The content of this diploma project is to design an university library in the city of Brno, Czech Republic. The object is designed as multistory building with underground stories included. The design is created based on requests brought by the investor and includes architectural, constructional and technological proposes for the building. Tématem práce je rozbor a hodnocení současného stavu univerzitních knihoven ve Spolkové republice Německo se zvláštním zaměřením na budování, provoz a využívání jejich digitálních knihoven. Přihlédnuto je i ke stávající situaci německého knihovnictví. Úvodní část obsahuje stručné informace o německém knihovnictví jako celku a způsobu řízení a financování knihoven. Specifické místo je věnováno Německé národní knihovně, která hraje významnou roli pro univerzitní knihovnictví. Práce zahrnuje podstatné informace o německém univerzitním knihovnictví, jeho organizaci, financování a stěžejním činnostem. Práce prezentuje výsledky analýzy digitálních knihoven vybraných univerzitních knihoven v SRN. Pozornost je věnována obsahu, struktuře, typologii zastoupených dokumentů a způsobech vyhledávání informací. Zahrnuty jsou také informace o propojování jednotlivých digitálních knihoven a systémech mezinárodní spolupráce, např. na úrovni disertací. V závěru práce jsou nastíněny perspektivy dalšího rozvoje digitálních knihoven německých univerzitních knihoven a stručné porovnání se situací v České republice.

Abstract:
The diploma thesis focuses on the development of information literacy and information education in university libraries. Based on theoretical and practical knowledge, the aim of the thesis is to propose a concept of information education in the university library of the University of West Bohemia. First, the theoretical part introduces key terms, content, implementable forms and current approach to information education in the context of the university environment. Moreover, it also specifies the current role of the university library as a provider of information education and defines the main competencies of a librarian as an education coordinator or lecturer. Next, the thesis provides an overview of the current activities aimed at literacy development at the university library. The practical part describes in detail the course of quantitative survey of student needs and preferences related to the analysed issue. The final part of the thesis is based on the research results and facts obtained from the analysis of the current educational programs. It proposes a concept of information education, which defines possible changes to the current situation and offers recommendations for future development of the university library so that it can realize its full potential in this area.

(in English): The theme of this thesis is a strategic plan for the University Library at The Technical University of Liberec for years 2012-2015. The first two parts give a detailed analysis of the present condition of the Library containing all the accessible statistical data and the research outcome of the users needs. Based on the collected data in the following text targets are set which when reached should increase the prestige of the Library and thereby the University. The next chapters outline the specific steps to reach the set targets. A part deals with changing the processes of Acquisitions and Cataloguing. Futhermore additional features as reference services, web sites, accessing Electronic theses, dissertations and organization. Potentially some new things should be considered such as an institutional Repository, a discovery system, expansion of RFID technology (Radio Frequency Identification), a selfcheck, providing e-books and other new electronic developments. The conclusion is devoted to the meaning of the strategical plan for the University Library at TUL.

Abstract:
The aim of the thesis is to compare the historical development and current state of the Library of Geology at Faculty of Natural Sciences, Charles University in Prague and the CADIST Géosciences et Environnement library in Paris. In the Introduction, the development of both libraries, including historical contexts, is documented. In the second part of the thesis, the decomposition method of library systems is used to analyse the current state of both libraries. Data for the analysis was collected by the author, partly during her employment in the Library of Geology at the Charles University in Prague, and partly during the internship at the CADIST Géosciences et Environnement Library in Paris. In the third part, the comparison based on the comparative librarianship method, of both geological libraries is created. Consequently, the possibilities of innovation of the Library of Geology at the Charles University in Prague inspired by the CADIST Géosciences et Environnement Library in Paris, and the possibilities of future cooperation among branch-related libraries are proposed. Finally, the benefits of the work are assessed.

This master thesis deals with acquisitions in academic libraries. It briefly outlines the characteristics of universities and describes the acquisition process and other related issues. Content analysis of foreign literature maps acquisitions in academic libraries abroad. Literature review is combined with a case study in the European University Institute. The research of the current acquisition practice in Czech academic libraries was done using the Delphi method. The conclusion of this thesis is dedicated to the summary and comparison of the information gained from the literature review, the case study and the research. Key problems and trends in academic acquisitions are formulated.

The dissertation focuses on digitization in libraries of Charles University. In connection with accessible sources, online questionnaire survey and half-structured interviews done with representatives of eight faculty libraries, the digitization activity under Charles University is presented. Transformations of the library collections into digital forms are in motion in many libraries, therefore the amount of digital material is growing and it is not co-ordinated. The great amount of digital objects is followed by a matter of depositing data and making them accessible, which is currently very topical at Charles University. The aim of the dissertation is to analyse digital libraries and repositories produced and runned at this university. First part of the thesis explains - besides set aims and metodology - terminological basis of the dissertation, especially connection between digital library and digital repository. The digital activities are analysed also from the point of staffing of performed functions, hardware and software equipment at digitalization departments of libraries, technical specification of digitized documents, metadata and also method of depositing data and making them accessible. (in English) The master thesis describes formation and activities of the Geographical Library of the Faculty of Science of the Charles University in Prague (http//www.natur.cuni.cz/geografie/knihovna/). The thesis deals with the formation of the library in the 1880s and outlines its development to the present. The focus of this work is to describe the current situation and outline the anticipated direction of the library's development in the coming years. Emphasis is placed on the growing importance of the Geographical Library as one of the most distinctive information institutes of the Faculty of Science, as well as the gradual introduction and use of new technologies and finally on cooperation with other information and academic institutions. In addition, all the program units (that are in use in the library) of the automated library system Aleph 500 are described. (in English): This study focuses on the faculty libraries of the Charles University in Prague. More precisely, it deals with their collections of manuscripts, old and rare books. The introductory chapters are dedicated to theoretical basis of protection and preservation of historical documents. The main body of the thesis is created by an analysis of historical collections in particular libraries. This analysis is based on a questionnaire survey, on study of sources and on a research carried out during an actual visit to these libraries. Each chapter includes a brief history of the faculty library, the origin of the collection, and other important features such as the size of the collection, its thematic focus and especially the details of the way it is stored and available to readers. Another important focus of this study is to express the needs, the aims and experience of these faculty libraries. A more detailed study is dedicated to the library of The Protestant Theological Faculty. It includes a report about my research into the actual physical condition of the collection. The master thesis deals with the current state and prospects of electronic information resources in politicy of Faculty of Medicine (1st, 2nd and 3rd), Charles University, Prague. The first chapter briefly describes a development of all Faculties of Medicine. Furthermore the most important information about library information services are mentioned. The facts related to University Library and computer center who are the major college providers of services at the university, are discussed as well. (in English) The goal of the thesis is to describe, evaluate and compare the present state of university libraries at the Charles University in Prague and Comenius University in Bratislava. The first chapter briefly describes the present state of Czech and Slovakian university libraries, their anchorage in the laws of the given state and also deals with societies associating the university libraries. The second chapter describes history, present and prospects of three selected faculties of Charles University and Comenius University (Faculty of Art, Faculty of Law and Faculty of Physical Education and Sport) and also the buildings where the faculties are located are described. The third chapter already follows up the libraries of the selected faculties, their history, services, personnel, space descriptions, and their promotion among the general public etc.. (in English): This thesis is dedicated to projects of lifelong learning in Czech public libraries. Its aim is to examine to what extent Czech public libraries are devoted to lifelong learning, especially retiree education, and further, to analyze specific educational projects. Considering the demographic development of the Czech population, there is highlighted the importance and the significance of organizing such programs in the libraries. The first part of the thesis presents theoretical basis and explains terms such as lifelong learning and education, learning society, and formal, non-formal, and informal education. Another part of the thesis deals with gerontopedagogy and old age pensioners. Specific forms of adult education are also presented here. In the practical part, there is an analysis of educational projects of libraries and the questionnaires of the participants are evaluated.

The aim of this master thesis was to describe and asses the place of the library within the organizational framework of universities in the Czech Republic and USA. Aim of this thesis is to describe and evaluate the current position of library in organizational structure of colleges and universities in the Czech Republic and USA. First chapter sums up the current situation. For Czech universities in public school sector the corresponding elementary data, relevant legislative scope and position in organizational structure of public universities are emphasized and presented. For US universities the current status is presented with a particular example of five public universities. Second chapter is about current trends in evolution of university libraries in Czech Republic and USA with an emphasis on position in university or college structure. Third chapter is the essential part of the thesis. It contains report about survey performed with representatives of Czech public universities and representatives of given libraries. (in English) This thesis deals with the issue of information support of science and research development in Italy through information systems and library networks. The introductory chapter deals with several questions concerning the Italian academic environment and its relation to research and coordination of information. The second chapter introduces the current situation of Italian libraries, the library structures, legislation elements and mainly focuses on the institutions managing the libraries. The third chapter is devoted to science and research in Italy. The thesis also describes the current situation comparing it to other European countries. The emphasis is on major research institutions, support organizations and ministries. Followed by the explanation of funding and assessment of research institutions. The fourth chapter deals with the support of research in the area of Tuscany. The three largest universities of this region are analyzed - University of Florence, Pisa and Siena. After a description of these institutions, the thesis looks closely at their library networks, research activities and support. The conclusion summarizes the information obtained and answers the questions formulated in the introduction of this thesis.

Diploma thesis on the topic "Academic libraries of the private universities in the Czech Republic" deals with libraries of the private universities. An introduction into the issue containing history, present, good and bad points of the private universities is mentioned at the beginning. Another part of the work contains information about associations and corporations where the universities are involved in. Foreign private universities and their libraries are also mentioned for better overview. The work describes particular law documents relating to library activities (libraries in general as well as academical libraries). The thesis deals with selected theoretical fundamentals of information literacy, which are followed by an analysis of the situation of teaching information literacy at the 2nd Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Prague. The objective of this thesis is to describe the whole process of participation of the Department of Science Information at the 2nd Faculty of Medicine in the process of information education. First the thesis gives information on a theoretical level about basic terminology and information literacy from a medical point of view. The thesis also shows the results of questionnaire surveys held by the IVIG Committee focused on the activities of university libraries in the field of information education. No less important is also a chapter devoted to a librarian in the role of a lecturer. a chapter devoted to information education at other universities in the Czech Republic ensues. The practical part contains a presentation of teaching at the 2nd Faculty of Medicine where the library participates. Individual subjects are described in detail in the mentioned part. Some recommendations for improving the actual teaching are formulated in the conclusion.

This work exposes, evaluates and summarises academic and professional career of Jan Nepomuk Vaclav Zimmermann (1788-1836), who worked as a scriptor and a censor. It reviews his censoring and book-examining skills across all fields of book culture. It investigates and evaluates whether contemporary critical testimonies depict Zimmermann's rather negative character rightfully and accurately or not. Zimmermann devoted his time to examining and censoring Czech books and also Hebrew books. As a scriptor at University library, he was responsible for collecting, archiving and organizing manuscripts into catalogues. These catalogues have been filed in National Library for many years. Palaeographical analysis of the catalogues will bring in new facts concerning Zimmermann's autorship. This thesis also presents a list of Zimmermann's work with its historical critical evaluation and compares it to the recent research.
