Abstract:
Abstract Despite growing interest in the application of evolutionary concepts to research questions in human geography, the literature is largely characterised by metaphors or analogies that are disconnected from a broader evolutionary theoretical framework. This paper takes initial steps toward developing such a framework for the subfield of urban geography by defining critical elements and relationships from Darwinian and multilevel selection theories. It then synthesises those components in an application to the issues of urban blight and disorder, to demonstrate how an evolutionary understanding of urban spatial phenomena - an “evolutionary urban geography” - can produce new insights for managing complex processes.

Abstract:
Geologists are considering in earnest whether to mark the emergence of a new geological epoch – characterized by human impacts on the geology of the planet – as the dawn of the Anthropocene. In this third of three urban geography progress reports, I identify interrelated elements of what I call ‘Anthropocene thinking’ – non-linearity, reworked temporalities, and ontologies of systemicity – that invite the perceived need for ‘anticipatory governance’ and pervade contemporary urban theory and governance. This is exemplified, I argue, by two current trends in urban governance: the promotion of smart and resilient cities.

Abstract:
Historical geography and urban historical geography barely exist as sub-disciplinary idioms in geography department curricula across Canada. Yes, historical geography research flourishes, but the teaching of historical and urban historical geography has all but vanished, except in a tiny number of larger departments. This article asks why—especially given historical geography’s sub-disciplinary commitment to social and environmental justice. But it also wonders whether this circumstance is lamentable, or simply more of the same: change over time, which historical and urban historical geographers document ceaselessly.

Abstract:
Abstract With the gradual maturation of artificial intelligence technology and the widespread application of machine learning technology in recent years, the research direction of geographic science has shifted dramatically. It has become an important problem in geography to efficiently and accurately mine the inherent laws for these massive, diverse and multidimensional data. Simultaneously, through an in-depth study of geographic information systems, a more reasonable layout and planning in urban and rural construction, traffic management, industrial transfer, and other aspects of human geography can be made. This paper focuses on the application of various machine learning methods in various geographical environments, such as the atmosphere, geology, hydrology, and natural disasters in natural geography. Humanities like urban and rural planning, agricultural production, and tourism geography like GIS, RS, GIS, Beidou are key study object as well.

Abstract:
URBAN SOCIO-ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM AND POSSIBILITIES OF A CLASSROOM APPROACH ABSTRACT What reflections and practices are possible for the geography teacher in the development of urban socio-environmental problems in the classroom? The purpose of this article was to present some practical methodological activities applied to high school students and how they made it possible to teach themes related to urban socio-environmental issues. Constituting a relevant theme in geographic science for teachers and students, it is believed that the theoretical reflection will be competed by teachers, accompanied by the planning and execution of methodological strategies that allow students to geographically read the lived world. In this work, notes are made on the theoretical possibilities and alternative methodological approaches to pedagogical practice, based on the author's teaching experience with high school students. Without the aim of exhausting the broad interdisciplinary debate on the urban environmental issue and existing methodologies, the importance of the Geography teacher, as an agent attentive to the conditions of life in the place, in the neighborhood or city where the school is located, is highlighted. the complex reality that the urban encompasses. The socio-environmental issue should be included from the categories and methods available in Geography itself, either as a way of reaffirming the importance of the discipline in this debate, as well as building a significant learning process with students. Abstract:
The proper operationalization of urban and rural is extremely important to our understanding of the impacts of specific ecological context on human behavior. However, even with the ever-improving definitional advancements, our understanding of these community-level concepts, in regards to a comprehensive geographic space, is still somewhat unsatisfying. This article aims to contribute to this issue through the introduction of a ‘place' based geography using current Census geographies in the creation of a unified geographic landscape of the contiguous United States. The new place-level geography is superior to previous operational approaches to identifying urban and rural communities in that it allows for the examination of both without the additional variation inherent in larger geographies and providing a more comprehensive coverage than smaller geographies. Furthermore, this approach allows for the development of a unique, but phenomenologically meaningful, sub-county geography that substantively holds meaning in conceptualizing rural and urban ecological context.
