Abstract:
The article has covered the first 5 months of V.P. Demikhov's working at N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute for Emergency Medicine (since June 1960), and described the Institute Scientific Session held in November 1960 and dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Sheremetev hospital foundation. Among the issues at that session, the topic of coronary artery failure and its treatment was discussed. However, V.P. Demikhov's presentation on his original technique of direct myocardial revascularization by means of forming the anastomosis between the internal mammary and coronary arteries was greeted coolly. The author believes that, probably, at that time, in November 1960, the idea of making such an operation in clinic could occur to Dr. V.I. Kolesov, one of the Session participants from Leningrad, and he embodied the idea in 1964 after he had mastered the V.P. Demikhov's technique in the experiment.

Abstract:
Problem and purpose. The article considers research on comparing various opensource learning management systems in distance education and educational process management. With all the variety of diverse education management systems, the choice of the optimal model remains quite difficult. The integration of the electronic education management system into the global process of management and training in the system of higher professional education means a reorientation of the educational process to modern needs in the effective use of information and telecommunication technologies. The relevance of the article is defined by the urgency of the transition to the active and widespread use of information and telecommunication technologies in the management of the educational process; the ambiguity of the ways and degree of integration of electronic education management systems into the real process of managing a pedagogical university; the discussion of the choice of a model of the education management system and the need for scientific justification of the optimal strategy for developing a specially designed educational process management system. The problem is determined by the need to analyze and compare the Moodle distance learning system with other open source learning management systems, and identify all interested parties in the process of selecting such a management system, create a step-by-step guide for choosing a management system, and compile an individual list of functions that are consistent with priorities learning and objectives of the university. The purpose of the article is to describe approaches to the development of organizational forms for organizing the learning process, to determine the possibilities of implementing new approaches to managing the educational process. Methodology. The methodological basis was the analysis of the significance and development of distance education systems in Russian pedagogy. In the works of scientists (A.A. Andreev, V.F. Gornev, Yu.P. Gospodarik, V.I. Kinelev, V.P. Kolmogorov, V.N. Lazarev, A.V. Mogilev, V.I. Ovsyannikov, O.P. Okolelov, E.S. Polat, A.E. Petrov, V.I. Soldatkin, E.G. Skibitsky, V.P. Tikhomirov, O.B. Tyschenko, A.V. Khutorsky, V.D. Shadrikov, V.A. Shapovalov) the extensive range of ideas about the nature and content of distance education, the features of the educational process, the specifics of management and organization of such a process is analyzed in sufficient detail. Results. The expediency of using the electronic control system in the universitys management system is justified, and the technology of designing and using additional modules, taking into account the universitys target settings, and building the Electronic Deans module on this basis is proposed. The principles and conditions for the organization of the management process in an educational organization are identified, the project management method is considered as the basis for designing a model for managing the educational process using information and telecommunication technologies. Conclusion. The results led to the conclusion that the informatization of education is becoming a priority for the development of all educational organizations. The introduction of an electronic document management system will save a huge part of teachers working time, and a new approach to compiling courses will significantly improve the content of modern education. The proposed model for the implementation of information technology allows to speed up the collection, processing of a large amount of information, optimize the time and money spent on decision-making, improve the quality of managerial decisions by providing relevant, reliable information. When selecting information and software systems, it is important to correctly determine the requirements, criteria, as well as the functions, responsibilities, tasks of the employees for whom they should be intended.

Abstract:
The subject of this publication is the psychological analysis of the system of pedagogical correction (therapeutic pedagogy) developed by the famous Russian educator Vsevolod Petrovich Kashchenko, specialist in the field of education of difficult children. The author concentrates on some data of V.P. Kashchenko’s scientific biography that are directly related to the opening of a unique medical and pedagogical institution in 1908 — a sanatorium-school for disabled children. It led to the emergence of a network of special institutions for children with developmental disabilities in the years to follow, especially in the Soviet period. Methods. The article analyzes the terms used by V.P. Kashchenko: “defective child”, “difficult child”, “special childhood”. The concept of “difficult child” was introduced by V.P. Kashchenko to denote a group of children with marked behavioral disorders and character traits that disrupt their successful socialization, and in particular cause problems in learning the curriculum, and often lead to asocial behavior in school years. Subsequently, the meaning of this term changed, but now it is used in a sense close to how it was regarded by V.P. Kashchenko. Results. General characteristics of V.P. Kashchenko’s effective and practically proven system of education for children with behavioral disorders are given. An attempt is made to identify the psychological foundations of V.P. Kashchenko’s pedagogical correction. The main principle is social conditioning of children’s exclusivity, in particular difficult character traits, that are corrected by the complex system of methods developed by V.P. Kashchenko. The psychological analysis of V.P. Kashchenko’s pedagogical system is based on the ideas of Russian scientists on the unity of education and development, the commonality of the laws of mental development of normal children and those with developmental disorders. It is concluded that it is reasonable to refer to V.P. Kashchenko’s scientific heritage as a source of psychological and pedagogical information in the field of raising children with developmental disorders. The article is dedicated to V.P. Kashchenko 150th anniversary celebrated this year

Abstract:
Violence against women in cohabiting and marital relationships is, at present, a prominent phenomenon in South Africa. Domestic violence against women and children in South Africa is widespread and on the increase, also in Potchefstroom. Yet limited interventions are available. The interventions that are available include the SAPS, the court for the protection order, NGO’s and social workers. Female victims need measures that focus on building and empowering them with skills. Therefore the researcher adapted the Personal Growth Programme of FAMSA in Welkom to cater for the needs of female victims of domestic violence who are currently or were previously in an abusive relationship. The newly formulated Personal Empowerment Training Programme (PETP) is a tool that provides the female victims with the opportunity to deal with poor self–image, emotional demoralisation, loss of selfhood, self–blame and shame. Aim The aim of the research was to determine the effect of the PETP on the knowledge, attitude and behaviour of female victims of domestic violence in Potchefstroom. Method The main core of the research can be depicted as programme evaluation in which an evaluative research design was used. In the main study an experimental group was subjected to the PETP, while the control group was not. However, both experiential group and control group had to complete the pre–post questionnaire. Results The results proved that the PETP had a positive impact on the knowledge, attitude and behaviour of female victims affected by domestic violence.

Ecological interactions are of extreme importance to every ecosystem, once the relationships between plants and pollinators have a structuring role for natural and agricultural systems. The reproductive phase is a defining moment in the lifecycle of any organism, influenced by the biotic and abiotic conditions, that draws the reproductive characteristics. In this way the distribution of the species is highly related to the mechanisms of dispersion and conditions of the place to determine the density and the high diversity of species that we find in the planet. Furthermore, often the anthropogenic impact is a striking factor in this whole relationship. Orchidaceae is a cosmopolitan family found in almost all continents of the Earth, except in Antarctica, with about 24500 species. In Brazil the domain of the Atlantic Forest stands out in number of species, reaching 50% of all species found in the country. Laeliinae is the third largest subtribe of Orchidaceae, with about 2080 species exclusively distributed in the Neotropical Region, being often desired by collectors due to the morphological and chromatic diversity of their flowers. Hadrolaelia coccinea (Lindl.) Chiron & V.P.Castro occurs in the South and Southeast regions of Brazil, being endemic to the Atlantic Domain. The flowers are main characteristic is its intense red color, with great ornamental appeal. In the Parque Estadual do Ibitipoca this species has a predatory collection history, where a subpopulation is extinct in the place. In this way, a study was carried out evaluating aspects of the reproductive biology, spatial distribution and anthropogenic impact in order to evaluate the situation of the species in said park. In the first chapter the study of biology reproductive was fullfiled assessing phenology, possible pollinators, aspects of floral biology, crossing systems and viable sees of natural pollinations, through the tretazolium test. The system is described annual - flowering patterns, with main strategy - GFD – Generalized Food Deception, for not offering floral reward for its pollinator, deceiving him through the another species with which she shares morphological characteristics and which offer nectar. By the floral characteristics the mechanism of pollination is "Key- hole flower" having the hummingbird as a potential pollinator. It presents a self- compatible and allogamic system, with cross-pollination as a rule, since there is the presence of a physical barrier that avoids self-pollination. Consequently, it presents a low fruiting rate, but with a high number of seeds. In the second chapter was evaluated the spatial distribution through of four transects of 200 x 8 m distributed inside and border of dwarf cloud forest, in transition cloud shrub. Your spatial distribution was evaluates through os Índice Morisita (IM) Variance/Avarage rate (R). The individuals in the both environment were accounted in groups of youth and adults, registering the forophytes. The statistical significance of test was compared by test t. The correlation of circumference of the trunks with the abundance of individuals of H. coccinea was done through of a linear regression. The results showed an aggregate distribution pattern, with differences of abundance between the interior and border environments of the dwarf cloud forest, but the density of young and mature individuals did not have significant difference. There is a preference for a species of phorophyte, Eremanthus erythropappus (DC.) MacLeish (Asteraceae), popularly called candeia, with CAP having a small influence on the density of individuals on the phorophytes. In the third chapter we evaluated the anthropogenic impact on H. coccinea in areas where the circulation of tourists, through the establishment of four transects of 200 x 8 m in two environment, at where tourists pass are allowed (T) and circulation is not allowed (ST), and registrer the abundance of individuals in the forophytes. The statistical significance was fulfill of Mann-Whitney. The subpopulation of T presents a low rate of individuals, opposing what occurs in the environment ST, which presents a subpopulation with high number of individuals.

Empirically Computer Science (CS) and IT-related graduates are failing to secure specialist posts in the first three years after graduation due to limited skills and specialist experience. This issue contributes to the future skills gap of professionals for our technology-driven world. Consequently there is a growing vendor qualifications market; creditability of digital wallets and their global acceptance. We propose a new CS curriculum business value model comprising academia; embedded yearly industry qualifications; annual short placements (increased employer engagement); industrial placement; an extended academic year; fees (marginal increase). Benefits include: expediting graduates to achieve their long-term goals; skills gap minimised; and employers recruiting ready professionals.

Abstract:
This essay is in three parts. Each part, or short essay, deals with a novel that has a collection of poetry appended to it. The novels are 'Big Sur' by Jack Kerouac, 'How to Save Your Own Life' by Erica Jong, and 'V.T.' by Philip Lee. In the short essays I explore some of the relationships between the poetry and prose in the novels, and touch on how the authors present themselves by the inclusion of poetry, ostensibly written by them. Note on why I've chosen to include essays on 'Big Sur' and 'How to Save Your Own Life': I've been a fan of Kerouac since my late teens, and Jong since my early twenties (I was born in 1956). Specifically, I've admired Kerouac for his depiction of men in search of a purpose in life, and Jong for her depiction of heterosexually active feminist women. The combination could be explosive, like tossing ice cubes into a hot chip pan. My novel, in a somewhat safe (ie sealed) historical setting, is only a first attempt at bringing these two important strands of literary endeavour together.

Abstract:
In the service industry, preferential treatment is a popular strategic approach for retaining valued customers (e.g., Barnes, 1997; Gronroos & Ojasalo, 2004; Zabin & Brebach, 2004; Lacey, Russell, Jaebeom, & Morgan, 2007; Mattila, Hanks, & Zhang, 2013). However, some researchers argue that preferential treatment can lead to customer dissention toward the service firms (Fournier, Dobscha, & Mick, 1998). Marketers are reminded not to ignore the majority of less-profitable non-VIP customers, who have potential to be developed into valuable VIP customers in the future and contribute to firms’ economies of scale, total profits and healthy long-term growth (e.g., Zeithaml, Rust, & Lemon, 2001; Johnson & Selnes, 2005). The existing literature has mostly focused on negative responses (e.g., negative word-of-mouth, brand switching) of non-VIP customers in a preferential treatment context (Feinberg et al., 2002; Lehmann, 2001). However, positive responses of non-VIP customers in a preferential treatment scheme are largely neglected. Therefore, research on the positive responses from the majority of non-VIP customers is important for building a more complete theory of preferential treatment in this regard. In the current research, benign envy refers to a positive motivation derived from envy that compels the envious person to catch up with the envied person. Non-VIP customers with benign envy are more likely to have positive responses (e.g., treatment upgrading, positive word-of-mouth) toward the desired possession of other customers (i.e., VIP treatment). Investigating the antecedents leading to non-VIP customers’ benign envy of preferential treatment in the relationship marketing domain is a critical issue. Therefore, the primary objective of the current research is to investigate the antecedent conditions leading to non-VIP customers’ benign envy in preferential treatment (i.e., VIP treatment) contexts. To achieve my research objective of predicting benign envy of non-VIP customers, I first propose a popular market factor, the VIP granting method, as an antecedent variable influencing non-VIP customers’ benign envy (criterion variable). Specifically, I propose two types of VIP granting methods which have different impacts on benign envy of non-VIP customers toward VIP treatment. The current research theorizes that ascription-oriented VIP granting methods (e.g., birthdate, gender, kinship) and achievement-oriented VIP granting methods (e.g., accumulated consumption points, accumulated mileage, stipulated deposits) determine the choice of salient dimensions for comparison between non-VIP customers and VIP customers, which in turn determines the outcome of comparison (similar vs. dissimilar). The current research further investigates the mediation roles of perceived attainability and perceived deservingness to explain the psychological mechanisms that induce benign envy in non-VIP customers (Study 1). In addition, the current research examines the impact of cultural differences (ascription-oriented versus achievement-oriented) on perceived deservingness of VIP treatment by envied VIP customers (Study 2). The current research contributes to the marketing theory of preferential treatment in four respects. First, this research operationalizes the concept of benign envy as a motivation rather than an emotion to help explain and understand the controversial concept of benign envy in previous studies (e.g., Tai, Narayanan, & McAllister, 2012; Van de Ven, Zeelenberg, & Pieters, 2009). Second, drawing on the concepts of ascription and achievement in the discipline of sociology, the current research classifies conventional VIP granting methods into two categories based on customers’ ascribed attributes (e.g., birthdate) and achieved attributes (e.g., accumulated mileage). This classification helps both scholars and practitioners better understand the impacts of different VIP treatment strategies on non-VIP customers. Third, a theoretical model is proposed to predict benign envy. The proposed model contributes to the service literature with an in-depth understanding of psychological processes explaining how the benign envy of non-VIP customers is induced in the preferential treatment marketing context. Fourth, instead of drawing a holistic view on similarity as adopted in previous envy research and social comparison literature, the current research investigates the effects of similarity between the VIPs and non-VIPs from a more complex but realistic perspective. In this research, the upward social comparison which elicits envy was operationalized by similarity/dissimilarity along with two independent dimensions (ascription and achievement) instead of a unidimensional holistic perception. This operationalization allows the possibility that individuals will be similar in one dimension but dissimilar in another. The salient dimension of similarity between VIP customers and non-VIP customers thus can be triggered and manipulated by different VIP granting methods at the discretion of marketers. This advancement in the operationalization of similarity further contributes to envy studies and social comparison theory in the preferential treatment domain. Finally, the current research contributes to the theory of envy from a cross-cultural perspective and reveals a cultural boundary condition of the effect of perceived similarity on perceived deservingness of VIP treatment, which in turn influences the valence of envy. My findings showed that the effect of perceived similarity on perceived deservingness is more pronounced in achievement-oriented cultures than in ascription-oriented cultures. This is because ascription-oriented non-VIP customers (vs. achievement-oriented) tend to respect and value the ascribed attributes regardless of whether they are the actual beneficiary (i.e., similar to the VIP in personal salient attributes)

Abstract:
AbstractAccording to VBP, to determine whether an individual ought to be able to choose to have safe, effective and truly consensual sexual orientation change efforts (SOCE—also known as conversion therapy), the legitimate values—values compatible with mutual respect—of the individual involved and other affected parties need to be considered. Fulford suggests that homophobic values are incompatible with mutual respect, which suggests that SOCE should not be available. This chapter argues that certain homophobic values may be compatible with mutual respect. Hence, in certain circumstances, VBP could allow safe, effective and truly consensual SOCE to go ahead. This could be considered to be a weakness of VBP. However, VBP should be applauded for considering the values of all involved, including those who make choices for themselves that do not align with the dominant ideology of a society.
