Full textNonverbal communication occurs in healthcare daily. It may be unconscius and unclear, and it may make the patient confused and stressed. The information that the patient receive from the medical staff, can be expressed in both nonverbal and verbal communication. Under the meeting the patient can feel support and security through nonverbal communication. The purpose of this study was to elucidate professional's nonverbal communication in relation to the patient. It was conducted as a literature study where the results were based on fourteen scientific articles. They were retrieved from databases, relevant to nursing research. The results indicate that nonverbal communication is a tool in health care encounter. When the communication process continues even without words, nonverbal communication is expressed in many different ways. There, in among other, the tone, touch, gestures and body language. It demonstrates the importance of nonverbla communication in the relationship. The verbal get at deeper understanding through the nonverbal and it can streghten the relationship between the health professional and patient. Research shows that the medical profession needs to broaden its training of nonverbal communication to optimize the health care encounter. Although more research is needed on the subject.

Full textBackground: As a group, LGBTQ persons tend to suffer from some physical and emotional health issues to a greater extent than the general population. In addition, research has shown that they may receive inferior health care in the form of verbal harassment or denial of care, because of their LGBTQ identity. This is contrary to nurses´ core competencies, which include offering equal care to all patients as well as promoting a non-discriminatory health care environment.Aim: The aim of this study was to illustrate how LGBTQ persons´ experience health care situations and events.Method: A literature review based on ten qualitative studiesResults: The results showed that LGBTQ persons often struggle with “coming out” to health care personnel. Lack of knowledge of LGBTQ issues, discriminatory communication and hetero- and cis-normative assumptions about sexuality and gender identity were prominent factors that generated negative experiences. Negative health care experiences sometimes lead to inferior health care in terms of missed medical examinations, or the choice to not seek health care. Conclusion: It is important for their overall health that LGBTQ persons have positive health care experiences. Negative experiences are due to hetero- and cis-normativity while positive experiences are characterized by openness, acceptance, respect and professionalism. To optimize the experiences and the quality of health care for LGBTQ persons, heath care personnel should be given the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of LGBTQ issues.Key words: attitudes, experiences, LGBTQ persons, healthcare personnel, healthcare

Full textLesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people (LGBTQ) has historically been stigmatized and neglected, both globally and in Sweden nationally. In general individuals not ascribing to heteronormativity have been discriminated in society, and in nursing care and research. A result of the heterosexual norm is that other sexual orientations and gender identities are regarded as abnormal. The nurse meets people belonging to the LGBTQ group on a daily basis, and knowledge of interaction is required. The purpose of this study is to investigate the experiences that LGBTQ people has gained in contact with health care personnel in Sweden. This empirical study is qualitative in design using one open question; “We wish to know your good or less good experiences in the encounter with health professionals in Swedish health care”. Sampling of respondents is by traditional snowballing, electronic snowballing through Facebook and by putting up posters. Data collection is by an electronic form on the Internet. Data from 18 informants is analyzed using qualitative content analysis based on Lundman and Granheim (2008). The results are presented in the domains good experiences and less good experiences. Experiences of neutrality and open-minded staff left the respondents satisfied and with positive experiences. To be excluded and unconfirmed of one’s identity created negative experiences, as well as being violated and receiving an offensive treatment based on one’s sexuality or identity. A less positive experience is being exposed to the heteronormative approach and being valued on the basis of this. A negative experience is created by a faulty or poor communication, influenced by verbal and body language and written communication information. These experiences create a low expectation of the care received by LGBTQ people, and unwillingness to be open about their identity in the context of healthcare provision.

Full textTo promote good public health and quality of care as well as to equalise health inequalities, the increased migration with more foreign-born individuals put more demands on district nurses and nurses' communication in the health care encounter. Purpose: To investigate which strategies the nurse in primary care used to bridge language barriers and to investigate whether there was any correlation between these strategies and how they perceived the quality of care. Method: A comparative cross-sectional and descriptive study with quantitative approach. Questionnaires were mailed to nurses in health care clinics in municipalities with a high share of foreign-born. Results: The primarily used strategies was body language as well as professional interpreter. The nurses perceived that the quality of care was relatively high whenever it occurred a language barrier. Moderate correlation was seen between perceived patient participation and the use of professional interpreters and between quality of care and the use of materials for nursing interventions. Significant differences in the quality of care and how nurses perceived the quality of communication was found. Conclusion: Besides that nurses adequately use and develop different strategies in bridging language barriers, also a warm and professional approach may have an important role in the communication to achieve appropriate nursing and public health.

Full textBackground: One of the goals in the health care is that good health is achieved. For the nurse to achieve this goal he or she is in great need of his or her skills and qualities. The person-centered care is the basis of the nurse profession whereupon the respectful communication between the nurse and patient is essential. Similarly the verbal and non-verbal language is important for the communication. Stress and lack of time can lead to nurses experiencing the given information as inadequate. Thus, it is important to examine the nurses’ communication from a patient perspective. Aim: To explore patients’ experiences of nurses’ communication within the healthcare meeting. Method: This study is a literature review of existing material, whereupon twelve articles were developed by searches in two databases. The selected articles were analyzed by the authors according to Friberg's method, whom then presented the new results in main and subthemes. Results: In this literature review the results are presented in two main themes; (1) The nurse characteristics in the communication and (2) Significant aspects in the communication. These generated in two subthemes each; (1) Support and involve and also Commitment and respectfulness (2) Language and Responsiveness. Discussion: Communication is significant in the healthcare and thus becomes a complex area for the nurses to encourage in the all patients care. The main findings discussed in this study is the nurse’s characteristics, knowledge, language and the patient participation. The results of this study were also discussed based on Jean Watson’s theory of human caring, as well on the basis of the consensus concept health.

Full textBackground: Substance use disorder is a societal problem that leads to both mental and physical harm to the addict, this in turn leads to hospitalizations. Studies show that people who are addicted to substances have felt stigmatized and that they have been treated badly in healthcare. Aim: The aim was to describe the nurse´s experiences in the care meeting of people with a substance use disorder. Method: A descriptive literature study. Ten scientific articles were used, these were found in the databases PubMed and Cinahl. Result: The results showed that nurses feel insecure in providing care to patients with a substance addiction and that they experience feelings of mistrust and manipulation, frustration and threats and violence in the care meeting. The care meeting is affected by attitudes and a lack of knowledge about the patients´ problems. They found that personal experiences led to a better understanding but that there was a need for more education. Conclusion: In this literature study, the results show that the nurses feel insecure in caring for patients with a substance use disorder, they experience emotions such as mistrust, manipulation, stigmatization and fear of threats and violence that make them distance themselves from the patients. Due to these feelings and the lack of knowledge, the care encounter with this patient group suffers. An increased knowledge of the nurse gave a better understanding of the individuals and facilitated the care meeting.

Full textBackground: To have a non-conforming sexual orientation or gender identity means beingexposed to microaggressions in everyday life. LGBTQ people are therefore often cautiouswith the way they disclose information regarding their sexuality or gender. Since LGBTQpeople tend to have greater ill-health than the rest of the population, quality in health careencounters is seen as an important factor in improving their health. A health care relationship involves both health care provider and patient, where both parts bring along their singular dispositions into the health care encounter. Questions regarding the way health care providers meet LGBTQ patients are raised, as well as how patients manage their non-conforming sexual or gender identities within health care encounters.Aim: The aim of this study was, from a relational perspective, to examine how LGBTQpatients give meaning to the health care encounter. Methods: A qualitative review of literature containing ten scientific articles was conducted. The articles were examined using an SBU’s modified review template, analysed with content analysis and compiled with inspiration from Polit and Beck, as well as Friberg. The databases CINAHL and PsycInfo were used for data collection.Findings: Four themes emerged, which highlight important aspects of the health careexperience phenomenon: health care providers’ awareness and knowledge, health careproviders’ attitudes, patients’ vulnerability and patients’ proactive measures. There wasextensive coverage for the health care staff's lack of awareness about the existence of LGBTQ patients, for the insufficient knowledge of both general and health-related LGBTQ issues, as well as for non-caring attitudes. But the opposite, which is to say caring health care encounters, were also documented. Health care encounters often implied for patients a complex management of their coming-out, as well as an effort on their part to make sure that they as patients be well received. Conclusion: Results show that different and complementary elements constitute LGBTQpatients’ experiences of health care encounters. Whether these encounters are perceived as caring or non-caring seems to affect patients’ health positively in the first case and negatively in the other.Key words: coming-out, experiences, LGBTQ, knowledge, patients, nurses, health careencounter

Full textAim: To enlighten what is included in health care programs regarding the caring encounter and support for cancer patients. Background: Due to the increasing number of people that are diagnosed with cancer, nurses are in need of more knowledge regarding caring encounters and support to cancer patients.Method: To analyze data using a qualitative study of literature concerning nursing care - and psychosocial aspects in health care programs.Result: Participation through information, support through communication, noticing mental illness and dealing with existential questions have shown to be important parts and are the result’s four thematic areas. Conclusions: Health care programs have shown to contain an uneven distribution of information concerning caring encounters and support to cancer patient. However the information altogether, which is presented in the result of the study, shows a relatively multifaceted picture of how caring encounters and support can be given in the various phases in cancer patients’ disease progression.Clinical implication: This study can be a good source of information for nurses regarding the care and support in their daily encounters with cancer patients. By offering useful advice and strategies, this study can create an increased sense of self-confidence in difficult situations that nurse’s might face.

Full textBackground In today's heterogeneous society, transcultural perspective on nursing is crucial when it comes to patient satisfaction. Studies show that patients who do not understand or speak the languages of the healthcare professionals have a higher risk of misunderstanding their own situation and treatment. Also, cultural differences in verbal and nonverbal communication can be a obstacle for good care. To promote and improve a good and equal care the patients experience needs to be explored. Aim The aim of this study was to describe patients experience of care meeting a transcultural perspective. Method In this literature review 19 scientific articles were included. The included articles represented both a qualitative and quantitative design. PubMed and CINAHL databases were used as well as a free text search to be able to find relevant articles which were able to answer the aim of the study. Articles were reviewed using Whittemoore and Knafls integrated analysis. Results The result identified five themes that were Patients' experiences of the healthcare, Patients' experience of the healthcare culture, Practical experiences of the healthcare, Patients' strategies for managing healthcare situations and Different prerequisites within healthcare. The theme Patients’ experiences described a spectrum of perceived emotions, from being satisfied and grateful to feeling of hopelessness, discriminated, worried and fearful. Under theme Patients' experience of the care culture perceived deficiencies that were due to cultural difference were described. Within the Patients' practical experiences, the experiences that the patients had in the form of access to an interpreter, care costs or information were highlighted. The theme Patient strategies describes that the different experiences patient have and how they handle their care. We also looked at Different prerequisites within healthcare that reflected patients' wishes and experiences that could contribute to a better care experience. Conclusions The study highlights that it is a complicated question that does not have a clear answer. It is likely that the experiences of the care depend on the conditions of care in a specific country, the type of care and the cultural background of the patient and the care staff's competence and attitude. The literature overview shows that the lack of information, communication and knowledge of the other's culture can play a crucial role in the quality of the care meeting.

Full textBackground: Overweight and obesity among children and adolescents has increased dramatically over the past 20 years. In Sweden, the prevalence of obesity increased from 1 % to 4 %. There are several causes of overweight and obesity in children and adolescents. Some of them are genetic factors, food consumption, environmental factors and lifestyle factors. Aim: The aim is to describe the factors that affect health care encounter between the nurse and the parents of children and adolescents who are overweight or obese. Method: The study was conducted as a literature review and consisted of 13 articles, 10 with qualitative approach and three with quantitative approach. These were brought from the databases CINAHL and PubMed. Results: Both obstacles and opportunities that may arise in the care encounter between the nurse and the patients was identified. These obstacles and opportunities were presented in two categories with a total of five subcategories; Guilt and shame of the parents, denial by the parents regarding the child's weight, raising of the awareness of the benefits from weight loss, long-term trust facilitates care meetings, and customized care in the meeting between the nurse and parent. Conclusion: Several factors were identified which are important for the care encounter between nurses and parents. The factors that preclude the health care encounter, both parties may influence for the better.

Full textBackground Substance-use disorder is common in society and involves harmful use of different substances, for example. alcohol and drugs. The use is in progress despite adverse consequences for the person's life situation and increases the risk of unstable health. Which leads to an increased need for healthcare. Research has shown that people with substance-use disorder experience exclusion, stigma and shame in contact with healthcare Aim To describe nursing experience of meeting people with substance-use disorder and the nurse's attitudes in the healthcare meeting, as well as describing the survey articles of the included articles. Method A descriptive literature study. Ten items are included in the result. Article search was made in the PubMed and Cinahl databases. Discussion was conducted between the authors to compile an objective result. Results Nurses had different opinions about if substance-use disorder were a disease or not. Persons with substance-use disorder were considered irresponsible for their health status according to nurses. Nurses described how they experienced the patient group as erratic and manipulative and that caused increased workload. Furthermore, a sense of frustration arose over their own missile and the uncertainty surrounding the patient group. Requests for education were expressed. According to the nurses, patience and support were important parts of care and to not reflect their own opinion. Conclusion Depending on whether nurses saw the substance-use disorder as a state of illness or as self-inflicted, positive or negative attitudes and experiences have emerged. Knowledge and education in substance-use disorder is necessary to maintain an ethical approach within the nurse's profession.

The caring relationship and the caring encounter are the life-space of caring. A caring encounter involving an interpreter should be seen as an interaction between three or possibly more persons. This paper seeks to describe nurses' experiences of the relationships in such encounters.
Nurses with experience in using interpretation were asked to answer a survey comprising quantitative and qualitative questions. Additionally, two semi-structured interviews were conducted for clarification and depth. Answers were analyzed using manifest content analysis.
Three main categories were found: security, interpreter technique, and cultural aspects. Seven sub-categories were found: relatives (the relationships with relatives take precedence), loss (different aspects of the relationship are affected), norms (different norm systems complicate the relationship), profession (a tension between professional and personal relationships), skill (the impact of the skills of the parties), telephone vs. physical interpreter (preferences vary among nurses), and acquisition of interpreters (the relationship is a factor when enlisting an interpreter). The interrelationships of the main categories and sub-categories are described and their meaning discussed.
Nurses can increase the probability of achieving a caring connection by preparing well for interpretation as well as helping patients to gain proficiency in using an interpreter. A professional relationship, characterized by caring, with the interpreter will also facilitate a caring connection with the patient.

Full textBackground In Sweden, 100-200 children are diagnosed with Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) annually. Having a child in the family with ASD affects the whole family and can initiate feelings of anxiety, grief and anger. The diagnosis involves several contacts with multiple healthcare professionals, situations where the family is in great need of support. Familycentered care aims to involve the whole family in the care process, and collaboration, participation and respect are important components. Aim The aim was to describe families' experiences of support in the healthcare meeting when a child in the family has Autism spectrum disorders. Method The study was conducted as a literature review. Article searches were made in three databases relevant to the topic, as well as an additional manual search. Fifteen articles were analyzed with an integrated analysis inspired by Kristensson (2014). Results The results revealed a specific need for support when families have a child with ASD, such as respectful care, personalized information, guidance during and after the diagnosis process and support in terms of including the family in the care process. Conclusions Families with children with ASD experience a predominant lack of support in the care meeting such as unpleasant treatment, lack of adequate information and guidance, and lack of participation in the child's care. Through family-centered care, the nurse and the multidisciplinary team can consider the needs of the entire family, which leads to increased family support. Thus, the professional team has an important role in providing familycentered care as it can improve families' care experiences. It is of great importance that the multidisciplinary team gain more knowledge about ASD, and also receives more training in how to provide support to families with children with ASD.

Full textBackground: According to the Swedish Social Service Act, all healthcare professionals have an obligation to report any suspicion that a child has been abused by their parent. When it comes to identifying signs of physical abuse the nurses has a central role because it can be easier for a person that sees children and families on a regular basis to identify abuse. Aim: The aim of the literature study was to describe nurses´ experience in the healthcare meeting with children suspected of being subjected to physical abuse by their parent. Method: A general literature study with qualitative approach based on nine studies. Result: The result emerged into two main categories: to handle a feared perpetrator and to lack support. The subcategories that emerged were; the lack of knowledge, lack transparency about the registration process, feeling before duty, difficult meeting with the parents, uncertainty and stressful work situation. Lack of knowledge, support and challenges at work were perceived as a contributing factor to the nurse's sense of insufficiency. Conclusion: Guidelines and laws should be highlighted in the nurse's primary education to reduce the feeling of insufficiency. All healthcare professionals should receive adequate education in the subject area, as daily contact with children may occur.

Full textBackground: In Sweden, there are 34 000 homeless people and in Malmö there are 2 400 people living in homelessness. The widespread homelessness is expected to be partly due to a tight situation in the housing market, which is also presumed to worsen the next years. Substance abuse and mental illness are often large contributing reasons why people fall into homelessness or have difficulty getting out of the situation. Lung diseases, abscess, anemia and respiratory infections are common occurring diseases among homeless people. Previous research also shows that homeless people have increased risk of dying prematurely. In Malmö, there are various health interventions targeted to homeless people and drug addicts, those measures include Stadsmissionshälsan and Sprutbytet. The nurse and care team's role is to work together to provide safe care. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate homeless peoples experiences with the health care. Method: An empirical interview study with qualitative approach was used and the study consisted of seven informants. Semi-structured questions were used for data collection and analysed by Burnards (1991) analytical model, which was modified by the authors. Results: The results show that to be treated like any other was among the most important for the homeless. The results showed that the good experiences were characterised by good treatment and open-mindedness, which led to a feeling of acceptance. The less good care encounters were described with feelings that the nurses and health professionals had preconceived ideas which led to a rejected feeling among the informants. Conclusion: To make the health encounters successful, the homeless persons need to experience respect, open-mindedness and thoughtfulness. Regardless of the housing situation, all patients should be treated on equal terms.

Full textObjective: to highlight midwife's experience of care meeting with women with fear of childbirth. Design: qualitative interviews analyzed using content analysis. Settings: the study was conducted on a medium sized childbirth clinic in Northern Sweden. Participants: six midwives employees in active service at the delivery ward. Findings:Three descriptive categories emerged; To perceive and respectful response to fear; To create a trusting relationship and To develop in the profession. Key conclusion: The results showed that midwives regarded the fear of childbirth as something normal and expressed that most women wore some form of fear. Presence and dialogue emerged as key prerequisites for a trusting relationship with the childbirth scared woman and midwives demanded forums in the business who could promote their professional development. Implications for practice:The results suggest that midwives have no regular reflection and tutoring as an opportunity to develop and strengthen the health care encounter with the woman with fear of childbirth
Nyholm, Elin. "Digitala vårdmöten : En litteraturöversikt om patienters och sjuksköterskors upplevelser av vårdmöten i en digital kontext." Thesis, Ersta Sköndal Bräcke högskola, Institutionen för vårdvetenskap, 2019. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:esh:diva-7957.
Full textBackground: Meetings between patient and nurse are built up by the communication between them, the context of the care environment and a mutual understanding of the context in which they meet. Security, respect and participation are important to establishing a care relationship. The digital information and communication opportunities increase accessibility and enable dialogue without a physical meeting. As a result, several meetings between patients and nurses will take place outside the traditional environment for a care meeting. This poses challenges based on both the security aspect and the relationship-creating dimension in a care meeting. Aim: The aim was to elucidate patients' and nurses' experiences of care meetings in a digital context. Method: The method was a literature review based on eight qualitative articles. The articles were retrieved from the CINAHL Complete and PubMed databases and analyzed and thematized. Results: The results have been analyzed from both perspective and type of digital context and summarized in five identified themes: Security, Integrity, Participation, Roles and Relationship. Discussion: The discussion was rooted in Katie Eriksson's charitable care theory. The patient's positive experiences of the meeting environment were discussed in relation to the shortcomings the nurse experienced. The digital forms of meeting have the potential to contribute to positive experiences of accessibility, security and participation for patients. The results were also discussed based on the possibility of having a holistic and person-centered approach in the digital forms of meeting.

Full textBackground Intimate partner violence occurs globally regardless of social, economic or cultural affiliation, where women are affected to a greater extent than men. The violence results in short-term and long-term health issues for the victim in the form of, amongst other things, mental injuries such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), physical injuries and low self-esteem. According to current laws and ethical guidelines, nurses must work to promote and restore health, prevent diseases and alleviate suffering. Nurses therefore has a responsibility to pay attention to and help the abused woman. Aim The purpose was to describe what facilitators and barriers there are for the nurse to identify women who have been subjected to intimate partner violence in the care meeting. Method A literature-based unsystematic literature review with current research was conducted to compile the results. Searches were performed in the PubMed and CiNAHL databases. This study used integrated data analysis as a method to process and compile data. A total of 19 scientific articles were included in the Degree project. Results The results were presented in two main categories; the nurse's skills and lack of knowledge as well as feelings and attitudes. Facilitators were reported based on symptoms and signs of exposure to violence, communication and environmental factors as well as screening tools as alternatives. Barriers were reported as a lack of knowledge and inexperience. Emotions and attitudes based on the nurse's values, myths and fears as well as the abused woman's norms and feelings of guilt, shame and fears constituted both as facilitators and barriers in the identification of the abused woman. The result also presented the normalization process of violence. Conclusions Nurse's personal values and myths about intimate partner violence can contribute to the lack of identification, together with ignorance, fears and inexperience. The woman exposed to violence may feel guilt and/or shame and that the violence may be stigmatized. Education in the subject can be seen as beneficial in increasing the opportunity and reducing barriers to identifying the woman exposed to violence.

Full textBackground: Home health care is an activity that involves care meetings with patients with a migrant background. Good communication is considered essential for district nurses to be able to provide individualized information and prevent disease and promote health. The communication is considered more difficult when patients and district nurses speak different languages or use different body language. Purpose: The aim of the study was to investigate the district nurses experiences of caring meetings with patients with and immigrant background in home health care. Method: A quantitative descriptive design was used based on a questionnaire. The material was analyzed in SPSS version 20, except for the open ended questions that were analysed by inspiration from qualitative content analysis. Results: The results portray district nurses experiences in home helth care in a county in southren Sweden and how their experiences vary. This study shows that the majority of the participants have experience of caring meetings with patients with immigrant background. Participants identified needs for more training and education about intercultural communication, religion and culture. The majority of respondents believe that caring meetings become aggravated by language differences. Conclusion: The study shows that there is a need for increased knowledge in this important field and that the study should be repeated to obtain a larger material. This knowledge could be obtained in basic training for nurses, in specialized training or in-service training at the workplace. More knowledge would be able to create better conditions for a successful care meeting and nursing of good quality.

Full textBackground: Migration, culture and language barriers pose major challenges in healthcare. The nurses’ professional responsibility is based on seeing the patient in their context without connection to the perception of the outside world. It has been shown that nurses experienced difficulties with satisfying adapted care due to lack of communication with patients with different cultural and language backgrounds. Aim: The aim was to explore nurses’ experiences of transcultural care meetings. Method: A general literature review according to Friberg (2017) was conducted based on ten scientific qualitative articles. The articles were obtained from the databases CINAHL Complete and PubMed with the keywords: experience, nurses, nursing, multicultural, transcultural and culture. Results: The result was presented by three main themes. The first was: The nurses’ experiences of communication, which illustrated language barriers to communication, communication strategies and the need for an interpreter when language barriers occurred. The second theme was: Nurses’ cultural awareness and culture competence which illustrated culture awareness among nurses and lack of confidence in their knowledge. The third theme was: The nurses’ perceived feelings that illustrated the challenges and uncertainty among nurses. Discussion: The authors discussed the importance of cultural competence and the role of the nurse in transcultural nursing and person-centered care, the importance of the interpreter in the care encounter. The discussion was highlighted in relation to Madeleine Leiningers’ nursing theory, previous research and the authors' reflections.

Full textBackground: Due to globalization and migration, Sweden increasingly becomes a more multicultural society, which in turn increases the number of transcultural encounters taking place in the healthcare. Research has indicated that nurses experience difficulties facing the patients’ cultural and lingual background. Through awareness and appreciation of the challenges and opportunities, the nurses can develop knowledge and competence required for the promotion of transcultural care encounters. Aim: The purpose of the literature review is to describe the nurses’ experiences of transcultural encounters in health care. Methods: The study were conducted as a literature review and was based on one quantitative and 14 qualitative scientific articles. Searches are performed in the databases CINAHL, PubMed and SveMed+. Result: The literature review showed that during transcultural care some nurses had a holistic approach which facilitated a trusting relationship with the patients. On the other hand, the lack of cultural competence that the nurses experienced led to a constant challenge and uncertainty when encountering patients from other cultures. In these situations the nurses considered that misunderstandings, misinterpretations or incorrect patient care could occur. Body language, eye contact and empathy were considered important tools to compensate for the language barrier, and to have resources in some form of interpreter was desirable. Conclusion: Nurses describe that having a holistic view of the human being facilitates the care relationship in transcultural care encounters. They also point out that difficulties arise related to cultural and linguistic misconceptions which jeopardize the quality of the healthcare. Consequently, it is important that resources such as knowledge, interpreter and required time are made available for the nurses in order to promote a systematic approach during transcultural care encounters in the healthcare sector.

Full textBackground: Digital healthcare consultations is something used more and more, especially during COVID-19 but also in accordance with various goals for digitization. Video consultations has proven to work well as an alternative to regular visits and telephone calls, but there is no clear view on how physiotherapists experience digital meetings. Objective: To investigate physiotherapists' experiences of digital care meetings compared to traditional physiotherapist visits in primary care. Method: The study has a qualitative design. Data was collected through 5 semi-structured interviews with physiotherapists and analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Result: The analysis of the interviews resulted in 6 categories and 15 subcategories. The categories were; Digital meetings can make it easier for the patient and the physiotherapist, The physiotherapists' work is developed and adapted during the pandemic, Challenging to get good digital meetings, Opportunities with digital meetings, Limitations with digital meetings and Potential for improvement. Conclusion: Digital care meetings in physiotherapy could be an alternative when patients want it and for visits including conversation, observation, advice, training and follow-up, and where there is no need for a more thorough manual examination. Digital meetings can make it easier for both the patient and the physiotherapist, but further development of technology and accessibility is needed to improve the work with the patient.
