Abstract:
A Amazônia tem uma dimensão discursiva e sua representatividade se constitui a partir das criações simbólico-literárias que por meio dos romances contribuem para a configuração imagética dessa região. Destaca-se neste estudo a narrativa etnográfica de Mario Vargas Llosa em sua obra El Hablador (1987). Nela é descrito um grupo indígena da Amazônia peruana a partir de duas visões, a do indígena e a de um jovem escritor do Peru que se encontra em Florença. Esta reflexão objetiva a análise das duas perspectivas apresentadas por Vargas Llosa com o intuito de ler a obra como enunciação sobre a Selva Amazônica peruana relacionada ao homem local, ao espaço geográfico, às tradições culturais e à natureza. El Hablador pode ser considerada uma narrativa de cunho etnográfico pois revela uma representação do indígena construída a partir dos procedimentos etnográficos de observação, recolecção e registro de dados.

Abstract:
O presente artigo apresenta um estudo comparativo entre os romances La granda kaldrono (“O grande caldeirão”), obra originalmente escrita em Esperanto, do escritor escocês John Islay Francis, e La casa verde, do escritor peruano Mario Vargas Llosa. Objetiva-se comparar o universo temático dos dois romances, desvelar a estrutura similar presente neles, as técnicas utilizadas pelos autores para apresentar os temas escolhidos e o uso do tempo. Em relação ao tema, Francis e Vargas Llosa seguem caminhos diferentes que, ao final, chegam a uma perspectiva semelhante. O primeiro elege como tema a guerra e suas consequências na vida do homem comum. O segundo elege tema relacionado ao Peru, mas que nos leva a refletir sobre a América Latina, explorada por aqueles que a conquistaram, que destruíram seu modo de vida originário e deixaram nela um sentimento de desamparo e de falta de identidade. Os dois romances exigem do leitor muita reflexão e concentração para ligar todos os fios magistralmente tecidos pelos autores, que entrecruzam duas gerações, duas histórias cujas personagens por vezes parecem caminhar lado a lado, dialogando e vivendo conflitos semelhantes.

Abstract:
Peru approached the twenty-first century a polarized country. In the year 2000, with increased authoritarian control over the legislative and judicial branches along with constitutional reforms paving the way for his re-reelection, President Alberto Fujimori campaigned for a third term in office. His main electoral opponent, Alejandro Toledo, along with opposition leaders, spearheaded massive demonstrations in Lima accusing the government of repression, corruption, drug trafficking, and electoral fraud. Opposition figures were joined by grassroots social movements, unions, students, and human rights activists who opposed the regime's repressive and corrupt practices, which included by now reports of torture and extrajudicial killings. When Fujimori first became president a decade earlier he had inherited a country ravaged by widespread poverty, hyperinflation, nearly depleted foreign reserves, a growing narcotics trade, and two armed terrorist groups: the MRTA (Tupac Amarú Revolutionary Movement) and the Shining Path (Sendero Luminoso). Both were on the offensive across the country, the Shining Path most prominently, planting car bombs in the capital, kidnapping and killing civilians, and besieging towns and villages across the country. Looking for a way out of economic and terrorist violence, Peruvians were faced with two options in 1990: Alberto Fujimori, an ex-university president and agricultural engineer of Japanese descent, and Mario Vargas Llosa, a white, upper-middle-class novelist and liberal intellectual. Though Fujimori was less well-known, many Peruvians saw Vargas Llosa's center-right coalition as a repackaged version of the same traditional political groups that had lead the country into crisis. Fujimori would appear much like Hugo Chávez later in Venezuela, a populist outsider ready to challenge the traditional party system. Many saw Fujimori's succinct rhetoric as refreshing when contrasted with Vargas Llosa's elaborate speeches, especially since the former president, Alan García, who fled the country in 1992 on corruption charges, was also well-known for his loquacious disposition.

When Alberto Fujimori campaigned for president of Peru W i n 1990, he ran on a platform in which he promised to institute a moderate program of gradual economic stabilization, including the privatization of certain state-owned enterprises. These promises were instrumental in his scoring an upset victory over writer Mario Vargas Llosa, who had been the odds-on favorite to win just three months earlier — and, thus, to become Peru's third popularly elected president in his country's ten years of continuous democracy.Nevertheless, soon after Alán García relinquished the presidential office, in July 1990, to the newly-elected president, those election promises underwent a dramatic reversal. On the grounds that he had inherited a bankrupt country which left him no alternative (no habia otra cosa que hacef), the new president moved quickly to establish a stabilization program of classic orthodoxy in August 1990 (Fujimori, 1990).

Manuel GonzÁlez prada (1844-1918), like inca garcilaso de la vega, César vallejo, josé marÍa arguedas, and mario vargas llosa, ranks among the top Peruvian literary figures, but only in Peru, where his work is hotly debated by literati, social scientists, historians, politicians, and journalists. Outside Peru he rates no more than the inclusion in anthologies of one of his poems; his most famous essay, “Nuestros indios” (“Our Indians”); or the occasional critical article on his work. However, with the Cuban José Martí (1853-95), González Prada is a founder of Latin American modernism, a movement that critics generally accept as running roughly from the publication of Rubén Darío's Azul, in 1888, to Darío's death, in 1916. Gordon Brotherston notes that Darío coined the term modernismo the same year he published Azul (vii). There are many reasons there has been less interest in González Prada than in Martí and other modernists. To begin with, Darío, in an 1888 visit to Peru, met with Ricardo Palma but not González Prada (Castro). Palma, writing in a more traditional style—even though he invented a genre, tradiciones—was the establishment's literary darling, while González Prada, always the innovator in style and an agitator in subject matter, remained largely unknown outside his native land. Thus, it made perfect sense that the maker of literary movements would visit the internationally known Palma but not González Prada, who could not add to his fame and expanding literary networks. Furthermore, when Darío later went to New York he turned his epistolary relationship with Martí into a personal friendship (Henríquez Ureña 93). In the United States there is much more interest in Martí, who lived here, than in González Prada, who did not. Hispanic modernism is typically understood to include the like-minded people whom Darío knew personally, such as Martí, Julián del Casal (Cuba), Manuel Gutiérrez Nájera (Mexico), Ricardo Jaimes Freyre (Bolivia), and Juan Ramón Jiménez (Spain), and to exclude those whom he did not, such as Adela Zamudio (Bolivia) and González Prada. Finally, González Prada's anarchism, his feminism, and his tell-it-like-it-is essays did not endear him to many people.

Resumo: Escritor, dramaturgo, ensaísta e crítico literário, Mario Vargas Llosa, foi laureado com o prêmio Nobel de Literatura no ano de 2010, tornou-se uma das principais figuras intelectuais do Peru contemporâneo. Muitos de seus livros foram influenciados pela sua percepção sobre a sociedade peruana e suas próprias experiências, alcançando reconhecimento com obras como Los Jefes, La ciudad e los perros, La Casa Verde, Los Cachorros e Conversación en la Catedral. Estas foram produzidas em um período conturbado da sociedade peruana, imersa no processo de modernização e migração interna da serra para a costa durante as décadas de 1950 e 1960. E são estas obras que serão objeto de investigação neste estudo, que visa analisar o escritor peruano como um literato engajado que intervém em sua sociedade também através dos romances, utilizando-os como instrumento para se expressar. Procurando compreender também, até que ponto suas obras das décadas de 1950 e 1960 dialogam com outras áreas do conhecimento nos debates sobre os problemas enfrentados por sua sociedade. Buscando, ainda, entender suas concepções sobre literatura, romance e o papel do literato, com o intuito de situá-lo em sua trajetória intelectual, partindo do pressuposto que os romances estudados nesta pesquisa podem ser compreendidos como uma oportunidade que lhe garante a expressão de sua inquietude intelectual em busca de estabelecer tipificações e interpretações em torno da realidade peruana e latino-americana. Pretende-se também identificar como os enredos do romance demonstram essas transformações, levando em consideração a literatura engajada proposta por Vargas Llosa e como essas mudanças ocorreram e levaram a uma reconfiguração do modo de compreender o conceito de criollo, investigando profundamente as relações sociais entre os habitantes já residentes em Lima e os migrantes advindos da serra

Many of his books were influenced by their perception of Peruvian society and his own experiences, achieving recognition with books like Los Jefes, La ciudad y los perros, La Casa Verde, Los Cachorros and Conversación en la Catedral. These books were produced in a troubled period of Peruvian society, immersed in the modernization and internal migration of the mountain to the coast during the 1950s and 1960s process. And these books will be the subject of our investigation in this study, which aims to analyze the Peruvian writer engaged as a writer that also affects its society through novels, using them as a tool to express himself. Also seeking to understand the extent to which his works of the 1950s and 1960s dialogue with other areas of knowledge in the debates on the problems faced by your society. We also seek to understand your conceptions of literature, romance and the role of the writer, in order to place him in his intellectual trajectory, assuming that the novels studied in this research can be understood as an opportunity which guarantees the expression of his intellectual restlessness, seeking to establish typifications and interpretations around the Peruvian and Latin America reality. Sostiene la hipótesis de la existencia de un periodo de la narrativa de Vargas Llosa en al cual predomina una estética posmoderna y que este periodo se iniciaría alrededor de 1973, anunciándose en Pantaleón y las visitadoras y se confirmaría en La tía Julia y el escribidor (1977). Señala las características principales de la novela posmoderna. Establece las relaciones entre estos los conceptos posmodernidad y mundialización de la cultura empleando elementos de las teorías de la recepción de textos, el concepto de mundialización como lo concibe Renato Ortiz y la Teoría de los polisistemas concebida por Itamar Even-Zohar. Describe los elementos posmodernistas en dos novelas del autor Nobel, La tía Julia y el escribidor (1977) y Travesuras de la niña mala (2006). Precisamente, estas obran son la base de las hipótesis secundarias; la primera de ellas es que la asunción de la cultura de masas marca el punto de inflexión de acceso a lo posmoderno que estaría graficado en la opción por el humor y la novela rosa; la segunda es que uno de los elementos comunes a todas las obras de este periodo posmoderno es el abandono del manejo del tiempo como medio para trabajar unidades independientes en la narración, que se vinculan o aproximan por un criterio estético o emocional para reemplazarlo por un desarrollo lineal que privilegia la narratividad por sobre lo discursivo.

Analiza cómo construye Vargas Llosa a los personajes femeninos de su obra teatral iniciática, y como es que el autor pretende plasmar, de manera crítica, las nulas opciones para la mujer en un entorno adverso. Con la publicación de La Señorita de Tacna, Kathie y el hipopótamo y La Chunga, primeras obras de teatro de Mario Vargas Llosa, los personajes femeninos del autor, que habían quedado relegados a un rol secundario en su narrativa, protagonizan la acción. Se analiza en las obras el tratamiento de lo femenino, ya que los personajes no se sumergen en estereotipos, son más bien complejos, de pinceladas conductuales diversas. La hipótesis es que el discurso de lo femenino en la obra dramática de Vargas Llosa faculta al autor recrear la violencia del orden patriarcal. El personaje femenino es un ser complejo, abnegado y angelical, pero a la vez malvado y pasional, lo que advierte un ser femenino que pretende alejarse de los límites de los estereotipos establecidos por el mundo simbólico. La configuración de este orden, permite el desarrollo de las ideas del autor relacionadas al amor, la sexualidad, la violencia y la libertad; resaltando cómo la fémina intenta rebelarse y fracasa ante los esquemas de lo establecido, pues el orden patriarcal existente la derrota. Asimismo, el recurso del meta-texto en la obra teatral recrea y hace explícita la violencia inherente en el universo de lo femenino.

Resumo: Este trabalho trata da conjuntura política peruana de 1987 a 1990, que possibilitou a aparição política do Engenheiro Alberto Fujimori Fujimori e seu posterior triunfo eleitoral que o levou a ser eleito Presidente da República. Em base a testemunhos de outros personagens envolvidos nessa conjuntura, textos de alguns autores sobre o tema, pesquisas de opinião pública, dados encontrados em jornais peruanos da época e a observação direta do autor sobre os acontecimentos; os principais momentos do processo político são reconstruídos, verificando as reações do eleitorado peruano e a atuação das principais forças e figuras políticas em fatos ocorridos antes e durante a campanha eleitoral. Na análise dos dados apresentados, encontramos várias circunstânciasconjunturais que permitem o triunfo eleitoral de Fujimori, principalmente, uma situação de crise no sistema de representação de partidos políticos no Peru e, intimamente relacionado com isto, uma forte rejeição do eleitorados peruano à classe política tradicional desse país
Abstract: This work deals with the peruvian political context of 1987 to 1990 which allowed for the polítical appearence of Engineer Alberto Fujimori Fujimori and his subsequent electorial triumph resulting in his election as President of the Republic. Based upon testimony of personalities involved in this context, texts of some authors about the theme, public opinion research, data from the Peruvian press during the epoch and direct observations of the researcher about the happenings; the principal moments of the political process are reconstructed, verifying the reactions of the peruvian electorate and the actuation of the principal political forces and figures in facts occuring before and during the electorial campaign. 'n the analysis of the data presented, we encountered varias contextual circumstances that permitted the electorial triumph of Fujimori. Principally, a situation of crisis in the system of representation of political parties in Peru and, intimately related to this, a strong rejection by the peruvian electorate of the traditional political class of this country

Abstract:
This dissertation asserts that the tortuous relationship Spanish American literature had with cosmopolitanism since the Wars of Independence reached a turning point towards the end of the second half of the twentieth century. While the literary production of the nineteenth and most of the twentieth century was centred on the Spanish American nation and the continent, contemporary literature has become increasingly deterritorialized, and has begun to present narrative worlds and discuss issues that transcend this circumscribed universe. The discerning of this articulation of global issues in contemporary literature – which I contend is predicated on the concept of cosmopolitanism – is the primary objective of this investigation. The five novels examined here are Elena Poniatowska’s La “Flor de Lis” (1988), Mario Vargas Llosa’s El Paraíso en la otra esquina (2003) and El sueño del celta (2010), and Jorge Volpi’s El fin de la locura (2003) and No será la Tierra (2006). This study aims to describe and assess an evolving perspective on the treatment of cosmopolitanism in Spanish America. I trace the shift from the previous generations’ main preoccupation with aesthetic cosmopolitanism, which sought to engage Latin American literary discourse with the Western canon, to what I identify as the current political implication of the concept. To this end, I show that whereas mid-twentieth century authors displaced cosmopolitanism in favour of more politically expedient concepts, authors now plot it in their novels as a means of discussing issues of identity and citizenship in an increasingly globalized world.

La presente investigación analiza la dinámica del surgimiento del movimiento Libertad, centrándose, principalmente, en tres grandes factores que se consideran claves en este. Estos son: El movimiento de rechazo a la propuesta de estatizar la banca, el nuevo mensaje político liberal y el liderazgo de Mario Vargas Llosa, el cual es visto como una pieza clave dentro de la dinámica estudiada. La tesis se centra en cómo estos tres factores convergen y le otorgan fuerza al proyecto liberal que traían los actores centrales de este movimiento político, los cuales hacía algunos años habían visto en Mario Vargas Llosa a una figura carismática capaz de liderar la nueva agrupación. Se percibe, además, como estos actores esperaron el momento oportuno, la propuesta de estatización de la banca de Alan García, para entrar en escena y aparecer a la cabeza de la oposición que se había conformado a esta medida de gobierno. Desde este ‘movimiento anti-estatización’, que acaba derrotando al presidente García, Mario Vargas Llosa y sus aliados conformarán Libertad. Sobre la ideología liberal, esta se estudia a partir de la coherencia ideológica que le dio al movimiento, lo que permitió la unión de Vargas Llosa con algunos intelectuales que fueron influyentes dentro de este, y cómo a partir del Movimiento Libertad el liberalismo se volvió hegemónico entre las élites económicas e influyentes de la sociedad peruana. iv La investigación se realiza a partir de entrevistas a actores que participaron del movimiento, fuentes primarias, como diarios, revistas, o testimonios de los propios actores de Libertad y, finalmente, libros y trabajos de investigación que estudian a esta agrupación política. En la investigación se halla que Libertad surge a partir de la voluntad y la organización de estos intelectuales liberales, gracias a la popular figura de Vargas Llosa y al error político de Alan García, quien no calculó la gran oposición que lograría su propuesta de estatización

Il volume propone un ricco itinerario che parte da un colloquio di José Miguel Oviedo con Vargas Llosa (Firenze, 2008), e attraversa poi singoli aspetti dell’opera dei due autori. Lo accompagna una documentazione fotografica e un DVD con un’elaborazione dell’opera visiva di Eielson, dipinti e poesie.
