Abstract:
In-situ neutron diffraction has been used to study the pseudoelastic-like behaviour of hydrostatically extruded AZ31 magnesium alloy during stress-strain cycles in compression and tension along the extrusion direction. It has been confirmed that the activation of reversal twinning processes during unloading is responsible for the macroscopically observed hysteresis effect. Moreover, neutron diffraction data reveals the existence of high tensile stresses in grains which have just experienced significant twinning activity prior to the start of the unload cycle. It is thus proposed that this tens

A new material model of magnesium alloys, combining both Hill’48 yield function and Cazacu’06 yield function, was developed and programmed into LS-DYNA using user subroutine, in which both slip dominant and twinning/untwinning dominant hardening phenomena were included. First, a cyclic load test was performed, and its finite element analysis was carried out to verify the new material model. Then, the deformation behaviors of the magnesium crash box subjected to the compressive impact loading were investigated using the developed material model. Compared with the experimental results, the new m

Abstract:
In Fe3Ga single crystals with the D03 structure, three types of pseudoelasticities based on dislocation motion, martensitic transformation and twinning take place depending on the heat treatment, the loading axis and the stress sense. In this paper, we report the detail of the transformation and twinning pseudoelasticities in the crystals focusing on the crystallography and the temperature dependence. In particular, the driving force for the twinning pseudoelasticity was discussed, focusing on the atomic arrangement. In Fe3Ga single crystals homogenized or solutionized in the α disordered regi

This work deals with two aspects of the twinning problem. Firstly, an improvement of a known statistical test aimed at detecting twinning is presented and, secondly, a new parametrization of twinning is described, as well as a new method to obtain an accurate estimate of the degreee of twinning. During work on crystals of the dimerization-initiation site of the HIV-1 genomic RNA, perfectly twinned crystals were obtained which were not immediately recognized as such by use of a known statistical method. This method, reminiscent of Wilson tests for the detection of centrosymmetric space groups,
