Abstract:
Leadership has an expansive meaning because it is a field study that comprises several different dimensions such as psychology, management, organization, and politics. On the other hand, the study of leadership’s role on urban development issues is still relatively scarce, especially in developing countries. The literature shows that local governments under the mayor as the highest-ranking position of municipal prioritise urban development is very much a function of socio-cultural norms and leadership styles. Therefore, mayoral leadership is vital regarding local government interventions to promote urban beautification in Indonesia. It is undeniable that leadership is a significant aspect of urban governance. Taking a case study in Surabaya, evidence shows that leadership plays important roles in urban governance, especially in facilitating and advising processes. Drawing on analysis of relevant documents, literature, and interviews with key decision-makers in Surabaya, the findings indicate that the quality of mayoral leadership has played a vital role in enhancing the beautification of urban form in Surabaya as a result of the urban design process. The mechanisms underlying this role include that the mayor has a sound understanding of the urban design and has been able to intervene to insist on good urban design as policy and has the standing to approach officials and community members on the urban beautification process. The quality of mayoral leadership has played a vital role in shaping the better urban beautification of Surabaya. A Mayor who has a wide-ranging grasp of urban design has advantages for the local government.

Abstract:
Urban improvement is one of the urgent problems of modern urban planning. It solves the task of creating a favorable living environment with the provision of comfortable conditions for all types of activities of the population. Urban improvement includes a number of measures to improve the sanitary and hygienic conditions of residential buildings, transport and engineering services for the population, artificial lighting of urban areas and equipping them with the necessary equipment, improving the urban environment with the help of landscaping.
The tasks of urban improvement are reduced to the creation of healthy, expedient and favorable living conditions for the urban population. In solving these tasks, external landscaping, functional-spatial structure and subject equipment of open areas, landscape design are gaining more and more importance. The problems of creating ecologically clean cities, problems of protecting monuments of historical and cultural heritage are becoming more and more acute.
The landscaping and landscaping system includes a complex of programs and plans, the components of which are closely related. In this aspect, comprehensive landscaping means the development and implementation of a set of measures aimed at creating and developing an aesthetic and socio-ecological organized urban environment. The most important components of this environment are the arrangement of courtyard facades of buildings; architectural and planning organization of the territory; reconstruction; lighting of territories, buildings, structures, green spaces; placement of small architectural forms and objects of urban design; placement of advertising, elements of visual communication and information.
Inner-city green areas have a significant cultural and everyday significance, connected with the system of everyday services of the population, in addition, they play a significant role in the hygienic sense, as they affect the microclimate of the city or district, and are also an organic part of the architectural solution of the city as one of the means of creating an ensemble - as a complement to the building Today, special attention is paid to the improvement of the territory.
The modern stage of the development of urban improvement and greening poses a number of new tasks that cannot be solved without extensive use of the achievements of scientific and technical progress, advanced practical experience.
In order to determine the main ways of solving problems in the field of beautification and greening, an analysis of the current state of regulatory and legal support for the process of beautification and greening of the urban territory was carried out; analysis of modern domestic and foreign practices of urban improvement and greening; proposed proposals for improving the system of landscaping and greening of the city.
The novelty of this work consists in determining the main ways of solving problems in the field of landscaping and landscaping and developing specific recommendations and proposals for optimizing the process of landscaping and landscaping of urban areas.
The work is based on a systemic approach, within which the following methods were used: historical, which examined the history of the centuries-old experience of green construction, systemic, comparative. The empirical basis of the research is a traditional analysis of literature and practical sources. The work has a theoretical and methodological nature. Based on the study of literary sources, modern domestic and foreign practices of urban improvement and greening; the level of regulatory and legal support for the process of beautification and landscaping in cities, proposed proposals regarding the composition of measures for beautification and landscaping of urban areas, and the main ways of solving problems in the field of beautification and landscaping. In the opinion of the author, the main results of the work should include theoretical provisions and conclusions, methodological recommendations that may be useful for organizations engaged in greening and beautification of the urban area. Abstract:
This paper aims to trace the history of colonial urban planning in Nigerian cities, its legacies of urban design and beautification of the environment. In Nigeria the town planning institutional frame works was established under the colonial rule which persisted to the post colonial period. In this sense the colonial era was a phase in which European institutions and values systems were transferred to Nigeria, one of which is the concept of environmental beautification with the use of plants. An investigation is carried out on the influence of colonial rule on landscaping and urban design. Findings show that the introduction of deliberate landscaping to city planning have over the years systematically led to loss of valuable indigenous plants partly due to the introduction of exotic plants. These are plants that initially were seen as sources of cure for several ailments. There is therefore the need for a rethink as to the type of plants to be used for landscaping.

Abstract:
The daily increase in population and the complexity of urban issues, shortages in suitable financial and human resources, environmental pollutions, etc. sometimes cause the citizens to forget or be unable to fulfill their needs in the hobnob of life, pollution, tiredness and the routine of life. This has led some factors such as the closeness to the work and living place of human beings to nature, small green spaces within the cities and their benefits for the people receive less attention in our time. Cities, as centers of man's activities and life, in order to keep their sustainability have no way but to accept the structure and they have no function affected by natural systems. Here, urban green spaces, as the vital and inseparable part of the cities' unified form in their metabolism, have basic roles and their shortage can cause serious disorders in the lives of the cities. Public green spaces have a significant impact in improving the life quality of the citizens, liveliness and the beautification of the city. With regard to these issues, it has been tried in this paper to analyze the mental and social impacts of urban green spaces on the improvement of the citizens' life quality and their roles in the beautification of urban spaces and their liveliness by using the attraction-repulsion pattern with an approach to green spaces and by analyzing case studies among the citizens. The results indicated that the citizens use green spaces mostly to have access to clean air, family entertainment, liveliness, being away from the pollutions and the smallness of their houses, walking, relieving their tiredness, running away from their routine lives, etc. and these spaces have significant impact in the beautification of urban environments.

Abstract:
This study examines the effects of a neighbourhood greening and beautification strategy called Clean & Green on crime prevention and reduction. Point level data for all Part I index crimes and Clean & Green efforts in the study area from 2005 to 2014 are analysed using spatial and linear regression with two key modifications: (1) controlling for temporal and spatial dependencies between points; and (2) allowing for potentially non-linear temporal trends in the effect of cumulative greening. To accommodate those modifications, generalised additive models (GAMs) were employed. The analyses of violent and property crimes suggest that greening efforts are increasingly protective over time. The findings demonstrate that the elimination of blight and disorder via neighbourhood greening and beautification efforts can be an effective tool for crime prevention and control in communities.

Abstract:
Against the backdrop of rapid economic growth and continuous expansion of road networks in China, the planning, design, greening, and beautification of roads at all levels have entered a systematic implementation phase. Particularly noteworthy is the emergence of dynamic road landscape design as a major focus in the research on urban road beautification in the new era. This paper proposes a road dynamic landscape optimization design scheme based on the fuzzy clustering algorithm. It analyzes the primary elements constituting dynamic road landscapes and summarizes the fundamental principles for designing such landscapes. The fuzzy clustering method is employed to classify different road landscapes, optimizing the design system. Through simulation experiments, the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is validated, with results indicating an 8.34% higher accuracy compared to traditional methods. The study suggests that such road design not only meets basic traffic needs but also achieves greening and beautification effects while catering to users visual and psychological needs, showcasing the unique cultural, historical, and lifestyle characteristics of the city. Furthermore, this design fosters harmonious integration between roads and their ancillary structures and surrounding buildings, significantly improving the citys landscape and living environment.

Abstract:
Many women and women-run associations were involved in historical urban beautification in the United States, especially tree planting, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. While men had formal roles as city foresters, arborists, horticulturalists, and landscape architects, women from elite families sometimes labored for free to organize and advocate for urban tree planting. Tightly knit social circles of high-society women in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, yielded much greater influence in nascent tree planting and park creation movements than has generally been recognized. They often contributed their time, finances, input, and skill to landscape planting projects; however, they were not considered equal to the men who were compensated employees. These women planted, plotted, studied, and persevered, overcoming preconceived notions of womanhood, although their meaningful efforts were often viewed as merely an offshoot of their feminine domestic role. For women, limited by opportunities in male-dominated arenas, shaping their cities was a socially accepted means for empowerment. Ellen Waln Harrison (1846 to 1922) was a key figure in civic beautification in her hometown of Philadelphia and beyond. Ellen Harrison was married to Charles Custis Harrison, Provost of the University of Pennsylvania, and she personally oversaw campus landscaping efforts, and was referred to as his “right hand.” Her story is emblematic of a larger trend regarding women in botany, horticulture, and urban forestry around the turn of the 20th century.

Abstract:
Being places of population concentration and various types of activities - industry, construction, energy, automobile fleet, cities are sources of air, surface and underground water, and soil pollution. Nature in the city and in its immediate surroundings is subject to significant anthropogenic stress. Environmental problems of cities, mainly the largest of them, are associated with excessive concentration on relatively small territories of population, transport and industrial enterprises, with the formation of anthropogenic landscapes, the state of which is characterized by a violation of the ecological balance.
It is in the field of improvement that conditions are created for the population that ensure a high standard of living. Thus, conditions are created for a healthy, comfortable, convenient life both for an individual at the place of residence and for all residents of the city, district, quarter, and microdistrict.
When performing a set of measures, they are able to significantly improve the ecological condition and appearance of cities and towns, create more comfortable microclimatic, sanitary, hygienic and aesthetic conditions on the streets, in residential apartments, public places (parks, boulevards, squares, squares, etc.). The need for a systematic solution to the problem of beautification and greening of cities and towns is ripe.
The modern stage of the development of urban improvement and greening poses a number of new tasks that cannot be solved without extensive use of the achievements of scientific and technical progress, advanced practical experience.
The purpose of this work is to generalize the theoretical foundations of the organization of the urban improvement and greening system. The work has a theoretical and methodological nature. Based on the study of literary sources, the essence of the formation and definition of the concept of urban improvement, improvement and greening of city territories, types of urban improvement are considered. The conclusion gives general conclusions that were made as a result of research and analysis of the problem of beautification and greening of the city territory.
The methodological basis of the work is the concept of improvement of the city of L.A. Velikhova, the formula of improvement Z.Kh. Frenkel, the theory of V.I. Vernadsky, based on the principle of harmonious development of man and the biosphere, and the compositional theory of H. Hans, which examines human perception through the microcosm (microdistrict, street) and macrocosm (country, planet).
The novelty of this work consists in identifying and formulating the main features and problems of the organization of the system of beautification and greening of the urban territory at the modern stage of the development of society.
The work is based on a systemic approach, within which the following methods were used: historical, which examined the history of the centuries-old experience of green construction, systemic, comparative. The issues of assessing the current level of beautification of the centers of historical cities and its quality are relevant in connection with the practical and methodological problems of carrying out such work within the framework of the implementation of the national project "comfortable environment" as well as the target program for the beautification of historic cities. It is during the improvement of historical cities or historical zones of cities in practice that the most complex methodological problems arise, associated with the need to ensure the preservation of valuable historical landscapes, architectural monuments, historical gardens and parks. To make decisions on the improvement and greening of cities, including within the framework of national, regional and municipal projects and programs, it is important to analyze the state and experience of the improvement and greening of a number of cities. As objects of research, four historical cities near Moscow were selected, or rather, the territories of their public centers, and at the same time, the positive and negative aspects of projects implemented over the past 5-10 years were considered in terms of compliance with urban planning regulations for historical zones, environmental requirements and the comfort of the urban environment - Kolomna, Sergiev Posad, Dmitrov, Zvenigorod.

Abstract:
Abstract Beauty can be a source of self-making within a political community, and that self can display moral autonomy via publicly visible and invisible practices while still adhering to a community. At a time of transition during the early 2000s from militarized resistance to urban civil politics, radical democracy, and gender ideals, older militarized notions of the Kurdish self, body, and beauty were changing. In a context of heightened visibility within the movement, women active in the Kurdish movement responded by recrafting their femininities, using beautification practices as a modern, urban, and empowering political tool. But beautification of the new self also entailed often sticky negotiations over the moral boundaries between the self and the movement, producing anxieties over what and who should constitute the moral. As women's actions, public roles, and visibilities became important indicators of the Kurdish movement's political success, their beauty practices and beautiful visibilities came to be viewed through the urgent need for moral unity. Central to Kurdish women activists' experience of and response to the political and social transformations going on around them, the integration of beauty practices into their politics placed moral autonomy at the center of the construction of new models of Kurdish femininity.

Abstract:
On several occasions in the early twentieth century, advocates of urban planning proposed significant measures for altering the layout of Toronto streets. Planning historians often have proposed that an interest in beautification was superseded by a focus on efficiency by the 1920s, but Toronto's plans largely were lost amidst private development processes and business cycles. Confusion over planning priorities, the short-term perspectives of politicians, and a lack of urgency also impeded city and regional planning. Toronto experienced less planning initiatives than major United-States cities.

Abstract:
This urban ecocritical study reads the poetry of Edna St. Vincent Millay and William Carlos Williams in the context of the American street tree movement, a civic health and beautification program that advocated for the planting of shade trees along urban thoroughfares. It argues that both poets critique the ‘ideal’ street tree forwarded by the movement. In ‘City Trees,’ Millay presents a shade tree whose therapeutic effects are overwhelmed by the noise pollution in New York City, much like the speaker herself. In ‘Young Sycamore,’ Williams eschews the visual ideal of symmetrical, evenly-spaced shade trees in favor of a wily, asymmetrical organism that actively torques toward the light. By extension, these poets present city habitats as alternately more toxic and more wild than the street tree movement had imagined, a critique with ramifications for contemporary urban reforestation movements today.

This paper aims to raise the issue of "falsity" in Heritage Revitalization and how it impacts on values in Historic Urban Landscape. The object of the study is the process of revitalization carried out in Kali Besar in the Jakarta Old City Area based on Jakarta Governor's Instruction 2016, No. 101. To evaluate Kali Besar's revitalization planning, this study uses historical methods, especially those relating to aspects of urban space, social and revitalization policies. This study results the findings that the Revitalization of Kali Besar was not done through a good management plan and arranged with various changes as the cause. Beautification is still considered as the main foundation in the Kali Besar arrangement. Historic Urban Landscape must be the main references in the process of revitalizing the Kali Besar area and to produce a mature management plan.

Abstract:
In order to solve the problem of green urban garden landscape design, a green urban garden landscape design method based on GIS system is proposed. This method introduces component GIS and compares three AO-based GIS secondary development modes. Based on the developed solution, comprehensively considering the index evaluation of urban landscaping and its influencing factors, the functional structure of the GIS-based landscaping management information system is designed, and the system requirements are analyzed in detail. It solves the problem that the cost of traditional green urban garden landscape design is too high, and the experiment proves that improving the landscape environment of urban public space has practical value for the research of urban landscape system. Combined with practical application, it is found that the intervention of rainwater landscape can effectively improve the aesthetics and artistry of urban rainwater public facilities. At the same time, the development of GIS and its related technologies (such as database technology and network technology) has also promoted the construction and development of urban landscaping system, which has a great effect on the beautification of the environment, which verifies the validity of the experiment.

The article presents preliminary results of the molecular genetic investigation of poplar (Populus nigra L., Ps laurifolia Ledeb. etc) hybridization naturally and in the urban beautification within Russian Federation. All the investigated species and hybrids of the black poplar and balsam poplar demonstrate wide geographic variation at the molecular level naturally and when being cultivated. At the same time different species and hybrids being agglomerated in the same region can have some similar genome regions. This, most probably, is associated with the intensive cross-species hybridization. This scheme corresponds with the idea of the reticulate evolution of the black poplar and balsam poplar.

The purpose of the study is to identify and compare territorial zones, volumetric-spatial characteristics of buildings and the peculiarities of the formation of open public spaces in Zelenodolsk. The main results of the study are that a comprehensive urban planning analysis was carried out, on the basis of which the features of the formation of territorial zones in the city were revealed, the boundaries of spatial-environmental morphotypes, their environmental features were identified, and the specificity of the formation of a design code for different areas of the city was determined. The significance of the results obtained for architecture and urban planning lies in the fact that the concept of the form-based code developed in the study for Zelenodolsk can become the basis for updating (or updating) urban planning documents (Local standards for urban planning, General plan, urban planning regulations, City beautification rules). The method of identifying and forming spatial-environmental morphotypes in the city is also of great importance, as the basis for creating a form-based code for Russian small and medium-sized industrial cities.

Abstract:
Civic boosters advocate physical arts development as a path for urban revitalization. Current research examines these specialized bricks and mortar efforts through snapshot outcome evaluations, broad policy analyses, and critiques of predatory activity. Project development is overlooked as is whether such efforts mirror general urban development patterns and behavior. This case study explores a successful dual-nonprofit partnership between the Seattle Art Museum and the Trust for Public Land to build the Olympic Sculpture Park. This recent history explains institutional motivations and political strategies and identifies organizational assets employed to overcome intense market pressures and past failures. It adds richness to conventional development wisdom and its intense focus on public–private partnerships as the prevalent model for urban development. This alignment between a local arts institution and a national conservation organization may unveil an alternative model or shed light on a less visible structure for developing urban civic amenities. This study further reinforces the connection between contemporary urban improvement and early beautification agendas via municipal art, open space, and civic leadership.

Abstract:
Alleys in urban areas have recently been associated with crime and slums. Makassar as one of the biggest cities in Indonesia started to revitalize its alleys in 2014 as a campaign agreement implemented in Makassar Spatial Plan as well as an urban mutual interaction. This scheme is to change negative perspectives about alleys and to enhance urban community awareness. The research is a qualitative method with a phenomenological paradigm referring to urban design toolkits. Data collecting uses observation surveys and walk-through analyses. The selected alleys that have been discussed are based on thematic alleys from the government decisions. The findings show that successful government programs should empower the inheritance of cultural values. Genius loci adapted from the local nomenclature programs are more recognizable in public to build sense of belonging and promote urban resilience. The revitalization of alleys provide communal space, urban farming harvest, and leads to green economy improvements, settlement arrangements, and mutual local aids. Constructing urban resilience through government programs that should not depend on a Mayor’s tenure is another finding in this research. Adaptive governance is essential in flexible and collaborative management rather than application programs in terms of political interests, beautification, and ceremonial activities.

Abstract:
Urban forests are essential green infrastructure for sustainable cities. However, existing studies are mainly focused on the general public’s perception and needs of urban forestry, and little is known about non-traditional educators like extension agents. To address this gap, the main objective of this study is to explore extension agents’ perceptions, practices, and future training needs. Specifically, a statewide online survey consisting of 33 questions was designed and disseminated to extension agents in Tennessee via email with 64 responses. We found that the majority of respondents valued urban forestry, with 68.9% of them believing that urban forests are very important, especially for providing shade, cooling, energy saving, aesthetic values/beautification, increasing property values, and wildlife habitat and biodiversity. Their main clientele includes homeowners, farmers, and landowners, and 63.3% of extension agents reported that they have received urban forestry-related requests. However, less than half of them are comfortable addressing these requests, and over 50% of them reported that they are slightly or not knowledgeable about urban forestry. Additionally, the interest in urban forestry is high, with 98.3% of respondents having some level of interest in urban forestry. This demonstrates great potential for urban forestry education, extension, and training in the region.

Abstract:
The mosaic is one of the most durable monumental artworks, hence the belief in its permanence. It is resilient to shocks, abrasion, moisture, and frost, protecting, in turn, the walls it covers. These qualities made the mosaic one of interest to the communist authorities, who later considered it suitable for beautifying the exterior walls of various buildings. The article addresses the issue of the symbolic and identity aspect of art in the urban space. The authors discuss the exterior mural mosaics from Suceava, during the communist period, as an expression of the compromise between the ideological commands of the period and the neo-traditionalist and neo-folklorizing direction professed by the artists.

Abstract:
Trace the timeline of a pandemic such as Ebola, SARS, and SARS-CoV-2. All these extremely infectious viruses led to a worldwide pandemic starting in 2002. All these three viruses are transmitted to humans by animals from the jungle. The novel human coronavirus COVID-19 is now the fifth documented pandemic since the 1918 influenza pandemic. Questions about pandemics are on the rise these days, and it is widely discussed in the media. Recently, awareness about urban green spaces is rising in this era, and numerous researchers claim that appropriate landscape planning and design with the conception of sustainability able to produce a beneficial and responsive environment for healthy urban improvement in relation to pandemic crises. Therefore, this paper aims to investigate the effectiveness of urban green spaces for sustainable environmental health. The result shows that the role of urban green spaces improves immune system function, increases social capital and cohesion, reduces mortality, and increases life expectancy, reduces potential negative health impacts, and makes urban beautification healthier. In addition, the finding shows the benefits of urban green spaces in pandemics, for example improving mental health and stress reduction, improving physical health, decreasing the risk of disease transmission, and improving social cohesion.

Abstract:
Most urban renewal programmes in Africa are conceived as mere urban beautification projects. From Lagos to Dakar, move one or two kilometers away from the city centers and one is faced with filth and squalor that are summed up in two words –urban slums, in which a great majority of city populations reside. In Nigeria, population living in slums as percentage of urban population is put at 50.2 % in 2014, up from 41.0% in 2007. This highlights the rapid growth of urban slums in Africa with rapid urbanization largely fueled by rural-urban migration. Incidentally, lessons from COVID-19 indicate that if the trend in the growth of unplanned slum settlements are not checked, they will become the hotspots for pandemic transmission in Africa, as the slum populations are part and parcel of the entire urban population who indeed are key drivers of city activities in terms of labour supply, as well as their engagements in small scale informal business activities in the cities. In the light of existing knowledge on the potential threat of dense slum settlements to the spread of pandemic, this paper reviews the appropriateness of traditional approach to urban renewal programmes in Africa and makes recommendations for paradigm shift as historical evidences reveal that COVID-19 is neither the first nor the last pandemic.

Abstract:
This study aims to analyze urban landscapes by assessing the development of built space, one of the most dynamic elements within them. The spatial development of built environments is a phenomenon present in most urban areas. The study looks at the relationship between patterns of built space and urban green spaces. Implications on the connectivity of urban space, the planning of urban functions in their proximity, and the spatial distribution of recreational potential based on the perceived recreational value of the landscape by the local community are investigated. The theme of the paper is a topical issue in the study of urban landscapes, while at the same time it is an ongoing phenomenon - the growth of built space - for which optimal planning solutions are being sought. The analysis and results presented seek to increase understanding and awareness in addressing the dynamics of built space in the urban environment. The data used are collected both from official sources and from the ground. Urban regeneration aims to revitalize distressed urban spaces: The development and beautification of public spaces - squares, squares, parks, street furniture. The links between this category of urban space and the rest of the urban infrastructure are analyzed, as well as the role that urban planning plays in the development of built space in the vicinity of forest areas. The study area comprises territories in the municipality of Bistrita. The socio-economic context of the area has been the basis for understanding the patterns of evolution identified in the urban landscape, as well as being a driver in ongoing urban transformations and processes.

Abstract:
Urbanization and climate change have impacted the ecosystems of the US cities. Impervious surfaces in the urbanized areas are a critical issue for both challenges and green infrastructure can be an alternative solution to achieve urban sustainability. Green infrastructure protects urban ecosystems by reducing imperviousness as treating stormwater runoff and providing other multifaceted benefits. However, even with the great potential, its adoption is still discouraged due to limited understanding and guidance especially for the cities with a growth-driven policy. This paper proposes that green infrastructure, particularly green streets in relation to impervious surfaces, can deliver urban sustainability by providing a better understanding to promote the acceptance and successful adoption of green streets through literature review and case studies in the US. Green streets are primarily implemented within the right-of-way and facilitate stormwater treatment along with diverse street designs providing multiple benefits such as flood management, wildlife habitat and natural pathway creation, neighborhood beautification, cost-effective solution, and more. The defined green street typology in this paper is an important tool for communicating among planners and the public by providing form-based standardized classification. Green streets can be utilized as a sustainable development approach, fulfilling a variety of environmental, social, and economic objectives.
