Abstract:
The monograph introduces the reader to the basics of using multidimensional statistical methods — cluster analysis and MANOVA analysis — in marketing and economic research. Data is an indispensable product of any activity and the basis for making objective management decisions. Big data has had a significant impact on marketing and the development of its tools. The collection, accumulation and processing of information about customers and the market is the basis of information support for marketing activities. Multidimensional statistics methods, cluster analysis and MANOVA analysis in particular, open up new opportunities for marketers due to the great applied potential of their use. The areas of marketing application of cluster analysis and the MANOVA method are described in detail, a step-by-step plan for the implementation of statistical procedures and recommendations for the researcher on data preparation and evaluation of statistical analysis results are given. Multidimensional statistics methods allow marketers to identify complex behavioral patterns, predict consumer behavior, find new approaches to customer segmentation, and thus develop new marketing strategies and tactics in the market. It is intended for practicing marketers and researchers, economists and statisticians, university students and teachers, as well as all those who are interested in expanding their capabilities in big data processing to open new strategic horizons.

Full text
Abstract:
The monograph analyzes the possibility of managing the process of socio-advertising influence on socio-demographic groups. The developed methodological bases with the use of the multivariate paradigmatic status of sociological knowledge allowed us to form: principles of designing social advertising interaction, factors of efficiency (quality) of social advertising, a system of sociological quality assurance of social advertising.
Insufficiently studied problems of efficiency and quality of social advertising are investigated. The coefficients of the importance of its efficiency factors (quality) are established. Stable interrelations of social advertising influence at the level of revealed correlation coefficients of behavioral reactions of various categories of target audience with their characteristics are proved. The results obtained are summarized in the developed model of behavior of the target audience on the basis of social advertising interaction, and the content modules of the mechanism of controllability of the specified process are proposed.

Abstract:
Cladistic analysis is employed on behavioral and organizational patterns among present-day great apes that, because of their genetic closeness to humans, can be used as a surrogate for making inferences about the behavior and organizational propensities of the last common ancestor to great apes, hominins, and humans. A series of preadaptations among great apes for language, emotionality, mother–infant bonding, life history characteristics, propensities for play, and nonharem/promiscuous mating represents one source of information on the nature of the last common ancestor. Moreover, a set of behavioral propensities among all great apes adds to the body of information that can be used to make inferences about the nature of the last common ancestors, hominins, and humans. Thus, it is now possible to make inferences about the biological nature of human behavior and organizational tendencies that are less speculative than earlier analyses of human nature.

Abstract:
In Chapter 4, “Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Evidence-Based Practice,” research on the use of CBT with older adults is summarized and evaluated. Fifteen meta-analyses and systematic reviews published between 2000 and 2015 are presented. The most developed area of research on CBT effectiveness with older clients is on depression and anxiety outcomes. A smaller, but still substantial, literature focuses on outcomes of CBT for insomnia. While research on the effectiveness of CBT with older adults is not as encompassing as that for younger populations, it is, nonetheless, substantive and, thus far, more advanced than that of most other psychotherapeutic interventions used with older adults. Research suggests that CBT with older clients is as effective as other psychotherapeutic interventions, with superior results in decreasing the negative outcomes of anxiety. In administration, CBT is a flexible approach that has utility across a variety of settings and contexts.

Abstract:
Humans use two different means to exchange information: language and nonverbal communication. Often nonverbal signals emphasize and specify what is being said with words. Yet sometimes they collide, and the words are contradicted by what seeps through facial expression, gesture, and posture. This chapter discusses two theoretical frameworks for studying these nonverbal behaviors. The first approach (the emotional model) aims at unveiling the emotional state from facial expression and gesture. The second approach (the behavioral ecology model) analyzes the social meaning of nonverbal behavior, regardless of the emotional state of the sender of nonverbal signals. The two models are not incompatible and can be integrated to study nonverbal behavior. Yet, the behavioral ecology model explains some findings that are not accounted for by the emotional model. The final part of the chapter deals with neuropsychiatric conditions, such as Williams syndrome and prosopagnosia, that alter the encoding and decoding of nonverbal signals. The impact of these conditions on real-life social behavior can be dramatic, which shows the adaptive relevance of nonverbal communication.

Full text
Abstract:
Interrupted Time Series Analysis develops a comprehensive set of models and methods for drawing causal inferences from time series. Example analyses of social, behavioural, and biomedical time series illustrate a general strategy for building AutoRegressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) impact models. The classic Box-Jenkins-Tiao model-building strategy is supplemented with recent auxiliary tests for transformation, differencing and model selection. New developments, including Bayesian hypothesis testing and synthetic control group designs are described and their prospects for widespread adoption are discussed. Example analyses make optimal use of graphical illustrations. Mathematical methods used in the example analyses are explicated assuming only exposure to an introductory statistics course. Design and Analysis of Time Series Experiments (DATSE) and other appropriate authorities are cited for formal proofs. Forty completed example analyses are used to demonstrate the implications of model properties. The example analyses are suitable for use as problem sets for classrooms, workshops, and short-courses.

Abstract:
In the process of data analysis, the investigator is often facing highly-volatile and random-appearing observed data. A vast body of literature shows that the assumption of underlying stochastic processes was not necessarily representing the nature of the processes under investigation and, when other tools were used, deterministic features emerged. Non Linear Time Series Analysis (NLTS) allows researchers to test whether observed volatility conceals systematic non linear behavior, and to rigorously characterize governing dynamics. Behavioral patterns detected by non linear time series analysis, along with scientific principles and other expert information, guide the specification of mechanistic models that serve to explain real-world behavior rather than merely reproducing it. Often there is a misconception regarding the complexity of the level of mathematics needed to understand and utilize the tools of NLTS (for instance Chaos theory). However, mathematics used in NLTS is much simpler than many other subjects of science, such as mathematical topology, relativity or particle physics. For this reason, the tools of NLTS have been confined and utilized mostly in the fields of mathematics and physics. However, many natural phenomena investigated I many fields have been revealing deterministic non linear structures. In this book we aim at presenting the theory and the empirical of NLTS to a broader audience, to make this very powerful area of science available to many scientific areas. This book targets students and professionals in physics, engineering, biology, agriculture, economy and social sciences as a textbook in Nonlinear Time Series Analysis (NLTS) using the R computer language.

Abstract:
This book uses concepts from optimization theory to develop an integrated analytic framework for treating consumer, producer, and market equilibrium analyses as special cases of a generic optimization problem. The same framework applies to both stochastic and non-stochastic decision settings, so that the latter is recognized as an (important) special case of the former. The analytic techniques are borrowed from convex analysis and variational analysis. Special emphasis is given to generalized notions of differentiability, conjugacy theory, and Fenchel's Duality Theorem. The book shows how virtually identical conjugate analyses form the basis for modeling economic behavior in each of the areas studied. The basic analytic concepts are borrowed from convex analysis. Special emphasis is given to generalized notions of differentiability, conjugacy theory, and Fenchel's Duality Theorem. It is demonstrated how virtually identical conjugate analyses form the basis for modelling economic behaviour in each of the areas studied.

Abstract:
Chapter 6 argues that exploratory factor analysis is an abductive method of theory generation that exploits a principle of scientific inference known as the principle of the common cause. Factor analysis is an important family of multivariate statistical methods that is widely used in the behavioral and social sciences. The best known model of factor analysis is common factor analysis, which has two types: exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. A number of methodological issues that arise in critical discussions of exploratory factor analysis are considered. It is suggested that exploratory factor analysis can be profitably employed in tandem with confirmatory factor analysis.

Abstract:
Abstract Everyone negotiates. Whenever we need someone else to help us achieve our goals we negotiate. This book introduces theories of negotiation, including assumptions of scarcity and competition, or possibilities of integration of parties’ needs and interests and problem-solving approaches to achieve both joint and individual gain. The book provides analysis and guidance on how to assess what is at stake in each negotiation and how contexts vary to help us choose appropriate behaviors, including different strategies and tactics for achieving both joint and individually preferred outcomes. Illustrations and examples come from historical, diplomatic, international, legal, employment, relationship, business, family, and everyday negotiations. Drawing on the varied disciplines of game theory, economics, psychology, sociology, law, political science, and anthropology, negotiation is described as a multi-disciplinary process, involving both cognitive analysis and behavior. The book looks at modern applications of negotiation in complex multi-party, multi-issue situations, with cultural, racial, class, ethnic, and gender differences and use of negotiation processes in new dispute resolution and transactional settings, like mediation, facilitation, deliberative democracy, decision making, and restorative justice. Challenges to good negotiations in ethical dilemmas, legal enforcement, and behavioral barriers are explored.

The classic Box-Jenkins-Tiao model-building strategy is supplemented with recent auxiliary tests for transformation, differencing, and model selection. The validity of causal inferences is approached from two complementary directions. The four-validity system of Cook and Campbell relies on ruling out discrete threats to statistical conclusion, internal, construct, and external validity. The Rubin system causal model relies on the identification of counterfactual time series. The two approaches to causal validity are shown to be complementary and are illustrated with a construction of a synthetic control time series. Example analyses make optimal use of graphical illustrations. Mathematical methods used in the example analyses are explicated in technical appendices, including expectation algebra, sequences and series, maximum likelihood, Box-Cox transformation analyses and probability.

Abstract:
In this exploration of new possibilities for the reduction of workplace violence and occupational homicide within a variety of work environments, Kelleher examines the crimes of the lethal employee or ex-employee and develops a profile of characteristics and behaviors often associated with workplace violence or murder. This profile, in turn, can be used to recognize potential violence before it occurs, allowing employers to devise early and effective intervention strategies. The author develops the profile of the potentially lethal employee through behavioral science models and an analysis of case histories of incidents of occupational homicide.

Abstract:
In Chapter 8, “Motivational Interviewing: Evidence-Based Practice,” the research on the efficacy of motivational interviewing (MI) for achieving behavioral change in older adults is summarized and evaluated. Only meta-analyses and randomized controlled trails (RCTs) were included in the review. Fifteen RCTs were found that investigated the use of MI for enhancing behavioral change in older adults related to substance abuse/misuse, exercise, diet, and smoking. Beginning research on the use of MI with older clients suggests its efficacy for promoting behavioral change in this population. Results of randomized control trials reveal that MI is as effective as, or more effective than, other psychosocial interventions in fostering healthier behavior and improved mood. The studies discussed in this review were conducted in differing formats—face-to-face, telephone, and a combination of the two. The success of the telephone-based format, as well as the face-to-face approach, reveals the utility of MI interventions with homebound elders.

Abstract:
Multiple psychosocial treatments for substance-use disorders have been studied for efficacy. A recent meta-analysis indicates that psychosocial interventions are effective across multiple types of substances used. In the case of opiates, psychosocial interventions combined with medication appear to be the most effective. Many studies further agree that psychosocial interventions are an integral and necessary part of treating substance-use disorders. Although theoretical orientations may differ across psychosocial treatments, they have several principles and practices in common. All involve talk therapy or talk in communities as a way to clarify triggers, build commitment, and improve accountability. Many also target addiction behaviors and work to develop alternative contingencies to reduce or eliminate use. Finally, targeting repeated performance (or building “chains of committed behavior”) decreases the likelihood of relapse. This chapter discusses the most frequently studied and employed psychosocial treatments for substance use including CBT, motivational interviewing, contingency management, mindfulness, and community-based programs.

Abstract:
Throughout history it has been assumed that lying is accompanied by specific nonverbal behaviors; various sources still claim that nonverbal behavior is very revealing about deception. Systematic research, however, examining nonverbal cues to deceit has shown that nonverbal cues to deceit are faint and unreliable. This chapter starts with discussing under which circumstances people pay attention to nonverbal behavior and provides reasons why they do so. This is followed by a theoretical background of nonverbal cues to deception and discussions of the (weak) empirical evidence about (1) the relationship between nonverbal cues and deception, including the empirical evidence regarding the Behavior Analysis Interview and Ekman’s approach of observing facial expressions, and (2) people’s (poor) ability to detect deceit when paying attention to nonverbal behavior. Despite the popularity of observing nonverbal behavior to detect deception, analyzing speech content provides more accurate results, particularly when specific interview protocols are used.

Like perhaps no other concept, repetition drove Freud to an understanding of human behavior through development of models of the human mind and a method of treating neurotic behavior. This book comprises three parts. Part I, “Some Early Uses of ‘Repetition’ in Psychoanalysis,” examines repetition both in clinical therapy and in Freud’s use of phylogenetic explanation. Part II, composed of three chapters, outlines Freud’s journey to his vaunted death drive, examines Beyond the Pleasure Principle, and analyzes Freud’s use of compulsion to repeat and the death drive post 1920. Last, Part III is a critical analysis of Freud on repetition and the death drive, discusses why Freud was so wedded to his controversial death drive, and what can be salvaged from Freud’s observations and speculations. Here readers will find that Holowchak, qua philosopher, and Lavin, qua clinician, have different answers when it comes to the death drive.

Abstract:
This chapter uses the separation of powers (SOP) literature to explore the application of strategic models to judicial behavior. Strategic conceptions of judicial decision-making are often presented as a theoretical alternative to the attitudinal model. A review of the basic SOP model highlights the key institutional assumptions that motivate the different major variants of the SOP model and the differences with the attitudinal model. While the empirical literature reveals a tremendous amount of progress in the past twenty-five years, empirical support for the classic statutory SOP model remains elusive. However, the same cannot be said for newer institutional legitimacy models. The chapter concludes with suggestions for directions of future research.
