Doctor of Philosophy<br>Curriculum and Instruction<br>Thomas Vontz<br>Motivated by a critical theory of place, this qualitative study sought to explore the experiences of participants in a single embedded case of the Global Opportunities office at Susquehanna University. Through in-depth interviews, document analysis, and participant observation, a thorough exploration of the case was completed over a two year period. This case study explored how 15 students, faculty, and administrators in global learning programs describe their experience across immersive locations—inclusive of locations classified as domestic and international. By using a critical case study methodological framework, this work was framed by equal access to important global learning outcomes by all students—regardless of ability to pay.
Global learning programs, traditionally abroad, can be a transformational experience for students able to participate—a steady 2% of university students over the previous few decades (Twombly, Salisbury, Tumanut, & Klute, 2012). As a result, 98% of American university students are not going abroad during their undergraduate experience in an academic context, most not at all. This study explored immersive programs not traditionally thought of as cross-cultural, many considered domestic experiences. Through rigorous qualitative analysis, the data in this study resulted in three themes:
i. The domestic/international distinction is insufficient.
ii. Civic identity is more salient in domestic and liminal experiences.
iii. Location is not enough. Curriculum is essential.
Implications of this work could be of interest to students in cross-cultural programs, teaching faculty and staff, student program providers of a variety of types, and university administrators of immersive experiences. Ultimately, this study sought to explore possibilities to broaden access to global learning experiences for all students.

This study examines how two common ways of studying, mandatory Group study and Individual study, affects students’ mental health. 45 Swedish University students were scouted on the web and linked to an online questionnaire where they rated themselves during two conditions: working in group projects and working individually. A Student's t-test showed a strong significant difference between stress levels during Group study and Individual study, with Group study generating higher levels of distress among the participants. These findings are relevant to the discourse of stress and stressors in the educational environment as well as in work settings.

tendo em conta os factores sociais, políticos e académicos do contexto japonês. A Universidade J.F. Oberlin foi o caso usado para este propósito.
A história, economia e tradições da sociedade japonesa, ainda que em diferentes medidas, sempre influenciaram significativamente as políticas de acesso ao ensino superior e são por isso inseparáveis desta análise.
Os dois momentos mais importantes a nível político nesta temática são o processo de desregulamentação, ou seja, a transferência de controlo do governo central para o poder do governo regional, local e institucional durante o mandato de Nakasone (primeiro-ministro japonês), e, posteriormente a privatização de instituições públicas. Consequentemente, estas foram
adquirindo maior autonomia durante o governo de Koizumi, sucessor de Nakasone. As mudanças sociais são visíveis pelo número decrescente de
alunos que concluem o ensino secundário, a grande variedade de novos candidatos ao ensino superior e a falta de confiança neste sector. Estes dois factores exigiram dos decisores políticos e aos líderes institucionais soluções para estes problemas nacionais. As preocupações académicas foram
atenuadas com maior grau de autonomia e consequentemente maior responsabilidade.
O grande sistema de ensino superior japonês (maioritariamente composto por instituições privadas) enfrenta grande competitividade para atrair estudantes qualificados. Desta forma, as instituições têm que gerir cuidadosamente as suas políticas de acesso de forma a assegurar simultaneamente qualidade e um número satisfatório de matrículas para garantir a sua existência e futuro.
No entanto, ao desenvolver os seus processos de admissão com êxito, as instituições têm que considerar vários obstáculos ao mesmo tempo que
facilitam este processo. O carácter específico de cada instituição é um factor extremamente importante na distinção das melhores instituições que, em tal processo competitivo, precisam de procurar melhorar constantemente e alcançar major prestígio.
ABSTRACT: The present thesis aims to analyse how social and policy issues influence access conditions to private universities in Japan. The case study is the
strategy adopted to explore the implementation policy under social, political and academic factors in Japanese context. J.F. Oberlin University was the case chosen to achieve this goal.
Those factors were at completely different level although with enormous influences in Japanese higher education access, moreover they were
dramatically connected and clearly associate with that context. Japanese society, history, economy, tradition and develop have been always significant
influences in Japanese higher education context.
The two main factors at policy level were the deregulation process from central governmental control to local, regional and institutional power under Nakasone cabinet and afterward the privatization of public institutions and increase
autonomy of private institutions under Koizumi cabinet. Social changes were represented by the decreasing high school graduate population, the wide variety of the new applicants and the lack of trust in tertiary education. Both stage demanded to policy-makers and institutions leaders to face serious problems at national level. The academic concern was dealt by the institutions with wide freedom and strong responsibility. The large Japanese system (basically private institution) faces a strong competition to attract enough and well qualify students. Therefore, institutions need to achieve their best admission policy procedures in order to assure, simultaneously, quality and a
successful enrolment for its existence and a booming future.
Nevertheless, in order to develop a success admission process, institutions have to consider several hurdles and facilitate. The specific and unique character of each institution would be an extremely important factor to characterize and distinguish them. In the tough competition process institutions need to improve and increase their prestige. The efficiency to measure the wide
variety rank of student skills, motivations and backgrounds is an important process in order to build up a future and successful institution.

The rapid expansion of university places in Hong Kong between the late 1980s and the middle of 1990s has brought about a number of changes to the local higher education scene. Primary among these changes is the increased choice of university education for students. Along with the widened choice, new consumer groups and a more competitive market environment are created. Consequently higher educational institutions have to place more emphasis on promoting and marketing their own programmes and courses. It appears that a wide array of student recruitment activities take place without a systematic analysis of the factors affecting student university choice. The lack of local research on university choice suggests that researching into this area to examine students' decision-making process would be worthwhile. This study presents the findings of a questionnaire survey of 1,684 first-year undergraduate entrants to a university in Hong Kong. Two sets of data were collected: first, the importance of twenty-eight identified factors in affecting student university choice; second, the students' rating of the University on these factors. The study aims to identify the influential factors in student university choice, and measure the strengths and weaknesses of the surveyed University against these factors.

<p>The study aims to examine the factors that influenced the international students when selecting Karlstad University as an institution. The study also contains a secondary aim which is to examine how the international students evaluate their experiences in Karlstad. Further the study is built upon four research questions, where the three first research questions can be referred to the main aim whereas the fourh research question can be referred to the secondary aim. The main aim is by the research questions divided into a three step process, the factor that influnced the international students to study abroad, to study in Sweden and to study at Karlstad University. The fourth research question which concerns the secondary aim is about how the international students evaluate their stay in Karlstad.</p><p>The enquiry has been made with help of a questionnaire, which 98 of the international students at Karlstad University answered. The study showed that factors that influenced the international students to study abroad was to gain better understanding of the foreign language and the foreign culture. The students were also influenced by the student life and the life experiences that they would gain by studying abroad. They also stated that the value of their resume would be higher because of these studies. Factors that influenced the students to study in Sweden was i.a the factor of knowledge and awareness. A majority found the knowledge of Sweden, the reputations of the institution quality, the awareness of the quality of the education as influencing factors. The students also found it easy to obtain information about Sweden, which is very good since this factor is a great contribution to knowledge and awareness. The answers showed that a small majority of the students were influenced by low fees and by recommendations from authorized representatives. The students were influenced by low crime and low racial discrimination factors, such as factors of clean environment and an exiting place to live in. The influencing factors of studying at Karlstad University were the reputation for quality, the reputation of institution staff, the broad range of courses and programs and the the good facilities. However many of the students stated that they choose Karlstad University because of the agreements between Karlstad University and the home University. As the students were asked to evaluate their stay in Karlstad, they seemd to be satisfied with the quality of education, the facilities, the student accomodations, the students life and Karlstad as a city.</p>

Using a critical realist approach to case study research, the thesis explores how education reform policy is translated into practice. The thesis looks at a single institution to investigate the complex structures at work in the translation of policy in situ. Specifically it analyses the translation of policy funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) under the Super Global University Project (SGUP) at an elite Japanese university, the University of Tsukuba, a national university located one hour east of Tokyo. The case study is an exemplifying case with elements of being a revelatory case for internationalisation-focused education reform policy in Japan. The methodology employs mixed methods for an educational-management, critical realist-type case study. The research brings to light previously obscure theoretical relationships from the vantage point of an embedded researcher engaged on-site with reform target implementation and translation all throughout the initial adoption phase of the Super Global project. The thesis focuses on policy translation in a specific university setting; however, this process does not happen in isolation. It is important to place the university in Japan in a global context of relations to networks for university reform, the labour market and the youth-to-work transition. One core theory to emerge is that on the macro level of policy there is a globalising process to university reform; relatedly, on the micro level of the department, organisational management is the essential operative variable at the intersection of university reform, the changing needs of the labour market, and increased risk in the youth-to-work transition. Elias’ figurational sociology is applied as an heuristic to extend this theory. In combination, the theories to emerge from the case study serve to inform the judgements and decisions of practitioners or policy-makers in this area and have implications on the levels of policy, institution, department, and student.

Student administrative systems swing between being decentralised or centralised with a number of benefits being put forward for each scenario, including economy, consistency, customer service and control. This study makes a comparison of these systems in English universities, particularly looking at the factors which influence the centralisation or decentralisation of student administration in order to identify the factors involved, so that informed decisions can be made by university management. The research was undertaken in two main phases: firstly a questionnaire survey of university registrars (the macro study) was carried out in order to identify the current structures and systems in place for student administration; secondly case studies of four universities were undertaken. The latter mainly involved questionnaire surveys of academic and administrative staff at each institution, together with semi-structured interviews to chart the different student administrative systems and structures in place and obtain qualitative and quantitative data to assess them. From the results of the first survey, it was possible to assess the degree of the centralisation or decentralisation of the student administrative functions and cross-reference the data to examine whether certain factors were influencing the design of these structures. The results of this analysis are documented in Chapter 4, and it was noticeable that the majority of the respondents favoured the “midway” structure for student administration. Four universities were identified from the macro study to form the focus of more detailed case studies: one with a centralised student administration, one with a decentralised system, and two with hybrid systems. Key administrative functions were examined closely to determine the effectiveness, efficiency and motivational influences involved for each case study university. The research concludes that a blanket centralisation or decentralisation of student administration does not maximise the resources and gain the optimum efficiency. By being selective in which processes are centralised or decentralised, the university can gain in economy and also ensure a supportive infrastructure to enhance the student experience.

Research Purposes: Brands are one of the important influences on our life that appear everywhere and have great impact on the way we see our world. There are several kinds of brands and numerous perspectives existing about the brand concept. However, the concept of company brand, or corporate brand, is a new topic in the literature and only in 90s was the company brand concept assessed by some communication and branding consultants. Doubtless, one of the most discussed issues in the brand literature is general brand building process. There are many studies that have been done on the general brand building process, regardless the type of the brands, which can be found by Western scholars such as Aaker (1996), de Chernatony (2001), Knox and Bickerton (2003), and Urde (2003). Even though, there are numerous models of the branding process in the literature, the lack of empirical testing has always been the source of critiques for all of them. One of the recent researches on the corporate branding was done by Ted Karlsson, Ph.D. at Umeå University. He divided the internal corporate brand process from general corporate branding process and studied it separately. He came up with a model which is based on the theories mentioned above. However, there are no studies that have been done by scholars on internal corporate brand building process at higher education institutions. The purpose of this thesis is to describe the internal corporate brand building process at Linköping University and, to examine Ted Karlsson’s model for its applicability in LiU case. Methodology The type of the research is descriptive. In order to fulfill the research purpose, the researchers have used the deductive approach and adapted the case study strategy as a research strategy. Both secondary and primary data have been used in the research. Findings In the conclusion, researchers come up with the model of internal corporate brand building process of LiU. The researchers found that Linköping University has been taking the whole steps of the internal corporate brand building process as it is described in the literature. LiU internal corporate brand building case study approved the reliability and the validity of the model presented by Ted Karlsson in 2006.

Drawing on developments in the public health field, this exploratory study applies the ideas of Health Promotion (HP) to the University of Cape Town (UCT). It defines UCT as a setting within which HP can and should take place. Following the World Health Organisation (WHO), health is seen as encompassing physical, mental, social, and other environmental factors (WHO, 1978). Sociological perspectives that acknowledge the relationship between social action/behaviour and the social context, hence the relationship between students' wellbeing and the UCT environment are employed. Data and information for this study were collected through focus group discussions, in-depth interviews, participant observation, and a sample of information gathered by first year sociology students. The fear of failure, housing problems, limited social integration, and availability of cigarettes and junk food on campus were found to be some of the factors that influence and constrain students' weIIbeing. It was also found wellbeing is not an explicit consideration in the university plans and policies, even though implicitly these are meant to enhance wellbeing. Strategies to promote health in UCT need to be guided by a commitment to wellbeing in the university's policies. This thesis recommends that the university be required to pass a 'wellbeing test'.

Recall of expository prose after one of two learning techniques was determined. Pearson correlation did not discover a significant difference between the recall writings of the examinees who studied by discussion and those who studied by underlining. The significance of the difference between two proportions found that the group which underlined recalled significantly better than the group which discussed what they had read. This highly significant difference was almost identical when all synonyms from the Turbo Lightning computer program were considered correct recall and analyzed by the significance of the difference between two proportions.

The aim of this research was to examine how university literacy is constructed at a university in the Arabian Gulf and to evaluate the appropriateness of this construction where students of a low level of English are exposed to academic English (Right from the Start). Unpacking this construction is a complex task and to gain even a limited insight into the numerous Discourses, epistemologies and pedagogies constituting the construction of university literacy at Gulf universities, a stratified approach that probes the layers of ‘reality’ is necessary. Therefore, a critical realist approach is engaged, along with a variety of methods to probe the layers of the phenomenon. In terms of thesis organization, the traditional empirical structure common to the Social Sciences and the argumentative structure common to the Humanities are integrated. While the information obtained by a variety of methods is analysed and conclusions are reached, this material is also used along with additional literature to support the central contention that university literacy and academic English are possible ‘right from the start’, if the students’ literacy is examined from a certain perspective and if there is an appropriate pedagogy which promotes the desired literacies. This combination of thesis structures would be deemed appropriate in the critical realist ontological framework since the rigour of the thesis lies both in its “reliability” resulting from the empirical data and its focus on the ‘real’; and its “reflexivity” and “persuasivness” arising from the transparently ‘critical’ argument of the thesis (Cadman 2002). In order to conduct the empirical research, the lenses suggested by each of the major views of literacy as outlined by Lea and Street (1998) - namely the “study skills” view, the narrow “academic socialization view” and the “academic literacies view” are utilized in succession. However, the central argument is revealed as the manifestations of each ‘view’ of literacy in the specific context are examined, the research outcomes obtained by utilizing each view in succession are outlined and both are critiqued from the perspective of the “academic literacies” view. Corpus research is undertaken from a “study skills” perspective and the effect of the vocabulary taught to the students on their use of vocabulary in their writing is examined. Also, using the “study skills” lens, the students’ “global language development” in terms of changes or fluctuations in “fluency, accuracy and complexity” (Wolfe-Quintero, Inagaki et al. 1998) over a period of at least three semesters is examined. Utilizing a narrow “academic socialization lens”, studies conducted at the University on learning strategies and motivation and the comments made by respondents in interviews and on an electronic discussion board are compared to comments made by teachers and lecturers. Major flaws in these views of academic literacy are acknowledged and the way each view manifests itself in the Discourse(s) prevalent at this particular university is demonstrated. Finally, Discourses evidenced in the student interviews in particular, are unpacked and then compared and contrasted with those in the lecturer interviews as well as the curriculum and other university documents. The limitations of the study are examined and suggestions for further research and ways to address ‘problems’ associated with university literacy are given.

The ability to read and write academic discourse in a second language often determines an ESL student's scholastic progress. Recent related research has focused on the academic reading of ESL university students at the text level, often at the single or multi-paragraph level (Block, 1986; Carrell, 1985, 1987), and has looked at categories that were general across subject areas.
This study explores how first year university ESL students cope with the reading demands of two specific credit courses, English Literature and Introductory Psychology, within the context of the course requirements, the instruction, and the nature of the academic discipline itself.
The research method focused on ethnographic interviews with ten students from various Asian countries and their Canadian instructors, on classroom observations, and on the researcher's extensive field diary.
Analysis of the findings identified three major coping strategies: self-management, background knowledge and experience, and reliance on the instructors in the disciplines. The nature of the genre, the students' interest in the discipline, and their perseverance in reading comprehension appear to influence their choice of strategies in meeting specific academic objectives. These strategies contributed to the background knowledge component of the academic tasks that the students face. Their efforts at academic tasks were guided by the concern to do what was required to complete course assignments. Essentially, course assignments directed the action component or agenda, of the students' academic tasks. Reading-to-learn involved approaching the genre-specific reading tasks at the whole text level within the context of what was required to successfully fulfil the course requirements of the particular genre. The primary reality of the students was to demonstrate an adequate level of academic proficiency.
In contrast with previous research, findings indicated the importance of genre-specific reading tasks at the whole-text level rather than generic reading at the paragraph level, and the importance of relating coping strategies to the context of what was required to fulfil course requirements rather than the study of strategies in isolation. Aim: The purpose of the study is to understand the different education systems between Zhuhai College of Jilin University and University of Gävle. So that we can figure out what attract Chinese business students to study in University of Gävle and what is valuable for these business students. Method: Data collected by using the interviews, literature review. Inductive approach is used to analyze the information. Case study approach is used to analyze the general and current situation of Chinese students choosing to study oversea. Result & Conclusions: Combining the knowledge of literature reviews and interviews’ data, we listed the push factors and pull factors are affecting Chinese business student’s decision to study aboard. In the case, the push factors and pull factors have big impact on the business students of Zhuhai College of Jilin University to make a decision to study at University of Gävle. Suggestions for future research: Since the backgrounds of our interviewees are similar who are Chinese students and have study experiences in Sweden, and there might be some deviations for our qualitative analysis. Also, the numbers of interviewees are limited. Moreover, the interviews are only useful in an exploratory study such as ours and the richness of the finding can be enhanced in further study. Therefore, we think it will be better to maintains more interviewees in the research in this aspect which can be more critical on this kind of international students’ study. Contribution of the study: This paper not only introduce some organization theories and theories that can be widely used in education development, but also put forward some ideas that can be used in Zhuhai College of Jilin University in the future. This paper argues some aspects that Chinese education system can be improved in the future from students’ points of view. During the process of developing the education, students also play an important part, and they will directly reflect the condition of the schools.

碩士<br>淡江大學<br>資訊管理學系碩士班<br>103<br>In this study, schedule changing information in two semesters is collected by using Tamkang University campus App “TKU i-Life”and cross-analysis is conducted according to different changing reasons, month, college and department, etc., in order to understand the schedule changing situation in Tamkang University. With case-study method, the study provides Academic Affairs the findings and recommendations from the analysis and aim at enhancing the operational efficiency of the contractor staff, elevating the satisfaction of studentand teachers and reducing labor of Academic Affairs.
It is found that the average schedule changing rate of two semesters was 1.5%.Most of the schedule changing was made to give students a more suitable learning environment (75.6% of changing reason were due to course demand, 22.6% of changing reasons were due to teachers'' personal demand), top three changing reasons were "classroom changing(whole semester)" (32.4%), "temporary classroom changing" (21.6%) and "personal leave" (15.4%).

This undertaking is also regarded by various universities to continuously improve service quality, create competitive advantages, and achieve sustainable development.
In a review of literatures on service quality, there are many publications on this subject. Nevertheless, a comprehensive scale to measure “administrative service quality for higher education” has not yet developed. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to setup such a measurement scale.
The five dimensions of service quality in Parasuraman, Zeithaml, and Berry’s article published in 1985 will serve as a basis of designing a survey questionnaire used in this study. In addition, a consultation with university professors, students, and administrative staff and other references are also taken into account to finalize the questionnaire, which consists of five different dimensions with a total of 40 questions.
A total of 871 valid questionnaires have been received from the survey. Of this total, 141 came from faculty members, 177 from administrative staff, and 553 from students. By undertaking IPA and statistical analysis, the major findings are summarized as follows:
1.Three demographic variables: teachers, administrative staff, and students, on school administrative service quality expectations and actual experience are partially significantly different.
2.The school administrative service quality expectations and actual experience is partially significantly different.

Under the government to promote plan of “First-class Universities and Top-level Research Centers”, the university who obtained the financial assistance should present good performance accountability, on the other hand the sustainable development must be considered. There for university governance is more complex.
This article is a case study of the National Cheng Kung University, The study found that school has taken a “change governance” in order to respond to and manage the higher education environment changes, taken a task-oriented “share governance” in order to pursue sustainable development, taken a “services governance” to strengthen external relations with social resources and also taken a “cultural governance ”to create a arts campus to enhance school humanities. This study detailed description and analysis all facts and the context behind these above four governance models.
This study is a description and interpretation based Phenomenon of research, the main argument is how the school in a dilemma between such of stability and innovation, technology and the humanities, development and service, academic power and administrative power, financial needs and outcome demand with Communication and decision-making.

On the other hand, trend toward globalization makes parents and students have more opportunities to understand the world’s school information from a variety of diverse media and channels. This makes the school enrollment more competitive. Under this extremely unfavorable situation, many universities take the school market to the social media and daily life strategically. They change the traditional school enrollment strategy to a more creative and integrated one by emphasizing more on the school characteristics.
This research discusses the present university’s enrolled strategy by studying the recent university’s enrolled practice. We use the theory of service triangle developed by Gronroos. In the case of Fooyin University, from the past development of actual practice, we analyze the present university enrolled goal, location, and the marketing approach. We also check that the university enrollment strategy is correct and effective or not referring to the recent performance. This research not only demonstrates the characteristics of school, proposes a nice enrollment strategy, but also helps achieve the goals of sustainable development for a university.

It is a facility for the convenience of readers in wayfinding process and can reduce the additional work load for the staff because of less inquiry. It’s include, the whole floor plan of the library, the direction for each area, the knowledge for each space, etc. An architect often depends on the experience in the process of a new construction library and lacks of wholly consideration. It will take influence for the service quality and results. And raise the doubt and difficulty for the user experiences.
The study takes the library sign system planning of Huafan University as an example. Knowing the factors of wayfinding and how it could be happened to confer the wayfinding behavior. Discuss the definition, classification and design of a sign system. Analyze the map of service area and route planning. Implement the function and dealing of the sign system in a library. Approaching the target library’s route and planning. Make a summary of the hints for the design process of a sign system. It also considered with the evaluation of the sign system in other university libraries to keep off mistakes. The achievements of the study are: (1) help the library to construct a design criterion and maintain system, (2) provide a consult for the relevance staff of schools, (3) provide a consult for other schools plan to construct a new building or renew their sign system.

Fuzzy Delphi Method and semi-structured interview were adopted as the main research methods. Initially, a framework of the questionnaire was developed for “The Self-Study Process in University.” Moreover, thirty academics in education fields, groups of school evaluators, and school administration staff were invited to offer opinions and recommendations for composing a Fuzzy Delphi as well as for the selections of process and works. Accordingly, researcher produces the final and official questionnaire for “The Self-Study Process in University.” And then, the semi-structured interview was used to collect 3 academic opinions. In order to explore ways to promote self-study in university supporting measures.
In accordance with the above research methods, the findings of the analyses are stated as the followings:
1. The self-study process in university contains six stages: plan and consult, organize and design, collect data and prepare, implement and execution, write report and spread, improve and sustainable manage and thirty-four works, which are all applicable.
2. In order to promote self-study mechanism in university, there are six supporting measures need to do. Including the Department of Education may develop a self-study approach as a reference of university, the Department of Education may entrust Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council to assist university to establish self-study mechanisms, the Department of Education may compose a self-study works guidebook, university should conduct a workshop for school members, university should set a dedicated units to co-ordinate matters of self-study, besides, university should prepare a fund for promoting self-study mechanism.
Finally, some suggestions are provided in relation to the findings of the research, which can be a reference for a further study in the future for the Self-Study Process in University.

In such environments, the private schools encounter high pressure of seeking sufficient enrolling students and more competition among schools. Therefore, management of private schools should focus on increasing efficiency of operating organization so private schools can be developed with more competition in the future. How to operate and allocate available resources and to achieve educational goals become the most important topics for school management.
Schools are Non-Profit Organization and this thesis is intended to evaluate the relative efficiency of faculties of colleges or universities with Data Envelopment Analysis（DEA）, which is popular methods for researches regarding Non-Profit Organization. It includes the CCR model and BCC model and selects 4 input items and 3 output items as evaluation indicators. The thesis employed the DEA model in the case study to evaluate the Overall Efficiency, Pure Technical Efficiency and Scale Efficiency of school faculties and performed slack variable analysis to inefficient faculties to obtain inefficiency reasons and provide further improvements.
The case study in this thesis was performed with efficiency evaluation on 19 faculties of certain medical university based on the information of fiscal year of 2008. The results were as below:
1.Overall Efficiency:
In the case study, 7 faculties are relatively inefficient, representing 37% of population. This means that over 1/3 of total population is inefficient.
2.Pure Technical Efficiency:
In the case study, 3 faculties have no pure technical efficiency, representing 16% of population. The negative result is less than overall efficiency, which implies that the inefficiency may be caused by scale inefficiency.
3.Scale Efficiency:
In the case study, 7 faculties have no scale efficiency, representing 37% of population. Such faculties need to adjust their scales to reach the overall efficiency.
This thesis also provided the improvement suggestions for inefficient faculties and operation strategies for management.

With the deviation from its original culture, social relations, and natural environment, the tribal society is facing internal break-ups. The continuance of tribe’s original culture and community development are also facing crises and challenges. Therefore, how to establish an aboriginal community with tribal culture content and modern knowledge, as well as promote community cultural and educational development , is a meaningful issue.
For a long time, our government has invested financially in the overall aboriginal construction, such as bridges and roads, school facilities, lights and tap water, agricultural guidance and various kinds of loans and schooling subsidies. However, the government’s administration tends to see everything from the Chinese cultural point of view and ignores the minority’s problems, which often results in the biased treatment and attitude. Many measures were meant to be friendly and caring.But due to the lack of deeper understanding of the aboriginal society, cultural essence and needs, aboriginal problems often were not solved. Hence, how to consolidate the aboriginal tribe adult education and let the aboriginals have the opportunity to enjoy lifelong learning experience should be the first priority to save the aboriginal culture.
Taiwan’s aboriginals are being marginalized. The rapidly changing times are beyond the aboriginal living and thinking mode. As a result, many adaptive problems are surfacing. It is important to solve the problems the aboriginals are facing, enhance our national and cultural content while at the same time keeping their original culture.
Community University, such as the elderly community university and Wen Shan Community University, is a new trend emerging everywhere and is becoming prevalent. Its curriculum design meets the need of the Taiwan society. Promoted by the public and the government, it also conveys a deeper meaning of liberalizing knowledge and catalyzing the civil society.
Pingtung Aboriginal Tribe University(PATU) was established under this circumstance. However, PATU is also different from regular community universities in its theme. Besides offering aboriginal adults re-education and re-learning opportunities whenever appropriate to shape their civil elements and transform the community, PATU also emphasizes cultural continuance, tribal talent cultivation and industrial and skillful learning (economy). PATU plays an important role in pushing forward local tribal learning with the hope to establish a tribe-unique learning mechanism through local efforts and enhance the aboriginal competitiveness.
PATU focuses its curriculum on the aboriginal linguistic and cultural continuance. Its future development will include tribal research in order to enrich tribes with cultural content and combine modern knowledge and skills to develop tribes and enhance the living quality and competitiveness.
This research explored the management of PATU, including its development, curriculum design,teaching staff, facility, interaction between the government and the community learning efficacy and recruiting plan. We also hope that our suggestions based on research results can serve as a reference for our government, related education authorities and civil business groups and non-profit organizations.

The Ministry of Education spares no effect to promote the concept of Green University, and launched a Green University plan in 2007. Hopefully to remodel software, and building hardware subsidiary to build a eco-friendly, low-carbon campus. 2009 June 5th, the eve of world environment day, 13 selection universities in Taiwan jointly signed “The Tallories Declaration” and become the first batch of Demonstration School of Green University. They view sustainable development as a national important consensus. Green concept, which is resulted from “Green declaration” and “Green environment”, will be applied in teaching, research, and administration throughout all universities. Furthermore all communities will be integrated into a joint effort for sustainable developments.
This study shows the three aspects "environmental system", "environmental management" and "environmental education", 13 major indicators, and 37 sub-indicators of “Indicators of Green University”, which applied in the Feng Chia University. Take this as the focus, and investigates the campus by the field research. The total scores are 73.02, while seventeen of original scores are full marks, twelve are above 60 and eight are low. It shows that Feng Chia University is doing well at the present stage. But since the eight scores are low, Feng Chia university ought to do more efforts.
The results of this study can be a foundation of Feng Chia university to improve campus green environment, thus the vision of the campus sustainability will be fulfilled .

This study mainly explores the problem of how a university can help its neighborhood and realizes how to provide interactive community service.The domain of this research is within the Se-Tun Section and the surrounding area of Feng Chia University in the Taichung City.
There are five goals of this research:
1. Understanding and studying theoretical or practical interactive models for Se-Tun habitants and Feng-Chia University.
2. Finding out current interactive situations: i.e. to realize the view points how Feng-Chia University exhibit itself for Se-Tun habitants; and to know what is the degree of satisfaction that Se-Tun habitants has in for Feng-Chia University.

To actualize financial independence, each university needs to be self-sufficient through securing the sources of funds to avoid elimination by competition. According to domestic research, the main source of university fund is the act of cooperative education implementation. The main parts are research programs, external services and symposiums.Universities that procure more opportunities with higher research capability can not only develop innovations, raise the academic and research status, but enhance the fund-raising ability. Therefore, to improve the performance of the research programs is the main goal especially for national universities. Hence, based on the case study of one of the top national universities N, this empirical research aims to compare and analyze the differences of research program performance. The differences are between each college, each teacher with rank, MOST (Ministry of Science and Technology) or non-MOST research programs within each school year or all the school years. It intends to establish an analytical model to improve the research program performance in the future.
To accomplish the goal, this study analyzes the data from a total of 6658 research program projects at N University from 2011 to 2015. The data are divided into MOST and non-MOST projects (including those commissioned by the government and the industry), units are categorized into 6 colleges and 1 other division, academic ranks are categorized into professor, associate professor and and assistant professor. The main methods used in this study are Pearson's chi-squared test, Levene's Test, t-Tests, and ANOVA. The results demonstrated that the research main force of MOST projects is College of Electrical Engineering. The College of Biotechnology and the College of Science get the best performance in average; the research main force of the academic ranks is the professor. The professors get the best performance in average. The research main force of non-MOST projects is College of Electrical Engineering. The College of Electrical Engineering, the college of Information and the College of Management get the better performance in average; the research main force of the academic ranks is the professor. The professors and associate professors get the better performance than the assistant professors.

This study focused on C University of RFID Smart Library, we analysis of this innovative service to the effectiveness of managers in the management process and the reader's sense of identity. In this study, we use some case interview and questionnaires for library managers and readers, and results from this study show that the import of RFID Smart Library for library managers; the innovation of its services can really provide better management, upgrading of the library to read and collections services, to provide student's quality learning space and to create a scholarly campus; For readers, this study is to explore three aspects; we finally know that analysis report showing C University Library to implement RFID, can improve the willingness of students to use. In this study, expectation's ideas and recommendations from this study can be given the intention to import the relevant unit of the RFID Smart Library as a reference.

Universities in Taiwan are searching proactively the upgrading measures so as to alleviate the pressure of higher education deregulation and shrinkage of educational resources. Previous western researches demonstrated that industry-university collaboration not only expedites industrial R&D and innovation but also enhances university’s competitiveness. We find from literature review that American university-industry collaboration emphasize more on the institutional operation in universities. Empirical evidences prove that well managed governmental funding induces private R&D investment and enhance R&D performance. Intermediary institutions are more employed to facilitate university-industry collaboration in Germany and the UK. Thus, this research is aimed at researching on the influences of university-industry collaboration based on its types, scales, and university types. Empirical results show there is positive correlation between a university’s ranking and its university-industry collaboration activities. Universities have better performance than their technological university and technological institute counterparts in both project numbers and scales. Synthesizing empirical results, we demonstrate positive correlation in university-industry collaboration and university competitiveness in Taiwan. Relevant suggestions are discussed in conclusion.

Coupled with the declining national birth rate, the nation’s candidate students decrease every year. Higher education institutions now face a serious problem of survival. Particularly for private universities, how to provide high quality administrative service is a significant issue. The intention of this research, therefore, is to discover the state of administrative service quality of Huafan University.
This research is an empirical research based on Quality Function Deployment(QFD). It employs PZB Model and SERVQUAL Scale as the measuring instrument to establish customer demand and incorporates Benchmarking, Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) and Importance-Satisfaction Model(I-S Model). The research aims to reveal differences between Huafan University with its benchmarking school, weight of various customer demands in the House of Quality(HOQ), and service factors allocated in the improvement-needed zone.
The research results indicate the top three concerns regarding customer demand are service agents’ familiarity with the administrative procedure, service agency assures customers of the service received, and service agency accurately records and keeps customer information. The top three concerns regarding service quality are regular professional training, computerization of administrative operation, and standard operating procedure. The top three concerns regarding improvement-needed service of the I-S Model are service agents are able to sympathize with customers, service agents are dedicated to provide assistance, and service agents are able to fulfil their promises to customers.

Nevertheless nowadays the essential comfortableness for campus library has not been completely under control, therefore this research is to conduct full scale measured research for environmental temperature, humidity, wind speed at the public spaces between the B1 to 4th floor of Feng Chia University. The intent is to understand the impact to user’s reading comfortableness from each space under indoor air-conditioned environment. And this research is to provide as the appraisal indices for indoor air-conditioned environment planning and design for future campus library. And the embarrassment of current library’s indoor air-conditioned environment would be rectified and enhanced so as to reach the goal of creating superior reading environment for campus library.
In the process of this research, and through the surveyed data and information for indoor air-conditioned environment for overall campus library, this research applied measurement instrumentation to conduct measurements for wind speed at the air vent for each space area, horizontal humidity distribution for each space and indoor environmental changes resulted from different positions in space and different floors. In addition, this research applied software to conduct analyses on wind speed, temperature and humidity distributions so as to create the database for “library comfortableness”. And through exploring setups, quantities, positions for dispositions, setups for air-conditioning humidity in addition whether the appropriate tonnage for main air-conditioning units, then this research conducted actual measurements and analyses through constructing elements to establish reference datum for the comfortableness study. Then this research compiled datum and values for each composing elements and the relevant values from campus library setups to conduct comparison analyses so as to establish the campus library comfortableness datum and information to finally provide as reference foundation for campus library planning and design purpose.
From the findings of actual measurements, the indoor air-conditioned temperatures for both high and low floors were affected rather in a limited fashion by outside temperature variation. Therefore by properly setting up the indoor temperature adjustments can provide viable comfortableness for indoor conditioned environment. Hence it is suggested to conduct proper temperature control, disposition for air-vent in addition to distributed area at the vent outlets so as to expect the campus library be transformed into green buildings of energy saving, and to reach the final goal of providing with comfortable reading environment in the end.

The purpose of landscape lighting is to make people appreciate comfortably. Light is one of the factors in nightscape. The illuminant condition in an environment is a important thinking for the construction of light. This research aims to discuss the planning design for landscape lighting on campus. Presently there is less specific planning for the nightscape beautifying on campus landscape. Not every plan can be fitted as user’s requested nightscape lighting on each campus under the installed norm. On the campus nightscape, we ought to value and raise user’s interest and positive sensation for nightscape lighting.
The location of the present study is to the outdoor space of Fu Jen Catholic University. From the previous studies, we realize the principle of Landscape lighting design which was researched by walking to observe the vision images of day and night, and plan the primary and secondary class of illumination environment; moreover, it brought up the brightness, color temperature and projection light like a kind of planning articles for the whole open space. On the other hand, we can understand subjects’ preference for vision of space construction, tone, color, fixture application, light and shade by the questionnaire. And the favorite place is Centre Ave. Region is and a few of open spaces along straight. As for the concept of lighting subject, it refers principally to Catholicism symbol, and set off the religion property on the nightscape of Fu Jen Catholic University; moreover, designing and lighting simulating for “Fu Yuan Garden”, “Second Circle”, and “Feng Hua Plaza” that subjects are at most intent on.

And the external change and progress, like recent years, get extremely excellent assessment that Ministry of Education and domestic famous magazine comment on domestic universities.
Therefore, the data collected from the seven years , we want to discuss the current of development and construct a satisfaction index model of administration affairs of Tamkang university under the change of space-time 、environment and the University of Tamkang the different subjective satisfaction(include teachers, students and administrative personnel).
This result of study shows that all potential routes have apparent influence results under teachers、administrative persons and students, and appear to the result of the positive relations. The model which this research institute supposes:
The second potential parameter influenced directly by the first potential parameters(include the use of library、information application 、campus manage、administrative procedure and service、social resource、the goal and idea of school and the entire appreciation. It means Tamkang university member’s satisfaction to the administrative affairs of school can come through these grades of potential parameters measurement, and the results are all apparent.
When the satisfaction grade which first potential parameters produce higher, the second potential parameter influenced by first potential parameters greater.

The servicing quality is focused on four main points such as cleanness, hardware and software services, and the dormitory living counseling. These four points include ten concerns such as the dormitory’s neatness and cleanness; basic facilities or equipments; maintenance equipments; safety equipments; maintenance personnel’s professionalism and attitude; accommodating officer’s servicing attitude, professionalism, and counseling; dormitory officer’s servicing attitude; administration services; teacher and drillmaster’s counseling; and safety counseling. Base on the questionnaire findings and research, it can help the administration to plan future improvements, and also improving the management and service qualities.
The paper study’s subjects are the students who live in the dormitories, mainly focused on a southern private university. Five hundred copies of questionnaires were handed out, four hundred and thirty four effective copies were returned for analysis, and the effectiveness rate is in eighty six point eight percent. Both statistics and factor analysis were used to calculate the students’ current satisfactory rates and views of the dormitory managements. In addition, related sample T-test was used to measure the differences between the relationships of the dormitory services and quality managements, based on the degree of main focus importance and satisfactory. Pearson’s canonical was used to provide the degree of main focus importance and satisfactory relevance analysis. The variance analysis (ANOVA) was used to analyze the students’ point of views and satisfaction of the dormitories based on the differences of their backgrounds. Finally, the “Importance Performance Analysis” or IPA method was applied to determine the level of improvements needed to better the dormitory’s management and service qualities.
After the findings and results, campus living students’ main concerns are highly focused on four main points such as dormitory cleanness and neatness; basic facility equipments; maintenance services; and administration or management services. But the satisfactory rates were low on these points, so these will be the first main improvements. This research will conclude by pointing out the below four improvements that are needed. One: improve the living education of the students, dormitory rules, and the students’ view of personal hygiene. Two: setting up dormitory building’s maintenance and repair plan, status of the building’s equipments restoration or replacement and maintenance, and setting a status scheduling to fully control the situation. Three: Internet service equipments and design are old and needed to be replaced and upgraded, problems such and lag, cut-off or traffic can then be improved. Four: Improve the ways of communication such as mandatory student meetings or activities to better students’ involvement with the dormitory managements, and to increase the students’ self-managements skills.

Abstract:
With regards to the university students who are preparing to be the backbone of
the society in the future, they should not only be equipped with the ability to provide
correct speculation on the diverse media of the present, they should also be equipped
with sufficient media literacy to face the present media environment which is the
focus of this study. Thus, this study mainly explored on the media literacy of
university students. The purpose is to understand the behaviors of the university
students on media use and focuses on the media self-perception and news literacy of
the university students to contribute to the literatures on this topic.
This study used the self-designed questionnaire as the research tool. Aside from
the basic information of the respondents, the questionnaire also includes questions on
media use and self-perception of media literacy and news literacy.
The students of Fu Jen Catholic University were used as the population of this
study and adopted stratified random sampling. Factor analysis was used to divide the
constructs media self-perception and news literacy into dimensions. The media
self-perception is divided into dimensions basic literacy and application literacy.
News literacy is divided into understanding and judgment on the message, message
speculation, the concept the message produced and degree of effect the received
message.
The results of the studies are the following:
1. Majority of the students use computers to read the news instead of reading
the newspaper.
2. Majority of the students watch TV for recreational purposes and the internet
and the newspaper are still mainly used to gather information.
3. As a whole, majority of the students have good self-perception of media
literacy and news literacy, among which the motive for using the media is
insufficient and the concept the message produced is clearer.
4. A portion of the background of the students and the time of media use show
significant difference.
5. The background of the students and the self-perception of media literacy
show no significant difference.
6. The colleges of the students and the dimension “understanding on the
message” under news literacy show significant difference.
7. The occupation of the student’s parents and the dimension “message
produced” under news literacy show significant difference.

碩士<br>臺北市立教育大學<br>教育行政與評鑑研究所教育行政碩士學位在職進修專班<br>98<br>The purpose of this study is to understand the implementation of university development fund in a Taipei municipal university, including the background and history of the subject university, difficulties that it encountered in the initial stage, the strategy that it applied to solve those problems, viewpoints that the competent authorities and the personnel of the subject university had, influence that budgeting and management of university development fund exerted. In addition, we also examined whether the differences in practice were caused due to the fact that the subject university belongs to a different system from the national universities. We finally made some conclusions and recommendations based on our findings.
To achieve those purposes mentioned above, we used document analysis, participating observation, and in-depth interviews. We first collected and collated relevant research literature, understood the history of university affairs fund in the national universities——including its current status, specific results, and future trends. Based on the literature data, empirical research, and similar interviews, we then sorted out the process and stages of university development fund in which the subject university was engaged. We finally drafted the outlines for interviews, which were classified into three different areas, for each of which 8 people were selected for the semi-structured interviews. Contents were finally classified and edited. Summaries were made. Our findings were compared with those of the document analysis and participating observation. Some conclusions are drawn as follows:
A.The objectives that the universities promote autonomy and increase flexibility for budget preparation and implementation are met.
B.It was difficult to resort to self funding during the initial stage of operation. The subject university needed to continue internal coordination and to promote understanding, etc.
C.The subject university must actively enhance its own capability to explore more funding sources, to earn more income and to cut down expenditure, to expand the overall educational resources, and improve social services.
D.The competent authority does not provide clear principles and procedures on how to implement the subsidy program. Without legalization, it is highly uncertain that the subsidy program can be carried out.
E.Financial statements are complex. Flexibility on how to use the fund can be explained differently if different legal basis is applied. Thus, there is a gap on perception of the program. However, it seems that everyone accepts the concept of income expansion, cost effectiveness, and cost reduction.
F.Because the subject university belongs to a different system from the national universities, it faces more stringent regulations, less flexibility in implementing its budget, and more restrictions from public opinions and external audit.
Based on our conclusions, we make the following recommendations:
A.For the competent authorities
1.Subsidies shall be not reduced or the proportion of self funding shall not be increased abruptly during the initial implementation stage of the program.
2.Incentives shall be provided to encourage donations from private sectors.
3.A complete set of laws and regulations shall be established soonest possible.
4.Fair and reliable performance evaluation indicators shall be established.
5.Experts shall be hired and authorized to draft the performance evaluation and incentive program for the university development fund.
6.Performance of the university development fund shall be periodically assessed.
B.For the subject university
1.It shall unleash its own strengths, improve its own weaknesses, and focus on its own overall performance.
2.It shall hire experts with management philosophy to plan and implement operations for the university.
3.It shall actively promote public education and academia-industry cooperation, to tap income resources and to enhance social interaction.
4.It shall set up a reward system.
5.It shall continue the propaganda of the university development fund and promote internal consensus.
C.For those who will make further study on this topic:
1.In our study, we observed and analyzed the subject university for its first year of implementation. You are suggested to take a long-term view on the subject university. You may follow up its development when it has a steady overall performance in implementing the program.
2.Taipei municipal universities and other national universities apply slightly different accounting principles to treat their subsidy amounts and accounts. If the basis of comparison is different, your analysis on the financial reports will be meaningless.
3.A qualitative study is good only for presenting the current situations of the subject in the case. Your follow-up study can be designed in the form of a questionnaire survey or other quantitative analysis, such as the Data Envelopment Analysis.

Students gain crucial campus messages and information from school websites. However, most web-pages can hardly meet the satisfaction demands of students, since the web-pages are designed based on subjective viewpoints of website designers. Thus, whether the web-pages meet user expectations or service quality is worth noting. This research aims at figuring out students' satisfaction with school web-pages and investigating the site-by-system, service, information quality, and other dimensions of criteria via questionnaires and sampling for mining surveys.
Results revealed that undergraduate students, comparing to graduate students, exhibit lower satisfaction regarding the system quality, information quality, service quality, and overall satisfaction of school web-pages. Comprehensive studies also indicate that school's image is influenced by the "service quality" dimension of web-pages. Marginal image and reputation of school can be significantly increased if there is a higher school site satisfaction.
School web-pages provide necessary information for students, where clear information content and system efficiency of web-pages are two main concerns. Findings of this study provide useful decision-making references for domestic institutions while improving web-pages, in an eye to reach expected goals.

However, does this method effectively allocate the budget? Is the allocated budget of individual department/institute effectively utilized? This is an extremely important topic for libraries.
This study employs the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to examine the book budget allocation standards of a university library and to find the most optimal allocation model for book budget allocation of the library. Furthermore, in order to achieve the best utilization of the budget of individual department/institute, this study also performs data mining on the book borrowing data from the database system to discovery the borrowing tendencies of the readers from different departments/institutes, provide valuable budget utilization references for various departments/institutes, and further enhance the effects of budget allocation and utilization.

Education is the great cause of “ten years to grow trees, hundred years to nurture talent”; the establishment of the University should be for the purpose of nurturing personnel of the nation and society. Feng Chia University is a private university without any business conglomerates or churches support. In the past 48 years since its establishment, Feng Chia University obtained Ministry of Education accreditation for the national "Teaching Excellence" and funding support for three consecutive years named as the "Central Teaching Resources Center ". It also received the best assessment of Environmental Protection and Industrial Safety amongst universities from the Ministry of Education for three consecutive years and was acknowledged as the leading university in 2008. The school’s performance has been recognized by all walks of life.
In Taiwan, Feng Chia alumni participated in the national top ten infrastructure project in the 60’s and nine-year compulsory education and other major projects. In recent years, Feng Chia University graduates have been the most welcome by top 1,000 enterprises in Taiwan according to Career Magazine. Feng Chia University has the most welcome of enterprisers among the top ten all universities in Taiwan. Particularly in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and other countries, many of the overseas Feng Chia alumni are senior managers or the person of responsible enterprises in the textile industry, garment industry, PC industry, and trading business.
In this study, we apply the CORPS model to explore how non-profit organizations can run the university governance, in order to explore Feng Chia University’s culture changes in different development periods. Such culture changes could be due to different leadership styles and philosophy or different uses of specific organizational resources and strategies. In the meantime, I hope to further find out how to develop and grow Feng Chia as a reference for all staff and alumni of Feng Chia University and other schools.

This thesis depicts the development of collaboration structure and mechanism at Tokyo University, with actual Japanese national policy first being implemented in 1990 to advance formal institutional relations. Emphasizing the transparency, the policy utilized contract as the basis for the collaboration agreements. The fundamental premise is that entrepreneurs are inherently future-oriented, and hence, would provide the university with necessary R&D fees and start-up capital to develop practical innovations, and this would consequently contribute to an overall growth in the economy.
This policy approach has become a global trend, and serves as the foundation for economic development in many countries as they enter the competitive global markets. Japan has been mainly interested in developments related to life sciences, information technology, and nanotechnology.; these areas serve as a focus for future emphases. The advantage of the Japanese approach is apparent, since research in these technologies has not yet yielded tangible results, and thus typically entrepreneurs alone would be unwilling to investigate possible applications. Given this scenario, once policy is established to serve as a bridge between the various stakeholders, the university can act as a platform from which new technologies can be advanced (i.e., by dedicating the necessary people and resources necessary to support entrepreneurial pursuits).
This thesis also includes an exhaustive review of the literature as it relates to this policy approach and the theoretical models upon which it is based. This includes a comparison between present policies implemented in Japan and the United States, and how their respective approaches are likely to impact future developments (both positively and negatively).
The literature to date has shown the impacts of Japanese policy from 1990, in terms of the means by which cooperation between shareholders is achieved and their outcomes. In this thesis, we further identify the strengths and weakness of this model, and apply it to specific developments in Taiwan. Through comparative study, we explore the differences between Japanese and Taiwanese University and Industry cooperation, as well as how such an arrangement would likely progress, and what benefits would result. This thesis will hopefully provide new direction for the policy making within the Taiwanese community.

Based on this fact, our research is trying to find out what are the major factors that influence the level of college professor in the process of sharing knowledge’s willingness, and frequency of college professor in the process of sharing knowledge. Research shows that in Tamkang University professor are highly active on sharing knowledge also are willing to process the behavior of sharing knowledge. Beside these two behaviors, the major factories that influence the willing of sharing knowledge were included in following conditions: self-efficacy, the attitude of sharing knowledge ,expect interest, eldership in academic area, organization culture and excellent teacher award. In those factories willing of sharing knowledge, eldership in academic area and organization culture have complete or a part of intermediary relationship on the behavior of sharing knowledge. This research theoretic support the understanding of sharing knowledge behavior under the context of domestic academic institution in reality this research can offer advice on how to enhance the behavior of sharing knowledge.
