Japan created ‘the PKO Law’ in 1992 to provide a legal framework for international peacekeeping activities, following its financial involvement in the Gulf War of 1991. This paper argues that the PKO Law imposed certain restrictions which complicated the missions of the Japanese Self Defence Forces (SDF) and civilian personnel in operational fields. Post 11 September (2001), the Japanese government created a new legal framework for counter-terrorism and dispatched its SDF personnel to the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET) and the United Nations Mission of Support in East Timor (UNMISET).

Abstract:
AbstractMeat quality was studied in pigs reared in groups kept as units during the fattening period and slaughter (unmixed). The results were compared with conventionally reared pigs, which were mixed during the fattening period, at transport to the abattoir and at lairage (mixed). It is concluded that the unmixed pigs in this study had a better meat quality measured as pH,, pHu, weight loss and also fewer skin lacerations compared with the mixed groups (i.e. less development of pale, soft exudative (PSE) and dark, firm dry (DFD) in the unmixed animals). There were no significant differences in meat colour or in lean content between the unmixed and mixed pigs.

Abstract:
To assess further the effectiveness of bizarre imagery, undergraduates were exposed to a variety of paired-associate, stimulus contexts (unmixed normal, unmixed bizarre, and mixed) and then were tested at one of three retention intervals (0, 3, or 5 days). Consistent with our earlier findings, elements within the mixed context were recalled the best at both the 0- and 3-day intervals. Interestingly, the unmixed bizarre items improved performance as much as mixed ones when testing occurred at 5 days, suggesting that bizarre-only elements needed sufficient time to develop their distinctive memory traces.

Abstract:
This research raises two main issues; First, what is a literary psychology? Second, how is the psychological construction of Maryam in the Qur’an from the perspective of literary psychology? The method used is descriptive-analytical based on the theory of literary psychology. In the context of the story of Maryam, the study of psychology that is intended is the theory of psychoanalysis and complex psychology, especially extrovert and introvert types. This study concludes; First, literary psychology is a form of study and analysis based on the psychological point of view dealing with life events. Second, psychological construction of Maryam in the Qur’an includes; (a) The psychology of convergence between empiricism and nativism. (b) Maryam’s personality structure includes the id, ego and super ego narrated in Maryam [19]: 18, 20 and 22. (c) The personality typology of Maryam is an introvert figure. The indicator is in Maryam [19]: 26 who prefers the “eat and drink” commandment to the “be happy” commandment. The grammatical structure is to consider introvert typology oriented to emotional eating.

Abstract:
In this paper, we study the depth and the Castelnuovo–Mumford regularity of the powers of edge ideals which are unmixed and whose underlying graphs are bipartite. In particular, we prove that the depth of the powers of the edge ideal stabilizes when the exponent is the same as half the number of vertices in the underlying connected bipartite graph. We also define the idea of “drop” in the sequence of depth of powers of ideals. Further, we show that the sequence of depth of the powers of such edge ideals may have any number of “drops”. In the process of proving these results we put forward some interesting examples and some questions for future research. As for regularity, we establish a formula for the regularity of the powers of such edge ideals in terms of the regularity of the edge ideal itself.

Full text
Abstract:
The effect of antemortem handling on behaviour, carcass yield and lean meat quality was determined on Lacombe and Yorkshire entire male pigs mixed within breed 24 h prior to slaughter and on entire males and gilts that were not mixed. In the period immediately after repenning (mixing), 40% of all recorded pen activity was observed, while 17% and 10% of the pen activities were recorded at 6 and 12 h after repenning. During the period immediately after transport to the abattoir, 33% of all pen activities were observed. Mixed pigs accounted for 78% of all activity. Yorkshire male pigs were three times as active as Lacombe male pigs during shipping. Thirty-six percent and 14% of the mixed Yorkshire and Lacombe male pigs had moderate skin blemishes, compared with 12% for unmixed Yorkshire male pigs. Moderate skin blemishes were absent in the unmixed Lacombe male and all female pigs. Dressing percentage and carcass shrinkage were unaffected by mixing during shipping. Dressing percentage was 23 g kg−1 higher in female than in male pigs, while male pigs had 20 g kg−1 greater lean than female pigs. Ultimate pH (48 h) was similar among unmixed pigs (5.53), but higher in mixed Lacombe (5.61) and Yorkshire (5.74) entire male pigs. Based on subjective meat quality evaluation, firm and dry pork was observed in 11% and 43% of the mixed Lacombe and Yorkshire male pigs, but was absent in unmixed male pigs. However, no consistent objective meat quality differences between unmixed male and female pigs were observed. Unmixed entire male pigs had superior carcass composition characteristics, with lean meat quality attributes at least equivalent to those of female pigs (e. g. pH, drip loss, CIE L*, hue angle). Mixing entire male pigs prior to slaughter had marginal but significant effects on carcass blemish scores and meat quality, particularly among Yorkshire pigs. This study suggests entire males, with appropriate antemortem handling, can produce superior carcasses, more efficiently and with pork quality at least equivalent to that of female pigs. Key words: Swine, behaviour, mixing, entire males, carcass yield, meat quality

Abstract:
Context New Acland coal mine in south-eastern Queensland is seeking to rehabilitate mined land to pastures that are safe, stable and sustainable for beef production. Little is known of the productivity and sustainability of grazing previously mined land in the Darling Downs study region. Additionally, information is required to specify management guidelines for sustainable grazing of regional land types retired from cultivation. Aims Identify pasture growth characteristics, rainfall use efficiencies and long-term carrying capacities of subtropical sown pastures established on lands rehabilitated after open-cut coal mining in comparison to sown pastures established on un-mined but previously cultivated lands. Methods Pasture growth and quality (% nitrogen) were observed using the Swiftsynd methodology in ungrazed exclosures with three sites on rehabilitated lands of the Acland Grazing Trial over a 5-year period (2014–2018), and 13 sites on unmined lands over periods of 2–5 years providing data for modelling pasture growth. Key results Peak pasture yield (TSDM for autumn harvests) averaged for 2017 and 2018 was greater (P < 0.1) on rehabilitated sites than unmined Poplar Box land type sites (5957 and 2233 kg/ha respectively) but similar to Brigalow Uplands and Mountain Coolibah land type sites (3946 and 3413 kg/ha respectively). Pasture rundown was evident, with pasture N uptake decreasing over 5 years at some sites. Soil mineral N supply (potentially mineralisable N and mineral N) in spring was a useful indicator of N uptake over the following growing season. Simulations using the GRASP pasture growth model for the grazing trial period predicted rainfall use efficiencies of 12.0, 7.0, 9.1 and 4.8 kg/ha.mm rainfall for rehabilitated sites and unmined sites on Brigalow Uplands, Mountain Coolibah and Poplar Box land types respectively. Long-term carrying capacities based on estimates of long-term median pasture growth and 30% utilisation were 4.39, 3.58 and 5.92 ha/adult equivalent respectively for the unmined land types, and 2.45 ha/adult equivalent for the rehabilitated lands. Conclusions Rehabilitated land can be as productive as unmined but previously cultivated land. Implications Grazing management plans for sustainable management of mined and unmined lands can be developed using data from the present study. The plans will assist with the transition of rehabilitated lands to commercial agriculture.

Abstract:
Climatic impact on re-established ecosystems at reclaimed mined lands may have changed. However, little knowledge is available about the difference in vegetation–climate relationships between reclaimed and unmined lands. In this study, ecological responses to climatic variability on reclaimed and neighbouring unmined lands were estimated using remote-sensing data at the Pingshuo Mega coal mine, one of the largest coal mines with long-term reclamation history in China. Time-series MODIS enhanced vegetation index (EVI) data and meteorological data from 1997 to 2017 were collected. Results show significantly different vegetation–climate relationships between reclaimed and unmined lands. First, the accumulation periods of all climatic variables were much longer on reclaimed mining lands. Second, vegetation on reclaimed lands responded to variabilities in temperature, rainfall, air humidity, and wind speed, while undisturbed vegetation only responded to variabilities of temperature and air humidity. Third, climatic variability made a much higher contribution to EVI variation on reclaimed land (20.0–46.5%) than on unmined land (0.7–1.7%). These differences were primarily caused by limited ecosystem resilience, and changed site hydrology and microclimate on reclaimed land. Thus, this study demonstrates that the legacy effects of surface mining can critically change on-site vegetation–climate relationships, which impacts the structure, functions, and stability of reclaimed ecosystems. Vegetation–climate relationships of reclaimed ecosystems deserve further research, and remote-sensing vegetation data are an effective source for relevant studies.

Abstract:
From the second law of thermodynamics, the concepts of irreversibility, entropy generation, and availability are applied to counterflow, parallel-flow, and cross-flow heat exchangers. In the case of the Cross-flow configuration, there are four types of heat exchangers: I) both fluids unmixed, 2) both fluids mixed, 3) fluid of maximum heat capacity rate mixed and the other unmixed, 4) fluid of minimum heat capacity rate mixed and the other unmixed. In the analysis, the heat exchangers are assumed to have a negligible pressure drop irreversibility. The Counterflow heat exchanger is compared with the other five heat exchanger types and the comparison will indicate which one has the minimum irreversibility rate. In this comparison, only the exit temperatures and the heat transfer rates of the heat exchangers are different. The other conditions (inlet temperatures, mass flow rates, number of transfer units) and the working fluids are the same in the heat exchangers.

We study weighted graphs and their "edge ideals" which are ideals in polynomial rings that are defined in terms of the graphs. We provide combinatorial descriptions of m-irreducible decompositions for the edge ideal of a weighted graph in terms of the combinatorics of "weighted vertex covers". We use these, for instance, to say when these ideals are m-unmixed. We explicitly describe which weighted cycles, suspensions, and trees are unmixed and which ones are Cohen–Macaulay, and we prove that all weighted complete graphs are Cohen–Macaulay.

Abstract:
Background: Tacrolimus is often coadministered with various topical corticosteroids in the treatment of steroid-responsive dermatoses; however, the stability of these products in combination has not been examined extensively. Objective: To assess the in vitro compatibility of three tacrolimus-corticosteroid ointment combinations compared with unmixed controls. Methods: Tacrolimus-clobetasol propionate, tacrolimus-desoximetasone, and tacrolimus-hydrocortisone-17-valerate ointment combinations were prepared, stored with unmixed ointments at three temperature/humidity conditions, and evaluated for stability at days 0, 1, 2, 7, 14, and 28 via reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. Results: There was no significant difference in the rate of drug degradation in mixed and unmixed ointments over time or across temperatures for tacrolimus (time p = .94; temperature p = .44), clobetasol (time p = .98, temperature p = .30), desoximetasone (time p = .98; temperature p = .94), or hydrocortisone-17-valerate (time p = .87, temperature p = .36). Limitations: This study did not examine the compatibility of tacrolimus with nonointment formulations. Conclusion: Tacrolimus-clobetasol propionate (superpotent), tacrolimus-desoximetasone (high potent), and tacrolimus-hydrocortisone-17-valerate (midpotent) ointment combinations are chemically compatible for at least 4 weeks.

Abstract:
The impacts of small-scale mining on the vegetal cover as well the livelihoods of communities in mined areas in developing countries such as Ghana are far-reaching. This study assessed the impacts of small-scale mining on flora of conservation and economic significance through quantification of species richness, and species diversity. Mined and unmined sites were chosen in the Dunkwa East Municipality of Ghana. Five belt transects each (200m × 200m) were constructed in both sites. Each belt transect was divided into 100 quadrats (20m × 20m) and plant species in each of the quadrat were identified in the field and or the herbarium of the School of Biological Sciences, University of Cape Coast. One hundred and fifty seven species distributed in 140 genera and 54 families were identified in the mined area whilst the 209 species identified in the unmined area were in 185 genera and 73 families. Plant families Euphorbiaceae, Rubiaceae and Asteraceae were more diverse whilst Asteraceae, Poaceae and Euphorbiaceae were dominant in the unmined area. In the mined area, however, Poaceae, Euphorbiaceae and Asteraceae were more diverse. Pteridium aquilinum, Tridax procumbens and Waltheria indica in the unmined area and Chromolaena odorata, Sporobolus pyramidalis and Euphorbia hirta in the mined area were the dominant species. Small-scale miming activities have caused reduction in species diversity, richness and economic and commercial values in the area. Higher disturbance of the flora has resulted in more secondary species in the mined area. Restoration is required in the study area.

Abstract:
The role of interface thickness on the propagation of high order internal wave modes is examined using simple analytical models for an unmixed, thick interface and one that has been vigorously mixed. It is shown that for the unmixed case, a local maximum in wave speed occurs as the interface grows from zero thickness, but that only for mode-one waves does the maximum point occur within areas of practical significance. When these models are applied to three wave resonant interactions, it is found that vigorous mixing will augment energy transfer rates when the interface thickness surpasses a certain value.

Full text
Abstract:
The feasibility of using the sulfur/limestone autotrophic denitrification (SLAD) process as an in-situ method for remediation of nitrate-contaminated surface water was investigated. Four bench-scale pond systems with working volumes of 21.4 litres each and hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 30 days were operated under either mixed conditions or unmixed conditions. Under mixed (aerobic) conditions, with the addition of alkalinity to raise pH, NO3−-N removal in the SLAD ponds were 85-100%, while the control reactor showed negative removal. Sulfate production under mixed conditions, due to the activities of non-denitrifying bacteria such as Thiobacillus thiooxidans, was between 1000-2500 mg/l SO42−, which makes the application of the SLAD ponds under aerobic conditions questionable. Under unmixed (anoxic) conditions, NO3−-N removal in the SLAD ponds decreased to 75-88%; sulfate production, however, also decreased by more than 50% due to the inhibition of the activity of non-denitrifying bacteria. Additional batch experiments indicated that sulfate production in the SLAD systems was acceptable under anoxic conditions. Therefore, the application of the SLAD ponds under unmixed (anoxic) conditions is feasible for in-situ remediation of nitrate-contaminated surface water.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTThe effects of mixing on agonistic behaviour and performance were studied in 90 individually fed pigs, grouped at a mean live weight of 23 kg by one of the following three methods: (1) six unmixed littermates; (2) three pigs from each of two litters; and (3) one pig from each of six litters. Unmixed animals (treatment 1) did not fight and the mode of fighting differed between treatment 2 and 3. Mixing decreased daily weight gain in the period 23 to 100 kg for barrows, but not for gilts. For gilts, food conversion efficiency was negatively correlated with the number of received attacks in the observation period (80 min after mixing), and for the barrows to fighting injury scores.

Abstract:
Wet chemical measurements and near infrared spectra of dry ground leaf samples were analysed to test a multivariate regression technique for estimating component spectra. The technique is based on a linear mixture model for log(1/ R) pseudoabsorbance derived from diffuse reflectance measurements. The resulting unmixed spectra for carbohydrates, lignin and protein resemble the spectra of extracted plant carbohydrates, lignin and protein. The unmixed protein spectrum has prominent absorption peaks at wavelengths that have been associated with nitrogen bonds. It therefore appears feasible to incorporate the linear mixture model in whole leaf models of photon absorption and scattering so that effects of varying nitrogen and carbon concentration on leaf reflectance may be simulated.

Abstract:
Twenty-three orchid species were recorded in Alcoa's permanent vegetation-monitoring plots in unmined and rehabilitated jarrah forest. Of these, 22 were identified in the unmined jarrah forest and 20 were recorded in rehabilitated areas of between 1 and 31 years old. Three species (Cyrtostylis ovata, Lyperanthus serratus and Prasophyllum elatum) were only recorded in the unmined forest and one species was only recorded in rehabilitated areas (Diuris carinata). The overall density of native orchids in the forest was 13 755 plants ha–1, 10 times greater than the density in rehabilitated areas (1381 plants ha–1). The most abundant species in the forest were Cyrtostylis robusta, Caladenia flava, Pterostylis nana and Thelymitra crinita, all with densities greater than 1000 plants ha–1. The most abundant species in the rehabilitated areas were Microtis media, Disa bracteata (an introduced species), Caladenia flava, Pterostylis nana, Diuris longifolia and Pterostylis vittata, all with densities greater than 60 plants ha–1. In rehabilitation older than 10 years, the density of orchids increased to 2685 plants ha–1. Burning in rehabilitated areas resulted in large increases in orchid densities. It is believed that orchid colonisation of rehabilitated bauxite mines is dependent on symbiotic mycorrhiza, which are in turn dependent on development of an organic litter component in the soil.

Abstract:
This brief article offers an overview of the various Kurdo-Jewish records preserved in Tehran in the Iranian Parliament Records archives. The documents reflect the perspectives of Jews and non-Jews alike and were originally reported by Kurdish officials of the Jewish colonies in Iranian Kurdistan, by Jewish senators of the National Parliament of Iran, as well as by Kurdish peasants of Kurdistan. Most of the documents are in Persian, with the exception of perhaps nine in French stemming from Westernized Jewish circles.
