Full textIn 1935 the artist César Moro arranged an exhibition that had an innovative and avant-garde character, which has not been enough valued by the History of the Peruvian Art. Through this research, the artistic context of that time is described and explained, where the pictorial indigenism had become a hegemonic art. It is also seen how Moro’s new surrealist proposal emerges from that exposure taking as intellectual and artistic basis his own interest in the psychoanalysis, his research in the psychiatric hospital “Victor Larco Herrera”, as well as his experience with the surrealistic european group. His creative process is analyzed and interpreted in detail along this work through the rhetorical method, which shows the conception that Moro had of the artistic reality not forgetting his intention to insert new procedures to the plastic arts.

Full textThe present work creates a dialogue between two literary avant-garde movementes that emerged in the twenties of last century in Peru and Brazil: on the one hand, the avant-garde\'s indigenismo of Puno directed by Gamaliel Churata, that claimed both their regional and ethnic identity, as the procedures avant-garde use to express it; and, on the other hand, his Brazilian contemporary, the Oswald de Andrade\'s Anthropophagy, who from the São Paulo metropolis brought together similar elements (the indigenous and the avant-garde impulse) with different intentions. The thesis intends to discuss the indigenous\'s picture drawn by both movements in the journals Boletín Titikaka and Revista de Antropofagia and present in El pez de oro by Churata and Serafim Ponte Grande by Andrade; this image was used as a symbolic platform which deal with historical, literary and perplexities of both programs, which spoke through an absent voise, are underlined with the intention of showing the contradictions of their society.

Full textThis thesis aims to compile and analyze the literary criticism of two important writers, working journalists, in a specific period of time and in a determined media, ie, La Vanguardia, between 1914 and 1936. In the lasts years, researchers of contemporary literature have had the need to study the media diachronically, specifically newspapers, because the role they played as mass communicators and cultural disseminators, was very important, at the end of 19th century and at the begining of the 20th century. During these years, a considerable number of writers used to work in newspapers to earn one's living. They took care of literary criticism of new books, with their own writer's style. In this context, this investigation deals with the study of newspaper articles, literary criticism specifically, as an important and significant part in the literary production of a writer. This thesis contributes to the knowledge of the genre of literary criticism, limited in a space and time -Iberian Peninsula in the twenties and thirties -. The research, also wants to shed a little more light on the knowledge of two prominent figures of Catalan culture, which used the Spanish language to communicate: Mario Verdaguer and Agustí Calvet, Gaziel. Both were recognized authors by their contemporaries and by present researchers, but their critical facets have been forgotten, even though their literary criticism's production is abundant and significant. To get these objectives we have looked for all the articles published by Verdaguer and Gaziel in La Vangaurdia, we inventoried and classified them in a database. After that, we analyse the literary theme articles to configurate the literary though, the conception of the criticism's nature and the methodology used by each one. The research increases the understanding of these two writers at the same time that contributes to the knowledge of the critical genre, in a moment of the literature history and evidence links between journalism and literature.
Castro, Sanz Carles. "La reconversión tecnológica y empresarial en un periódico consolidado: el caso de "La Vanguardia"." Doctoral thesis, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, 2002. http://hdl.handle.net/10803/4107.
Full textThis thesis examines the changes and the factors behind the press's viability during the period from 1970 to 1990, through study specifically of "La Vanguardia", a newspaper from Barcelona and one of the main examples of the modern newspapers of today. By 1980, newspapers of this type, generally centenarian, were suffering from obsolescence in terms of techniques and concepts, and had similar difficulties to innovate and compete with new journals. At the same time, the studied period was an exceptional one because, not only had there been revolutionary changes in the methods of elaboration and technical production, but also in design and newspaper contents. However, this process led to a crisis related to the difficulty of adaptation that some newspaper suffered (and which led to many of them closing) and a contraction -in spite of the emergence of new journals- in the number of readers. The purpose of this investigation is in the first place to research the elements that explain why some newspapers survive while others not, and, specifically, the importance of the technological vector in relation to some other aspects, as the changing model, the formal, conceptual and ideological choice of each journal, its social implantation, its financial evolution, and the degree of modernity of its structures of organisation and enterprise. To verify the role played by any of these elements, the investigation approaches the issue via concentric circles, which establish reference models and behavioural rules at an intercontinental level (comparing experiences from Europe and U.S.A), at a state level (the specific traits of the Spanish press in the seventies) and the local level (to determine, on the interaction between the studied object and the nearest reader market). The principal conclusion drawn here is that technological modernisation was a necessary but not sufficient condition for newspapers' viability. That is to say, from the comparative study of "La Vanguardia", it can be concluded that the survival of the centenarian journals in the new communicational habitat mainly results from a prior process of rationalisation of the corporate, productive and financial structures, as well as from going for the right formal and conceptual styles, which could confirm the social and institutional implantation within its respective markets. In fact, a certain restraint in the choice of the technologies and, above all, a scrupulously gradual approach to its introduction -at least where modern journals in old Europe are concerned- emerge as the basic conditions needed for successful modernisation.

Cuya, Nina Juan Roberto.

Full textJoan Brotat (Barcelona, 1920-1990) was a prominente artist in the process of recovery of pictorial modernity in Spain after the Civil War, but then his work gradually fell into oblivion. This thesis studies his professional career, in relation to his personal biography (family and social context), the local art system, and the national and international context (critical fortune, artistic and commercial development). The thesis proposes that Brotat was in fact a paradigmatic figure of a primitivist tendency. Primitivism was not an immature stage of modernity on the way toward abstraction, but responded to the particular historical context of Postwar Spain with original solutions. The success and then failure of Brotat and Primitivism invites to reconsider the canon of Postwar Catalan art. Untill his death, Brotat did hide his involvement in the Civil War, a trauma that marked his work and existence. The iconographic analysis and the evolution of his modern naif style shows a tragic and existential undertones. A key aspect is the discovery of an abstract stage in the late forties contradicting the evolutionary hierarchy that explains schematic figuration as a step toward abstraction. On the contrary, naive primitivism was a conscious and deliberate option. Postwar Catalan Figurative Primitivism was a coherent mix of medievalism and naiveté(although without a declarated program). The naiveté of postwar art has two aspects : the radical and nostalgic, which sometimes appear together and sometimes separately. Among Catalan artists, primitivism had great prominence and took various forms. De Sucre or Joan Ponç represent the more radical and tormented side, Albert Rafols Casamada or Joan Vilacasas the most naive and influenced by French modernism. There is, later, a clear trend towards politization (Francesc Todó Josep Guinovart, Estampa Popular). We studied the various sources of this primitivism and found the fundamental influence of Joan Miró and Massimo Campigli. Likewise, there are links to Spanish artists such as Rafael Zabaleta, Benjamín Palencia, the valencians Manuel Gil and Salvador Faus or Manuel Millares. Often tinged with nostalgia and religiosity, in sinthony with a Franciscan fashion, the theoretical discourse about primitivism was ambivalent and evolved from modernity to conservatism.

Duarte, Valverde Luis Eduardo. "El net.art como perplejidades de vanguardia. Una aproximación a la obra de Jodi desde Wittgenstein." Doctoral thesis, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/10803/665146.
Full textThe objective aim of this thesis is to offer a model of conceptual analysis for the understanding of net.art 1.0 or metalinguistic internet art. For this, this expression will be treated following Wittgenstein as problems (perplexities) and procedures (language games) that this young practice shares with the so-called artistic avant-garde. Thus, one of the main philosophical problems will be faced in relation to current artistic practices, such as the difficulty of understanding and the exercise of aesthetic judgment. This will be devoted to the first chapter following some approaches of Yves Michaud, who in his essay The Aesthetic Judgment, suggests Wittgenstein as an exit. Assuming Wittgenstein as a methodological framework (second chapter), art will be understood as desontologized linguistic practices and linguistic games that, far from reflecting abstract theoretical conceptions, highlight its experimental nature. That is, they obey shared forms of life that in net.art are noticed both on the side of programmers and internet users. Therefore, the most important category to be analyzed will be that of perplexities as conceptual linguistic problems or knots. These will face from comparative reasons as tools to understand from the differences. It deals with the supplementary descriptions, see how, see aspects and family similarities. That said, the third chapter proposes the recognition of six perplexities in the artistic avant-garde that also occur in net.art: dematerialization, metalanguage, appropriationism, absence of the original, processual character and collective creation. This will be done first in a general way and then in three movements; Dadaism, Suprematism and Fluxus. Similarly, in the fourth chapter, a characterization of net.art 1.0 will be made from these perplexities, highlighting its cognitive and metalinguistic character. To critically highlight describe the power of the internet in communication and art, as well as the importance of network behavior and the power exercised by corporations. Finally, in the fifth chapter, it will be specified in the work of the net.artists Jodi collective, in which the six perplexities will be recognized analyzing some of their most representative works, which will be placed in differential relation with other works of similar characteristics.
Montero, Lueiza Héctor Andrés. "Socialidades clandestinas. La Vanguardia Organizada del Pueblo (1968-1971): de Alejandro Villarroel Rodríguez a Chicauma." Doctoral thesis, Universitat de Barcelona, 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/10803/668160.
Full textThe research set out to trace a comprehensive analysis of the clandestine social practices of the Vanguardia Organizada del Pueblo (VOP) in the experience of ex-militants and ex-collaborators of this organization, in relation to the role it played during its existence (1968-1971) in the Chilean socio-political framework. Under the guidance of historical anthropology, the objectives are approached from the design of a methodological framework of qualitative approach, and developed in an exploratory study, without any working hypothesis, ethnographic type and use of the biographical approach or life story. The tasks were carried out in Chile and Catalonia, and were divided into three phases and four stages. The first phase dates from the austral summer of 1996, at which time the idea of research arose. The second phase lasted from March 2007 to March 2008 and from December 2013 to January 2014, in which the first two stages of fieldwork were carried out, both in Curacaví and Santiago. The third phase ran from June 2016 to September 2019, a period in which activities were carried out in Catalonia and the third and fourth stages of fieldwork were carried out in Chile, in Santiago, Lampa and, essentially, Chicauma, the latter a rural sector close to Santiago where the VOP inaugurated in December 1970 a socialist commune called Comuna Chicauma (and which operated until June 1971). The study reviews some theories associated with the foundations of sociality and the political action of clandestine organizations, as well as examining the main social and political events and processes that occurred in Chile from 1900 to 1970 and had an impact on the Chilean popular movements of the period, and exposes the stories gathered in interview sessions with ex-militants of left-wing organizations that were contemporary to and collaborated with VOP; to former vopist Alejandro Villarroel Rodríguez, with whom we constructed his life story; and to current residents of the Chicauma sector. The results give account of contextual and particular antecedents in general unknown and secrets of the VOP, from which we enter into certain facts and socio-political processes before and after the period of vopist political operativity, in which fragments of the collective memory of the Chilean popular movements are revealed, some of which had in part become secrets for themselves.

Full textThis thesis analyzes the modern temporality through the 20’s European avant-garde cinema. This cinema picks up all the temporalities that have been rejected by the Illustrated idea of time as linear and progressive. As a consequence, this cinema systematically defies the Illustrated discursive construction and the historical comprehension that it elaborated during the Interwars period. Avant-garde cinema was a privileged means to study the modern time experience because it is a complex compendium of times and discontinuities. At the same time, the temporality is a key element to define and study the cinematographic avant-garde. This cinema is characterized by the exploration of movement, the experiments with the image, its lack of interest in narrativity and its interest on the real. It also proposes a subversion of the filmic field (and sometimes, also the social field). Avant-garde filmmakers did not construct an alternative temporal discourse but they organized a coherent uprising corpus based on the exploration of those diverse temporalities. They established the image as a method, the deconstruction of the instrumental rationalization of the visual dominion and they proposed that a new type of history and image emanates from the coexistence of the variety of temporal discourses.

Full textFrom 1931 to 1936, the Spanish Second Republic carried out the project of the Misiones Pedagógicas in rural towns and villages in order to promote social justice and cultural communication. Intellectuals and artists inspired by the previous work of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza and the ideas of Manuel Bartolomé Cossío, gave birth to a cultural, pedagogical and political experience that expressed the singularity of Spanish modernity. The juxtaposition of elements from the cultural heritage (medieval, modern and contemporary images, devices and ideas), the search for the alma del pueblo (Antonio Machado) and the profundidad de España (José Val del Omar), the use of modern technologies (photography, gramophone and cinema), the dialogue with the avantgardes, and the creation of a diffusive pedagogical praxis, configurated a cultural policy defined by its own actors as “extravagant”. From a historical broad perspective, this thesis offers a new critical reading of the Misiones Pedagógicas, placing them in a cultural context that goes beyond the educational field.

Full textThis paper aims to point out the importance of the Sevillian bullfighter and writer Ignacio Sánchez Mejías (1891-1934) in the Spanish Literature. He was an important man of culture in the early twentieth century and also a versatile figure, so we will attempt to address their most significant roles: bullfighter, playwright, novelist, journalist, lecturer, poet, participant in the celebration of the centenary of Góngora in 1927, friend of the poets of the Generation of ‘27, poetic character…. First, we will study the biographical data of the bullfighter and writer in order to know his life, personality and death. We will investigate his relationship with the Generation of '27, glimpsing his true role in the centenary of Góngora, held in Seville in 1927. Deepening the mythical image of the bullfighter, turned into the protagonist of poetic compositions written by Luis Fernández Ardavín, Miguel Hernández, Mariano Brull, Rafael Alberti, Benjamín Péret, Gerardo Diego, Domingo Manfredi and Federico García Lorca. We will analyse the literary work of the bullfighter, showing that he tried to innovate in many of his texts. First, his theatre is investigated and a review of the Spanish theatre of the early twentieth century is also made in order to place his dramatic production in a theatrical context and to verify that he sought to renew the Spanish scene of his time, coming at the vanguard. His plays are studied and compared with contemporaneous and subsequent works: Sinrazón, related with Surrealism, Freud theories and madness; Zaya in which the protagonist is immersed in nostalgia for his bullfighting past; Ni más ni menos, sort of mystery play without sacrament, linked to the forefront; and Soledad, which is unfinished. A revision of the reviews of his staged plays, Sinrazón and Zaya is done. It is also studied the novel, La amargura del triunfo, which delves into issues such as corruption in the bullfighting word, the worries of a bullfighter… This novel is contrasted with other novels of its time. The main character’s psychological introspection that suggests its author’s emotion is observed. Other aspects of Sánchez Mejías are reviewed: he was a journalist in La Unión de Sevilla in 1925; lectured in San Sebastián in 1928 and in New York in 1929; he composed with la Argentinita the flamenco show Las calles de Cádiz, which was a novelty in the Spanish dance of its time; his role as poet manifests in the lyricism of his texts, in an epistle in verse that he sends to Cossío and in a poem dedicated to his daughter. Moreover, the footprint of the bullfighter-writer has been contemplated at present, due to the fact that shows and documentaries inspired by his life and death, have been developed and also several homages, specially organized by Peña Taurina Ignacio Sánchez Mejías. To make the analysis of the figure of Sánchez Mejías and his literary production, it has been conducted a research examining contemporary newspapers, theatre reviews from 1928, books documents and articles from the early twentieth century, and current web pages; the headquarters of his bullfighting club in Manzanares has been visited, and interviewed relatives of the author and members of the club. In conclusion, Ignacio Sánchez Mejías was a significant man in the Spanish literature and also in the bullfighting of the early twentieth century, and he was a writer related to Generation of the '27 who tried to innovate in his literary works by connecting tradition and modernity and imprinting them with his personality. The literary and personal transcendence of this matador is found in his writings and poetic compositions made in his honour, turning him into a mythical hero, whose wake remains to this day.

Full textHistorically, cocoa has been mixed with the available products in a specific geographical context. This is how there are cocoa drinks combined with spices, milk, banana or cassava. With corn and other grains, the drink is known as seven-grain chucula, which is characterized as a food preparation that is part of the aboriginal and Hispanic traditions; its popularity extends throughout the Colombian territory in the departments of Cundinamarca, Boyacá and Tolima. Originally it was prepared with corn flour, the percentage of cocoa being a revelation of the social status of the person who consumed it. At present, some traditional dishes and drinks of Cundinamarca, among which is the chucula, are at risk of disappearing, this because of the lack of generational transmission and due to changes in socio-cultural dynamics. Hence the importance of analyzing the production processes of chucula, an analysis that must take into account that it constitutes a food representative of cultural identity, which is highly nutritious and has an export potential. For these reasons, this case study seeks to analyze the aspects by which it is deduced that the value chain of the Jícara brand chucula is a business model based partially on biotrade, with several challenges to be faced, among which the following stand out: redistribution of profits and the recognition of added value in the final product.
