This research report investigates the practice of stubble burning in Munshiganj, Bangladesh, examining its causes, impacts, and potential alternatives. Although stubble burning is a traditional practice, it remains a prevalent method used by farmers for land fertility, potash supplementation, insect control, and cost management. However, this practice contributes to air and environmental pollution and poses public health risks, particularly for children. The report presents alternative uses for stubble, such as organic fertilizer and cooking fuel, and proposes policy measures to regulate the p

Abstract:
This research identifies factors to be considered in the adoption of a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) accommodating the software needs of a tertiary institution. The study discusses the potential advantages and disadvantages of VDI, focusing specifically on the performance of the architectural software Archicad when used virtually. The findings will be relevant to similar programmes, such as Revit, and software used in other disciplines, especially where processing power is important. Aims discussed include reducing high-specification computers rarely used to capacity, assessing user exp

Abstract:
We use Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) neural networks, a deep learning technique, to forecast Colombian headline inflation one year ahead through two approaches. The first one uses only information from the target variable, while the second one incorporates additional information from some relevant variables. We employ sample rolling to the traditional neuronal network construction process, selecting the hyperparameters with criteria for minimizing the forecast error. Our results show a better forecasting capacity of the network with information from additional variables, surpassing both the ot

Agüero, Jorge M., and Javier Torres. Stylized Facts about the Quantity and Quality of Parental Time Investments on the Skill Formation of Their Children. Inter-American Development Bank, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0011786.

Abstract:
This paper uses seven nationally representative time use surveys in Latin America to identify key stylized facts regarding the quantity and quality of parental time investment on the skill formation of their children. Traditional models of household behavior have failed to account for the differential behavior of parents with respect to skill formation of their children vis-à-vis home production. This paper finds that, similarly to higher-income countries, there is a positive education gradient, as more educated parents spend more time on skill formation than their less educated counterparts.
