Abstract:

Abstract:
O aperfeiçoamento no Teachers College influenciou significativamente a professora.
This study deals with the career of Benedicta Valladares Ribeiro (1905-1989) in the Normal School Model of Belo Horizonte in Minas Gerais, in the period from 1926 to 1967. The study had the intention to determine whether the training in the U.S.A. has influenced the teaching performance of Benedicta, who devoted much of her life to education. In a pioneer way, in 1926 Benedicta went in an official mission of Minas Gerais government, with a group of teachers, in order to study at the Teachers College in the University of Columbia in the U.S.A. and when they returned, they worked in a reform of the education in Minas Gerais state, assisting in the implementation of the New School. In order to comprehend her performance, the government of Antônio Carlos de Andrade in Minas Gerais was the first approached, in which Francisco Campos, who was a country secretary, implemented the reform of education in the State. Then, it was discussed other issues related to women and to the Professional sphere of Benedicta V. Ribeiro. The last chapter deals with her professional career. To consolidate the research, Benedictas personal letters exchanged with her family in the period while she was in the United States were used, which gave voice to this young researcher professor. Also, interviews were conducted with her former students and that elucidated her Professional career. It is noteworthy that the teacher, even in a pioneer way, believed in the importance of art integrated into all education and the needs to explore with children the image before writing. The improvement at the Teachers College has significantly influenced the teacher, who became an admirer of John Dewey and other educators and philosophers precursors of the New School.

The primary purpose is to help researchers and students who wish to explore deeper the life and work of a Brazilian educator who was, at one and the same time, physician, critic, iconographer, photographer, art historian, poet and writer. Clarival Valladares created, with new methodological resources that he transplanted from Pathological Anatomy to the History of Art, the necessary conditions for the establishment of Brazilian iconology, the discipline that seeks to understand the significance of the symbolic values that pervade pictorial creation, and an indispensable tool for the proper evaluation of our cultural and artistic heritage. With these resources and with an original vision (in terms of Brazil), Clarival wrote the history of his country through the eyes of those that saw and recorded it – the artists. Not only the consecrated artists, but especially those most closely linked to the reality of their community and, therefore, to Brazilian nature. Following the itinerary of this educator's life, the author (his daughter and disciple) also attempts to convey the exemplary energy of someone who, besides being a thinker, philosopher and meticulous researcher, was a man of action.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Excavations at the cemetery of the valladas at saint-paul-trois-chateaux (drome, france) yielded a group of 230 graves (incinerations and inhumations) dating back from between 20 a. D. And 200 a. D. , together with the foundations of a circular mausoleum. The site was most densely occupied at the end of the ist century a. D. Clusters of graves sometimes are enclosed within masonry walls or mere ditches, and so, it is possible to reconstruct the limits of funeral plots, themselves defined according to the pattern of the "cadastre b" of orange. The evolution of funeral rites brought about the inhumation of adult persons during the 2nd century; an extension of primary incinerations, from the middle of the ist century on; and, correlatively, the gradual disappearence of the traditional rite which was a secondary incineration with an urn. The most usual burial technique is secondary incineration without any urn, much simpler and poorer. There is indeed some relationship between the amount of offerings and the more or less comoplicated organization of the grave. Such an organization is dictated by very exact rules, which can be inferred, for instance, from the way objects are placed according to their respective kind (vessels, scent flasks lamps, food offerings, personal belongings. . . ) with the passin of time

Abstract:
One of the keys for the success of ubiquitous network services is the issue of assigning prices to those services. Furthermore, ubiquitous services based on a network of complementary technologies, both fixed and wireless, have created the expectation of services that can be obtained dynamically and automatically with the minimum possible of interaction between the users and potentially complex network systems. Intelligent agents would negotiate the best conditions to make sure the user obtains the best possible connection always (Voinov & Valladares, 2003). This best possible connection would be selected by comparing the different services, quality of the services offered, and prices, then reaching a decision based on the policies the user has configured in his or her intelligent agent and in conjunction with the policies being presented by the different service providers.

Abstract:
Most past studies of Cuban entrepreneurship (referred to by the Cuban government as trabajo por cuenta propia or “self-employment”) to date have focused either on a single industry or set of industries such as private paladar restaurants, bed and breakfasts, or shoe manufacturing. This chapter describes and analyzes one of the relatively underexplored potentialities of Cuba’s emergent private enterprise sector: “entrepreneurial solidarity” (emprendimiento solidario), also known as “social entrepreneurship” or “socially responsible enterprise.”. Specifically, this chapter investigates this topic thorough a case study approach that focuses on a single Old Havana neighborhood (Santo Ángel), tracing the efforts of Papito Valladares’s grassroots community project there (Artecorte) to marry: (1) economic development (via private entrepreneurship as a licensed cuentapropista) with (2) social responsibility (via a variety of community development initiatives) and (3) cultural preservation (through an important alliance with Office of the City Historian). Artecorte embraces an ethic of contagion over competition, combining bottom-line-oriented private enterprise with neighborhood uplift, community outreach, and collaborative synergy—alternately independent from or in sync (and occasional partnership) with the government’s “party line.”

Abstract:
The graphic activity of Magdalenian human groups forms the most spectacular part of the archaeological record in Cantabrian Spain and, at the same time, represents probably the most expressive aspect of the culture of those Upper Palaeolithic hunters. Since the early 1990s, several projects have tried to fix more precisely the chronology of the cave art through the application of radiocarbon dating by Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (Valladas et al. 1992, 2001; Moure Romanillo and González Sainz 2000; Fortea Pérez 2002). The present article attempts an integrated discussion of the results of the absolute chronology for Magdalenian cave art and the present situation of the most reliable parallels between this and the mobile art of the same period. It is well known that the ordering in time of cave art is rather more complex than that of decorated objects, which are dated by their archaeological context (and therefore both this context and the artefacts themselves can be dated by radiocarbon). In Cantabrian Spain, the approaches to dating cave art, especially for the Magdalenian depictions, are the series of superimpositions known on certain walls of a few caves, the analogy with stratified mobile art, and absolute dating, essentially for this period, radiocarbon dating by accelerator. Other procedures, such as the correlation with stratigraphic sequences, offer good results in pre-Magdalenian periods (Fortea 1994), but are limited in the period that interests us here to just a few cases, such as Cueva del Mirón, in relation with some rather modest depictions (González Morales and Straus, 2000). 1. Series of superimposed figures of different kinds have often been described, on panels in a limited number of cave sites. In Cantabrian Spain, the main examples are found in the caves of La Peña del Candamo, Tito Bustillo, Llonín, Altamira, El Castillo, La Pasiega, and La Garma Lower Passage—in other words, the main cave art centres, repeatedly used over long periods in the Upper Palaeolithic. These sites tend to differ quite clearly from the other cave art sites, which are more or less synchronic internally (they have a much lower number of depictions which, above all, are more homogeneous in style and techniques).
