant Science, Animal Science, and Rural Development were consolidated within the Dept. of Agricultural Sciences in the late 1980s due to the declining number of graduates. However, no personnel turnover or course changes occurred due to consolidation. Enrollment at the undergraduate level has doubled within the past 5 years. Student enrollment for Fall 1995 included 127 undergraduates and 31 graduate students. Graduation figures projected for 1995–96 include 26 undergraduates and 8 graduate students. Horticulture and Agronomy are now two of the concentrations available for the BS degree in Agricultural Sciences, and Plant Science is an option for the MS degree in Agricultural Sciences. Presently in the plant sciences there are approximately 30 undergraduates and 20 MS students. Faculty and professional staff affiliated with the Cooperative Agricultural Research Program are encouraged to submit teaching proposals to the 1890 Institution Capacity Building Grants Program, a USDA-funded competitive program for the agricultural sciences. Awards enable grantee institutions to attract more minority students into the agricultural sciences, expand institutional linkages, and strengthen education in targeted need areas. The Grants Program supports teaching projects related to curricula design, materials development, and faculty and student enhancement. Current teaching grants address graduate and undergraduate education in molecular biology and undergraduate education in soil sciences.

Abstract:
Over the last 3 years, The School of Health and Medical Sciences (SHMS) at Seton Hall University has embarked on implementing an Interprofessional Education (IPE) framework to educate students in 5 of its professional graduate health science programs. The goals of this framework are to (1) educate faculty, students, practitioners, and staff on the value of interprofessional education and (2) create student clinical experiential learning opportunities that foster development of core competencies necessary to become effective, collaborative members of interprofessional teams. A Structured Immersion Approach (SIA) was adopted to implement 4 core IPE experiences for all students in the health sciences program. As 1 of the 5 health science programs in SHMS, the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (MS-SLP) program has actively supported the schoolwide IPE initiatives by adding IPE-related content to its didactic courses, clinical experiential training opportunities, and community service activities. Schoolwide and program-specific IPE experiences are outlined with an emphasis on the sequencing of these experiences for MS-SLP students.

Abstract:
The academic potential of the Kuban State Medical University has been formed as a result of close interaction between university and academic science. Such collaboration encourages the development of highly qualifi ed academic and teaching staff, increases the importance of conducting fundamental studies and forms an information basis for boosting research and educational processes in the university. Over a century, academicians and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) have contributed to the development of the Kuban State Medical University by taking part in fundamental research projects and creating scientifi c schools. The Kuban State Medical University has received ongoing intellectual support from representatives of academic science both in the formation of long-term developmental strategies and implementation of individual scientifi c projects. The collaboration between RAS and the university has been carried out under different socio-economic and political conditions. The Kuban State Medical University will continue implementation of fundamental research projects in close interaction with the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) in the foreseeable future. This article presents a brief biography of 15 RAS academicians and corresponding members having made a signifi cant contribution to the development of the Kuban State Medical University, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

Abstract:
Background: As risk factor and cause of morbidity and mortality, smoking is close related with labor health. The early beginning in tobacco consumption and the high tobacco intensity consumption are determining several negative consequences over labor health and labor productivity too. Objective: To describe the incidence of smoking over the labor health. Materials and methods: Was made a descriptive research about the incidence of smoking over the labor health. For that were used as theorical methods the historic – logic, the inductive – deductive and the comparative. As empiric method was used the bibliographic research. Results: A high smoking impact over the labor health determines leasing labor capability, leasing labor productivity and leasing social redistribution potentialities in favor to dependence social sectors no associated to the labor activity. Conclusions: Smoking saves a close relation with labor health. This risk factor act reducing it value since the epidemiologic, economic and social point o view.
