Full textOur aim, through this thesis, is to study the creative power of time in contemporary cinema by comparing Tarr and Van Sant’s films. From an aesthetic standpoint, we will study the way these film makers promote different aspects of time, often considered negative – its slowness, repetition, silence and emptiness, and the embodiment of those aspects in waiting – to shift the viewer’s attention not towards the narration, but towards time, the raw material of the film, itself. They simultaneously explore another possibility for cinematographic art. Their purpose is to film time. However, how can time be filmed and made visible and tangible through films? This question, which is simultaneously theoretical, practical and sensorial and which is raised in each of their films, will guide us through this paper. The first part is dedicated to two interlinked portraits of Tarr and Van Sant to observe the progression of each in their socio-cultural context and the relationship they maintain in their artistic careers. In the second part, we will examine the link between time and the conception of reality, which is a central question in their work. Their attention to reality leads them to adopt a documentary practice, but only to build a fictional universe, creating a specific “reality” for each film by exploring a day-to-day existence dominated by silence, emptiness and repetition. The third and final part will highlight the inseparable link between time and the body. The experience of depression linked to that of loss is at the core of Tarr and Van Sant’s films. Analysing the psychic and mental problems of their characters will enable us to envisage other ways in which to experience and consider time

Full textUnderstanding the process leading to the construction of a city requires a multidisciplinary approach. Herein are included disciplines such as archeology, history, mathematics, geography and geomatic. The sources should be diverse (archaeological, written, tax, iconographic, planimetric) and the scales varied, from the house to the territory. The city of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val, whose development was closely related to the hydrographic network management, was the second largest city of Rouergue in the Late Middle Ages; it constitutes this research lab-area. With the example of this monastic town, a new methodology developed to study medieval urban phenomenon is provided. In order to perceive the dynamics of urban space over time, both medieval and modern tax sources, traditionally used for landscape study, are modeled as adjacency graphs of the plots. The comparison between the cadastral allotment of the Late Middle Ages and the XIXth century is achieved using the graph theory and its intersections with available archaeological data; it allows to approach the arrangement modalities of an urban area

Abstract: At the moment that, in Brazil, the formation of teachers for the early childhood education is discussed, this paper aims to reflect, along with teachers from a public school in Piracicaba, about the affection in education and the importance of the touch as a subject for the education of teachers who work in early childhood education. We tried to think on touch as an affective meeting between teachers and children. As a starting point, we sought to know the life trajectory of these teachers perceiving their training and their knowledge about the emotional relationships within the school spaces. To this end, this work focused on the experience of body awareness and understanding of the dimension of the touch, this language that is essential for human beings and essential in this trajectory. Self-contact and contact with others also allows reflecting on the role of the teacher who deals with babies and small children. Besides the body experiences, questionnaires and some tools of ethnography were used, such as interviews, observation and recording in a field notebook. Provide training to think and feel the body is necessary in order to convey that care for children. The experience of education and body care for teachers can assist their activities within the school spaces, allowing a more sensitive eyeing to childhood. With children still so small, different forms of language and interaction are necessary, not only writing or speaking. By rethinking the role and the education of teachers, it was possible to note the importance of providing opportunities that allow educators to approach to the various languages present in the children world.

Thanka is a Tibetan art tradition which consists of religious pictures that portrays several gods, goddesses and holy individuals from the Buddhist faith. The motives are strongly symbolist and strictly traditional. This work describes this occurrence in three parts were the first is taken from literature; I give here an account of the origin, the motives, the technique, the religious aspects and its place today. The second part includes interviews and the third part summarizes the working process in my self-made painting. The conclusion is that this art is very complex and time-demanding, and that its calm precision is contrasting to the Western stress. The knowledge about Thanka is possible to apply in several school subjects such as History, Religion and Art, because of its traditional emplacement in the Tibetan society.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of meteorological factors on dry matter production and partitioning processes in wetland taro (Colocasia esculenta var. esculenta). Two year-round experiments were conducted during November in 1993 to August in 1995 at at Taiwan Agriculture Research Institute (TARI). There are a total of twelve transplanting dates. Samples were randomly taken at one-month intervals starting at transplanting and ending at harvest. The total leaf area, leaf dry weight, petiole dry weight and corm dry wieght of each plant were measured. The climate data at TARI were also collected during experimental periods. The results showed that the development and growth of different plant parts of taro were changed with climatic variation under different transplanting dates. This can lead to significant difference in corm yield at harvest. Climatic variation also resulted in year-difference of plant growth of taro. Based on the partitioning coefficient of corm, base temperature of taro was calculted as 15.2 C from Reaumur''s heat unit model. Cumulative effective temperatures during the growth periods for each transplanting dates were then estimated. Combined all the data under twelve transplanting dates, the spline models for regressing partitioning coefficients on cumulative effective temperature were developed. From the spline regression analysis, revealed that the corm would be the only sink of current assimilate when cumulative effective temperature reached 1642.6 C. Eestimated values of partitioning coefficients of current assimilate for leaf, petiole and corm at different time scales of cumulative effective temperature were obtained from the spline regression models. To devide the growth periods of taro under different transplanting dates, different intervals of 100, 150, 200 C of cumulative effective temperature were used as ime scales. Whichever time scales, there were no significant correlation between crop growth rate and ten climatic factors, as well as betweem corm north rate and ten climatic factors. Thus, futher experimental efforts might be needed.
