’Growth’ as a concept is often not very well understood. Growth may be measured in a variety of ways (e.g., growth in turnover, earnings, and earnings per share, assets, and shareholders’ equity). Investors and other capital providers generally find it attractive to invest in ‘growth firms.’ For instance, earnings per share (EPS) figures are widely published and used by investors. An increase in EPS is seen as a signal of improved profitability. Likewise, growth in earnings measures such as EBIT, EBITA, EBITDA etc. seem to indicate that firms are value creating. The paper presents an impossibility theory, that micro-economics cannot consider environmental factors, and suggests that an analysis of the treatment of environment within economic theory reveals shortcomings in many areas of economics. The essential element in the consideration of environment is the economic evaluation of environmental disruption. The development of new technology or of anti-pollution measures require that resources be correctly allocated. There are several reasons why this cannot be considered. The static nature of economic theory prohibits consideration of both technologic

Furthermore, it develops a theoretical framework and an empirical analysis to study the impact of the VAT, as a form of taxing consumption, on capital accumulation, productivity growth, and overall economic growth. While recent theoretical work shows that the VAT may boost capital accumulation and growth by encouraging more savings, we find that the net impact of consumption taxes on growth and its sources is theoretically ambiguous, and depends on the interaction betw

Value based performance measurement has become popular in modern day financial practices. Of the many value based measurements, the EVA® framework has gained much notoriety. It became the focus of much research because it has been widely implemented in many large organisations with professed benefits in maximizing shareholder wealth. Much of the previous work on the EVA® framework focused on the performance metric; conclusions differed as to whether the EVA® performance metric resulted in better information or whether it was better at indicating performance, and ultimately shareholder wealth.

Abstract All plant components and most laboratory specimens exhibit changes in stress intensity factor (K) as the crack depth (a) increases from small dimensions. In most laboratory specimens, dK/da is a small, positive number. In many plant components. dK/da is larger and in some cases becomes negative if K peaks and then decreases. Above certain +dK/da values, the crack growth rate can rise dramatically (>100X in some cases). There appears to be a threshold dK/dt, which is a product of dK/da x da/dt (the growth rate).
