Abstract:
The Malaysian education sector is one of the cornerstones in producing high-quality graduates that fulfill the needs of today’s industries. Hence, having civil servants can achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) is crucial to ensure Malaysia is at its forefront especially in the higher education sector. Nevertheless, theunclear settings of KPIs could deter the University’s staff understanding of their role in realizing the goals. Therefore, this study sets to measure the level of the University’s current performance. Additionally, this study will propose University’s key performance raking based on Balanced Scorecard approach. Theinstrument used is a questionnaire that distributed to the target sample who hold positions as head of department in the main campus at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). These groups of target respondents are believed those who should demonstrate a good understanding of Universities’ KPIs. The resultshows that the University is in high performance and the learning and growth perspective of balanced scorecard need to improvise. Thus, this study will lead to a better management system and produces a high University performance.

Abstract:
Purpose A business school within a research university can improve the startup process and success on and near campus. The purpose of this paper is to show the mutual benefits to business and science students in learning about startups and to helping startups grow. The mutual benefit comes from the student understanding and the startup managing the complementary roles of inventor, entrepreneur, and investor. Design/methodology/approach A case analysis using participant observation, interviews, and document review of the Innovation Center in the College of Business at the Stony Brook University tracks the development of the Center’s educational, research, and consulting activity with engineering departments, incubators, and other support services on campus. Findings Inventor, investor, and entrepreneurship roles were supported and coordinated by science and business faculties and students in the university. This process, described in specific courses and programs for MBAs and BBAs, includes the contribution of business academic faculty, serial entrepreneur mentors and the scientists in partner organizations that also support startups inside and outside the university. The number of business plans written by students grew from 10 to 100 a year, startups begun from 1 to 5 a year, and established startups renewed grew from 10 a year to 20 a year over five year period. Practical implications This case can be useful to research universities and business schools that want to improve the startup process and success. Originality/value This study shows that the role of students in the business school in a research university is to transform inventive ideas from the sciences to innovations in the market place through entrepreneurial activity.

Abstract:
As English language teachers, we are constantly learning and adapting new techniques with the goal of making our lessons more effective. However, there is much less of a focus on what students are doing outside the classroom and few research studies have looked at Japanese students’ independent study habits. When and where do our students study, and what methods do they use? Knowing the answers to these questions can help us to enrich our students’ education by making the homework we give them more effective and meaningful. I present the results of an anonymous questionnaire that was administered to more than 600 tertiary students across a junior college, a private university, and a public university. In discussing the study habits of Japanese students, I hope to help English teachers be better prepared to facilitate their students’ learning both inside and outside the classroom.

Abstract:
Five women university students' representations of their learning were analysed and related to their on-going adaptations to course demands. Representations involved their goals, working plans and perceptions of difficulties. Qualitative data from students' accounts of their study in three interviews over five weeks were tabulated schematically in relation to Duncker's concepts of productive heuristics. Representations and performances were different for three high and two low achievers. Higher achievers had course-appropriate emphases of integrating and organising content for themselves, and applying it to teaching practice. Lower achievers persisted with self-oriented problems and inappropriate strategies. A case is made for the usefulness of qualitative and micro-analytic analyses of students' perceptions and activities for explaining the adaptations behind individual differences in study performance.

Abstract:
Despite the fact, that quite a lot of empirical researches have been carried out, their shortage remains obvious. Constant situation observation, research and analysis are especially important seeking to perceive higher education’s state and change. The practice remains to carry out changes not preparing for this properly, not evaluating current situation. Basically, it can be claimed, that empiric researches is a perspective way seeking to improve higher education system’s functioning. On the other hand, it is wrong to refer to theoretical or/and empiric researches carried out only in other countries. It is necessary to evaluate concrete country’s context, carry out representative researches in Lithuanian university students’ population. Research University study problems is based on positivistic - quantitative approach. The authors hold the position, that measuring causative links between variables is very important. The opinions of the respondents and positions about the investigated object undoubtedly help to reveal important links between variables. The research was carried out between January-March, 2012. Two university (Siauliai – SU and Lithuanian Educology – LEU) bachelor study students participated in the research. 600 questionnaires were prepared. On the whole, 544 questionnaires were acknowledged acceptable. It can be stated, that the majority of students are satisfied with the study quality. Study quality is important for students regardless their sex. It has been stated, that first year students are most satisfied with the study quality, and later the attitude significantly changes. It is understandable, because taking part directly in the study process, the estimation is different: you are faced with objective and subjective problems; you have to consider personal expectations newly. Students are interested in Lithuanian higher education problems. However, the interest in European higher education questions is quite low. It has been stated, that better career possibilities determined university study choice best. Personal initiative and parents’ advice are also important determining factors. However, teachers and friends didn’t have any influence, in fact, choosing university studies. The possible reason for this can be insufficient attention to professional information and career education in comprehensive schools. It is interesting that university study choice is not related with high prestige. Pragmatic-practical interests are obviously significantly important. Key words: higher education, study quality, university studies.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to summarize the experience of leading university libraries in attracting and using creative industries implementating strategic management. The study was conducted taking into account the previous experience by analyzing and systematizing the regulatory framework, information, and analytical materials on this issue, and conducting personal interviews with librarians. The results and conclusions were obtained on the example of libraries of seven higher educational institutions of Ukraine, which are included in the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education. The paper illustrates an extremely unsatisfactory financial situation and insufficient funding for university libraries. But even in such conditions, they are transformed into informational institutions, which not only provide users with a comfortable educational space but also produce innovative information resources and implement creative projects. The most significant projects are analyzed. All seven libraries have development strategies in which their mission is formalized. In three strategies there are no quantitative guidelines for development and, accordingly, the timing of their achievement. In addition, three strategies do not have the understanding of the need for business activities, and their key business processes are not clearly defined. Another three university libraries lack significant international creative projects. Instead, all seven university libraries recognize the need for creative industries and successfully implement creative projects of national importance. The study emphasizes the need to apply a model of strategic management of creative industries on the example of university libraries.
