Abstract:
Although often assumed to be polar opposites, documentary and fiction are in fact theoretically and practically intermeshed, just as history and fiction, also conventually seen as opposites, are symbiotically connected. Historian Hayden White argued in Metahistory that the myth/history distinction was arbitrary and of recent invention. In words that apply to film as well as to writing, White pointed out that it matters little whether the world that is conveyed to the reader/spectator is conceived to be real or imagined; the manner of making discursive sense of it through tropes and emplotment

Since its establishment in 1963, the Correlates of War (COW) project has sought to build cumulative knowledge about international conflict through the application of the scientific method to the study of militarized interstate behavior. Early analyses from the COW project found substantial variation in the causal model of war across the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, but COW scholars later sought to develop a general model of war that avoided post hoc historical periodization. AbstractWe consider some variations of Muntz's classical theorem on when Span{xλi} is dense in C[0,1]. We prove, for example, that if then the collection of spaces is dense in C[0,1] if and only if lim sup(log n)/λn = ∞. Another variation concerns the denseness of the union of spaces of the form The derivations of these results require an examination of the location of the zeros of the associated Chebyshev polynomials.

Abstract:
The objective of the dissertation is to examine Young-Jo Lee's (b. 1943) musical language as exhibited in his piano composition, Variations on the theme of Baugogae. Subjects of discussion include Lee's use of direct and indirect musical borrowings from past European composers and traditional Korean folk idioms. Also included are a biographical sketch of the composer and historical overview of modern Korean composers. This dissertation investigates Lee's effort to synthesize traditional Korean music and Western music in one art form and ultimately, to create his own musical language.

As a student aspiring to be a cellist, it is essential to conduct an in-depth research on works for cello. There are many famous composers such as J.S.Bach, J.Haydn, L.Beethoven, J.Brahms, A.Dvořák, C. Saint-Saëns, R. Schumann, S.Prokofiev, S.Rachmaninoff, D.Shostakovich and P.I. Tchaikovsky who wrote wonderful pieces for cello. In my opinion however students and musicians are putting more emphasis on improving their playing techniques and philosophy, but not on the main theme, structure, and theoretical aspect of the work. Therefore, I chose to study main theme and structure of the Variations

This thesis is concerned with caching algorithms. We investigate three variations of the caching problem: web caching in the Torng framework, relative competitiveness and caching with request reordering. <br /><br /> In the first variation we define different cost models involving page sizes and page costs. We also present the Torng cost framework introduced by Torng in [29]. Next we analyze the competitive ratio of online deterministic marking algorithms in the BIT cost model combined with the Torng framework. In this thesis we consider cutsets in graphs which can be expressed as unionsof sets each of which is spanned by a tree of diameter at most d-1 for someinteger d ≥ 1; we call these sets galaxy cutsets. These galaxycutsets generalise both star-cutsets and vertex-cuts, and serve as simple models for virus-like attacks on or cascading failures in networks, the crucial property being that neighbours of affected vertices may alsofail and cease to function. We approach our subject from four different pointsof view. We begin by exploring the connection between galaxiesand a suitable type of flow, prov
