Abstract Tiny hoopoe-like birds of the extinct family Messelirrisoridae are among the predominant small perching birds in the Middle Eocene (ca. 49 million years ago) avifauna of Messel (Hessen, Germany). Members of the Messelirrisoridae are the earliest-known representatives of the hoopoe/wood-hoopoe lineage and are sister taxa of recent Upupidae (hoopoes) and Phoeniculidae (wood-hoopoes). Outgroup comparison with the Messelirrisoridae facilitates character-state analysis within the Phoeniculidae and Upupidae. In this study, I describe a new species, Messelirrisor grandis, which is the larges

Abstract The present study aims to supplement anatomical data about the cranial skeleton and describe some cranial modifications of the common hoopoe, Upupa epops Linnaeus, 1758, by using several techniques. The common hoopoe has small skull and characterized by presence of air space (pneumatization) within their bones. The degree of pneumatization increased especially within the temporal region. The skull of the common hoopoe possesses different types of kinetic hinges; one hinge locates between frontal and nasal region (frontonasal hinge) allows depression/elevation of upper beak relative to

Background: Hoopoe, Upupa epops belongs to the family Upupidae. It is found across Asia, Europe and Africa. Its habitat includes grasslands, savannas, wooded steppes, and forests. Main threats to the survival of the Hoopoe are habitat loss and climate changes.
Objectives: The present study was planned in district Gujrat (32.7037°N, 73.9585°E), Punjab Pakistan. Due to habitat loss and cutting of Sheesham tree (Dalbergia sissoo), the natural nesting sites was very scarce.
Methodology: Thirty three nested sites of Hoopoe were spotted and checked for chick’s presence regarding timing a
