Van, Zyl Heleneze. "Resilience among middle-born children / H. van Zyl." Thesis, North-West University, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10394/7252.

Full text
Abstract:
Existing literature on resilience portrays middle-born children as vulnerable. Middle-born children have to face many risks, such as a tendency towards delinquent behaviour, having poor relations with family members, being low achievers and harbouring negative feelings. Many children who face risk and who consequently are in danger of maladaptive outcomes manage to bounce back from these risks. Such children are called resilient. Research suggests that resilience among children is a common phenomenon, but no literature exists that focuses specifically on resilience among middle-born children.

With recognition of turnover as a financial issue increasing, companies are searching for strategies to confront the problem in ways that generate a good return on investment. Successfully managing turnover is a matter of understanding its costs, causes and cures. Forward–thinking banks are looking for ways to leverage people, along with processes and technology, to achieve their objectives. Abstract:
Workplace performance measurements of respiratory protective equipment (RPE) are fundamental to understanding how well users are protected during work activities. This study evaluated the effectiveness of various respiratory protective devices used within the platinum producing industry and whether facial hair influenced the seal efficiency of the facepiece. Three life-size mannequins, each connected to a personal sampling pump, were used to test the efficiency of respirators within three different work environments. It was found that the 3M 8822, 3M 6000, Moldex 8000 and Drager air-stream hel

Motivation Hypertension is an escalating problem in our South African population, especially among urban black Africans. The development of hypertension may be facilitated by various factors, including oxidative stress. Oxidative stress can be caused by a decrease in antioxidant capacity or an increase in the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Previous studies by our research team support the theory of increased oxidative stress in our black population, but it is unknown whether it is the result of decreased antioxidant enzyme activity, or an increase in ROS production. Throughout the world, countries and companies are directing their attention towards actions to protect the planet, and an important focus area during various initiatives is the aim to stabilise greenhouse gas concentrations at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climatic system. Various targets are set by governments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the South African Government is, among others, investigating a carbon tax policy to facilitate their transition to a greener economy. As the global manufacturing industry emits up to 43 percent of the glob
