Abstract:
This systematic review examines the application of learning analytics to enhance user experience within Learning Management Systems in higher education institutions. Addressing a salient knowledge gap regarding the optimal integration of learning analytics for diverse learner populations, this study identifies analytical approaches and delineates implementation challenges that contribute to data misinterpretation and underutilisation. Consequently, the absence of a systematic evaluation of analytical methodologies impedes the capacity of higher education institutes to tailor learning processes to individual student needs. Adhering to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, a search was conducted across five academic databases. Studies employing learning analytics within Learning Management Systems environments to improve user experience in higher education institutions were included, while purely theoretical or non-higher education institution studies were excluded, resulting in a final corpus of 41 studies. Methodological rigour was assessed using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme Checklist. This study revealed diverse learning analytics methodologies and a dual research focus on specific platforms and broader impacts on Learning Management Systems. However, ethical, implementation, generalisability, interpretation, personalisation, and system quality challenges impede effective learning analytics integration for user experience improvement, demanding rigorous and contextually aware strategies. This study’s reliance on existing literature introduces potential selection and database biases. As such, future research should prioritise empirical validation and cross-institutional studies to address these limitations.

Abstract:
Today's students and teachers have access to a variety of information because of the adoption of learning management systems (LMS). As the educational system advanced, there was an increase in the total number of pupils enrolled in schools. In recent years, an increasing number of individuals have chosen to get their education via independent study at a distance. Every participant in the educational system, including instructors and students, has a propensity to adjust their practises so that they are in line with the prevailing pedagogical paradigm. As a consequence of this, educational institutions have the obligation to modernise the administrative models and data infrastructures at their institutions in order to improve the effectiveness of their student services and the overall quality of such services. Due to a lack of data storage and analytics capabilities for huge datasets, the enormous volumes of data created by students had to be taken into account and prioritised while creating the educational system. This was necessary because of the lack of capacity for such capabilities. This is one method of analysing the data stored in the LMS. There is a mountain of data to process, and we have a lot of analytical tools at our disposal to help us do so. These insights may then be put to use in the classroom. Developments in cutting-edge technology such as big data analytics have made possible one of the analytical techniques that may be used to find solutions to these difficulties.

Abstract:
Background: The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in banking has changed the way customer care is delivered by providing tools for predictive analytics and personalised engagement. AI-driven personalisation has become a crucial way for banks to improve the user experience as they try to keep up with changing client expectations in the digital age. Objective: This study looks at how AI-powered predictive analytics may help personalise the experience for customers and how it affects their experience in digital banking settings. Methods: We used a quantitative study design and a structured questionnaire to ask 200 banking clients who use AI-based digital services. We used SPSS to look at the data. We used reliability testing (Cronbach's Alpha), Pearson correlation, and regression analysis to figure out how predictive analytics, personalisation, and user experience are related. Findings: With a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.908, we could be sure that the instrument was reliable. The findings of a simple linear regression showed that predictive analytics has a big effect on consumer personalisation (R² = 0.737, p < 0.001). The Pearson correlation study showed that there is a strong positive link between personalisation and user experience (r = 0.850, p < 0.01). Also, multiple regression analysis showed that predictive analytics and personalisation together account for 75.9% of the differences in user experience (R² = 0.759, F = 310.264, p < 0.001), which supports all three research hypotheses. Conclusion: The results show how important it is for banks to incorporate predictive analytics in their services to improve customer interactions and satisfaction. Personalisation powered by AI not only makes service better, but it also develops trust and long-term relationships with customers. This study adds to both academic literature and banking practice by showing how important AI is for determining the future of digital consumer interactions.

Abstract:
The web has become one of most powerful tools of communication in the world today, representing one of the most important environments for the promotion of organizations and the realization of transactions worldwide. Because of that, measuring the results and the return on the investment made on digital materials is increasingly important for professionals, whose job is to monitor knowledge and performance. In this context, web analytics applications are a valuable tool for continuously assess these indicators performance, focusing on the organizations’ website as the core component for most digital strategies. The collection and analysis of web data ultimately aims at content, design and business optimization, based on educated premises supported on figures and facts, as opposed to decision processes based solely on personal inclination from decision makers. In order to explore the application of these techniques in a business environment, we resort to Google Analytics for the analysis of a case study of a website from an ecommerce IT retailer based in Belgium, working in a B2B environment. This research extensively covers the main indicators available, individually assessing each report’s contribution for the comprehension of business evolution. In addition, we start by defining the ambit of application, the technologies used, as well as the main concepts associated with this kind of tools. Moreover, we also look into the integration of web data with other software applications, for an agile visualization and treatment of the data.

Abstract:
As the Internet usage keeps increasing, the number of web sites and hence the number of web pages also keeps increasing, so there is a need to align the user experience with the overall websites purposes. Toward this requirement, the proposed recommendation systems suggest the user pages that might be of its interest based on past navigation profiles of overall site usage. Most of existing recommendation systems are based on association rules or based on keywords (when content is considered). However, on usage data shortage or sparse data and if sequential order is to be considered such traditional approaches may become unsuitable. Conversely, the Web Analytics arena, assuming other paradigm, has experienced a considerable growth through mature tools that allow the collection and analysis of internet data in order to understand and optimize website efficiency and efficacy. This work proposes the development of a recommendation system based on the Google Analytics tool. The prototype is constituted by two main components which are: 1) a service responsible for the construction and associated logic that underlies recommendations generation; 2) an embeddable library on any website that will furnish website with a configurable recommendation widget. Preliminary evaluations had showed that the implementation follows the logic of the proposed model.

Abstract:
Rapid developments in the educational system significantly facilitate the popularisation of education, making education more accessible. The learning process should be systematically analyzed to assist teaching, however, traditional learning systems provide limited support for educators. The learning analytics dashboard is, therefore, becoming a popular tool to provide insights into the learning process by analyzing and interpreting the collected data with effective visualizations. With the purpose of improving pedagogical decision-making, it is of importance to provide a comprehensive overview and informative feedback for the learning process. This study aims to explore the affordances and challenges of designing a comprehensive learning analytics dashboard for educators to support personalized learning and adaptive teaching. A large amount of research on the learning analytics dashboard was reviewed as the theoretical foundation. The prototype of the dashboard was developed based on the obtained theories. To examine the prototype, a user study with user experience designers was conducted to evaluate the clarity of the visualization and the effectiveness of the dashboard. The results summarised from the thematic analysis indicated that the dashboard could serve as a potentially valuable tool with overall clear interaction to support educators, and the visualization was considered intuitive to understand the connection of multiple data points. Suggestions for designing a learning analytics dashboard are discussed in terms of visualization, consistency, conception, navigation, interaction, information via text, visual appearance, functionality, and privacy. To further improve the affordances of the dashboard, future research with educators is of importance to conduct.

Abstract:
This thesis was initiated in the context of enhancing the user experience for analyzing data due to the increase of the volume of data related to this activity. On the one hand, users’ psychological needs for the simple use of analytic applications are paid more attention than before; on the other hand, the task they are willing to conduct is getting more and more complicated, which may cause memory overload that influences the task performance. To ensure that both aspects are taken into account, the designers should provide a proper information and design a proper interface that meets both users’ needs and the requirements of their activity. In this research, we are interested in improving the task recommitment following a task suspension or interruption in the context of a visual data analysis task. The multitasking nature of user actions and limited storage capacity of human working memory cause difficulties in re-engaging an interrupted or suspended task. Therefore, it is beneficial to have a memory supplementation tool that supports users to recommit their task in optimal conditions. A literature review first leads to the positioning of our research on the enactive approach and sensorimotor perception that consider the tool as an artifact configuring the interaction between the user and the task, in two modes the “put down” mode and the “in hand” mode. From this point of view, we have found that the commonly used cognitive memory model ignores the role of interaction with the external world in the formation of the memory, and consequently ignores the “in hand” dimension of the artifacts in one memory construction. Therefore, we complete this model with the embodied memory, which gives us a new perspective to design an appropriate memory tool that serves as a supplementation of our perceptual system. Finally, the design principles in human-computer interaction and UX helped us build a tool and conduct an experimental plan highlighting the link between changes in perception conditions and changes in the dynamics of interaction. As a conclusion, the research problem is introduced in terms of how we can provide users with a relevant context to recommit to resolving a task after interruption. The design proposal needs to be explored, designed and evaluated. The first experiment, the exploratory study, analyzes the perception of interactive applications by experienced designers. This study helped us construct a vocabulary of evaluation of the design for a memory supplementation support and guided us for the design considering these criteria. In the second experiment, we develop a tool based on a function that we call the “history path”, which permits to show, in a specific window of the user interface, some of the steps of a previous task resolution that a user has performed during previous experience (or to simulate a resolution task interruption). We set up a simple (minimalist) experiment simulating a problem-solving task, which was recorded to evaluate the extent to which a history path support can help the user for efficient recovering of an interrupted task. The first part of this experiment allows us to confirm the potential use of this function and helps us explore the design space. In the second part, we experiment two different tools, based on two history path representations, a static one and a dynamic one. The evaluation results allow us to understand the technical conditions of a positive experience for which task recovery is facilitated. In this second experiment, several means for recording the user experience were mobilized: the evaluation of the durations and gaze frequencies on area of interest in the interface window by eye tracking, the recording of the verbalizations during the RTA (Retrospective Think Aloud) session, and the semantic evaluation

Abstract:
This thesis is organised into two chapters: a systematic review; an empirical research paper; and relevant appendices. Each chapter is presented as a standalone component adding to current gaps in the literature. Chapter 1 presents a systematic literature review of all current research aiming to understand service-users’ views of psychological formulation. A total of 297 studies were initially retrieved. 11 papers were included in the final review. A narrative synthesis of their findings is presented. The literature suggests several common themes include: responses to formulation; biopsychosocial understanding; practicable and tangible; collaboration; therapeutic relationship; process; communication; change and diagnostic symptoms. Clinical implications, gaps in knowledge and the need for further research are discussed. Chapter 2 extends the research discussed in the systematic review with a qualitative empirical paper exploring service-users experiences of the SDR. Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was used to explore/analyse the data. Four superordinate themes emerged from the data: ‘Chaos to clarity (a process of meaning making)’; ‘The change process’; ‘Relational dynamics’; and ‘Focus on treatment context/options’. Findings are consistent with, and extend, the current literature on CAT and formulation. Strengths and weaknesses of this research, future research ideas and clinical implications at an individual therapy and service/organisational level are discussed.

Ahmad, Sheikh Sleiman Shirin.

Full text
Abstract:
The user experience design (UX) perspective is essential when evaluating interaction with all types of robots, but especially social robots. As these are developed to perform important tasks in society such as being companion robots in geriatric care, schools and more. The User Experience Design area has a wide collection of evaluation methods that the human-robot interaction area can benefit from. This study aims to improve the experience of interacting with a social robot. For this purpose, literature studies have been conducted where UX aspects were identified that are relevant to focus on when evaluating the conditions for engagement in the interaction between human and social robot. A knowledge gap was identified of limited available analytical evaluation methods in human-robot interaction (HRI). In order to develop a new analytical evaluation method to promote engagement with a social robot, a methodological approach was used to develop evaluation methods. The design process of the new method consisted of five iterative phases that resulted in an Analytical evaluation method of engagement in interaction with social companion robots (AUEIS). AEUIS is designed to evaluate the conditions for achieving engagement when interacting with a social robot. Great focus was placed on the fifth phase where versions of AUEIS were tested by several UX designers based on the criteria that AUEIS should have high validity, be useful and have good learnability. The testing was performed with four UX designers with different experiences in HRI. The results of the testing showed that a UX designer without previous experience in evaluating HRI can use AUEIS without problems. At the same time, the aspects developed to carry out the evaluation were comprehensive to identify problems when interacting with a social robot. The result of this is work is a complete analytical evaluation method. AUEIS consists of seven aspects that study the conditions for engagement with a social robot. To evaluate with AUEIS, there are three phases: Preparation, evaluation, and analysis. Each phase has some activities that are followed to obtain a result about the conditions of engagement in the interaction with a social robot. The result of the evaluation with AUEIS will consist of qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data that is obtained can be analyzed to get a list of which aspects of engagement are not fulfilled by the social robot. The quantitative data can provide a quick overview of which aspects have the most problems and which problems are most serious. AUEIS evaluates the conditions for engagement when interacting with a social robot and is limited to this because it evaluates whether the social robot meets those conditions for engagement. Therefore, the user experience of engagement is evaluated only in a minor way based on how much the social robot meets the conditions for engagement. Future research and development of AUEIS would have been interesting and needed for AEUIS to be able to evaluate whether the user is engaged and to what extent is. Another interesting aspect to study can be the user experience of engagement whether it is during long-term interaction, short-term interaction, or different phases of an engagement. For example, how to evaluate that the user begins engagement with a social robot and how should it be evaluated that the engagement is maintained and continues or if it interrupts and why from a user perspective? Chapter 5 (End result the AUEIS method) presents the method and detailed instructions on implementation are presented in Appendix 7.

Kiras, James D. Special Operations Success. Oxford University Press, 2024. https://doi.org/10.1093/9780198902096.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract James D. Kiras establishes a new benchmark in military theory in this deeply analytic and innovative work. In it, he answers several pressing questions: how successful have American special operations been over the past quarter-century? Are special forces fated to cycles of expansion and misuse? Will special forces invariably exceed the authorities granted to them because of who they are and what they do? Is a general theory of special operations feasible given the range of activities and conditions that fall under the category? The book is based on two decades of practical experiences, teaching, and consulting experience within different special operations communities. Its analysis and conclusions are designed to inform practitioners, policy makers, educators, and the general public. It develops a framework, in the form of a theory comprising capabilities and control, for comprehensively evaluating special operations success. It contains more than twenty figures, maps, and illustrations to aid in the process. The book is divided into three parts. Part I lays the foundation for a general theory of special operations by looking at previous waves of scholarship, as well as historical special operations precedents stretching back into ancient history. Part II explores the two component parts of theory, capabilities and control, and expands our understanding of the former as well as the civil-military conceptualizations of the latter. Each become the basis for a triad that, when merged and animated by elements of strategy, form a dynamic theory and framework to evaluate special operations success. Part III uses various aspects of the theory, depending on available information, to assess the success of special operations over a twenty-year period in the United Kingdom, South Africa, and the United States.

Abstract:
This research investigated audio-visual analytics of geoscientific data in virtual reality (VR)-enhanced implementation, where users interacted with the dataset with a VR controller and a haptic device. Each interface allowed users to explore rock minerals in unimodal and multimodal virtual environments (VE). In the unimodal version, color variations demonstrated differences in minerals. As users navigated the data using different interfaces, visualization options could be switched between the original geographical topology and its color-coded version, signifying underlying minerals. During the multimodal navigation of the dataset, in addition to the visual feedback, an auditory display was performed by playing a musical tone in different timbres. For example, ten underlying minerals in the sample were explored. Among them, anorthite was represented by nylon guitar, the grand piano was used for albite, and so on. Initial findings showed that users preferred the audio-visual exploration of geoscientific data over the visual-only version. Virtual touch enhanced the user experience while interacting with the data.

Abstract:
Abstract Predictive Corrosion Management have a lot of attractive use cases including Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) enabled by monitoring and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This paper describes the deployment and evaluation of remote monitoring solution with application in corrosion under insulation management especially for cold duty insulation with intermittent service. A remote Monitoring system using Electro-Magnetic Guided Radar (EMGR) is described in this paper that uses advanced analytics for predictions. This technology involves use of sensors embedded in the insulation and a data logger transmits data wirelessly to a central server. Risk analysis and localization for CUI risk severity are then automatically performed with advanced analytics and accessed by the end user to help optimize CUI inspection plan. This provides important data for corrosion engineers to plan, schedule and target their efforts. This presentation will describe the evaluation and experience of deployment of CUI monitoring in an oil and gas plant. The lessons learnt from field use cases will be presented. The new method of using sensing and Industrial Internet of Things (IOT) to detect and predict corrosion in the field will be a huge impact for the asset integrity industry struggling with the threat of hidden corrosion such as CUI.

Abstract This paper reviews experience with installation and use of a cycle chemistry expert system. To help power plant operators and chemists to control cycle chemistry and corrosion, the expert system was developed based on industry guidelines and experience. This software uses inputs from plant analytical and other instrumentation and grab sample analyses to determine current water chemistry and corrosion problems and recommend corrective actions. It also verifies the chemical analytical data, automatically produces reports, and provides cycle and water treatment descriptions. Using this program, the status of the cycle chemistry for multiple units can be monitored simultaneously through the utility's computer network. The plant customized Simulators allow operators and chemists to be trained in water chemistry control and problem recognition for their specific power plant. This program currently covers drum and once-through boiler units with and without condensate polishers, using acid and alkali-forming cooling water, all-ferrous and mixed metallurgy, and phosphate, equilibrium phosphate, sodium hydroxide, AVT, and oxygenated treatments. The experiences with installation of this software at five locations is summarized and, based on this experience, recommendations for future work are presented.

Abstract:
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper introduces an innovative digital solution for the categorization and analysis of fractures in Auto components, leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) technologies. The proposed system automates the fracture analysis process, enhancing speed, reliability, and accessibility for users with varying levels of expertise.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">The platform enables users to upload images of fractured parts, which are then processed by an AI/ML engine. The engine employs an image classification model to identify the type of fracture and a segmentation model to detect and analyze the direction of the fracture. The segmentation model accurately predicts cracks in the images, providing detailed insights into the direction and progression of the fractures.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">Additionally, the solution offers an intuitive interface for stakeholders to review past analyses and upload new images for examination. The AI/ML engine further examines the origin of the fracture, its progression pattern, and the structures formed during the fracture’s development. The results are stored as attributes within the system, facilitating easy review and future analysis.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">A notable feature of the system is its possibility to learn from user feedback. If the model provides an incorrect failure recommendation, users can correct it. These corrections can be used to retrain the model, improving its accuracy over time. This feedback loop will ensure that the system continually evolves and adapts to new data, enhancing its reliability and performance.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">This innovative approach not only streamlines the fracture analysis process but also ensures that the insights gained are comprehensive and easily accessible. By integrating advanced AI/ML techniques, the solution represents a significant advancement in the field of fracture analysis, offering a robust tool for both novice and experienced users. The system’s adaptability and user-friendly interface make it an asset for improving the accuracy and efficiency of fracture analysis subsequently deskilling the judgement process for failures in Auto Components.</div></div>
