Abstract:
The effects of population increase and food production on the environment have prompted various international organizations to focus on the future potential for more environmentally friendly and alternative protein products. One of those alternatives might be edible insects. Entomophagy, the practice of eating insects by humans, is common in some places but has traditionally been shunned in others, such as European countries. The last decade has seen a growing interest from the public and private sectors to the research in the sphere of edible insects, as well as significant steps forward from

In the last 10 years, there have been 3 major research and development projects in Australia on the efficiency of feed utilisation by beef cattle. The primary objective of these projects has been to examine individual animal variation in feed efficiency and its exploitation for genetic improvement in beef cattle. The results of these projects indicate that genetic variation in feed efficiency exists in Australian beef herds, that feed efficiency is moderately heritable and that the potential exists to reduce the cost of beef production through selection for efficient cattle. These results have

Background. Developmental Evaluation (DE) practitioners turn to DE theory to make design and implementation decisions. However, DE practitioners can experience difficulty in fully understanding how to implement DE using theory because it is method agnostic (Patton, 2016). Instead, DE is a principle-based approach. Purpose. This article presents an empirical examination of how DE theory was (or was not) applied during three DE pilots. Our analysis aims to better understand how DE theory is used in practice to expand the evidence base and strengthen future DE implementation. Setting.

The global increase in demand for meat and the limited land area available prompt the search for alternative protein sources. Also the sustainability of meat production has been questioned. Edible insects as an alternative protein source for human food and animal feed are interesting in terms of low greenhouse gas emissions, high feed conversion efficiency, low land use, and their ability to transform low value organic side streams into high value protein products. More than 2000 insect species are eaten mainly in tropical regions. The role of edible insects in the livelihoods and nutrition of

Abstract Swine feed additives is general terminology used for a wide range of non-nutritive products to help improve growth, health, and carcass characteristics. There are numerous classifications of feed additives that are currently used world-wide. To properly access the value of a feed additive to achieve desired goals, understanding the 1) mode(s) of action, 2) efficacy with different diet formulation strategies, 3) influence of herd health status, and 4) consistency of predicted response are vital. Web feeds are a popular way to access updates for contentin the World Wide Web. Unfortunately, the technology be-hind web feeds is based on polling. Thus, clients ask the feedserver regularly for updates. There are two concurrent prob-lems with this approach. First, many times a client asks forupdates, there is no new item and second, if the client’s up-date interval is too large it might be notified too late or evenmiss items. In this work we present adaptive feed polling algorithms. Thealgorithms learn from the previous behaviors of feeds andpredict their future behaviors. To evaluate these a
