Abstract:

Abstract:
Unatoč razvijenim modernim sustavima mjerenja poslovnog rezultata, hotelska industrija u Hrvatskoj još uvijek ostaje orijentirana tradicionalnim oblicima i vrlo sporo se prilagođava suvremenim sustavima.

Abstract:
Currently, Slovenia does not have the bases for the introduction of a uniform system of accounts for monitoring business performance in the hotel industry, called the USALI standard ("Uniform System of Accounts for The Lodging Industry"), which allows comparison of an individual hotel to similar hotels in a closer and wider area, has been the principal finding of the research ordered by the Slovenian Tourist Board and conducted by the Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana. The aim of the research was to examine the possibilities of the direct use of the USALI standard in Slovenia as well as about the necessary changes of the existing situation in the area of accounting records and other records in the hotel industry, so that the performance of the Slovene companies could be compared to the average of the hotel industry in the world, Europe and individual countries.

Abstract:
According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the tourism industry is one of the most dynamically developing sectors of the economy. It was expected that by 2020, the proportion of people employed in this area and the contribution of tourism to world GDP would amount to about 10%. The hotel industry in this sector is the most profitable and progressive. At that, the Russian hotel market volume lags significantly behind the world indicators and does not exceed one percent in the global hotel industry. The active development of the tourism industry, and as a result, the hospitality industry, has created conditions for the intense development of the hotel business in Russia. A significant impetus to this in recent years have been the 2016 Winter Olympic Games and the 2018 FIFA World Cup. However, even in the preparatory stages for these large-scale international events, many experts expressed concerns about the idleness of most of the built facilities, the downfall of many accommodations and catering enterprises, and the decline of infrastructure after completion of these sporting events. These circumstances determine the objective need to find and implement mechanisms for effective management of hotel enterprises based on the study of international experience and Russian best practices in the hotel business.

Abstract:
Purpose: This study presents an inquiry on the historical evolution of the uniforming movement in cost accounting and its current position in the lodging sector. Its paramount objective is ‘to learn from the past' and, at the same time, to pose a question of future: where are aiming the current techniques of cost management in the lodging industry to? A specific purpose of this inquiry was fixed, on the base of a necessary retrospective look, in outlining and analyzing the actual accounting informative needs of today’s hotel complexes, considering the two main directions that hotel accounting has taken throughout its (long) history in search of uniformity. A uniform purpose that, from 1926 on, the successive versions of the USAH - Uniform System of Accounts for Hotels has being pursuing (an acronym modified in 1996 as USALI - Uniform System of Accounts for Lodging Industries).Design/methodology: This work composes of two parts differentiated and clearly interconnected:In a first study it examines the movement uniform system in its most dynamic period, as they were the years between the two WW (1920 - 1940), its aims and most outstanding contributions, its economic and politician circumstances, social influences, etc.In a second study the interest is focused in the current period and specifically in the Spanish lodging industry, where, by means of the method of the survey and personal interviewing, it aims to evaluate and interpret the degree of need perceived by the managerial agents of the sector about an accounting uniform movement in Spain.Findings: The inquiry offers two types of contributions and results: on the one hand, a reconfiguration of the role exerted by the ‘uniforming’ movement in the history of management accounting; on the other hand, it makes evident, by means of a field inquiry, which are the main informative needs of the lodging sector in Spain, beyond a mere sectorial adaptation of the current general plan of accounting.Originality/value: The authors have focused their inquiry on the big evolutionary lines that have given fruit in the different versions of the USALI, considering its utility as the starting point for a hypothetical system of accounting management adjusted to the needs and idiosyncrasy of the Hispanic sector. One of the main conclusions that can be extracted is that, either by looking at the review of the past or by summarizing the analysis of the present needs, the evidence shows that the European hotel industry faces a pending task that the North American tradition has been successful to channel in a way comparatively more advanced: the fact of having a complete and uniform instrument of accounting information.

Abstract:
The goal of this paper is to present the achieved development level of managerial accounting in the Croatian hotel industry. The research was conducted on sample of 42% of all Croatian hotels. This sample also presents regional structure, organisation status, size, ownership structure and organisation form. The fact that the predominant methods are traditional cost allocation-methods shows us that accounting is still oriented to the external users. In most cases, the results from the previous periods are used as the comparative value in the control of actual costs. The research has shown that financial statements are prepared on monthly basis for top management. It is absolutely necessary to put additional effort into improving the cost allocation methods and techniques, through implementing modem systems and methods of management accounting. Only in such circumstances the accounting information could be presented to lower levels of management on weekly or daily basis. Managerial accounting is the framework for development of responsibility accounting, which is based on specifics of hospitality industry and accounting standards of the “Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry” (USALI). Reporting systems should be adjusted to the information required by each level of management (especially in area of current and particular reports). The conducted research indicates the necessity for intense implementing of the USALI on the level of responsibility centres. This would ensure the transparency of the managing information and possibility of their comparison. The individual goals should be in accordance with global goal, and the results comparable with similar hotel enterprises in the environment. This would eventually improve the overall competition of a particular hotel enterprise on the global tourist market.

Abstract:
In any analysis of Bahrain’s political structure, it is fundamental to understand the relationship between the Usili, Akhbaris, and authority. This analysis includes an assessment of the implications of the differences between the Usili and Akhbaris, thus shedding light on the dynamic interaction between these players in local and external structures and clarifying the effect of ideology and identity on the ties of authority with Shi’a. Usuli and Akhbaris principles have incontrovertible implications for the political perceptions of Shi’a groups and elites with regard to their dealings with the government in Bahrain. These religious perceptions form part of the political equation involved in ensuring the convergence of authority with the Shi’a community. This paper considers how differences between the Usuli and Akhbaris have shaped the relation between authority and Shi’a in Bahrain.

Abstract:
The objective of this thesis is to know which are the key variables of the hotel business, the main key performance indicators and the specific accounting aspects are, and finally, together with qualitative indicators, to be able to propose a balanced score card that gives answer to the necessities of information that arise from the Company's management for the appropriate decision taking process. In a more concrete way, in the empiric work it is approached:
· To know the importance that the management of the hotel chains grant to the management accounting.
· To verify the level of implementation of the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI)
· To check the bases of realization of the annual budgets and the existence or not of medium-term planning.
· To check the level of implementation of the balanced score card and the level of implementation of non financial indicators.
· To verify the grade of installation of information technologies to support the management decision process.
CONCLUSSIONS
· 100% of those hotels interviewed have manifested that they developed some type of management accounting, being the formation of its responsible graduates in economic or business administration. More than half of the hotel chains received external advice in management accounting, corresponding most from them to auditors and external consultants.
· In relation with the level of implementation of USALI, it highlights the total unanimity of the obtained answers of the international hotel chains, following them, in to majority way, the big Spanish hotel chains.
· Regarding the autonomy of management of the hotels, the international chains grant to bigger autonomy to them.
· Outlined to series of relating questions to the approach of allocation of certain habitual transactions in the hotel sector, we could check a remarkable disparity, which shows the problem of the heterogeneity in the management information, and the potential difficulty in considering the information like standardize when carrying out sectorial studies. Therefore, these last answers regarding the grade of installation of USALI, allow us to conclude the existence of a bigger implementation of USALI in the foreign chains that in the domestic ones, from the moment that to bigger disintegration takes place in departments, with lives coincidence between the same ones and the organizational structure, at the same it cheats that they have to bigger autonomy in the management.
· While 100% of the international chains manifest to make a strategic plan, this percentage diminishes for the big Spanish chains.
· Regarding the level of approval of the plans, it stands out the theoretically bigger grade of decentralization of the Spanish chains that only in few cases they subject to approval of the central services the strategic plan of the hotel, versus 100% of the international chains.
· In relation with the periodicity of budgeting of certain variables, the big Spanish chains budget with more often the main key indicators.
· More than half of the hotel chains have a balanced score card. Approximately 60% of the establishments that have strategic plan have a balanced score card too.
· We check that the profit and loss accounts was the only common information in all the answers regarding the contents of the balanced score card, followed, in order of frequency, of the objectives and quantitative indicators.
· Regarding the introduction of information technologies, we check that the reservation systems, billing system to guesses and, in smaller measure, the system of front office, are practically widespread in all the hotel chains.
· Verificar el grado de implantación del Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI)

Abstract:

Full text
Abstract:
This research investigated someone of the main problems connected to the application of Tissue Engineering in the prosthetic field, in particular about the characterization of the scaffolding materials and biomimetic strategies adopted in order to promote the implant integration. The spectroscopic and thermal analysis techniques were usefully applied to characterize the chemico-physical properties of the materials such as – crystallinity; – relative composition in case of composite materials; – Structure and conformation of polymeric and peptidic chains; – mechanism and degradation rate; – Intramolecular and intermolecular interactions (hydrogen bonds, aliphatic interactions). This kind of information are of great importance in the comprehension of the interactions that scaffold undergoes when it is in contact with biological tissues; this information are fundamental to predict biodegradation mechanisms and to understand how chemico-physical properties change during the degradation process. In order to fully characterize biomaterials, this findings must be integrated by information relative to mechanical aspects and in vitro and in vivo behavior thanks to collaborations with biomedical engineers and biologists. This study was focussed on three different systems that correspond to three different strategies adopted in Tissue Engineering: biomimetic replica of fibrous 3-D structure of extracellular matrix (PCL-PLLA), incorporation of an apatitic phase similar to bone inorganic phase to promote biomineralization (PCL-HA), surface modification with synthetic oligopeptides that elicit the interaction with osteoblasts. The characterization of the PCL-PLLA composite underlined that the degradation started along PLLA fibres, which are more hydrophylic, and they serve as a guide for tissue regeneration. Moreover it was found that some cellular lines are more active in the colonization of the scaffold. In the PCL-HA composite, the weight ratio between the polymeric and the inorganic phase plays an essential role both in the degradation process and in the biomineralization of the material. The study of self-assembling peptides allowed to clarify the influence of primary structure on intermolecular and intermolecular interactions, that lead to the formation of the secondary structure and it was possible to find a new class of oligopeptides useful to functionalize materials surface. Among the analytical techniques used in this study, Raman vibrational spectroscopy played a major role, being non-destructive and non-invasive, two properties that make it suitable to degradation studies and to morphological characterization. Also micro-IR spectroscopy was useful in the comprehension of peptide structure on oxidized titanium: up to date this study was one of the first to employ this relatively new technique in the biomedical field.

Abstract:
The lodging industry is a crucial contributor to global tourism revenues in many countries. A significant part of hotel revenues comes from micro and small hotel companies not belonging to global brands. The aim of this chapter is to propose new tools – based on USALI and on the most relevant operating ratios – to support the management of micro and small hotels that are not integrated into hotel chains. The methodology starts with literature review, which allowed to point out some USALI schedules that are not being used, a lot of items of USALI schedules without relevance and a set of operating ratios and indicators highlighted by researchers and professionals. The first result consists in the proposal of seven simplified hospitality management accounting schedules (revenue and cost items). The second result is an operating scorecard that includes the ratios and indicators useful for micro and small independent hotels.

Abstract:
The paper presents a performance measurement system that was developed with the aim to provide a useful benchmarking tool for Slovene and Croatian hotels. Financial results of Slovene and Croatian hotels show that there is room for improvements. That is why the necessity to develop a performance measurement system emerged. The paper presents the development process of this performance measurement system and the theoretical background of selected measures that are included in the system. This system includes both financial and non-financial indicators of performance. Financial indicators are based on USALI standards for the lodging industry, while non-financial indicators were developed based on a literature review. Non-financial indicators include information about guests, employees, and corporate social responsibility. The presented performance measurement system enables hotels to analyse their financial performance on a daily level, while non-financial indicators can be evaluated on a monthly and annual basis.

Dasheng Leow of the National Tsing Hua University used (Eur. J. Org. Chem. 2014, 7347) photolysis to activate the air oxidation of hydrazine to generate diimide, that then reduced 1 selectively to 2. Kevin M. Peese of Bristol-Myers Squibb effected (Org. Lett. 2014, 16, 4444) ring-closing metathesis of 3 followed by in situ reduction to form 4. Jitendra K. Bera of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur effected (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2014, 136, 13987) gentle oxidative cleavage of cyclooctene 5 to the dialdehyde 6. Arumugam Sudalai of the National Chemical Laboratory observed (Org. Lett. 2014, 16, 5674) high regioselectivity in the oxidation of the alkene 7 to the ketone 8. Hao Xu of Georgia State University also observed (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2014, 136, 13186) high regioselectivity in the oxidation of the alkene 9 with 10, leading to the urethane 11. Justin Du Bois of Stanford University developed (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2014, 136, 13506) mild conditions for the net double amination of the alkene 12 with 13, leading to 14. Jiaxi Xu and Pingfan Li of the Beijing University of Chemical Technology devised (Org. Lett. 2014, 16, 6036) a protocol for the allylic thiomethylation of an alkene with 16, converting 15 to 17. Matthias Beller of the Leibniz-Institüt für Katalyse combined (Chem. Eur. J. 2014, 20, 15692) hydroformylation, aldol condensation, and reduction to convert the alkene 18 to the ketone 19. Phil S. Baran of Scripps/La Jolla added (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2014, 53, 14382) the diazo dienone 21 to the alkene 20 to give, after exposure to HCl, the arylated product 22. Markus R. Heinrich of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg employed (Chem. Eur. J. 2014, 20, 15344) Selectfluor as both an oxidizing and a fluorinating agent in the related addition of 24 to 23 to give 25. Debabrata Maiti at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay activated (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2014, 136, 13602) the ortho position of 27, then added that intermediate to 26 to give 28.

Full text
Abstract:
The treatment of Convective Heat Transfer Coefficients (CHTCs) in an enclosure has a significant impact on the thermal design of electronic appliance, especially the CHTCs in an enclosure with internal isolated blocks. The CHTCs of the isolated blocks for pure natural convection are usually used, while it may not be applicable to any practice. Combined convective heat transfer, even forced convective heat transfer, is sometime more applicable in reality. In our present work, first of all, validation of the turbulence model for CFD simulation of natural convective flows in a square enclosure is performed. The values of CHTCs for vertical walls obtained by using a low Reynolds k-ε model agree well with the existed correlations. The simulation also indicates that the distance from the first grid to the wall has a significant impact on the CHTCs. Using this low Reynolds k-ε model, computer simulations of natural and forced convective heat transfer within a square enclosure containing ten isolated blocks are performed. For both the natural and forced convection, the dimensionless Nusselt numbers are derived by the obtained results. For the case of mixed convection, the CHTCs are established by blending those for natural and forced convection using the Churchill-Usagi approach, which is a general expression combines the asymptotic solutions of independent CHTCs into the mixed convection by using a Churchill-Usagi blending coefficient.
