Abstract:
Many people already understand that the impact of climate change is directly related to forestry, agroforestry, and agricultural crop production, as well as the preservation of biodiversity in small islands, which supports the local community’s economy by producing various types of plants. According to studies, the dynamics of climate change directly impact the availability of food and island communities’ readiness to maintain local economic resources. Therefore, agroforestry clusters can be determined based on the agroecological conditions directly related to the distribution of plant species, such as their ecological, conservation, landscape, and economic aspects. Furthermore, the area of land and the composition of the types of agricultural crops grown were taken into account based on the form of cluster analysis variables, in the villages on the small island of Maluku, which are only in the good (average sustainability index score is 89.2) and moderate (average sustainability index score 69.7) categories. Agroforestry also contributes to climate change mitigation and adaptation, therefore, to determine the magnitude of the contribution of agroforestry in absorbing carbon, it is necessary to measure biomass using non-destructive and destructive methods.

Abstract:
This chapter reviews opportunities for satellite remote sensing approaches to support the management of invasive species, starting by providing clear definitions of what invasive species are, in comparison, for example, with alien or exotic species. It provides an overview of sensors and approaches most relevant to the direct tracking of invasive plant species, and then expands this overview to methodologies and satellite-derived variables that can be used to predict the distribution range of invasive plant and animal species. The contribution demonstrates how satellite remote sensing information can ultimately aid optimisation of control mechanisms to prevent further spread and minimise their impacts. The various case studies introduced in this part of the book are used to discuss a number of key principles, such as the importance of the spatial and spectral configuration for reliably determining the distribution and patch sizes of invasive alien plant species; and the importance of taking into account the ecology as well as the morphological and structural features of the target species when trying to identify suitable remote sensing-based monitoring approaches.

Abstract:
In order to characterize the landslide susceptibility in the central zone of Guerrero State in Mexico, a spatial model has been designed and implemented, which automatically generates cartography. Conditioning factors as geomorphological, geological, and anthropic variables were considered, and as a detonating factor, the effect of the accumulated rain. The use of an inventory map of landslides that occurred in the past (IL) was also necessary, which was produced by an unsupervised detection method. Before the design of the model, an analysis of the contribution of each factor, related to the landslide inventory map, was performed by the Jackknife test. The designed model consists of a susceptibility index (SI) calculated pixel by pixel by the accumulation of the individual contribution of each factor, and the final index allows the susceptibility cartography to slide in the study area. The evaluation of the obtained map was performed by applying an analysis of the frequency ratio (FR) graphic, and an analysis of the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was developed. Studies like this can help different safeguarding institutions, locating the areas where there is a greater vulnerability according to the considered factors, and integrating disaster attention management or prevention plans.

Abstract:
The recent developments in computational intelligence has enhances the applicability of empirical modelling in different areas particularly in the area of machine learning. These new approaches are based on analysing the data about a system, in particular finding connections between the system state variables (input, internal and output variables) without having precise knowledge about the physical behaviour of the system. These data driven methods explain advances on conventional empirical modelling and include contributions from many overlapping fields like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Computational Intelligence (CI), Soft Computing (SC), Machine Learning (ML), Intelligent Data Analysis (IDA), and Data Mining (DM). The most popular computational intelligence techniques used in process modelling of steel industry includes neural networks, fuzzy rule-based systems, genetic algorithms as well as approaches to model integration. This chapter describes mainly the application of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) in steel industry. ANN has extensively used in improving and controlling different processes of steel industry like steel making, casting and rolling which lead to indirect energy savings through reduced product rejects, improved productivity and reduced down time. The efficiency of artificial neural network tool in handling steel plant processes has been discussed in detail. ANN based models are found to be very potential to handle very complex, dynamic and non-linear problems.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses and proposes an integrated model of actual online shopping use behaviour, with a moderating role of personal traits (openness to experience and agreeableness). Building on the TAM model, the proposed framework harnesses its factors from supported theories, namely social cognitive theory, source credibility theory, risk theory, and OCEAN model. A literature review approach is employed in which the author uses previous relevant studies to establish the relationship among the variables. Apart from direct relationships, the chapter conceptualises mediating role of Intention on the relationship between a set of predictors (internet self-efficacy, perceived channel credibility, financial and security risk) and actual online shopping usage behaviour. At the same time, the chapter explores the moderating role of openness to experience and agreeableness on the relationship between the TAM's belief constructs and intention. Finally, the chapter concludes with highlights on the framework's contributions, limitations, and plan for future empirical investigation.

Abstract:
A persistent challenge in evolutionary biology has been understanding how coevolution has produced complex webs of interacting species. This chapter investigates the suite of ecological, evolutionary, and coevolutionary mechanisms responsible for generating such network patterns. Although some predictors of a species position in a network of interactions have been studied—mainly species abundance and forbidden links—we are moving toward an integrative approach, where several variables are tested simultaneously within the framework of phylogenetically independent contrasts. This can help us quantify the relative contribution of different factors given that they are often correlated. Body size, phenological spread, regional abundance, and species abundance are significantly correlated with a species position in the network of interactions in the frugivore set. There is a phylogenetic signal in the position of a species in the network (e.g., its degree). Beyond this, the phylogenetic patterns of shared ancestry also play a key role in explaining the overall pattern of mutualistic associations between the two sets of species. This pattern of interaction is influenced mainly by the evolutionary history of the plants.

Abstract:
Despite receiving international technical assistance over many years, achieving food and nutrition security has remained elusive for many developing countries. Low technological capability, inefficient production systems, increasing populations and lately climate variability, affect food production, leading to stagnation or modest gains in food and nutrition security in many nations. For many African countries, food and nutrition security continues to improve, despite the slow pace. In the East African Community, political stability, ambitious economic planning, the quest for higher agricultural productivity, improving educational achievement, sanitation and health, are contributing to improving food and nutrition security. To support the process, Rwanda, established Vision 2020, while Burundi and South Sudan have yet to develop plans for a coherent development blueprint. The blue prints of the Member States bore Vision 2050 for the East African Community and Vision 2063 for the African Union. This chapter examines the status of food and nutrition security in Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan. It gives country-specific recommendations for achieving it-including investment in agriculture and agribusiness, value addition of agricultural commodities, decelerating population growth, using adaptive research to solve farmer-problems, strengthening farmer-organizations and integrating variables that influence food and nutrition security achievement.

Abstract:
Among the greatest cooperative examples of biotic evolution that released a virtually unbounded world of complexity, particularly conspicuous among eukaryotic organisms, was the evolution of sex. In sex, each individual of a mating pair contributes part of its genetic makeup (genome) to offspring—always cells are the seminal agents of the genetic contribution from each self—that participate in an emergent new generation. Thus a self, upon engaging in sex, abandons a substantial portion of its integrity and weaves together a molecular-to-cellular-to-organismal fractal interface with a partner. Throughout the sexual world, self seeks a profound intimacy with non-self. The chapter first describes gene sharing by bacteria through conjugation, a prokaryotic version of sex. An allegory of dancing snakes metaphorically represents cellular reproduction by mitosis and the reduction divisions of chromosomes in meiosis, the basis of gene sharing in sex among eukaryotes. Genetic recombination via meiosis enormously accelerates the diverse expressions of myriad life forms. Among angiosperm plants, sex is manifest in immensely variable flowers and, with some exceptions, their colors and forms evolved in response to a profound cooperative imperative with animal partners that spread their pollen. Darwin’s major insight on sexual selection among animals has explained male-female dimorphisms from subtle to spectacular.

Abstract:
Abstract Shale gas has recently become the most promising source of unconventional hydrocarbon energy. Shale gas well deliverability and economics depend on extremely low permeability that is not only dependent on the rock bedding trend but is also controlled by in-situ stresses. Thus, prediction of well’s deliverability requires understanding permeability of a dipping shale with natural bedding under conditions of unequal stresses in-situ. The purpose of this study was to determine relative contributions of normal and tangential stresses with respect to the rock bedding plane on permeability

Abstract Fossil fuel energy dominate the world energy mix and plays a fundamental role in our economy and lifestyle. Drilling of wellbore is the only proven method to extract the hydrocarbon reserves, an operation which is both highly hazardous and capital intensive. To optimize the drilling operations, developing a high fidelity autonomous downhole drilling system that is self-optimizing using real-time drilling parameters and able to precisely predict the optimal rate of penetration is essential. Least-squares health parameter identification techniques such as the Kalman filter have been massively used to solve the problem of turbine engine diagnosis. Indeed, such methods give a good estimate provided that the discrepancies between the model prediction and the measurements are zero-mean, white random variables. In turbine engine diagnosis, however, this assumption does not always hold due to the presence of biases in the model. This is especially true for transient operation. As a result, the estimated parameters tend to diverge from their actual values which strongly deteriorates the

Multi-cycle Large-eddy simulations (LES) of motored flow in an optical engine housed at the University of Michigan have been performed. The simulated flow field is compared against particle image velocimetry (PIV) data in several cutting planes. Circular statistical methods have been sued to isolate the contributions to overall turbulent fluctuations from changes in flow direction or magnitude. High levels of turbulence, as indicated by high velocity root-mean square (RMS) values, exist in relatively large regions of the combustion chamber. Condition monitoring and diagnostics of a combined cycle gas turbine power plant has become an important tool to improve its availability, reliability, and performance. However, there are two major challenges in the diagnostics of performance degradation and anomaly in a single shaft combined cycle power plant. First, since the gas turbine and steam turbine in such a plant share a common generator, each turbine’s contribution to the total plant power output is not directly measured, but must be accurately estimated to identify the possible causes of plant level degradation. Second, multivariat
