Abstract:
Nowadays, CAD and FE software are getting integrated to each other. However, these new integrated pieces of software cannot be customized enough to analyze different optimization methods or model behavior. In this paper, a MATLAB environment is developed that connects to C# and VB programs, which use Solid Edge and Femap API functions, in order to automate the geometry modification and the FE model building and solving functions. A simple static structural size optimization problem is solved with the fmincon solver of MATLAB.

Abstract:
The rise of the Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) and the Computer Integrated Manufacturing System (CIMS) put forward a more urgent need for the practical fixture design software. 3D Visual Basic-based standard parts library is proposed in this paper. By calling the Application Program Interface (API) functions of Solidworks as the secondary development, the 3D standard parts library is established. And then the application program is made as plug-in to hanging onto the menu of Solidworks operating environment. When the assembly design starts, users can select the standard parts they need by clicking Solidworks menu. And then the application program can automatically query all the data required for drawing pictures. Finally the 3D entities of standard parts are generated so that they can be adopted for the assembly environment.

SolidWorks is a popular 3D design software. The characteristics and developing methods of SolidWorks which 3D design software are introduced, and studies the process of parametric design on SolidWorks software by using VB programming language, as well as the technologies of elaborating the program with API functions. And then combine with the crampoon elaborating the principle of process-driven method. When designing the large crampoon, we use the parametric design method to auto-form the 3D target crampoon model by constructing a interface software protype with which the crampoon demension parameters can be converted into some related program variables. That method not only improves the crampoon design efficiency and accuracy, but also provides some useful referenced experience to parametrical system design of other parts. Parametrization design has a wide application prospect in the field of mechanical parts designing.

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science 227, no. 4 (2012): 779–93. http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/0954406212453382.

Abstract:
As the current research of face gear drive cannot realize fluctuating gear ratio, a design method of orthogonal fluctuating gear ratio face gear drive is proposed. The mathematical model of orthogonal fluctuating gear ratio face gear drive is found based on the space engagement theory. The equation of the pitch curve, addendum curve and dedendum curve of face gear are derived. The design method of tooth surface of the face gear is available based on the envelope method. The conversion relationship of enveloping coordinate systems is obtained during the enveloping process of orthogonal fluctuating gear ratio face gear drive after the establishment of enveloping coordinate systems. Then combining with equation of generating surface, the tooth surface equation of the face gear is obtained. The three-dimensional model of orthogonal fluctuating gear ratio face gear is acquired on the basis of a modeling program, which is developed under the environment of VB and Solidworks (API). Furthermore, localization of the bearing contact is achieved by the manufacturing method and it is justified by the finite element method analysis result. Finally, the kinematics of the orthogonal fluctuating gear ratio face gear drive is analyzed, and the change laws of transmission ratio, angular displacement and angular acceleration of the face gear are acquired.

"Laboratory characterization of crude oil and sandstone reservoir for chemical enhanced oil recovery." Abstract:
Purpose Because of the increasing global oil demand, efforts have been made to further extract oil using chemical enhanced oil recovery (CEOR) methods. However, unlike water flooding, understanding the physicochemical properties of crude oil and its sandstone reservoir makeup is the first step before embarking to CEOR projects. These properties play major roles in the area of EOR technologies and are important for the development of reliable chemical flooding agents; also, they are key parameters used to evaluate the economic and technical feasibilities of production and refining processes in the oil industries. Consequently, this paper aims to investigate various important physicochemical properties of crude oil (specific gravity; American Petroleum Institute [API]; viscosity; pour point; basic sediment and water; wax; and saturate, aromatic, resins and asphaltenes components) and sandstone reservoir makeup (porosity, permeability, bulk volume and density, grain volume and density, morphology and mineral composition and distributions) obtained from Malaysian oil field (MOF) for oil recovery prediction and design of promising chemical flooding agents. Design/methodology/approach Three reservoir sandstones from different depths (CORE 1; 5601, CORE 2; 6173 and CORE 3; 6182 ft) as well as its crude oil were obtained from the MOF, and various characterization instruments, such as high temperature gas chromatography and column chromatography for crude’s fractions identification; GC-simulated distillation for boiling point distribution; POROPERM for porosity and permeability; CT-Scan and scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray for morphology and mineral distribution; wax instrument (wax content); pour point analyser (pour point); and visco-rheometre (viscosity), were used for the characterizations. Findings Experimental data gathered from this study show that the field contains low viscous (0.0018-0.014 Pa.s) sweet and light-typed crude because of low sulfur content (0.03 per cent), API gravity (43.1o), high proportion of volatile components (51.78 per cent) and insignificant traces of heavy components (0.02 per cent). Similarly, the rock permeability trend with depth was found in the order of CORE 1 < CORE 2 < CORE 3, and other parameters such as pore volume (Vp), bulk volume (Vb) and grain volume (Vg) also decrease in general. For grain density, the variation is small and insignificant, but for bulk density, CORE 2 records lower than CORE 3 by more than 1 per cent. In the mineral composition analysis, the CORE 2 contains the highest identified mineral content, with the exception of quarts where it was higher in the CORE 3. Thus, a good flow crude characteristic, permeability trend and the net mineral concentrations identified in this reservoir would not affect the economic viability of the CEOR method and predicts the validation of the MOF as a potential field that could respond to CEOR method successfully. Originality/value This paper is the first of its kind to combine the two important oil field properties to scientifically predict the evaluation of an oil field (MOF) as a step forward toward development of novel chemical flooding agents for application in EOR. Hence, information obtained from this paper would help in the development of reliable chemical flooding agents and designing of EOR methods.

Abstract:
To investigate the effect of TiN coating on the fatigue strength of high-strength steel, four-point bending fatigue tests were carried out for martensitic stainless steel with TiN film coated using arc ion plating (AIP) method. A 2-μm-thick TiN film was deposited onto the substrate surface under bias voltage of four kinds: VB = 0, -60, -160 and -260 V. For VB = 0, -160 V and -260 V, the fatigue limit increased. The highest fatigue limit of σ max = 900 MPa was obtained for VB = -160 V. But some samples for VB = -260 V showed the decrease of fatigue limit due to film delamination during the fatigue test. For VB = -60 V, the fatigue limit was unchanged by coating. As a result of a coating property analysis, the following conclusions were obtained. Fatigue crack propagation was almost independent of the bias voltage. Fatigue crack initiated from the subsurface in the substrate and the crack initiation behavior depended on the film property of the adhesion, residual stress, elastic modulus, and the film's hardness depended on the bias voltage especially for low fatigue stress level.

Abstract:
The Ag/AgI/Bi2WO6photocatalysts were successfully synthesized by deposition-precipitation and photoreduction methods. The catalyst showed high and stable photocatalytic activity for the degradation of the RhB under visible light irradiation (λ>400 nm). On the basis of a new plasmonic photocatalytic mechanism, the photogenerated electron-hole pairs are formed in Ag nanoparticles (NPs) due to surface plasmon resonance under visible-light irradiation. Then, the photoexcited electrons at the Ag NPs are injected into AgI. On the other hand, the band position shows that AgI and Bi2WO6have the matching band potentials in the AgI/Bi2WO6heterostructure composites. So the photoexcited electrons is ultimately transfer to the Bi2WO6conduction band (CB), photo-induced holes (hVB+) is transfer to the AgI valence band (VB) and the simultaneous transfer to compensative electrons from I-to the Ag NPS. This the result indicates that the high photosensitivity of noble metal Ag NPs due to surface plasmon resonance, which is not only improve the photocatalytic performance, but also offer a new idea for preparation of new photocatalysts .
