Allantoin and a11antoate are the major transport forms of nitrogen in many legumes such as soybean, cowpea and french bean. They are formed in the nodules of these plants by de novo pathways of purine synthesis and oxidation. The exact quantity of ureide present is dependent on environmental and developmental factors. Chiral amines are widespread in naturally occurring and synthetic bioactive molecules. However, it remains challenging to synthesise these molecules in an enantiopure form.
