Abstract:
This thesis contributes to identifying the importance of studying the specific nature of soils pertaining to soil impacts subjected to irrigation with coal seam gas water. Focusing on the sodium impact, changes in soil behaviour as well as the sodium adsorption potential of three Queensland soils were observed and analysed. In doing so, it was found that beneficial reuse of CSG water can be used on agricultural land provided irrigation is carefully managed.

When the first irrigation in wheat is applied early, it is usually done to bank or save water for later in the season. On the other hand, when the first irrigation is applied late, it is done to force deep rooting. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of an early irrigation and an early stress period on yield and water use of two durum wheat cultivars when subjected to water stress during the grain fill period. Land contaminated with heavy metals such as Cd and Zn can be remediated using a number of different approaches. Many of these strategies are very expensive (e. g. removal and disposal of the soil, covering the soil with uncontaminated soil, extraction with acids or chelates) whilst others provide only short term solutions (e. g. reduction of metal bioavailability by liming or adding organic matter).
