Abstract:
O artigo se propõe a investigar implicações potenciais de uma política de segurança pública do Governo do Estado do Rio de Janeiro – as Unidades de Polícia Pacificadora – UPPs, em aspectos das oportunidades escolares, especialmente sobre a composição discente das escolas municipais de uma região da cidade. Foi escrito antes da virtual falência desta política, em meio à crise profunda do governo estadual do Rio de Janeiro. O desenho da pesquisa se baseia na ideia de que é possível a ocorrência de alterações na composição socioeconômica nas escolas da região estudada. Para tal, foi acompanhada a evolução dos indicadores educacionais e sociais dessas escolas antes e depois da implantação das UPPs, segundo modelo de série temporal interrompida. Amostras de estudantes de uma área da cidade foram observadas ao longo de cinco anos, por meio de geocodificação. Percebe-se um possível efeito, ainda que discreto, quanto aos impactos das UPPs nas escolas, tornando o grupo de escolas localizadas a mais de 100 metros de favela(s) um pouco mais heterogêneas, quanto ao seu corpo discente, no ano de 2012 quando comparado ao ano de 2008.

Abstract:
Based on the theory of symbolic dynamical systems, we propose a novel computation method to locate and stabilize the unstable periodic points (UPPs) in a two-dimensional dynamical system with a Smale horseshoe. This method directly implies a new framework for controlling chaos. By introducing the subset based correspondence between a planar dynamical system and a symbolic dynamical system, we locate regions sectioned by stable and unstable manifolds comprehensively and identify the specified region containing a UPP with the particular period. Then Newton’s method compensates the accurate location of the UPP with the regional information as an initial estimation. On the other hand, the external force control (EFC) is known as an effective method to stabilize the UPPs. By applying the EFC to the located UPPs, robust controlling chaos is realized. In this framework, we never use ad hoc approaches to find target UPPs in the given chaotic set. Moreover, the method can stabilize UPPs with the specified period regardless of the situation where the targeted chaotic set is attractive. As illustrative numerical experiments, we locate and stabilize UPPs and the corresponding unstable periodic orbits in a horseshoe structure of the Duffing equation. In spite of the strong instability of UPPs, the controlled orbit is robust and the control input retains being tiny in magnitude.

Abstract:
Although cognitive distortions are widely acknowledged in the explanation of impulsivity-related psychopathologies (and more recently in the explanation of specific impulsive behaviors), no study has systematically verified whether they can also explain the cognitive processes underlying these impulsivity traits of personality: urgency, lack of premeditation, lack of perseverance, and sensation seeking (UPPS). Moreover, childhood maltreatment has been frequently associated with both cognitive distortions and impulsive behaviors but never with UPPS traits. A study was conducted on undergraduate students to examine the influence of cognitive distortions and childhood maltreatment on four dimensions of impulsivity from the UPPS Impulsive Behavior Scale. Regression analyses revealed that Premature Processing, a term applied to a group of seven cognitive distortions such as emotional reasoning and confusing needs and wants, as well as childhood maltreatment, was able to predict significantly and independently the Negative Urgency dimension of impulsivity, above and beyond gender and the three other subscales of the UPPS Impulsive Behavior Scale. Coherent with Beck’s cognitive model, these results suggest that the Negative Urgency trait is associated with cognitive distortions that can undermine thought processes in a variety of ways, increasing the likelihood of acting rashly. However, more studies are needed to develop instruments and identify specific forms of cognitive distortions associated with impulsivity traits.

Validation of the Spanish version of the brief UPPS-P Impulsivity Scale for children and adolescents (BUPPS-P NA)Abstract: The Scale of Impulsivity for Children and Adolescents (UPPS-P NA) is a self-report instrument that assesses the impulsivity trait in children and adolescents. However, the UPPS-P NA does not have a short version in Spanish. The present study aimed to develop and validate a short Spanish version of the UPPS-P NA (BUPPS-P NA). First, the UPPS-P NA questionnaire was adapted to Spanish and validated in a sample of 257 children and adolescents (M age = 12.87, SD = 5.64; 61.9% female). Then, the BUPPS-P NA was developed and validated in a sample of 1777 children and adolescents (M age = 12.59, SD = 1.37; 54.2% women). The invariance of the BUPPS-P NA as to biological sex was evaluated also. The UPPS-P NA and BUPPS-P NA scales showed an adequate fit to the data. Also, the BUPPS-P NA Scale was invariant across sex. In summary, the BUPPS-P NA Scale presents adequate psychometric properties to measure the impulsivity trait in children and adolescents.Keywords: Trait impulsivity; childhood; adolescence; validity; reliability; invariance across sex.Resumen: La Escala de Impulsividad para Niños y Adolescentes (UPPS-P NA) es un instrumento de autoinforme que mide los rasgos de impulsividad en niños y adolescentes. Sin embargo, no posee una versión breve en español. El objetivo de este trabajo fue desarrollar y validar una versión breve (BUPPS-P NA) y en español de la UPPS-P NA. Para ello, primero se adaptó al español el cuestionario UPPS-P NA y se validó en una muestra de 257 niños y adolescentes (Medad = 12.87, DT = 5.64; 61.9% mujeres). Posteriormente, se desarrolló y validó el cuestionario BUPPS-P NA en una muestra de 1777 niños y adolescentes (Medad = 12.59, DT = 1.37; 54.2% mujeres). También se evaluó la invariancia del BUPPS-P NA en cuanto al sexo biológico. Los cuestionarios UPPS-P NA y BUPPS-P NA presentaron un ajuste adecuado a los datos. Asimismo, el cuestionario BUPPS-P NA resultó invariante en función del sexo. ABSTRACTUndecaprenyl pyrophosphate synthase (UppS) catalyzes the formation of the C55lipid carrier (UPP) that is essential for bacterial peptidoglycan biosynthesis. We selected here a vancomycin (VAN)-resistant derivative ofBacillus subtilisW168 that contains a single-point mutation in the ribosome-binding site of theuppSgene designateduppS1. Genetic reconstruction experiments demonstrate that theuppS1allele is sufficient to confer low-level VAN resistance and causes reduced UppS translation. The decreased level of UppS rendersB. subtilisslightly more susceptible to many late-acting cell wall antibiotics, including β-lactams, but significantly more resistant to fosfomycin andd-cycloserine, antibiotics that interfere with the very early steps of cell wall synthesis. We further show that theuppS1allele leads to slightly elevated expression of the σMregulon, possibly helping to compensate for the stress caused by a decrease in UPP levels. Notably, theuppS1mutation increases resistance to VAN, fosfomycin, andd-cycloserine in wild-type cells, but this effect is greatly reduced or eliminated in asigMmutant background. Our findings suggest that, although UppS is an attractive antibacterial target, incomplete inhibition of UppS function may lead to increased resistance to some cell wall-active antibiotics.

Abstract:
The current study attempts to clarify the multi‐faceted nature of impulsivity through the use of the four‐factor UPPS Impulsive Behaviour scale. In order to build the nomological network surrounding this scale, the UPPS was administered to individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD), pathological gamblers (PG), alcohol abusers (divided into two groups based on the presence of antisocial features), and a control group. Several of the UPPS scales (e.g. Urgency, lack of Premeditation, and Sensation Seeking) differentiated the BPD, PG, and alcohol abusers with antisocial features from a group of non‐antisocial alcohol abusers and a control group. Overall, the UPPS scales accounted for between 7% (pathological gambling) and 64% (borderline personality disorder features) of the overall variance in the psychopathology measures. Individual UPPS scales also made unique contributions to several of these disorders, which may provide insight into which of these personality traits may predispose individuals to behave in maladaptive or problematic ways. The results provide support for the differentiation of impulsivity‐related constructs into the current four‐factor model. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

The present research broadens the understanding of the multidimensional nature of impulsivity by investigating the validity of a German adaptation of the UPPS scale of impulsivity ( Whiteside & Lynam, 2001 ). Two studies utilizing paper-pencil and computerized administration replicated the internal structure of the UPPS, provided evidence for convergent and discriminant validity utilizing self- and peer-reports, demonstrated incremental validity for the UPPS scale over the respective personality facets, and investigated the relationships between self-reported impulsivity and behavioral measures including perceptual speed and response latencies. Taken together, results not only confirm the reliability and validity of the German UPPS scale but also prove its benefit in predicting relevant criteria beyond well-established personality questionnaires. Significant but weak correlations with behavioral measures of cognitive aspects of impulsivity were particularly observed for (lack of) Premeditation and (lack of) Perseverance.

Abstract:
UPPS (undecaprenyl pyrophosphate synthase) catalyses consecutive condensation reactions of FPP (farnesyl pyrophosphate) with eight isopentenyl pyrophosphates to generate C55 UPP, which serves as a lipid carrier for bacterial peptidoglycan biosynthesis. We reported the co-crystal structure of Escherichia coli UPPS in complex with FPP. Its phosphate head-group is bound to positively charged arginine residues and the hydrocarbon moiety interacts with hydrophobic amino acids including L85, L88 and F89, located on the α3 helix of UPPS. We now show that the monophosphate analogue of FPP binds UPPS with an eight times lower affinity (Kd=4.4 μM) compared with the pyrophosphate analogue, a result of a larger dissociation rate constant (koff=192 s−1). Farnesol (1 mM) lacking the pyrophosphate does not inhibit the UPPS reaction. GGPP (geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate) containing a larger C20 hydrocarbon tail is an equally good substrate (Km=0.3 μM and kcat=2.1 s−1) compared with FPP. The shorter C10 GPP (geranyl pyrophosphate) displays a 90-fold larger Km value (36.0±0.1 μM) but similar kcat value (1.7±0.1 s−1) compared with FPP. Replacement of L85, L88 or F89 with Ala increases FPP and GGPP Km values by the same amount, indicating that these amino acids are important for substrate binding, but do not determine substrate specificity. With GGPP as a substrate, UPPS still catalyses eight isopentenyl pyrophosphate condensation reactions to synthesize C60 product. Computer modelling suggests that the upper portion of the active-site tunnel, where cis double bonds of the product reside, may be critical for determining the final product chain length.

Introduction: The aim of the present study was to validate the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale (BIS-11th version) scale as well as the short version of the Impulsive Behavior Scale (UPPS-P) in a population of Greek young adults. Secondly, we aimed at validating the BIS-11 in older adults. Methods: 167 (Group 1) university students completed the Greek version of the BIS-11 (BIS-11-G) and the UPPS (UPPS-P-G) scales. Additionally, BIS-11-G was also administered to 167 (Group 2) cognitively intact older adults, to identify whether it could be used to measure impulsivity in an older adult population. Results: Both scales had satisfactory internal reliability and test–retest reliability, as well as convergent validity in the young adult population. In regard to the factor structure, a principal component analysis (PCA) extracted two factors for the BIS-11-G in the young adult population and three factors in older adults, as well as three factors for the short UPPS-P-G in young adults. Conclusions: The BIS-11-G and the UPPS-P-G scales can be used to measure different aspects of impulsivity in the Greek population of different ages in research and clinical practice.

Impulsivity is an important and multifaceted psychological construct. Recently, Whiteside and Lynam (2001) have developed the UPPS Impulsive Behavior Scale that distinguishes four dimensions of impulsivity: Urgency, lack of Premeditation, lack of Perseverance, and Sensation seeking. In the present study, we investigated the psychometric properties of a French adaptation of the UPPS Impulsive Behavior Scale. Two hundred and thirty-four undergraduate students completed the UPPS Scale. Exploratory and confirmatory analyses revealed a four factors solution similar to that found in the original study. Also, the results indicated that there was good to very good internal reliability for the four subscales.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar mudanças de curto prazo na performance escolar relacionadas à implantação das UPPs na cidade do Rio de Janeiro. Avaliamos o efeito da ocupação policial pré-UPP nas notas de exames bimestrais aplicados em escolas municipais da cidade. Para reforçar a interpretação de efeito causal, usamos como pressuposto de identificação o fato de a decisão de implantar as UPPs em determinadas favelas seguir principalmente motivações independentes de características de alunos que afetem suas notas, o que nos permitiria utilizar um estimador de diferenças-em-diferenças com efeitos fixos. Além disso, utilizamos um argumento semelhante ao de Autor (2003) com a avaliação dos efeitos do tratamento em períodos anteriores e posteriores ao do tratamento a fim de facilitar a interpretação dos efeitos como causais e gerar mais informações sobre a heterogeneidade no tempo dos efeitos das UPPs nas notas.

Abstract:

Finn upps ämnesverktyg är ett imponerande inspirationsverktyg för teknikundervisande lärare. Genom att identifiera och lösa ett problem, så får man eleverna att tänka i nya banor. Undervisningsmaterialet och lärarhandledningens upplägg, ger lärarna möjlighet att använda det i sin helhet eller bara välja ut enskilda delar. Men vilka erfarenheter har lärarna erhållit genom att arbeta med ämnesverktyget i undervisningen? Undersökningen genomfördes via en webbaserad kvantitativ enkät. Resultatet av undersökningen visade att eleverna lättare uppnått delar av skolans mål i teknik med stöd av Finn upps ämnesverktyg. En majoritet av lärarna instämde i att elevernas kvalitativa kunskaper påverkades positivt, vilket kunde leda till ett högre betyg. Dessutom intresserade sig flickorna mer för teknikämnet än tidigare forskning visat.

O trabalho em tela tem como principal interesse analisar o funcionamento e as representações acerca do trabalho desenvolvido pela Ouvidoria das UPPs. O ponto de partida da pesquisa foi verificar o quanto se confirmava ou não a expectativa da ouvidoria como um canal privilegiado de comunicação entre polícia e comunidade em favelas com Unidades de Polícia Pacificadora (UPPs). De modo geral, buscou-se compreender quais dificuldades os policiais envolvidos com a Ouvidoria das UPPs encontravam para a implementação de uma política de segurança pública que valorizasse ideias como participação e accountability – marcos ideológicos fundamentais para organizações policiais nas democracias modernas. Argumenta-se que, a despeito da expectativa de que ouvidorias devessem atuar no campo do controle externo, a Ouvidoria das UPPs devido uma série de características estruturais e do contexto de extrema violência armada nas favelas cariocas funciona basicamente como um serviço para realização de denúncias de crime organizado.
This work has as its main interest to analyze the performance and the representations around the job done by UPPs Ombudsman. The research s jump start was to verify if the expectations could be confirmed or not about the ombudsman as a privileged channel between the police and the community in the slums with the Pacifying Police Units (Unidades de Polícia Pacificadora – UPPs). In an overall, it was tried to reach the understanding of which difficulties were found by the policeman involved with the UPPs Ombudsman, to implement a police of public security which appreciate ideas like participation and accountability – fundamental ideals for the police organizations in the modern democracies. It has been told that, despite of the expectation that the ombudsman should act in the external control field, the UPPs Ombudsman, due to a lot of structural characteristics and from the context of extreme weaponized violence in the carioca slums, it basically works as a service of reporting complaints of the organized crime.

Ao longo do século XX o Rio passou por amplas reformas urbanas, sempre focadas em pontos estratégicos da cidade. Hoje, mais uma vez, vivenciamos um profundo reordenamento espacial, notadamente na Zona Oeste. No âmbito político da segurança pública, o governo estadual implanta as Unidades de Polícia Pacificadora (UPPs), em comunidades consideradas perigosas pelo poder do tráfico de drogas ali presente. O programa que começou em 2008 com 2 comunidades ocupadas, hoje já atinge 24. A partir daí uma rápida mudança da abordagem do jornal O Globo sobre os problemas da cidade tem acontecido. A violência, que antes era destaque nas páginas desse periódico, de 2009 pra cá vem ocupando um plano secundário. Essa dissertação dedica-se a analisar, através do réveillon carioca, a mudança de enfoque de O Globo sobre o Rio após a eleição da cidade para sediar dois megaeventos de amplitude mundial: a Copa do Mundo de Futebol de 2014, e os Jogos Olímpicos de 2016.
A lo largo del siglo XX, la ciudad del Rio de Janeiro pasó por grandes reformas urbanas, siempre centradas en puntos estratégicos. Hoy día, más una vez estamos experimentando una profunda reorganización espacial, notablemente en la Zona Oeste. En el ámbito político de la seguranza pública, el gobierno estadual implantó las Unidades de Policía Pacificadora (UPPs), en comunidades peligrosas debido el tráfico de drogas. El programa de seguranza que empezó con dos unidades, hoy día atinge veinte cuatro. A partir de ahí un rápido cambio en el abordaje del periódico O Globo acerca de los problemas de la ciudad sucedió. La violencia que antes era destaque en primera plana del periódico, desde 2009 hay ocupado planos secundarios. Esta disertación se dedica a analizar por medio del Reveillón Carioca la mudanza de enfoque del periódico O Globo acerca del Rio después de la elección de la ciudad para recibir dos mega eventos deportivos de connotación mundial: la Copa del Mundo de Fútbol de 2014, y los Juegos Olímpicos de 2016.

Nessa dissertação procede-se à análise das narrativas do jornal O Globo durante a ocupação da favela da Rocinha pelas forças oficiais, em novembro de 2011. Pretende-se identificar as representações veiculadas pela mídia nesse especial momento da vida da cidade, que convive com a implantação do projeto das Unidades de Polícia Pacificadora UPPs e a expectativa de recepcionar, nos próximos anos, dois megaeventos esportivos internacionais: a Copa do Mundo (2014) e as Olimpíadas (2016). O mote da pesquisa foi, através da análise das representações sobre o processo de ocupação, descobrir pistas que permitissem pensar o impacto dessa medida sobre a cidade e seus habitantes. Foi possível perceber que, diferentemente do que ocorria nas últimas décadas, a violência urbana não se apresentou como questão de grande interesse para o jornal, aparecendo apenas incidentalmente como eventos pontuais em um contexto predominantemente pacífico. Prevaleceu o discurso otimista em relação à cidade e seu futuro. Nesse sentido, diversas matérias registraram o sucesso da operação policial, comemorando a substituição da política policial de confronto pelas ações de inteligência, fator que teria permitido a retomada do morro sem que um tiro sequer fosse disparado. Ênfase especial foi dada às UPPs, sistematicamente representadas de forma positiva pelo jornal, moradores, empresários e especialistas, que apontariam o projeto como fator responsável pela onda de esperança e otimismo que envolve a cidade. As UPPs seriam, ainda, o elemento que permitiria, aos cariocas, ressignificar as favelas da cidade, afastando a aura de violência a elas associadas, fazendo desaparecer o medo que esses espaços da cidade historicamente causam na população em geral, integrando as favelas na cidade formal. O processo de pacificação das favelas do Rio de Janeiro, personificado nas UPPs, seria a ponte que permitiria, à cidade, se redescobrir, se reinventar, recuperando a alegria e a auto-estima, deixando para trás as décadas de pessimismo e desesperança. Observou-se, assim, que durante o período pesquisado, a dinâmica das narrativas rompeu com o padrão anterior de representação de cidade violenta, privilegiando o discurso da cidade pacificada, embora com episódios violentos pontuais.
The research draws your attention towards the narratives of the newspaper O Globo during the occupation of the Rocinha favela by official forces in November 2011. Intended to identify what kind of representations was reported by the media at special moment of city life, which coexists with the implementation of the project of Pacifying Police Units (UPPs) and the expectation to host two international sporting mega events: World Cup (2014) and the Olympics (2016). Analyzing media representations about the process of occupation, the goal of the research was to discover clues that help to think the impact of this political measure on the city and its inhabitants. It was possible to realize that, unlike what had been happening in recent decades, urban violence not presented as a matter of great interest to the newspapers, appearing only incidentally as occasional issues in a predominantly pacific context. Optimistic speech prevailed in relation to the city and its future. Accordingly, several matters reported on the success of the police operation, celebrating the replacement of police policy of confrontation by the actions of intelligence, which would have allowed the resumption of the Hill without a shot even being fired. Special emphasis was given to UPPs, systematically represented positively by the newspaper, residents, businessmen and specialists, who pointed out the project as a factor responsible for the wave of hope and optimism that surrounds the city. The UPP would be the element that would bring new meanings to the slums of the city. The aura of violence associated with slums was away, making disappear the fear that these spaces of the city historically cause in the general population. The UPP would be responsible for integrating slums in the city. The process of pacification of Rio slums, personified in the UPPs, would be the bridge that would allow the city to rediscover, to reinvent itself, retrieving the joy and self-esteem, leaving behind decades of pessimism and hopelessness. It was observed that during the search, the dynamics of media narratives broke with the previous pattern of representation of a violent city and has opted for an optimistic speech, albeit with occasional violent episodes.

Impulsivitet och upplevd kontroll är båda viktiga konstrukt inom

psykologi. Sambandet mellan dem har varit oklart delvis pga

otydlighet och oenighet gällande impulsivitetsbegreppet. På senare tid

har nya teoretiska modeller av impulsivitet som ett mångfasetterat

konstrukt utvecklats. Syftet med denna studie var dels att undersöka

psykometriska egenskaper hos en svensk översättning av UPPSskalan,

dels att undersöka sambandet mellan upplevd kontroll och

impulsivitet med hjälp av den nya UPPS-modellen. Datainsamling

genomfördes med självskattningsskalor. Deltagare var dels studenter

(n=66) och dels rättpsykiatriska/frivårdsklienter (n=12). Resultaten

visade ett signifikant, medelstort och delvis komplext samband mellan

upplevelser av kontroll och impulsiviteter. Gällande UPPS-modellen

gav resultat från faktoranalysen stöd för den förväntade underliggande

strukturen. I ljuset av tidigare forskning fanns en delvis överraskande

skillnad mellan student- och patientgrupper på två av fyra delskalor.

Because of the high levels of violence practiced by the Military Police of Rio de Janeiro State (Brazil), especially if its lethality is taken into consideration, the Pacifying Police Units - Unidades de Polícia Pacificadora (UPPs) in Portuguese - were created in 2008 to work in some favelas (slums or shanty towns) of the state’s capital, the city of Rio de Janeiro. This form of policing became the object of attention of several social scientists due to its apparently less violent action in these specific urban spaces, which are historically marked by a social stigma and constitute a special target for police action. In this thesis, we analyze some of the research work that emphasized the UPPs’ characteristics as possibilities for a new and less violent police. It is argued that, despite the features that make the UPPs to be apparently less violent, it is necessary to take into account several other aspects that sociologically explain the police action in Rio de Janeiro and the UPPs. The social construction of Brazilian citizenship and public space affects the way Brazilians build the notion of equality between individuals and social groups, relating it to similarity between themselves and accepting as natural the unequal treatment given by the state’s institutions. This legal and juridical culture, associated to the new economic and financial context that the city of Rio de Janeiro has been going through in the last years, refers to the necessity of state control over some favelas to be able to increase the value of such urban spaces, through land speculation, in order to achieve a surplus-value by implementing new economic and lucrative activities. This state policy is heavily based on “pacifying” the favelas through the politics of security, in which police play a major and important role. Therefore, the thesis begins by offering an explanation of the Brazilian views of public space and citizenship, resorting to some social scientists studies that dealt with the specifics of those notions in Brazil. Then we elucidate how a documentary analysis was made explaining how the UPPs are understood in Brazil. Later, dissertating about the historical development of favelas and police in Rio de Janeiro, explaining the conjuncture in which the UPPs were implemented and how they are understood. Yet, in our research, we consider that the UPPs are not breaking away from the paradigm of the Military Police of Rio de Janeiro State, but using a different practice to give continuity to a traditional function of policing (repression) and a process that one could call of “criminalization” of favelas.

Prospective memory is colloquially known as “remembering to remember” and refers to forming an intention in the present time to fulfill at some point in the future. It has previously been studied within the context of executive functioning (i.e., purposive and goal directed behavior) and impulsive behaviors (e.g., gambling, risk seeking) within clinical populations. This study sought to further elucidate the relationships of impulsivity and executive functions on prospective memory in a non-clinical population. One hundred and nine undergraduates completed the UPPS-P impulsivity self-report questionnaire, three cognitive tasks measuring components of executive function, (i.e., planning, inhibition, and switching), and a Complex Prospective Memory Task that included Time- and Event-based cues. The UPPS-P and executive function tasks did not significantly predict the Complex Prospective Memory Task. However, executive function was found to be a significant predictor above and beyond that of impulsivity for a component of the Time-based prospective memory task. Implications of the results and future directions are discussed.

Esta dissertação analisa o significado das Unidades de Polícia Pacificadora (UPP) enquanto técnica de controle incorporada ao espaço, usando como pano de fundo a fragmentação do tecido sociopolítico-espacial em curso na cidade do Rio de Janeiro que, junto com o biopoder Foucaultiano, propicia a formação das UPPs como novos dispositivos de segurança protetores da Raça Pura e assim, possam legitimar o poder do Estado. Além disso, a presente dissertação observa o significado da favela para a cidade do Rio de Janeiro e a regulação de poder dentro dela no período Pós-UPP, em especial, a forma de atuação dos principais agentes reguladores desse poder: traficantes de drogas armados; moradores e policiais. Finalmente, mede o grau de violência na Santa Marta antes e depois da UPP, usando os dados do Instituto de Segurança Pública (ISP) e entrevistas realizadas durante a pesquisa além de estabelecer alguns limites e possibilidades dessa nova política no que tange a prevenção da violência, usando três categorias de análise: redistributiva; institucionalista e culturalista.
This dissertation analyzes the meaning of Pacifying Police Units (UPP) as a control technique incorporated into space, using the backdrop of the sociopolitical tissue of space fragmentation underway in the city of Rio de Janeiro, which together with the Foucaltian bio-power, promotes the formation of UPP as new safety devices guards Purebred and thus can legitimize State power. Moreover, this paper points out the significance of the slum to the city of Rio de Janeiro and the regulation of power within during its post-UPP, in particular the form of performance of the main regulators of this power: armed drug traffickers, residents and police. Finally, it measures the degree of violence in Santa Marta before and after the UPP, using data from the Institute of Public Safety (ISP) and interviews conducted during the research to establish some limits and possibilities of this new policy regarding violence prevention, using three categories of analysis: redistributive; institutionalist and culturalist.

Impulsivity has been implicated as a factor in cannabis use and cannabis-related problems. However, impulsivity is a multi-faceted construct. Recent work in substance use has used the UPPS-P Impulsive Behavior Questionnaire (UPPS-P), which is designed to assess five facets of impulsivity. Research examining these facets of impulsivity and cannabis use characteristics is somewhat inconsistent, but generally has suggested that Sensation Seeking and Lack of Premeditation may be related to cannabis use and Negative Urgency may be associated with cannabis-related problems. In addition, a substantial literature exists suggesting that mindfulness, the ability to focus one’s attention on the present moment in a non-judgmental, non-reactive, and tolerant manner, is decreased in substance users. However, the literature specific to mindfulness and cannabis use characteristics is relatively inconsistent. Thus, the aim of the current study was to replicate and extend prior research on the associations between impulsivity, mindfulness, and cannabis use. A community sample of adults (N = 289, 137 female) completed an online survey that included the Short UPPS-P (SUPPS-P) impulsiveness questionnaire, Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), and questions about cannabis use and cannabis-related problems. A logistic regression in the full sample revealed that SUPPS-P Lack of Premeditation and MAAS total scores, as well as alcohol consumption, were significant positive predictors of cannabis user status (i.e., use in the past 30 days). The Lack of Premeditation finding is consistent with prior studies, but the association between increased mindfulness and cannabis user status was unexpected. It’s possible that the mind set and physical setting in which cannabis is used has influence on the subjective experience, and thus, users may be seeking effects relevant for an overall sense of well-being similar to that seen in research on psychedelic drug use. In the subsample of cannabis users that reported use in the past 30 days (n = 87), no significant associations were revealed between impulsivity facets or mindfulness and cannabis use frequency. No impulsivity or mindfulness variables emerged as significant predictors of cannabis-related problems in users; although, consistent with prior studies, the association with SUPPS-P Negative Urgency approached significance. Alcohol-related problems were associated with cannabis-related problems as well. These findings extend the previous literature and have implications in identifying risk for problematic/disordered use as well as improving upon interventions and treatment approaches for problematic cannabis use.

Abstract:
When a wind turbine installation jack-up performs a heavy lifting operation with the crane it affects the loads on the foundation. For these units the crane typically encircles a leg or is positioned close to it. Consequently, that leg attracts most of the loads due to crane operations. For each location jack-ups prove the capacity of the foundation by applying a controlled, high load at each of the footings before commencing operations. This process is known as preloading. The achieved preload at the jack-up’s foundation determines the operational limit. Exceedance of the preload value may result in foundation instability. Depending on the site’s foundation characteristics the consequences of such an exceedance range from negligible to catastrophic failure. GustoMSC has developed Operator Support System (OSS) software with the purpose to make the operator aware of the limitations imposed by the preloaded foundation. The application outlines operational limits based on real-time data from the jack-up, jacking system and crane which enables the operators to safely unlock the full potential of their wind turbine installation jack-up.

Abstract:
Straipsnyje išnagrinėta Vilnios upės dugno nuosėdų tarša sunkiaisiais metalais. Tiriamasis objektas yra Vilniuje, Vilnios upėje, 7 kilometrų ruože. Nagrinėta sunkiųjų metalų koncentracija upės dugno nuosėdose. Tyrimai atlikti abiejuose upės krantuose, atsižvelgiant į šalia esančius taršos objektus. Nuosėdų tyrimui naudotas rentgeno fluorescencinis spektrometras. Gauti rezultatai apdoroti ir palyginti su didžiausiomis leistinomis sunkiųjų metalų koncentracijomis (DLK) Lietuvos upėse. Nustatomos ėmimo vietos užterštumo kategorijos (laipsniai) pagal Zd rodiklį (HN 60:2004) taip įvertinant didžiausias taršos susitelkimo vietas. Tirtajame Vilnios upės ruože, viename mėginių paėmimo taške, yra nustatytas didelis suminis rodiklis (Zd), kuris siekia 118, o tai sudaro apie 9 % visų tirtųjų mėginių paėmimo vietų Vilnios upės tirtajame ruože.
