Full textThe present work aims to describe the evolution of Boccaccio’s “mistakes” from 16th century on through the use of different approaches (namely historical, ecdotic, linguistic, and stylistic). The dissertation starts with a chapter divided in three sections: the first two sections deal with the perception of Boccaccio’s model in the linguistic controversy characterizing the 16th century. The third section analyses how the syntax of the Decameron came to be considered incorrect by scholars of the time.I will concentrate on the commentaries by Ruscelli, Borghini, Salviati and Beni. The second chapter is about the manuscript tradition of the Decameron and on the most recent ecdotic theories formulated by modern philologists on the issue. In the third chapter I focus on such linguistic phenomena as the repetition of “che”, para-hypotaxis, “che” followed by the infinitive, and the coordination between dependent clauses with both finite and nonfinite verbs. In this part of my dissertation, I make use of a comparative method, bringing together Old Italian and Old French. In the last chapter I intend to reflect on the presence (and absence) of these linguistic phenomena in the Decameron, in order to understand Boccaccio’s writing choices, and taking into account other elements such as elocution and the different diegetic levels acting in the novellas

Full textThe aim of this thesis is on a delay system modeled by nonlinear maps of one, two and higher dimension. We study particularly some square separate maps defined from a sine square function. The goal of this study is to put in evidence some chaotic properties of the system which can be used in telecommunication. Generally speaking, information can be modified or hidden by a chaotic signal (masking, modulation…). The first chapter is devoted to the recall of some basic notions about maps, then to the definition of specific notions (bifurcation, critical manifolds, chaotic attractor…). The second chapter deals with the study of the delay system modeled by a map. The studied map is based on a sine square function, it is actually a simplified model of an optoelectronic system used in secure telecommunications. In this chapter, the different properties of the one-dimensional sine square map are particularly discussed. Chapters three and four are devoted to the study of the sine square system in the two-dimensional case and higher. In Chapter 5, we propose a model of chaotic generator. A complete analysis of the system is given by using an analogical part, a RC (or RLC) low-pass filter. An asymptotic model of the system is then proposed, which allows to find the system under the form of the delay system "Sinus square"

Full textAlthough he inspired famous contemporaries like François Rabelais or Clément Marot, and spent time with leading humanists, although he wrote a new Latin tragedy form many times reprinted and a chronicle about the reign of Louis XII familiar to historians, very little is known about the Neo-Latin poet Nicolas Barthélemy de Loches. Collecting, correcting and completing existing data about the man and his writings is necessary, as well as the reconstruction of the social, literary and historical environment in which he lived and wrote, in order to reevaluate the poetic diversity and richness of his work. Such data are enough to show that Barthélemy’s works were not written by a cloistered monk, but rather by a true humanist involved in the pedagogical, monastic and evangelical reforms of his time. The edition of one of the most representative poetic collections written by Barthélemy (a varied collection printed in 1520 in Paris) supports and confirms this interpretation

Full textpartielle faisant intervenir le (p,q)-Laplacien ou des opérateurs anisotropiques dans les cas sous-critique et critique.
Dans le 1er chapitre on s' intéresse au système suivant (S):
\begin{eqnarray}
\left\{\begin{array}{lll}-\Delta_p u&=&\lambda f(x,u,v)\quad\mbox{dans}\quad\Omega,\\
-\Delta_q v&=&\mu g(x,u,v)\quad\mbox{dans}\quad\Omega,
\end{array}
\right.
\end{eqnarray}

Full textThe maturity of information and communication technologies and the advent of Big Data have led to substantial developments in intelligent transportation systems (ITS) : from data collection to innovative processing solutions. Knowledge of current traffic states is available over most of the network range without the use of intrusive infrastructure-side collection devices, instead relying on wireless transmission of multi-source data. The increasing use of huge databases had a strong influence on traffic management, including forecasting methods. These approaches followed the recent trend towards innovative works on statistical learning. However, the prediction problem remains mainly focused on the local scale. The prediction for each road link relies on a dedicated, optimized and adapted prediction model. Our work introduces a traffic-forecasting framework able to tackle network scale problems. The study conducted in this thesis aims to present and evaluate this new “global” approach, in comparison to most-used existing works, and then to analyze its sensitivity to several factors. The traffic-forecasting framework, based on multi-variate learning methods, is detailed after a review of the literature on traffic flow theory. A multi-dimensional version of the k nearest-neighbors, a simple and sparse model, is evaluated through several use cases. The originality of the work stands on the processing approach, applied to data collected through new measurement process (e.g. Bluetooth, floating car data, connected vehicles). Then, the performance of our primary approach is compared to other learning-based methods. We propose an adaptation of kernel-based methods for the global prediction framework. The obtained results show that global approaches perform as well as usual approaches. The spatial and temporal specificities of the methods are highlighted according to the prediction accuracy. To improve the forecasting accuracy and reduce the computation time, we propose an identification and selection method targeting critical links. The results demonstrate that the use of a restricted subset of links is sufficient to ensure acceptable performances during validation tests. Finally, the prediction framework resilience is evaluated with respect to non-recurrent events as incidents or adverse weather conditions affecting the nominal network operations. The results highlight the impact of these non-recurrent conditions on real-time forecasting of short-term network dynamics. This enables the design of a further operational and resilient prediction framework. This perspective of forecasting matches the current applications relying on embedded systems and addressing the traffic network supervisor’s expectations

Full textThis doctoral degree dissertation has been written for a joint PhD, established between the Université de Limoges and the Université de Montréal. We examine four contemporary Quebecois novels: Myriam Beaudoin’s Hadassa, Éric Dupont’s La Logeuse, Abla Farhoud’s Le Fou d’Omar and Mauricio Segura’s Côte-des-Nègres. The novels were published in Montreal between 1998 and 2006. The most important objective is the study of the link between the heterolingualism of the Quebecois novel during the years 1995-2010 and the linguistic practice of the protagonists. We place literary heroes at the heart of our research. We make an interpretation by induction, as we decrypt the worldview of this literary heroes from the linguistic practice. This will allow us to determine the factors that could motivate the change of register and variety of language in specific situations. We use literary, linguistic and sociolinguistic methods. The analysis of the diegesis is based on Gérard Genette’s narratology theory. We use Philippe Hamon’s five differentiation processes and Boris Tomashevsky’s two individualization processes to establish the hierarchy of the literary characters. The results of the analysis of the diegesis are reproduced on a diagram. This type of diagram is our creation. Rainier Grutman define the heterolingualism like “the use of foreign languages or social, regional and historical varieties in literary texts” (translated by Nicole Nolette). We refer to the works of Rainier Grutman (1997) and Chantal Richard (2004) to analyse the form and function of hetorolingualism in our corpus. A sociolinguistic approach is based on Shana Poplack’s works and her variationist model of code switching and of borrowing (1988)

Full textIn this thesis, we study the role of visual attention when an expert reader acquires new orthographic lexical knowledge. Our contribution is twofold. On the one hand, we develop an original computational, probabilistic model of orthographic learning. Our model, named BRAID-Learn, is an extension of BRAID, a hierarchical probabilistic model of visual word recognition and lexical decision. On the other hand, we gather original experimental data on the evolution of eye movements during incidental learning of new orthographic forms and demonstrate the ability of the model to account for these observations. Our contribution is described in three articles.In the first article, we simulate the length effect as experimentally observed for words in lexical decision in the French Lexicon Project. Through 5 simulations, we show that visual attention modulates the length effect and that several attentional fixations during the processing of long words (7 letters or more) reduces the length effect, instead of accentuating it. This study allows us to calibrate the parameters of the lexical decision sub-model of our learning model.The second article focuses on the experimental study of oculomotor behavior of expert adult readers during the incidental learning of new words. We show that the number of fixations and processing duration vary according to the number of exposures to a novel word, testifying to the progressive strengthening of its orthographic representation in memory. Exploratory data suggest that orthographic learning and oculomotor behaviors are also modulated by the visual-attentional abilities of the participants.In the third and final article, we present the learning model BRAID-Learn and test its ability to account for previously described oculomotor data in orthographic learning conditions. The model is based on two original hypotheses. The first is that the system controls the visual-attentional parameters in order to optimize the accumulation of perceptual information on letters of the stimulus and, therefore, to efficiently build a new orthographic trace during learning. The second hypothesis is that lexical familiarity, that is, the probability that the stimulus presented is a known word, modulates the top-down influence of lexical representations on letter perception. We show that the model successfully reproduces the observations, namely the decrease of the number of fixations as well as processing duration for novel words across exposures.BRAID-Learn is the first orthographic learning model to establish an explicit link between orthographic learning and eye movements observed during the incidental orthographic learning. Another contribution of this thesis is to show and clarify the role of visual attention in orthographic learning, suggesting that this dimension could be strongly involved in the transition from serial reading, that characterizes learning readers, to global reading, that characterizes expert readers

In this thesis, we study aspects of Morse theory and the chain complexes that derive from it : the Morse complex, the Milnor complex and the Barraud-Cornea complex. Using different techniques from differential topology and Morse theory, which will be presented in the first chapters, we carefully build these complexes before proving their equivalence. This thesis synthesises and compares three points of view in Morse theory in a document accessible to beginning graduate students.
