Background: From time immemorial, medicinal plants have been used in the treatment and management of diseases, Uvaria chamae is such plant. The aim of this study was to unravel and explore the scientific basis of the root extract of the plant behind its effectiveness in ameliorating illnesses using several biochemical and pharmacological assays. Materials and Methods: Uvaria chamae roots were obtained from a local community in Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria. The roots were washed, air-dried, blended and soaked in ethanol for few days, filtered and the filtrate dried in a water bath. The dried samp

This research studied the potential of the seed oil of Uvaria chamae for biodiesel production. The oil was extracted using a soxhlet extractor and n-hexane as a solvent before being transesterified into biodiesel. The results obtained showed a low yield of 12.5 % for the extracted oil. The oil showed a high acid value of 14.02± 0.09 mgKOH/g, which indicated high free fatty acid content and the percentage yield of the biodiesel produced was 88.35± 0.5%. The profile of methyl esters showed that unsaturated linoleic methyl ester was dominant. The results suggested that Uvaria chamae seed oil posse

This research investigated the capacity of Uvaria chamae in alleviating cadmium-induced toxicity in the seminal vesicles and lipid profile of Wistar rats, addressing a critical gap in current knowledge. Cadmium, a hazardous heavy metal, poses substantial risks to male reproductive health. Conducted with 25 Wistar rats under controlled conditions, the study involved local sourcing of Uvaria chamae, extracting its bioative ingredients through alcohol maceration. Dosages for cadmium and the extract were meticulously determined for five experimental groups including the control group, with rats ac

Prostate malignancy is one of the most diagnosed malignancies in men worldwide and a major health problem to men in both developed and developing world. Currently, several medicinal plants have been reported to possess anti-malignant property, hence we decided to investigate this property in Uvaria chamae (UC) on Ki-67 which is a prognostic factor in prostate malignancy. Emphasis was also placed on oxidative stress markers. A total of sixty (60) Wistar rats were used for this investigation and were randomly divided into ten (10) groups of six (6) animals each.
