The high specific stiffness and strength of composites makes it advantageous for load carrying structures in the automotive industry. By successfully be able to numerically simulate the crush behaviour of composites, structure with high specific energy absorption can be implemented in the automotive industry. The purpose of this thesis is to verify the predictive capabilities of a crush model developed at SICOMP. Initially currently available material models are investigated. Puck’s criterion is deeper studied. An improvement of the criterion is suggested and the model is updated to be able to output fracture angles in Abaqus.The material model developed by SICOMP is a three-dimensional physically based damage model where failure initiation is estimated with proven failure criteria and damage growth is combined with friction to account for the right energy absorption. The crush damage model has been implemented in Abaqus/Explicit as a VUMAT subroutine. Numerical predictions are compared with experimental results. Specimens with different fibre layups and crash triggers are tested.

A brief history is provided of Aphasia testing. The test batteries published since 1947 are described under the following formal headings: theory and classification, organisation, quantification, charting and interpretation, and standardisation and factor analyses. A component analysis of the forty aphasia test batteries is conducted. The most frequently used subtests are identified and divided into subgroups of tests, tests of auditory comprehension, oral language, naming, reading comprehension, speech production, written language and non-language tasks. The fifty most frequently used subtests are then applied to a group of normal elderly people to establish baseline norms. Then 108 diagnosed aphasic patients are subjected to these same tests, and the results analysed. The patient data, the normal data and the tests thelllSelves are examined. Xethods of analysis include factor analYSiS, discriminant analysis and cluster analysis. Analysis of variance is applied to the elderly normal subj ects and the aphasic patients, as well as to the aphasic patients on repeated measures. Conclusions are then drawn about how effective the most frequently used subtests in aphasia batteries are in identifying the degree and type of language disturbance in aphasic patients.

Depuis quelques années, des chercheurs s’intéressent aux manifestations de la psychopathie dans la population générale. La nature froide, manipulatrice et antisociale des personnes qui en souffrent (Paulhus & Williams, 2002) se manifeste par des comportements de violence conjugale (Costa & Babcock, 2008), d’infidélité (Egan & Angus, 2004) et de coercition sexuelle (Williams, Spidel, & Paulhus, 2005) associés à des formes graves de détresse conjugale (Han, Weed, & Butcher, 2003). Jusqu’à présent, le Levenson Primary and Secondary Psychopathy scales (LPSP; Levenson, Kiehl, & Fitzpatrick, 1995) constitue le seul instrument de mesure de la psychopathie infra clinique disponible en langue française. Or, un autre questionnaire autorapporté, le Self-Report Psychopathy Scale-III, (SRP-III; Paulhus, Hemphill, & Hare, sous presse) possède de bonnes propriétés psychométriques en langue anglaise et comble des lacunes du LPSP (Williams, Paulhus, & Hare, 2007). Sa validation en langue française est susceptible de fournir un outil de recherche et de dépistage fondé empiriquement. Les résultats obtenus démontrent que la validation préliminaire de la version française du SRP-III présente une structure factorielle similaire à celle de la Psychopathy Checklist Revised (PCL-R; Neumann, Hare et Newman, 2007), l’entrevue diagnostique de la psychopathie reconnue comme étalon dans le domaine. The quantities which have been validated were aerodynamic criteria presented in the below parts. This study was done in order to improve the method and tools of the Airbus Helicopters Aerodynamic Department. The modeling has been improved during this study in order to make the computations results closer to the wind tunnel tests results.

This study aims to validate a screw joint simulation model used by BAE Systems in LS-DYNA during blast simulations. It is important that the screw joint simulation model is physically correct, since the simulation results can influence major design decisions. The study provides a short overview on the subject of bolts and screws, material deformation and stress and strain in materials, of the finite element method (FEM) and on some specific numerical methods used in this study. BAE Systems started a validation project of the screw joint simulation model in 2015, but it was not finished due to other priorities. In this older project some drop-tower tests measuring the axial force in a screw joint were conducted. These old tests can now serve as validation data for the screw joint simulation model. The screw joint simulation model used by BAE Systems is dependent on a special kind of finite element formulation; a so called beam element. This study provides a finite element analysis on this simulation model, which is implemented through an established industry FEM solver called LS-DYNA. The validation of the screw joint simulation model is done against three drop-tower experiments performed at 900, 1000 and 1100mm drop height respectively. The drop-tower experiments were replicated in LS-DYNA, with a prescribed velocity on the falling parts rather than simulating a free fall and non-elastic impact. A comparison between the simulation model using beam elements, that is used by BAE Systems, and a similar simulation model using solid elements is presented as part of the validation. To make sure that the result of the study is confident, a local mesh convergence study and a study of the mass scaling numerical method in LS-DYNA is also presented. The results show that the screw joint simulation model using beam elements is valid according to the available experimental data. In one of the experiments, where the drop-test was performed twice, an average maximum force on the screw was measured to be 33.5+-4.8 kN. Simulations of the same case, under the same conditions, using beam elements resulted in a maximum force on the screw of 35.4 kN, well within the experimental result range. In the other two drop-tower experiments, the simulated results showed correlation considering the error sources in the simulation model and the statistical spread that is present in the experimental results. The simulation model using beam elements is also similar to the results using solid elements, which also indicates that the beam model is valid. All in all, it is shown that the beam model can be used to produce safe results that either overestimate or place the simulations of the axial force in the screw in the upper spread of the measurements.

Le Pathological Narcissistic Inventory (PNI) est une mesure développée récemment permettant de rendre compte de deux phénotypes du narcissisme pathologique soit la grandiosité ainsi que la vulnérabilité narcissique. Dans cette étude, une adaptation francophone du PNI (le ENP) a été développée puis validée auprès de deux échantillons de la population soit normal ainsi que clinique. Les résultats ont permis de démontrer des associations congruentes à celles obtenues par l’équipe de Pincus et ses collaborateurs (2009) quant à la version originale. Ainsi, le ENP a démontré des associations positives avec deux autres mesures du narcissisme (le NPI et le HSNS). Des associations significatives avec divers autres mesures normalement associées au narcissisme pathologique ont également été détectées (estime de soi, machiavélisme et indices d’organisation limite de la personnalité). Des différences significatives entre l’échantillon normal et clinique ont pu être mesurées ainsi qu’une utilisation indifférenciée à travers les genres semble possible.

This study developed and validated the Berke Prenatal Anxiety Questionnaire, created to measure prenatal anxiety. Scores from 301 pregnant women in various stages of pregnancy were used to determine the internal consistency of the Berke Prenatal Anxiety Questionnaire. These women were recruited in obstetric offices and hospitals across California. Coefficient alpha for the total scale was.87. Factor analysis showed that the items did not really cluster together in three groups as expected. Two approaches were undertaken to develop a new definition, in order to revise the scale. Three one-way ANOVA with trimester of pregnancy as the between subjects variable were calculated on the total scale and revised scales scores from the questionnaire and no significant differences were found. This questionnaire needs additional validation though the creation of new items characterizing the revised definitions. Eventually, in a revised form, this questionnaire can be used in additional research and in a clinical setting to identify pregnant women experiencing high levels of maladaptive prenatal anxiety. Efforts could then be made to reduce their anxiety, which can benefit both the mother and her infant.

Aujourd’hui, de nombreux grands industriels de différents domaines se sont lancés dans la conception de produits intelligents pour répondre aux nouveaux besoins du marché. La conception de ces systèmes est de plus en plus complexe, puisqu’ils sont composés de nombreux composants physiques pouvant être contrôlés par des applications s'exécutant sur des processeurs. Afin d'assister cette conception multi-disciplines, la solution que nous proposons dans cette thèse est de diriger la modélisation et la conception du système par la prise en compte des scénarios de test qui devront être utilisés pour valider ses exigences. La méthode préconisée suggère de raisonner au niveau système et de commencer le processus de conception par la formalisation des tests de validation. En d'autres termes, il s'agit en particulier de préciser le(s) critère(s) d’acceptation de l’exigence ainsi que le scénario de test nécessaire pour le(s) vérifier. Formaliser ainsi les tests permet notamment d'analyser la formulation des exigences elles-mêmes et d'y lever toute ambiguïté. Nous proposons un modèle générique de la vue structurelle de l'infrastructure de test, et un profil UML associé. La vue comportementale est modélisée sous forme de diagrammes de séquences SysML. Les interfaces de l'infrastructure de test fournissent des contraintes de testabilité pour le système à concevoir. Nous avons développé un outil, ARES (Automatic geneRation of Executable tests from SysML), qui transforme automatiquement cette spécification structurelle/comportementale des tests en scénarios simulables ou exécutables. Ceux-ci, analogues par construction, seront utilisés pour valider des modèles simulables du système (Matlab/Simulink) puis lors du processus de vérification finale du produit (avec un environnement TestStand). Nous présentons l'application de cet outil sur diverses études de cas associées à des produits Schneider Electric<br>Nowadays, many major manufacturers in different fields are working towards the design of smart products to meet new market needs. The design of these systems is increasingly complex, as they are composed of many physical components controlled by applications running on processors. In order to support this multi-disciplinary design, the solution we propose in this thesis is to guide the system modeling and design by taking into account the test scenarios that will be used to validate its requirements. The method that we propose suggests reasoning at the system level and starting the design process by formalizing validation tests. In other words, it amounts to specifying the acceptance criterion(s) for the requirement as well as the test scenario necessary to verify it. Formalizing the tests in this way makes it possible to analyze the formulation of the requirements themselves and to remove any ambiguity. We propose a generic model of the structural view of the test infrastructure, and an associated UML profile. The behavioral view is modeled as SysML sequence diagrams. The test infrastructure interfaces provide testability constraints for the system to be designed. We have developed a tool, ARES (Automatic GeneRation of Executable Tests from SysML), which automatically transforms this structural/behavioral specification of the tests into simulatable or executable scenarios. These scenarios, analogous by construction, will be used to validate simulatable models of the system (Matlab/Simulink), then during the process of final verification of the product (with a TestStand environment). Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) is the internationally recognized measure of a person's cardiorespiratory fitness. Currently the most accurate way of assessing one's true VO2max involves the use of maximal exercise tests, which require the use of specialized equipment, and are time consuming and costly. The purpose of this study was to determine the validity of the submaximal Siconolfi step test to estimate VO2max. A second purpose was to determine if body fat percentage improved the validity. Thirty-six individuals underwent a maximal treadmill test, in which VO2max was directly measured, and the step test. Results indicate that, although VO2max estimates generated by the Siconolfi step test are highly correlated to true VO2max (r =.887; p<.01), the values consistently underestimated a person's aerobic fitness. It was also determined that body fat percentage did not contribute to the prediction of VO2max.

Mental health recovery is a complex phenomenon involving clinical, functional, physical, and social dimensions. The social dimension is understood to involve meaningful relationships and integration with supportive individuals and a wider community. While the recovery model developed from a movement led by consumers and survivors of the mental health system to promote hope, self-determination, and social inclusion, the clinical aspects of recovery have dominated mental health research and practice. The under-investigated area of social recovery calls for psychometrically sound measurement instruments. The purpose of the current study was to develop and validate the Social Recovery Measure (SRM). The study was grounded in disability and mad theories which locate disability at the intersection of the person and the environment. The SRM is a 19-item self-administered instrument scored on a 5-point Likert scale that consists of two domains: Self and Community.
Items for the SRM were developed through focus groups and interviews with 41 individuals in recovery from mental health challenges and the preliminary measure was administered to a purposive, nonprobability sample of 228 individuals in recovery. A confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted and a re-specified model resulted in good model fit. The SRM exhibited excellent internal consistency with a Cronbach's coefficient alpha of .951 and demonstrated excellent test-retest reliability, content validity, and construct validity.
Social recovery is highly relevant for social work given the discipline's commitment to disenfranchised populations and investment in creating enabling environments. The SRM has utility for use in evidence based practice and evaluation. The SRM can be used to further research in social recovery, test underlying theory bases, and explore the differential effects of the multiple dimensions of recovery. There is a need to better understand social recovery which this measure can facilitate.

Le but de ce travail est de proposer une démarche de validation d'un nouveau type d'instrument d'évaluation intellectuelle. Une étude de contenu permet d'abord d'évaluer la correspondance entre le type d'items proposés dans la version expérimentale du Test d'Aptitudes Informatisé (T.A.I.) et ceux trouvés dans les tests d'intelligence traditionnels. Bien que le T.A.I. mesure des construits déjà bien établis pour la mesure de l'intelligence, l'utilisation de l'informatique permet d'introduire de nouvelles stratégies d'évaluation des aptitudes. Les étapes de validation sont exposées et une étude exploratoire est réalisée auprès de trente adolescents. Une analyse des corrélations montre un portrait comparable à ce qu'on retrouve dans les tests d'intelligence générale. Par ailleurs, les informations recueillies soulignent l'importance de tenir compte de certains facteurs liés à la présentation informatisée d'un test pouvant influencer le rendement à celui-ci

Le construit du narcissisme a reçu un intérêt considérable dans le domaine de la psychologie. Les travaux empiriques et cliniques, selon une approche dimensionnelle de la personnalité, ont contribué à la compréhension et à la conceptualisation du narcissisme normal et pathologique. Deux principaux phénotypes du narcissisme pathologique sont identifiés (grandiose et vulnérable). De cette conceptualisation multidimensionnelle découle certains instruments de mesure dont l’O’Brien Multiphasic Narcissism Inventoy (OMNI). Ce mémoire doctoral vise à procéder à la validation francophone de l’OMNI auprès d’un échantillon de 201 étudiants francophones. Ces derniers ont complété plusieurs instruments qui mesuraient le narcissisme et l’estime de soi. Les résultats obtenus ne permettent pas de répliquer le modèle à trois facteurs de la version originale, ni de proposer une autre structure factorielle satisfaisante. Les indices de fidélité et la fidélité test-retest sont assez faibles sauf pour l’échelle totale. Plusieurs éléments de réflexion sont proposés et discutés.

L'oggetto della tesi è la modellazione numerica di pali di fondazione per turbine eoliche in ambiente offshore.
Il metodo di modellazione comprende l'interpretazione di prove CPT per l'estrapolazione dei parametri geotecnici del terreno, la creazione di un modello dell'interazione tra struttura e terreno tramite il software agli elementi finiti Abaqus, la sua verifica, l'ottimizzazione dell'estensione del modello del terreno e della mesh e la simulazione numerica del comportamento di pali caricati assialmente in compressione.
Grazie al confronto con i risultati di test su modelli fisici, eseguiti nel laboratorio dell'istituto Fraunhofer IWES di Hannover, di tre pali aventi la stessa geometria ma installati in punti con diverse condizioni di compattazione della sabbia, è stata possibile la messa a punto di una strategia di simulazione più accurata possibile e la sua validazione.
A conclusione del lavoro è stato eseguito un esempio di design di una fondazione jacket per una turbina eolica offshore.

La présente étude s’intéresse à la validation d’une version francophone du Pathological Narcissism Inventory (PNI; Pincus et al., 2009), l’Échelle de Narcissisme Pathologique (ENP; Diguer, 2010), développée par Louis Diguer et son équipe en 2010. L’ENP est d’abord administrée à 1172 étudiants et membres du personnel de l’Université Laval afin d’en évaluer la validité interne. Des analyses factorielles exploratoires et une analyse parallèle suggèrent que l’ENP présente une structure à sept facteurs, à l’image de son analogue anglophone, le PNI. L’analyse de la stabilité temporelle montre que l’échelle totale de l’ENP est fidèle dans le temps (r = 0,86). L’ENP présente également une excellente consistance interne (0,95). Cette première étude de validation suggère que l’ENP pourrait être utilisée auprès d’une population francophone.

Parmi leurs nombreuses fonctions, la protection du produit est le principal rôle des systèmes d’emballage. Ils doivent alors résister aux différentes contraintes apparaissant au cours des circuits de distribution. Parmi ces contraintes se distinguent les phénomènes de vibrations aléatoires et les phénomènes transitoires. Ce travail de thèse propose une contribution à l’analyse de ces phénomènes ainsi qu’une amélioration de leur simulation en laboratoire d’essai. Les vibrations aléatoires correspondant à des signaux de processus non gaussiens, il a été proposé une procédure de décomposition de leur distribution en somme de Gaussiennes pondérées. Cette décomposition appliquée à un enregistrement de transport réel permet d’obtenir une distribution des niveaux d’accélération quasiment identique à la réalité et ce avec les moyens de test actuels. Cette méthode a été appliquée au calcul de dommage sur un système d’emballage académique. L’étude des phénomènes transitoires et leur simulation ont été menées à l’aide des spectres de réponse au choc (SRC). Une différence de répartition fréquentielle est constatée entre les signaux excitation et réponse d’un système soumis à deux évènements transitoires de même SRC. L’intégrité d’un système d’emballage subissant des chocs a été étudiée à partir d’une courbe γ-N adaptée permettant d’estimer le dommage généré par un évènement transitoire. Ces résultats, obtenus expérimentalement et par simulation numérique, demanderont à l’avenir d’être confirmés en les appliquant à la caractérisation de différents systèmes d’emballage<br>Among their many functions, product protection is the main role of packaging systems. They must then withstand the various constraints occurring throughout distribution networks. Among these constraints are random vibration phenomena and transient phenomena. This thesis work proposes a contribution to the analysis of these phenomena as well as an improvement of their simulation in test laboratories. As random vibrations correspond to non-Gaussian process signals, a procedure of decomposition of their distribution into a sum of weighted Gaussian has been proposed. When applied to a real transport record and with the current test equipment, this decomposition provides a distribution of acceleration levels almost identical to the actual distribution. This method has been applied to the damage calculation of an academic packaging system. The study of transient phenomena and their simulation were conducted using the shock response spectra (SRS). There is a difference in frequency distribution between the excitation signal and the response signal of a system subjected to two transient events of same SRS. The wholeness of a shock-sustaining packaging system has been studied from an adapted γ-N curve which enables the estimation of damage caused by a transient event. In the future these results, obtained experimentally and by a numerical simulation, will require to be confirmed by applying them to the characterization of different packaging systems

Ce travail a porté sur la traduction et la validation du questionnaire de Cloninger TCI (Temperament and Character Inventory) en français, en vue de son utilisation en clinique et en recherche psychiatrique. Nous rapportons notamment les résultats de plusieurs études de validation effectuées dans différents types de population : - une étude de validation en population générale portant sur un échantillon de 602 sujets, fournissant des valeurs normatives et des données sur la validité interne du questionnaire ; - une étude de validation en population clinique portant sur 593 patients ; - deux études de la stabilité temporelle du TCI, l'une en population non clinique et l'autre chez des patients psychiatriques ; - une étude de validation d'une version informatisée du TCI réalisé chez 32 patients ; - une étude clinique utilisant le TCI dans un échantillon de 79 patients toxicomanes ; - une autre étude clinique utilisant le TCI dans un échantillon de 178 patients souffrant de phobie sociale. De ces différents travaux, il ressort que la version française présente globalement les mêmes qualités psychométriques que la version originale, et donc une bonne validité. Les points plus faibles, qui pourraient être améliorés, concernant la structure des dimensions "Dépendance à la récompense" et "Persistance", ainsi que la pertinence du concept de "Transcendance". En comparaison avec l'autre modèle dimensionnel de personnalité actuellement prévalent, la modèle à cinq facteurs, le modèle de Cloninger semble moins bien structuré au plan psychométrique, probablement en raison de sa construction basée sue des hypothèses "a priori" et non sur des analyses factorielles. Cependant, et en dehors de son intérêt clinique, le TCI est un outil dont l'utilité pour la recherche en psychiatrie biologique, notamment génétique, est désormais bien démontrée<br>We present various validation studies of the French version of the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) developed by Cloninger, in order to use this model in clinical practice and in psychiatric research : - a validation study in a 602-subject community sample representative of the French population, providing normative values and data on the internal validity of the questionnaire ; - the same type of validation study in a clinical sample of 593 patients ; - two studies on the temporal stability of the TCI, one in non-clinical population and the other among psychiatric patients ; - a validation study of a computerized version of the TCI carried out in 32 patients ; - a clinical study using the TCI in a sample of 178 patients suffering from social phobia. From these various studies, it comes out that the French version has similar psychometric properties as the original version, and thus an acceptable validity. The weaker points, which could be improved, concern the structure of the dimensions Reward Dependence and Persistence, as well as the relevance of the concept of Self-Transcendence. In comparison with the other dimensional personality model currently use, the five factor model, the TCI seems less robust. However, and apart from its clinical interest, this questionnaire is an interesting tool for biological research in psychiatry, especially for genetic studies on personality

Le test de logiciel apparaît aujourd'hui comme le moyen principal pour la validation du fonctionnement d'un programme. Les travaux présentés au cours de cette thèse s'articulent autour de trois contributions qui se concentrent sur certaines spécificités de la programmation et de la conception orientée objet pour l'étude de solutions particulières pour le test d'un composant. La qualité des cas de test étant un facteur important pour une validation efficace, le premier point concerne l'étude d'algorithmes évolutionnistes pour la génération automatique de cas de test pour un composant. Nous nous intéressons ensuite à l'impact de la conception par contrat sur deux aspects du test d'un assemblage de composants : la détection et la localisation d'erreur. Enfin, certaines configurations sont identifiées sur un diagramme de classes, comme difficiles à tester, et des solutions sont proposées pour résoudre ces problèmes dés la conception et éviter ainsi d'implanter un programme peu testable.

The purpose of this study was to develop and conduct initial validation of a special MMPI scale for the detection of bulimia. Existing measures all contain content-obvious items that require the individual to self-disclose regarding their bulimia symptomatology. Such measures are not effective in identifying those reluctant or unwilling to self-disclose. A measure which utilizes nonobvious items would be useful in identifying those undetected by other measures. The MMPI item pool was utilized to develop such a nonobvious measure. A number of treatment centers were contacted to solicit MMPI response sheets and diagnostic and demographic information from existing client files. A random 80% subsample was drawn from the total sample with the remaining 20% reserved for cross-validation analyses.Item analysis and discriminant analysis were conducted to identify items which differentiated between criterion and comparison groups. The 31 items chosen by these analyses became the B-scale. The bulimic individuals were found to be differentiated from those in the comparison groups by significantly higher scores on the new B-scale Two-way cross-classification frequency analysis established a cutoff score of 21. Through evaluation of K-scale corrections it was determined that such correction did not add to the accuracy of the B-scale and is, therefore, unnecessary.The discriminant validity of the B-scale was then examined. Discriminant function analysis established the B-scale as a better predictor of group membership than the existing clinical scales. In addition, the existing clinical scales were not found to add significantly to prediction when compared with the B-scale alone. Cross-validation analyses were conducted on the independent 20% random sample, demonstrating that the B-scale effectively identifies bulimics when applied to a new sample. Ce travail vise à la prédiction par simulation numérique des distorsions et contraintes résiduelles générées par une opération de soudage. Le cas particulier du soudage TIG sur acier 316L est considéré. Afin d'étudier de façon progressive les difficultés de modélisation qui doivent être pris en compte dans le cadre de la simulation numérique du soudage, une étude à la fois expérimentale et numérique est effectuée sur différents types d'essais de complexité croissante, allant d'un cas test uniaxial jusqu'à un cas test entièrement tridimensionnel. En premier lieu, des tests unidimensionnels sont effectués sur des spécimens pour lesquels les champs de température et de contraintes sont macroscopiquement homogènes dans la zone d'étude. Ce type de tests, très utile en vue de valider différentes lois de comportement, permet en outre l'étude du comportement thermomécanique de l'acier lorsque celui-ci est soumis à des cycles thermiques similaires à ceux qui interviennent dans la Zone Affectée Thermiquement lors d'une opération de soudage. Après quoi, des tests qui mettent en jeu des gradients de températures et de contraintes sont effectués sur des structures bi-dimensionnelles axi-symétriques, afin d'étudier les effets de structure et les problèmes liés à la présence d'une zone fondue. Enfin, un test plus représentatif d'une véritable opération de soudage, faisant intervenir une source de chaleur mobile, intègre les effets tridimensionnels. Des simulations numériques, conformes aux essais réalisés, sont réalisés en parallèle avec le logiciel d'éléments finis code_Aster (EDF). L'analyse comparative entre résultats expérimentaux et numériques pour chaque type de test permet de juger de l'aptitude du code de calcul utilisé à prédire distorsions et contraintes résiduelles, et des analyses paramétriques permettent d'étudier la sensibilité des résultats aux données matériau, à la loi de comportement utilisée, ou encore à la modélisation de l'apport de chaleur<br>The aim of this study is the prediction with numerical simulation of residual stresses and distortions generated by the welding process. The special case of the TIG welding process on 316L steel is considered. In order to investigate phenomena and difficulties that must be taken into account for the numerical simulation of the welding process, a parallel experimental and numerical study is carried out on different kind of tests, of increasing complexity, from one dimensional to three-dimensional. As first step, one-dimensional tests are led on round bar specimen for which temperatures and stresses are macroscopically homogeneous in the studied zone. These tests investigate the thermo-mechanical behavior of the steel, when submitted to thermal cycles similar to those that occur in the Heat Affected Zone during welding. This kind of test is also very useful for the validation of different constitutive equations. As second step, axi-symmetrical tests are led on simplified structures in order to investigate the structure effect and problems due to the presence of a weld pool. Lastly, a test more representative of a real welding operation, which involves a moving heat source, integrates the three-dimensional effect. In parallel, numerical simulations are performed for each test, using the finite element code code_Aster (EDF). Comparative analysis between experimental and numerical results allows the assessment of the ability of the numerical code to predict residual stresses and distortions, and parametric analysis allow us to investigate the sensitivity of numerical results to material characteristic data, constitutive equation, or modeling of the heat input

Les béta-lactamines sont les antibiotiques préférentiellement utilisés contre les bactéries Gram négatif responsables d’infections. La dissémination mondiale d’organismes produisant des béta-lactamases à spectre élargi (BLSE) ou des carbapénémases est une préoccupation générale ainsi qu’une menace économique.Parmi ces organismes, les Entérobactéries jouent un rôle important dans les infections nosocomiales (ainsi que les infections communautaires pour E. coli). L’émergence et la dissémination d’Entérobactéries productrices de BLSE (E-BLSE), exprimant principalement des béta-lactamases de la famille des CTX-Ms, et dans une mesure plus inquiétante de carbapénémases (EPC), principalement les enzymes NDM, KPC, IMP, VIM et OXA-48, sont sans le moindre doute un problème de santé publique majeur.Les CTX-Ms hydrolysent les céphalosporines à large spectre et sont les BLSEs principalement rencontrées chez les Entérobactéries lors d’infections urinaires communautaires, mais aussi les bactériémies à E. coli qui peuvent en découler. Ces infections sévères sont traitées avec des carbapénèmes, considérés comme les antibiotiques de dernier recours. Malheureusement, leur utilisation croissante à soumis les entérobactéries à une pression de sélection conduisant à de plus en plus de souches montrant une sensibilité réduite aux carbapénèmes pouvant aboutir à un échec thérapeutique.Si l’on considère les possibilités de traitement limitées pour les E-BLSEs, que les EPCs sont souvent résistantes à plusieurs si ce n’est toutes les classes d’antibiotiques, et que pour certaines peu ou pas de traitements antibiotiques sont disponibles, leur rapide détection et identification sont essentielles. Des tests fiables sont nécessaires pour aider les cliniciens à, rapidement mettre en place des mesures de contrôle de ces infections, adapter les traitements antibiotiques et optimiser les stratégies de soins et leur issue favorable.Lors de la détection des E-BLSEs et des EPCs, il est aussi crucial d’identifier la béta-lactamase impliquée pour la mise en place d’une thérapie adaptée. Les méthodes basées sur la spécificité des anticorps sont sans aucun doute parmi les plus appropriées pour atteindre cet objectif.Pour répondre aux besoins actuels, les méthodes de détection des résistances ont antibiotiques doivent être peu coûteuses (coûts réduits des consommables et des équipements) et facile à mettre en place (technicité faible) pour l’utilisateur. C’est pourquoi nous avons décidé de développer des tests immunochromatographiques qui répondent parfaitement à ce cahier des charges. Pour atteindre cet objectif, nous avons produit des anticorps monoclonaux dirigés contre les CTX-Ms, et les familles de carbapénémases NDM, KPC, et OXA-48. Les tests immuno-chromatographiques correspondants ont été développés et validés. Nos tests sont robustes, facilement transférables dans une version commerciale et stables pour 24 mois sans réfrigération. Ils sont conviviaux, performants en termes de spécificité et sensibilité, et peu couteux, de 7€ (pour un mono-test) à moins de 15€ (pour un multiplex). De plus les résultats sont obtenus dans un court délai sans la nécessité d’un équipement particulier pour la lecture. Nous avons validé un mono-test pour la détection des CTX-Ms du groupe 1, et évalué la détection des groupes 1, 2, 8 et 9 directement dans des échantillons cliniques comme les hémocultures ou l’urine. Des mono-tests pour la détection des NDMs, KPCs et des OXA-48 et un multiplex pour la détection simultanée des cinq principales carbapénémases ont également été validés. Pour ce faire, nous avons utilisés 180 souches isolées sur boites, provenant du Centre National de Référence pour la résistance aux carbapénémases chez les Entérobactéries, dont le contenu en béta-lactamase est caractérisé<br>Beta-lactams are antibiotics preferentially used against gram-negative bacilli infections. The worldwide spread of extended spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL) or carbapenemase-producing organisms is a global concern and also an economic threat.Within those organisms, Enterobacteriaceae have a major role as causes of nosocomial infections (and, for E. coli, also of community-acquired infections). The emergence and dissemination of ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae (ESBL-E), mainly expressing beta-lactamases from the CTX-M family, and in a worrier aspect of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE), mainly NDM, KPC, IMP, VIM and OXA-48 like enzymes, are undoubtedly a matter of great public health concern.CTX-Ms hydrolyze broad-spectrum cephalosporins and are the most encountered BLSE in Enterobacteriaceae, and CTX-Ms producers have been reported as the most prevalent ESBL producers in community-onset urinary tract infections (UTIs). Moreover, CTX-M-producing E.coli are a major cause of bloodstream infections that are often secondary to UTIs. These severe infections are treated with carbapenems, considered as last resort antibiotics. Unfortunately, their increasing use put a selective pressure on Enterobacteriaceae, leading to more and more strains showing decreased susceptibility to carbapenems and potentially leading to therapeutic failure.Considering the limited treatment options for ESBL-E and that CPE are often resistant to several if not all classes of antibiotics, and for which very few (or no) antibiotic options remain available, their rapid detection and identification are essential. Reliable tests are needed to help physicians, to quickly provide appropriate infection control measures, to adapt rapidly antibiotic treatment and optimize care strategies and outcomes.While detecting ESBL-Es or EPCs, it is also crucial to identify the implicated beta-lactamase for accurate therapy implementation. To do so, the antibody-specificity based methods are undoubtedly appropriate. To respond to the current needs, antimicrobial drug resistance detection methods must be cheap (reduced costs of consumables and equipment) and easy to use (reduced technical complexity) for the end user, and LFIAs respond to this requirements. Our objective was to develop such tests, and this led us to produce monoclonal antibodies against CTX-Ms, NDM, KPC, IMP, VIM and OXA-48 carbapenemase families and to develop and validate the corresponding LFIAs. Our tests are robust assays, easily transferable in a commercialized version, stable for more than 24 months without refrigeration, user-friendly (no requirement of trained staff), high performance (sensitive and specific), low cost, from 7€ (monotest) to less than 15€ (multiplex). Moreover, the detection results are obtained in short delay without the need for highly technical equipment for the readout.Here, we validated a LFIA for the detection of CTX-Ms (from group 1) and to a wider extent evaluated the direct detection of CTX-Ms from groups 1, 2, 8 and 9 in clinical samples such as blood culture and urine. Mono-tests to detect NDMs and OXA-48-like, and a multiplex for the simultaneous detection of the five main carbapenemases were also validated. These validations were conducted using 180 well characterized isolates in terms of their -lactamase content from the French National Reference Centre for carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae

Thesis (MMed)--University of Stellenbosch, 2004.<br>ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Numerous tests exist for the assessment of general cognitive functioning. Most of these tests
were developed within the discipline of psychology. Neuropsychological tests are very useful,
but have some limitations. Administration of the tests is limited to a psychologist, is very timeconsuming
in that it can take 3-8 hours to administer and often need specialized equipment.
At the other end of the continuum are very brief screening tests. General practitioners,
psychiatrists and occupational therapists, in addition to psychologists, also use these tests.
Although useful, the short tests only provide limited information. An intermediate level test
streamlining the assessment process between the very short and longer neuropsychological
tests is therefore introduced by this study.
The Bedside Cognitive Assessment Battery (BCAB) was developed in 1995 and are since
used, at Tygerberg Hospital's Memory Clinic, to assess patients and teach students. The test
comprehensively assesses the six main classes of cognitive functioning, namely attention
and concentration, speech, memory, motor functioning, perceptual functioning and executive
functioning. Approximately 35-45 minutes is required for administration and training is
needed to administer the BCAB. No specialized equipment is needed for administration. The
battery can therefore be used at the bedside, in the office or at old age homes.
The aims of this study were to validate the BCAB for use with people aged eighteen years
and older, and provide normative values for use in clinical settings. The test was revised in
1997 and 2001, and extensively so in 2002, but was never formally evaluated for validity.
Well-known single tests were used to compile the BCAB. Most of these tests have proven
validity and reliability, but only for foreign populations. In addition, some items were
reformulated and others created by the researchers. The introduction of normative values
would also be useful to assist in the delineation of cognitively intact and impaired individuals.
This study succeeded in providing a table of normative values.
One-hundred-and-sixty Afrikaans and English participants, and fourteen Xhosa participants
were assessed in their mother tongue language. This project thus also introduced a Xhosa
version of the BCAB. The purpose of the Xhosa version was to address the lack of culturally
relevant cognitive assessment instruments. Results were evaluated for the effects of the
variables' language, gender, age and education. The effect of language was most noticeable
in the Xhosa group. Gender did not affect results as dramatically as age and especially,
education. These significant effects on the aforementioned variables have been described in previous reports. The BCAB is thus relevant and useful as a detector of mild to moderate
impairment. It can also be used to identify specific impairment. This can narrow down the
investigation of psychologists, thus saving time and money. In addition, medical and nonmedical
staff can use the BCAB.
Some limitations were also identified. The sample used may limit the generalization of
results. Some test items also need revision, along with further validation studies. Clinicians
are therefore advised to use the BCAB only in addition to complete clinical examinations
when making decisions regarding a patient's cognitive status. The BCAB appears to be a
valid tool for bedside assessment. However, this study could only set the stage for further
research, especially studies concerned with establishing normative values.<br>AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Verskeie toetse bestaan vir die evaluering van algemene kognitiewe funksionering, waarvan
die meeste ontwikkel is binne die sielkunde. Neuro-sielkundige toetse is baie bruikbaar, maar
het sekere beperkings. Administrasie van die toetse is beperk tot sielkundiges, maar
tydrowend weens 'n tydsduur van drie tot agt uur, en verg dikwels gespesialiseerde
toerusting. Aan die ander kant is heelwat kart siftings-toetse beskikbaar. Aigemene
praktisyns, sielkundiges en arbeidsterapeute, asook sielkundiges, gebruik dit. Hoewel

evaluerings-proses tussen kart en langer neuro-sielkundige toetse te integreer word met
hierdie studie beoog.
Die Bedkant Kognitiewe Evaluasie Battery (BKEB) is in 1995 ontwikkel en gebruik in die
Geheue-kliniek van die Tygerberg Hospitaal om pasiente te evalueer en studente op te lei.
Die toets is gerig op die omvattende evaluering van die ses hoof-klasse van kognitiewe
funksionering. Hierdie klasse omvat aandag en konsentrasie, spraak, geheue, motoriese
funksionering, perseptuele funksionering en uitvoerende funksionering. Sowat 35 tot 45
minute word benodig vir administrasie terwyl opleiding vereis word vir die neem van die
toets. Geen gespesialiseerde toerusting is nodig nie. Die battery kan dus by die bedkant, in
die kantoor of in ouetehuise gebruik word.
Die doelwitte van hierdie studie is om die BKEB te evalueer in gebruik by 18-jariges en ouer,
en normatiewe waardes te bepaal vir gebruik in kliniese omgewings. Die toets is in 1997 en
2001 hersien. In 2002 is dit uitvoerig hersien, maar nooit ge-evalueer vir geldigheid nie.
Bekende enkel-toetse is gebruik am die BKEB saam te stel. Dit is as geldig en betroubaar
bewys, hoewel slegs onder buitelandse bevolkingsgroepe. Hierbenewens is sekere items
herformuleer en ander bygewerk deur die navorsers. Normatiewe waardes sal oak handig
wees in die afbakening van kognitief normaal-funksionerende en kognitief-ingekorte
individue. Hierdie studie het daarin geslaag am 'n tabel van normatiewe waardes daar te stel.
Een-honderd-en-sestig Afrikaans- en Engels-sprekendes, en 14 Xhosa-sprekendes is tydens
hierdie studie in hulle moedertaal ge-evalueer. Hierdie projek het dus oak 'n Xhosaweergawe
van die BKEB geskep. Die doel van die Xhosa-weergawe was am die gebrek aan
'n kultureel toepaslike kognitiewe instrument te beklemtoon. Resultate is ge-evalueer
gedagtig aan veranderlikes soos taal, geslag, ouderdom en opleidingsvlak. Taal het die
grootste invloed gehad op uitslae van Xhosa-deelnemers. Geslag het nie die uitslae so dramaties bernvloed soos ouderdom, en veral opleidingsvlak nie. Literatuur het meestal die
groot uitwerking van hierdie veranderlikes bevestig. Die BKEB is dus relevant en handig in
die naspeuring van ligte tot matige kognitiewe ingekortheid. Dit kan ook gebruik word om
spesifieke kognitiewe ingekortheid te identifiseer. Die kan die omvang van ondersoek deur
sielkundiges vernou, wat kan lei tot In groot besparing in tyd en geld. Hierbenewens kan
mediese en nie-mediese personeel aangewend word in die gebruik van die BKEB.
Sekere tekortkominge is ge·,dentifiseer. Die steekproef mag egter die veralgemening van die
uitslae beperk. Sekere toets-items mag ook hersiening vereis, tesame met verdere
geldigheid-studies. Kliniese praktisyns word daarom aangeraai om die BKEB slegs in
aanvulling tot omvattende kliniese ondersoeke te gebruik vir besluite m.b.t. In pasient se
kognitiewe status. Die BKEB kom voor as In geldige instrument vir bedkant evaluering.
Hierdie studie kon egter slegs die tafel dek vir verdere ondersoek, veral t.o.v. studies wat
poog om normatiewe waardes daar te stel.

The present study contributes to the widening body of spirituality research by conceptualizing it as a state-trait construct. A new measure of spirituality, the State-Trait Spirituality Inventory (STSI), was created and validated according to psychometric methods of test construction. In its current form, the STSI contains seven state spirituality items and six trait spirituality items. A thorough review of the literature identified common themes in spirituality definitions and assisted in developing definitions of trait and state spirituality. Internal consistency for the trait scale was .88 and for the state scale, .68. Good test-retest reliability was found with coefficients of .84 for trait spirituality and .81 for state spirituality. Results from a preliminary undergraduate sample as well as from the validation sample yielded a two-factor solution. In general, items determined by expert panels as trait items loaded on one factor and items deemed to be state items loaded on the second factor. Multitrait multimethod analysis yielded mixed findings for convergent, divergent, and concurrent validity for the spirituality and religiosity traits. Methods consisted of paper-and-pencil cognitive and behavioral measures. Cognitive measures were more likely to support convergent/divergent validity than were behavioral measures. A major emphasis in the study was to determine whether state and/or trait spirituality were able to predict current health status and provide evidence for predictive validity. Positive relationships were identified between trait spirituality and the mental health measures of the Short Form-36® (SF-36). In contrast, it was negatively related to the Role-Physical scale. State spirituality was inversely related to the Physical Component scale. These findings are discussed within the context of minimal research using the SF-36 and spirituality measures. The MTMM analysis was limited by available spirituality and religiosity measures that contain only cognitive or behavioral items. Suggestions for future research are offered.

This is followed by a discussion of the strategies employed to overcome these problems, and a detailed description of the procedures adopted in the design of the test battery. A hierarchical approach to the construct validation of performance-based tests is then proposed and the results of the validation procedures adopted discussed in detail.

Children with behavioural, social, and emotional problems in preschool are often at risk for school maladjustment and the development of psychological disorders when they enter the school system. This study sought to develop and validate a preschool screening instrument that could identify the precursors and symptoms of mental health problems and provide targeted intervention processes. Measures included on the screen were 20 items identified by 126 Victorian Prep teachers as most important for school success. When administered by teachers of 143 (68 boys, 75 girls) preschoolaged children, these items demonstrated an internal reliability of .97. Factor analysis resulted in a 3-factor solution, with 'Learning Skills", 'Social Skills', and 'Good Start Skills' emerging as factors. This 'Preschool Educational and Psychological Screen' (PrEPS) demonstrated significant concurrent, predictive, and construct validity. Factor scores were associated with family income, fathers' education, parents' marital status, and child's age, hours of sleep, and gender. Nous nous attachons dans un premier temps à étendre la méthode de génération de tests, basée sur la théorie du test de conformité à la ioco, en reliant trois niveaux de description (propriétés, spécification et implémentation). Nous combinons pour cela vérification formelle et test de conformité. Nous obtenons ainsi, lors de l'exécution du cas de test sur l'implémentation, des verdicts pouvant indiquer la non-conformité de l'implémentation, mais également la satisfaction/violation de la propriété par l'implémentation et/ou la spécification. Nous étendons dans un deuxième temps la génération de tests par l'expressivité du modèle de spécification en nous intéressant aux spécifications interprocédurales récursives. Notre méthode est basée sur une analyse exacte de co-accessibilité permettant de décider si et comment un objectif de test pourra être atteint. Cependant, l'incapacité des cas de test récursifs à connaître leur propre pile d'exécution ne permet pas d'utiliser la totalité des résultats de l'analyse. We first propose a methodology which extends the testing theory based on the ioco conformance relation by distinguishing three levels of description: properties, specification and implementation. The methogology integrates verification and conformance testing. The execution of the generated test cases on the implementation allows detecting conformance violations between implementation and specification, but also violation/satisfaction of the properties by the implementation or the specification. Secondly, we introduce a more expressive specification model: recursive interprocedural specifications. The test generation method we propose is based on coreachability analysis, which allows deciding whether and how the test purpose can still be satisfied. However, although it is possible to carry out an exact analysis, the inability of test cases to inspect their own stack prevents them from fully using the coreachability information. We discuss this partial observation problem, its consequences, and how to minimise its impact. Finally, we experiment these methods of test generation on several examples and a case study

La présente recherche étudie les qualités psychométriques d'une version française du Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale, nommée Échelle Kansas de la Satisfaction Conjugale (EKS). Cette échelle est administrée à 154 étudiants universitaires avec l'Échelle d'Ajustement Dyadique (EAD) et l'Inventaire des Opinions sur la Relation Conjugale-Révisé (IORC-R). Les résultats montrent que l'EKS se trouve fortement corrélé avec l'EAD et négativement et modérément avec l'IORC-R et son facteur Le Désaccord Est Destructif. L'EKS a pu aussi départager de manière satisfaisante les sujets qui sont en difficulté ou non selon leur score à l'EAD. De plus, l'EKS possède une excellente cohérence interne et une stabilité temporelle satisfaisante avec un délai de deux semaines. Un problème d'inversions des scores par les participants fait cependant croire en la nécessité de modifier la présentation du questionnaire. L'étude indique que l'EKS permet, une fois les inversions corrigées, d'évaluer de manière fidèle et valide la satisfaction conjugale globale.

Cette thèse se situe dans le champ des recherches consacrées à la validité de construit du Test d'Associations Implicites (IAT, Greenwald, McGhee, & Schwartz, 1998), en tant que mesure du préjugé. Bien que ce test soit employé à des fins applicatives et de recherche, les mécanismes qui sous-tendent les effets obtenus (i. E. , effets IAT) ne sont pas encore élucidés. Afin de contribuer à la compréhension des effets IAT de groupe, nous avons mené une démarche de validation expérimentale. Le test IAT que nous avons construit a été adapté au contexte social français où la minorité la plus fréquemment cible de préjugé est celle d’origine maghrébine. Prises ensemble, nos Etudes 2, 3, 4 et 5 ont montré que le potentiel menaçant de la situation de passation de l'IAT, "transparente" du point de vue de ses objectifs, serait à même d'augmenter l'effet expérimental. Les Etudes 6 et 7 ont confirmé que les processus attentionnels impliqués dans les tâches de catégorisation binaire peuvent expliquer, au moins partiellement, l'effet IAT indépendamment du construit d'intérêt. Enfin, les résultats des Etudes 8 et 9 sont conformes à l'hypothèse suivante : du fait de l'inclusion du Soi du participant dans l'une des deux catégories sociales cibles de la mesure (i. E. , Français et Maghrébin), la catégorisation des stimuli par référencement au Soi pourrait être un processus heuristique contribuant massivement à la production de l'effet IAT en faveur du groupe d'appartenance. Outre les circonstances de la passation, les propriétés perceptivo-attentionnelles des cibles et l'identité de groupe du répondant, des caractéristiques personnelles telles que l'âge ou le niveau d'études peuvent également contribuer à l'effet IAT (Etude 1). Au terme de ce travail, il s'avère que l'influence de sources multiples dont les contributions respectives restent inconnues hypothèque pour l'instant sérieusement la validité de construit de l'IAT en tant que test diagnostique du préjugé. Pour terminer nous concluons en recommandant que les éventuelles tentatives de validation à venir portent sur l'IAT défini comme un test (versus une procédure), ce qui implique de le mettre à l'épreuve en arrêtant au préalable ce qui le compose (i. E. , le matériel, les consignes, les caractéristiques de la population et les conditions de passation). Qu'il s'agisse d'un test par mesure indirecte ne justifie en rien l'abandon de ce principe méthodologique, bien au contraire<br>This thesis aimed at contributing to the topic of construct validity of the Implicit Association Test (IAT, Greenwald, McGhee, & Schwartz, 1998), considered as a prejudice measure. Although the IAT is currently employed for both research and applied purposes, the mechanism underlying the IAT effect is not yet fully understood. We adopted an experimental approach of the IAT construct validity in order to improve the comprehension of the IAT functioning. The IAT task was adapted to the French social context, where the North African minority is most frequently the target of prejudice. Considered together, Experiments 2, 3, 4 and 5 suggested that the IAT experimental situation has a threatening potential through the transparency of its purpose. The consequence would be an artificial inflation of the positive IAT effects (in the sense of in-group preferences). Experiments 6 and 7 confirmed that attention processes implied by binary categorisations could account, at least partially, for the IAT effect. Furthermore, we predicted that due to participant inclusion in one of the two target categories (i. E. , French versus North-African), categorisation of stimuli related to the "Self" may be an available heuristic with an important contribution to positive IAT effects reflecting in-group favouritism. Experiments 8 and 9 are consistent with this prediction. In addition, Experiment 1 demonstrated that personal characteristics such as age, education and ethnicity could exert their own influence on the IAT effect. The weights of the factors leading to the IAT effect is not yet established and, thus, undermine the construct validity of the IAT, considered as a diagnostic tool of prejudice. To conclude, we are arguing that IAT validation as a test (versus procedure) requests a clear specification of the contribution of all IAT components (i. Previously, Whipp et. al. (J. Appl. Physiol.: Respirat. Environ. Exerc. Physiol. 50(1):217-221, 1981) demonstrated the feasibility of determining four parameters of aerobic function, identified as maximum oxygen uptake (μVO_2), VO_2 at anaerobic threshold (θan), the time constant for oxygen uptake kinetics (rVO_2) and work efficiency (η), using a short duration ramped bicycle ergometer exercise test. Because of the importance of being able to measure these parameters on a variety of measurement instruments a short duration ramping treadmill protocol has been developed. The ability of this protocol to determine the four aerobic parameters has been validated against conventional methods. The results of this investigation indicate that μVO_2, θan, rVO_2 and, η may be obtained from a single, short-duration ramping treadmill test.

Cette étude a évalué les propriétés psychométriques d’un outil de dépistage du conflit décisionnel cliniquement significatif, le test SURE, auprès de patients présentant une infection aigüe des voies respiratoires et devant prendre une décision quant à la prise ou non d’antibiotiques. Au moyen d’un questionnaire auto-administré qui leur était fourni immédiatement après la consultation médicale, les 712 patients recrutés dans neuf unités de médecine familiale rattachées à l’Université Laval devaient répondre aux questions du test SURE et par la suite à celles de l’Échelle de Conflit Décisionnel (ÉCD), la mesure de référence du conflit décisionnel. Le coefficient de fidélité Kuder-Richardson 20 du SURE a été de 0,7, et les mesures d’association et de corrélation entre les résultats continus de l’ÉCD et ceux du SURE se sont avérées significatives (P<0,0001). La sensibilité et la spécificité ont été respectivement de 94,3% (79,4-99,0) et 85,2% (82,2-87,8). Cette étude suggère que le test SURE est adéquat pour dépister le conflit décisionnel en soins primaires. La validité du test dans différents contextes décisionnels devra être évaluée.<br>This study validated the psychometric properties of a screening tool assessing decisional conflict, the SURE test, in patients with acute respiratory infection who had to make a decision about taking antibiotics or not. Using a self-administered questionnaire which was provided immediately after the medical encounter, 712 patients recruited in nine family practice teaching units related to Laval University were asked to respond to SURE and Decisional Conflict Scale (DCS) questions, the gold-standard measure of decisional conflict. The internal consistency using Kuder-Richardson 20 coefficient was 0.7, and there was a significant correlation between DCS and SURE scores (P<0.0001). Sensitivity and specificity were 94.3% (79.4-99.0) and 85.2% (82.2-87.8, respectively. This study suggests that the SURE test is appropriate to screen for decisional conflict in primary care. The validity of the test in different decisional contexts should be evaluated.

Cette étude vise à examiner la validité de l’Inventaire des Styles Sociaux TRIMA 2.0 (ISST 2.0) en le comparant à une mesure des Big Five : Le Big Five Inventory français. Cette comparaison permet de mieux situer l’ISST 2.0 par rapport au champ de la personnalité, où les Big Five sont une théorie ascendante. L’étude permet de se familiariser à la fois avec la démarche de validation par comparaison à une autre variable et avec le modèle TRIMA. Un échantillon de 425 participants ont rempli les deux tests, sa composition ne pose pas de problèmes connus. Les données utilisées sont comparables avec celles des précédentes études sur ces tests. Les corrélations propres à l’ISST 2.0 sont similaires à celles de sa validation. Toutes les échelles ont au moins une hypothèse informée ou une relation non attendue. Cette étude fournit donc une démonstration mitigée de la validité de l’ISST 2.0.

Few constituencies exist where it is more important to produce information literate individuals than teacher candidates, yet rarely is it suggested that practitioners entering the field are adequately prepared to teach and model information literacy to their students. As a result, information literacy has been established as a key outcome by a number of teacher education accrediting bodies and professional associations. Corollary to this initiative is the effort to develop valid instruments that assess information literacy skills. Yet, at the time of this dissertation, no rigorously reviewed instruments were uncovered that measure the information literacy skills levels of teacher candidates. The study describes the development and validation of the Beile Test of Information Literacy for Education (B-TILED). Funded in part by the Institute for Library and Information Literacy Education and the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the study is part of a national initiative spear-headed by the Project for the Standardized Assessment of Information Literacy Skills (SAILS). Test content is based on nationally recognized standards from the International Society for Technology in Education and the Association of College and Research Libraries. Procedures designed to enhance the scale's validity were woven throughout its development. 172 teacher education students at a large, metropolitan university completed a protocol consisting of 22 test items and 13 demographic and self-percept items. Cette thèse propose un formalisme de définition de critères de sélection de test couvrant les différents besoins et pratiques industrielles du test. L'exploitation de ces critères à l'aide de techniques d'exécution symbolique permet ensuite de réduire l'explosion combinatoire lors de la génération des tests sélectionnés. Different works propose solutions for automatic testing generation. Nevertheless, they encounter two problems: a production of a too wide set of tests for a practical use and the problem of the formal identification of researched properties. Those two points are especially crucial in the automobile designing field, regarding to the complexity of considered systems and the time and costs of tests controls. This thesis proposes a formalization of tests selection criteria, which copes with the different industrial testing usages. Then the use of these criteria with the help of symbolic execution allows to reduce the combinatory explosion when generating selected tests. La présente thèse contribue à la littérature sur les deux principaux axes de recherche relatifs à la Value-at-Risk (VaR) : la prévision et le backtesting de la VaR. Concernant le premier axe, la thèse développe une méthodologie pour la prévision de la VaR à des horizons intra-journaliers. La méthodologie conditionne non linéairement les rendements à l'existence de nouvelles sur le marché, mesurée par l'innovation de l'intensité transactionnelle. Dans cette optique nous introduisons deux nouvelles spécifications : un modèle de volatilité qui relie la réponse asymétrique de la volatilité aux rendements, à l'existence de nouvelles et un modèle à changement de régime dans la queue de distribution, dirigé par l'existence de nouvelles. Les applications empiriques démontrent que cette méthodologie constitue un outil flexible de gestion de risque sur des marchés où les fluctuations intra-journalières des prix sont de plus en plus importantes. Pour le deuxième axe, nous introduisons deux nouvelles approches pour le backtesting de la VaR. Premièrement, nous développons un test qui étend ceux existants en vérifiant la validité de la VaR pour plusieurs niveaux de confiance. La statistique de test est une extension au cadre multivarié du test de Ljung-Box pour le processus de violations de la VaR. Deuxièmement, nous utilisons la distribution (géométrique) de la durée entre deux violations consécutives sous l'hypothèse de validité de la VaR et introduisons une nouvelle statistique de test, dérivée des conditions de moments induits par les polynômes orthonormaux associés à la loi géométrique. Il est démontré que les deux nouveaux tests présentent de bonnes propriétés à distance finie.

This thesis sets out to derive an analytical model for a center of gravity (CG) measuring platform and examines its validity through experimental testing and Finite Element Modeling. The method uses a two-stage platform tilting process to first locate the planar CG coordinates and then find the third CG coordinate normal to the platform. An uncertainty model of the measuring platform was also developed, both CG and uncertainty models were implemented in the form of a MATLAB code. A load cell sizing task was also added to the code to assist the Integration Engineers at Jet Propulsion Laboratory in selecting load cells to design their own version of the CG Platform. The constructed CG Platform for this project used an array of six strain gauges, four C2A-06-062LT-120 Tee Rosettes and two C2A-06-031WW-120 Stacked Rosettes. They were bonded onto the legs of three truss shaped bipods. Results from the Platform Tilting Tests could not be used to validate the CG model as the measured CG and weight values found from the experimental tests contained a considerable amount of error. The errors in the Platform Tilting Tests are believed to stem from the initial errors observed during the bipod rod and strain gauge calibration tests. As an alternative, an FE model of the CG measuring platform was created as another means of validation. The math model of the CG measuring platform was successfully validated by showing that there was less than a 0.01% different between the bipod loads predicted from the MATLAB code and the FE model. Using the FEM generated loads as inputs into the CG code to calculate a CG matched the initial point mass or CG created in the FE model within a 0.01% difference. To validate the CG model even further, another test should be performed using a CG Platform prototype instrumented with load cells to generate new experimental data and compare them with the results from the FE model.

<p> The current state of community college student engagement literature is that it is rich with journal articles and research but limited on tools with which to measure the construct of engagement. The Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE), a widely cited survey of community college student engagement, is one way to measure engagement, though this instrument has come under scrutiny for the validity of its benchmarks, its lack of emphasis on cultural considerations, and its length. The present study sought to create and validate a new survey of community college student engagement that would take less than 10 minutes to complete and drew on the most current body of literature on college student engagement. A second aim of this study was to understand community college student engagement by interpreting the results of the instrument created, the Brief Assessment of Student Engagement (BASE), and comparing it to other research on student engagement. The BASE was created and revised based on a literature review, rounds of interviews with students, feedback from higher education administrators and faculty, and a pilot administration. The BASE was then administered to a randomly selected group of students. Several significant, though weak to moderate, relationships were found between questions on the BASE and items from the CCSSE. Significant differences between scores based on age of participants was found, with those participants aged 30-35 scoring higher than those aged 18-24. A significant though weak relationship was also found between score on the BASE and GPA. Implications are discussed. </p>
