Abstract:
The two new associations of the feathermoss coniferous boreal forest, Equiseto scirpoidi—Piceetum obovatae (all. Piceion excelsae) and Zigadeno sibirici—Pinetum sylvestris (all. Dicrano-Pinion, cl. Vaccinio-Piceetea), with 2 subassociations and 5 variants are described from the water-protective zone of the Ufa Plateau (Republic Bashkortostan). The stands of the associations are restricted to steep slopes of the Ufa R. and the Pavlovsk Reservoir. The diagnoses and descriptions of all the new syntaxa are given. Floristically, the syntaxa are typical of the simultaneous occurrence of diagnostic species groups of the classes Vaccinio-Piceetea, Querco-Fagetea, and Brachypodio-Betuletea. This fact represents the ecotone effect action at a regional scale, as boreal, nemoral and steppe florogenetic complexes meet each other in the study area.

Abstract:
This paper presents a characterization of the syntaxa of zonal dark coniferous forests dominated by Abies nephrolepis, A. sachalinensis, Picea jezoensis, P. glehnii, and P. obovata of the class Vaccinio-Piceetea Br.-Bl. in Br.-Bl. et al. 1939 and the order Abieti veitchii–Piceetalia jezoensis Miyawaki, Ohba, Okuda, Nakayama et Fujiwara 1968. The order Pinetalia pumilae Suzuki 1964, which unites thickets of Siberian dwarf pine (Pinus pumila), is also included. Each syntaxon is presented with its diagnostic taxa list, distribution, and habitat conditions. Synonyms: Roso acicularis–Laricion cajanderi Sinelnikova 2016 nom. inval. (3o, 5a). The current phytosociological diversity of dark coniferous forests in the region includes one order, three alliances, and 17 associations. In further development of the Vaccinio-Piceetea classification system, we propose dividing the azonal subalpine forests from the temperate zone and the zonal boreal forests into two orders: the order Abieti veitchii–Piceetalia jezoensis s. str. for the temperate zone in Japan and Korea, and a new order for the boreal zone. The order Vaccinio–Pinetalia pumilae Suzuki 1964, which includes the alliance Vaccinio–Pinion pumilae Suzuki 1964 and two associations, Vaccinio–Pinetum pumilae Maeda and Shimazaki ex Suzuki 1966, and Ledo–Pinetum pumilae Kobayashi 1967, unites communities dominated by Pinus pumila. The syntaxonomical concept of the order Vaccinio–Pinetalia pumilae was established based on vegetation data from Japan (Kobayashi, 1967; 1971) and should be updated with vegetation relevés from the Russian Far East.

Abstract:

Abstract:
We present a detailed nomenclatural analysis of the class names Carpino-Fagetea, Querco-Fagetea, Quercetea robori-sessiliflorae, Quercetea ilicis and Vaccinio-Piceetea. The current literature presents contradictory opinions about the legitimacy and correct author citation of these names, often motivated by deviating interpretations of the International Code of Phytosociological Nomenclature. This primarily concerns the provisions of Articles 2b, 3j, 3m and 35 which can be interpreted in quite different ways, leading to divergent conclusions on the validity and legitimacy of a name. Thus, the problems discussed in this paper are of general relevance for phytosociological nomenclature, highlighting the need for amendments and clarifications to be implemented in the next edition of the Code. Moreover, we suggest establishing a formal procedure to request a binding decision on specific cases to stabilise the interpretation of the Code.

Abstract:
The secondary birch and aspen forests of middle stages of succession of the central elevated part of the Southern Urals are studied. 4 subassociations, 1 community, and 7 variants in the alliances of Aconito-Piceion and Piceion excelsae are allocated. It is shown that the floristic composition of aspen and birch secondary forests in the age of 60—80 years is almost identical to the natural forests. However, a slight increase the coenotical role of light-requiring species of grasslands and hemiboreal forests in the secondary communities of the class Brachypodio-Betuletea was noticed as well as some reduction of role the shade-tolerant species of nemoral complex and species of boreal forests of the class Vaccinio-Piceetea. Dominant tree layer under the canopy of secondary series is marked by an active growth of natural tree species.

Abstract:
Results of a syntaxonomical study of the oligotrophic forests of northern European Russia are presented. The main forest types have been classified into 2 orders of the class Vaccinio-Piceetea, 4 alliances, 6 associations and 1 community. The new alliance Empetro-Piceion all. nov., which includes zonal spruce and birch northern forest association Empetro-Piceetum, has been established. These communities are formed according to cold temperature and high (sometimes temporarily) soil moisture and are characterized by the lower tree canopy, mosaic herb and moss-lichen layers with boreal mosses, sphagnum and lichens. In the middle taiga subzone these communities are replaced by Eu-Piceetum myrtilletosum. The forests with lichens are referred to order Cladonio-Vaccinietalia and divided into 4 associations. Lichen pine forests of the north-west of boreal zone were described as ass. Flavocetrario nivalis—Pinetum ass. nov. This association with a great number of lichens is differentiated by Cladonia arbuscula subsp. mitis, Flavocetraria nivalis, Cetraria ericetorum, Stereocaulon grande, Dicranum fuscescens, D. drummondii, Nephroma arcticum and species of Cladonia. The ass. Cadonio arbusculae—Pinetum (Caj. 1921) K.-Lund 1967 contains lichen pine forests with lower number of lichens and is distributed mostly in middle part of the taiga zone. The spruce-pine forests with mixed moss-lichen cover correspond to ass. Vaccinio-Pinetum. Ass. Hedysaro-Laricetum represents rich and well differentiated larch forests in the east of European Russia.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The long-term soil temperature monitoring in the area of more than 550 km in length within the region of Transbaikalia has been carried out. Sites for the monitoring were represented by the forest-steppe vegetation of different ecotopological and ecogeographical patterns. It was revealed that the dynamics of temperature regimens are highly synchronized reflecting the macroclimatic unity of the region. The sufficiently higher heat supply on the southerly exposed slopes comparing to northerly exposed ones was demonstrated. The distinctness between soil temperature regimens in different sites was revealed and attributed to the size of forested patches within the forest-steppe landscape, as well as discrepancies between eco-geographical features of sites along the sublatitudinal gradient. Differences between the vegetation types that occurred on the northern and southern slopes as well as between key sites scattered throughout the region were underlined. These differences are suggested to be connected with the spatial differentiation of the soil temperature. It was established that vegetation on the southern slopes is relatively more homogeneous being related to the single class Cleistogenetea squarrosae, while on the northern slopes plant communities related to three classes were developed, namely steppe class Cleistogenetea squarrosae, and two forest classes – Rhytidio-Laricetea and Vaccinio-Piceetea.

Abstract:
Продромус содержит 11 ассоциаций, отнесённых к трём классам растительности — Querco mongolicae-Betuletea davuricae Ermakov et Petelin in Ermakov 1997, Vaccinio myrtilli-Piceetea abietis Br.-Bl. in Braun-Blanquet et al. 1939, Vaccinietea uliginosi Tx. 1955 — из них четыре ассоциации предложены провизорно.
