Let K = K0(x, y) be a function field of transcendence degree one over a field K0 with x, y satisfying y2 = F(x), F(x) being any polynomial over K0. Let υ0 be a valuation of K0 having a residue field k0 and υ be a prolongation of υ to K with residue field k. In the present paper, it is proved that if G0⊆G are the value groups of υ0 and υ, then either G/G0 is a torsion group or there exists an (explicitly constructible) subgroup G1 of G containing G0 with [G1:G0]<∞ together with an element γ of G such that G is the direct sum of G1 and the cyclic group ℤγ. The concept of status is in the background of much research on celebrity but rarely made explicit, so in this collection of articles we seek to intervene by drawing attention to the usefulness of the concept in understanding the attribution of value in celebrity culture. We consider that celebrity status derives from an accumulation of social esteem or disparagement based on the countless evaluative judgements, positive or negative, that accumulate in media and wider public discourse. We conceptualize celebrity status as operating within and relating to the social fields that celebrities occup

The discussion focuses on the operational importance of values, value as processuality, the core of value, which that constitutes its meaning, the role of the relationship between the axiological subject and object, the hierarchy of values etc., regarding all these aspects as benchmarks that give education validity from a value point of view. Abstract:
This paper examines the underlying drivers of MLB franchise value. Using panel data for MLB teams from 2000-2010, I find that a team’s ballpark and metro-area market are significant determinants, yet revenues truly drive value. Further, I find that incremental increases in winning percentage by a particular team has an insignificant effect on total revenues and has no marginal impact on the value of the team, particularly if the team recognizes consistent revenue streams every year. Finally, I show that the modern sabermetric approach to player management negatively impacts firm value, sugge

Quantum field theory is studied within the semi-classical gravity approximation. The quantum correction to the propagation of both photons and gravitons in a general curved space background is calculated showing a non-trivial spacetime refractive index as well as a dynamical dressing (or undressing) of the particle state. The initial interacting particle's 'dressing', the cloud of virtual particles that surrounds it, may receive corrections from an infinite number of modes even for flat space. When gravitational tidal effects remove this dressing, squeezing it back into the bare particle, this

The effect of field margin management on crop yield and weed biomass in the crop edge (headland) was investigated. Treatment did not have any significant effect on cereal yields, and taking a one metre strip out of crop production to establish a sterile, natural regeneration or sown strip, did not significantly reduce yields compared to cropping to the field edge. Conservation headlands generally contained greater amounts of weed biomass than fully sprayed headlands, but grain yields were not significantly reduced.
