Abstract:
In the context of Malaysian companies’ survival, the potential role of intended use of proceeds as an influential factor remains unfamiliar. This study examines the link between the intended use of IPO proceeds and the survival of 423 Malaysian listed companies over the period of 2000–2014. This study distinguishes the use of IPO proceeds into three segregations: growth opportunities, debt repayment, and working capital. Employing the Accelerated Failure Time (AFT) survival model, the overall evidence shows a statistically significant effect of the intended use of IPO proceeds for growth oppor

It is well known that with money laundering activities, offender can hide the origin of money or property proceeds of crime, and thus they can enjoy and use the proceeds of the crime freely. Money laundering actors always try to avoid tracking their crime proceeds by various means, including taking advantage of the weaknesses of existing laws and regulations. Efforts to eradicate the crime of money laundering still have obstacles that cause pros and cons within the law enforcement environment itself. The flow of illicit capital, into the financial circles of various states, is a serious threat to global security. To this end, an important part of the strategy to combat criminal proceeds is the coordination of work between states. Expanding investigative capacity across national borders is seen as an important factor in the success of the fight against crime. The exchange of information, between law enforcement agencies in different states, is one of the most effective policies for financial investigations aimed at tracking the proceeds of crime. Background: In modern chemistry, the asymmetric synthesis for the preparation of high purity chiral compounds to be used as pharmaceuticals or additives in foods have been of capital importance. Chiral auxiliary reagents are used to control the stereochemistry of the reaction in the generation of new chiral compounds, in this context, Ephedra compounds (ephedrines and pseudoephedrines) and some of their derivatives have been broadly used as chiral ligands in catalysis or chiral inductors in asymmetric synthesis. Objective: This review focuses on recent progress in the use of ephedra compounds

The results of a study of Diels–Alder reactions of the bicyclic dienes 6–8 with a variety of dienophiles are reported. Although 6 and 7 undergo cycloaddition reactions smoothly and efficiently, thermal Diels–Alder reactions of 8 are generally sluggish or, under the conditions investigated, do not proceed at all. Additions of tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) to 6–8 are highly face-selective, with preferential attack of the dienophile on the side of the dienes opposite to the angular methoxycarbonyl group. Reaction of 7 with maleic anhydride (MAN) is completely face-selective and proceeds preferentiall

Cryptocurrencies have vast potential, but they also present significant risks related to money laundering and terrorist financing due to their technical characteristics. Crypto-assets are essentially applications of blockchain technology, which entails a public, encrypted, and secure ledger distributed across a network of validated computers. Each computer operates with common software that fosters consensus on new entries and prevents unauthorized alterations to the agreed-upon register. Rather, we are, often involuntarily, subjected to the effects of others’ technology use. The article characterizes this condition as affected bystanding, a condition that comes with quotidian, often banal, experiences of passivity and marginality. The affected bystander is neither entirely included nor excluded by a technological system and the practices of its operation. For this reason, affected bystanding is not adequately accounted for by established categ

In this paper, we study a sample of 179 corporate asset sales in Taiwan between 1993 and 2003. We find that corporate asset sales in Taiwan enhance parent firm value with cumulative abnormal returns of 1.7715% for the pre-announcement five-day period and 0.6086% for the two-day announcement window. This finding is consistent with the evidence discovered in both UK and US. We also examine whether asset-sale gains are positively related to managerial performance, private lender monitoring, the use of proceeds, the type of asset sales, the profitability of asset sales, and the relative size of as
