Abstract:
This paper deals with the mechanical characteristics of cashew nut and cutting the shell in a mechanized way to reduce the time. Presently shearing of shell of cashew nut is done manually, which is labour intensive and hazardous. During shearing of cashew nut shell a liquid is coming out which is corrosive which is hazardous and in turn consumes the lot of time because of its oily property. This automatic power operated cashew nut Sheller may be operated by unskilled worker. The release of kernel from the shell with no damage and breakage is possible with this. An automatic power operated cashew nut Sheller is based on the principle of shear with respect to cutters is mounted on sliding guide ways. Now-a-days few automatic cashew nut shelling machines are present but there are some problems such as it cannot be adjusted along the guide as per the size of cashew nut therefore efficiency of machine may get reduced and cost may increase. This research overcomes the problem by manufacturing automatic cashew nut shelling machine using spring adjustment guide with respect to size of cashew nut and in turn improves the efficiency. Firstly fracture point of cashew nut shell and depth required for cutting the shell is determined, after that as per fracture point the guide Vee is designed near cutting section. An automatic cashew nut Sheller is having two cutters to shear the cashew nut shelling with automatic feeding of cashew nut one after another through Vee guide. Cutter is mounted on sliding guide ways which move between the two Vee guides which carries two blades which creates impact load on cashew nut. These two blades are used to split the kernels from shell by operating the cutter. After de-shelling, nut falls freely in tray due to the gravity. The finding suggests the capacity of the machine as 25kg/hr. This paper summarizes a semi automatic method over manual method. Abstract:
Student worksheets used as practical guide in laboratory activities will highly determine the achievement of learning objectives required by the curriculum. However, the structure of student worksheet as a laboratory activity design still should be improved. This study aims to explain the results of the analysis of bone structure student worksheets used in learning with National Curriculum 2006 and 2013. The research method used was qualitative descriptive method and the sample were 6 student worksheets. The student worksheets were used as practical guide in laboratory activities in national senior high school in Garut Regency and selected using a total sampling technique. The research instruments used were completeness of the student worksheets components rubric and scoring rubric of the components of Vee Diagram adapted from Novak & Gowin (1984). The results showed that the bone structure student worksheets used in national senior high school in Garut Regency still have incomplete Vee Diagram components and the components appear still do not have a maximum score. Abstrak. Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik (LKPD) yang digunakan sebagai panduan kegiatan laboratorium akan menentukan ketercapaian tujuan kegiatan laboratorium dan tujuan pembelajaran yang dituntut oleh kurikulum. Namun, struktur LKPD yang memuat desain kegiatan laboratorium sekolah nyatanya masih jauh dari yang diharapkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan tentang hasil analisis terhadap LKPD Struktur Tulang yang digunakan pada saat pembelajaran dengan Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan (KTSP) 2006 dan Kurikulum 2013. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan sampel penelitian berjumlah 6 LKPD. Sampel LKPD tersebut digunakan sebagai petunjuk kegiatan laboratorium di SMA Negeri di Kabupaten Garut dan dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik total sampling. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan untuk menilai kualitas struktur LKPD adalah rubrik kelengkapan komponen LKPD dan rubrik penskoran komponen LKPD berdasarkan Diagram Vee yang diadaptasi dari Novak & Gowin (1984). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa LKPD Struktur Tulang yang digunakan di SMA Negeri di Kabupaten Garut belum memiliki komponen Diagram Vee lengkap dan komponen-komponen yang ada belum mencapai skor maksimum.

Abstract:
Students Worksheet is a very important guide for doing work in the laboratory which is often used by teachers and students. This study aims to analyze the existence of the constituent components and to provide an overview of the Students Worksheet Catalase Enzyme Test contained in the High School Biology textbooks. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method with a samples of 8 Students Worksheet chosen by using purposive sampling technique. The research instrument used was a LKS analysis instrument, table of work step and rubric test results based on the Vee diagram. The results showed that the Students Worksheet in terms of conceptual analysis as a whole was not in accordance with the applicable curriculum. For practical analysis as a whole it has shown quite good results even though there are still some Students Worksheet whose components are incomplete. Then the analysis of knowledge construction shows that the knowledge construction process has not been developed properly. In addition, from the results of the work step test there are still problems as in the choice of sentence instructions the steps of the work are less precise and less appropriate so that it can confuse students in their execution. In terms of completeness and component scores Students Worksheet based on the Vee Diagram, only a small portion of the catalase enzyme student activity sheet did not have the complete Vee Diagram component. Nevertheless, these components have different qualities which are indicated by the achievement scores of each component of Diagram Vee. Based on these problems, the Catalyst Enzyme Test LKS requires an analysis and improvement in terms of conceptual, procedural, and knowledge construction.
 Abstrak. Lembar Kerja Siswa merupakan suatu pedoman yang sangat penting untuk melakukan kerja di laboratorium yang sering digunakan oleh guru dan siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis keberadaan komponen penyusun dan memberikan gambaran tentang Lembar Kerja Siswa Uji Enzim Katalase yang terdapat pada buku paket Biologi SMA. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan sampel penelitian berjumlah 8 LKS yang dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah berupa instrument analisis LKS, tabel hasil uji langkah kerja dan rubrik berdasarkan diagram Vee. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Lembar Kerja Siswa tersebut dari segi analisis konseptual secara keseluruhan kurang sesuai dengan kurikulum yang berlaku. Untuk analisis praktikal secara keseluruhan sudah menunjukkan hasil yang lumayan baik walaupun masih terdapat beberapa LKS yang komponennya belum lengkap. Kemudian analisis konstruksi pengetahuan menunjukkan bahwa proses konstruksi pengetahuan belum terbangun dengan baik. Selain itu, dari hasil uji langkah kerja masih terdapat permasalahan seperti dalam pemilihan kalimat instruksi langkah kerja yang kurang tepat dan kurang sesuai sehingga dapat membingungkan siswa dalam eksekusinya. Dari segi kelengkapan dan skor komponen LKS berdasarkan Diagram Vee, hanya sebagian kecil LKS enzim katalase yang tidak memiliki komponen Diagram Vee lengkap. Meskipun demikian, komponen-komponen tersebut memiliki perbedaan kualitas yang ditunjukkan oleh capaian skor dari masing-masing komponen Diagram Vee. Berdasarkan permasalahn tersebut, maka LKS Uji Enzim Katalase memerlukan sebuah analisis dan perbaikan dari segi konseptual, prosedural, maupun konstruksi pengetahuan.

AbstractThe goal of the present work was to create a comprehensive guide to obtain 3-ply veneer laminates with a stable form. More precisely, a single curvature vee-bending test has been conducted on commercially available radiata pine (Pinus radiataD. Don) veneer plywood, in which the veneer was pre-softened in water. Within the framework of a parametric study, the spring-back and spring-forward of the 3-ply laminates was quantitatively evaluated. The variability and final contributions of each parameter was observed by a statistical data evaluation. The forming temperature and pre-forming moisture content were found to have the highest influences, while the experimental results could be satisfactorily simulated by calculations according to Taguchi.

Lab activities can guide students in constructing knowledge through a process of operational steps. However, most laboratory activities in the field are not appropriate with the content taught so that students cannot construct factual knowledge into conceptual knowledge, especially in studying the diversity of creatures. The aim of this study is to provide an overview of the quality of existing practicum activities for the diversity of living things to be tested and reconstructed into a design of laboratory activities to support a better learning process. The research method used is qualitative descriptive method. The flow of research carried out is based on ANCOR (Analysis, Trial, and Reconstruction). The type of sampling technique used is nonprobability sampling with purposive sampling technique. The research sample, practicum activities for the diversity of living things integrated in the class X independent curriculum science book. The results of analysis and trials based on the existence of knowledge construction components found that alternative design of laboratory activities is needed based on knowledge construction indicators in the Diagram Vee. Key words: Analysis, Reconstruction, Design of Laboratory Activities, Classification of Living Things. Abstrak. Kegiatan laboratorium dapat membimbing siswa dalam mengonstruksi pengetahuan melalui serangkaian langkah-langkah operasional. Namun, mayoritas kegiatan laboratorium di lapangan tidak sesuai dengan materi yang diajarkan sehingga siswa tidak dapat mengonstruksi pengetahuan faktual menjadi pengetahuan konseptual terutama dalam mempelajari keanekaragaman makhluk. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk memberikan gambaran mengenai kualitas kegiatan praktikum keanekaragaman makhluk hidup yang sudah ada untuk kemudian diuji coba dan direkonstruksi kembali menjadi desain kegiatan laboratorium untuk menunjang proses pembelajaran yang lebih baik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pengumpulan data melalui analisis lembar kegiatan praktikum untuk menentukan lembar kegiatan praktikum biologi kelas X yang kurang sesuai dan analisis komponen desain kegiatan praktikum berdasarkan Diagram Vee. Berdasarkan alur tahapan dalam perancangan desain kegiatan laboratorium berbasis ANCOR (Analisis, Uji Coba, dan Rekonstruksi), diperlukan alternatif desain kegiatan laboratorium berdasarkan indikator konstruksi pengetahuan dalam Diagram Vee. Student worksheets are often used as practical guide to direct students in carrying out laboratory activities. Therefore, the quality of student worksheet will highly determine the quality of experience and understanding of students obtained from a laboratory activity. This study aims to explain the results of the analysis, testing, and reconstruction of the tastebuds student worksheets created to fulfill the basic competencies in National Curriculum 2006 and 2013. The research method used was qualitative descriptive method and the sample were 12 student worksheets selected using a total sampling technique. The research instruments used were conceptual analysis rubric, procedural analysis rubric, and knowledge construction rubric based on the Vee Diagram adapted from Novak & Gowin (1984). The results showed that conceptually the student worksheets analyzed did not contain knowledge and skills according to curriculum. Procedurally, most of the laboratory activities in student worksheets were still not relevant with the objectives and basic competencies in curriculum. In terms of knowledge construction, almost all of the student worksheets have a complete Vee Diagram components, although with differences in quality of each component. Based on the problems found, the tastebuds student worksheets require a reconstruction for the conceptual, procedural, and knowledge construction aspects. 
 Abstrak. Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik (LKPD) seringkali digunakan sebagai panduan untuk mengarahkan peserta didik dalam melaksanakan kegiatan praktikum. Oleh karenanya, kualitas LKPD akan sangat menentukan kualitas pengalaman dan pemahaman peserta didik yang diperoleh dari suatu kegiatan praktikum. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan hasil analisis, uji coba, dan rekonstruksi terhadap LKPD Indra Pengecap yang disusun untuk memenuhi tuntutan kompetensi dasar di Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan (KTSP) 2006 dan Kurikulum 2013. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan sampel penelitian berjumlah 12 LKPD yang dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik total sampling. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah rubrik analisis konseptual, rubrik analisis prosedural, dan rubrik analisis konstruksi pengetahuan yang terdiri dari rubrik kelengkapan komponen LKPD dan rubrik penskoran komponen LKPD berdasarkan Diagram Vee yang diadaptasi dari Novak & Gowin (1984). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara konseptual LKPD Indera Pengecap yang dianalisis belum memuat konten dan melatih kompetensi yang sesuai dengan tuntutan kurikulum. Secara prosedural, sebagian besar kegiatan praktikum di LKPD Indera Pengecap masih belum relevan dengan tujuan praktikum dan kompetensi dasar di kurikulum. Dari segi konstruksi pengetahuan, hampir seluruh LKPD Indra Pengecap memiliki komponen Diagram Vee lengkap, meskipun dengan kualitas komponen yang berbeda-beda. Berdasarkan permasalahan-permasalahan yang ditemukan, maka LKPD Indra Pengecap memerlukan rekonstruksi dari sisi konseptual, prosedural, maupun konstruksi pengetahuan.

Abstract:
Natural Science learning at the elementary, high school and university levels is certainly closely related to the practicum learning method. Practical activities, experiments and observations of objects and direct phenomena can motivate students and can bridge students to gain direct experience in studying science phenomena that cannot be obtained from ordinary textbooks. In preparing laboratory activities, it is necessary to consider whether the practicum worksheet can guide and direct students to form knowledge or not. Most practicum worksheets in circulation today have not yet reached the expected criteria, one of which is a worksheet on plant respiration in one of the science packagebooks for junior high school / MTs grade 8. Based on this, it is necessary to conduct an analysis and reconstruction to improve the existing worksheets. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. There are three stages carried out in this study, namely: 1) analyzing the initial practicum worksheet; 2) conducting a limited trial on the initial practicum worksheet; and 3) reconstructing the practicum worksheet based on the trial results. Several weaknesses and obstacles were found during the trial which became the basis for improving the worksheets. Reconstruction of the worksheet was then carried out based on the suggestions for improvement obtained during the trial. After reconstruction, the practicum worksheet for respiration in plants experienced an increase in score, which was originally in the sufficient category (44%) to the very good category (83%).

Abstract:
Practicum is an important component in biology learning and it helps students to gain hands-on experience. Practicum activities can be provided with the help of student worksheets. Based on observations, the student worksheets used have inadequate quality. This study aims to analyze and reconstruct the student worksheets. The research method applied in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. With the following flow: Analysis, Try, and Reconstruction. The results of the analysis using the Laboratory Activity Analysis Form show that there are problems in the student worksheets Plant Tissue Structure from a structural aspect. Problems were also found in conceptual, practical specifications and knowledge construction specs through vee diagram analysis. Therefore, reconstruction was carried out on the student worksheets Structure and Function of Plant Tissues. The reconstructed worksheets were developed according to the demands of an independent curriculum that emphasizes students' literacy and numerical reasoning skills. The practical aspect of the worksheets aimed to guide students in discovering factual objects and phenomena through hands-on activities, thereby facilitating the construction of knowledge.

Abstract:
Due to the fourth industrial revolution, manufacturing companies are looking to implement digital twins in their factories to be more competitive. However, the implementation of digital twins in manufacturing systems is a complex task. Factories need a framework that can guide them in the development of digital twins. Hence, this article proposes a small-scale digital twin implementation framework for manufacturing systems. To build this framework, the authors gathered several concepts from the literature and designed a digital twin subsystem model using a model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approach and the systems engineering “Vee” model. The systems modelling defines the digital twin components, functionalities, and structure. The authors distribute most of these concepts throughout the framework configuration and some concepts next to this general configuration. This configuration presents three spaces: physical, virtual, and information. The physical space presents a physical layer and a perception layer. The information space has a single layer called middleware. Finally, the virtual space presents two layers: application and model. In addition to these layers, this framework includes other concepts such as digital thread, data, ontology, and enabling technologies. This framework could help researchers and practitioners to learn more about digital twins and apply it to different domains.

Abstract:
Student Worksheet (LKS) is a guide and support for practicum in learning science / science. In biology lessons, especially the material of Spermatophyta Submaterial Plantae, currently it is not optimal. This can be seen from the content of the worksheets that do not cover all the competencies that have been formulated in the curriculum. Therefore, this study aims to reconstruct the worksheets on the Spermatophyta submaterial Plantae. The research method used the ANCOR (Analysis-Try-Reconstruction) approach. At the analysis stage, the LKS analysis process is based on conceptual, practical, and knowledge construction aspects. Then at the trial stage carried out without changes in tools, materials and procedures. Furthermore, the LKS reconstruction refers to the vee diagram and applies a process skills approach. The results showed that there were problems with the Spermatophyta LKS in the field, including the contents of the worksheets that did not cover all the competencies expected by the curriculum, the work steps were less relevant and the discussion questions did not support the student's knowledge construction process. The results of the reconstruction worksheets were added by phenetic analysis activities to align with the basic competencies that had been formulated. These reconstruction worksheets can become alternative worksheets in accordance with curriculum standards and representatives for all time. Abstrak. Praktikum merupakan kegiatan yang penting dalam pembelajaran sains / IPA. Namun kenyataan di lapangan, masih ada praktikum yang tidak sesuai dengan tujuan pembelajaran atau kompetensi yang diharapkan. Lembar Kerja Siswa (LKS) sebagai petunjuk aktivitas sains juga dirasa kurang optimal. Penulisan artikel ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan rekonstruksi dan pengembangan LKS pada materi plantae submateri spermatophyta. Metode penelitian dengan pendekatan ANCOR (Analisis-Coba-Rekonstruksi). LKS yang dianalisis sebanyak 7 sampel, diantaranya 3 LKS pada KTSP, 3 LKS pada kurikulum 2013, dan 1 LKS yang dibuat sendiri oleh guru. Analisis LKS berdasarkan aspek konseptual, praktikal, dan konstruksi pengetahuan. Berdasarkan hasil analisis konseptual, 5 LKS sesuai dengan KD 3.8, namun 1 LKS dirasa masih belum lengkap untuk konten/kegiatannya. Selain itu, pada semua LKS tidak ada kegiatan untuk mengembangkan kompetensi KD 4.8. Berdasarkan hasil analisis praktikal, 2 LKS prosedurnya tidak relevan, dan 3 LKS relevan namun terdapat tahapan yang tidak detail dan tidak terstruktur. Berdasarkan hasil analisis konstruksi pengetahuan, hanya 1 LKS yang mendukung sedangkan pada LKS lainnya pertanyaan diskusi tidak mendukung konstruksi pengetahuan siswa. Hasil tersebut merupakan temuan untuk melakukan rekonstruksi dan pengembangan terhadap LKS Spermatophyta. LKS dikembangkan dengan menerapkan pendekatan keterampilan proses dan mengacu pada diagram vee.

Abstract:
Abstract Cancer is one of the main reason for loss of human life across the world. All the medical practitioners and researchers are dealing with the demanding situations to fight against cancer. Based on the report in 2019 from American Cancer Society, 96,480 deaths are anticipated due to skin cancers, 142,670 deaths are from lung cancers, 42,260 deaths are from breast cancers, 31,620 deaths are from prostate cancers, and 17,760 deaths are from mind cancers. Initial detection of most cancers has the pinnacle precedence for saving the lives. This paper proposed a lung cancer detection using Deep Learning based on VEE NET architecture. This was one of the famous models submitted to ILSVRC-2014. Visual checkup and manual practices are used on this venture for the various types of cancer diagnoses. This guide interpretation of scientific images that needs massive time intake and is notably susceptible to mistakes. Thus, in this project, we apply deep learning algorithms to identify lung cancer and its presence without the need for several consultations from different doctors. This leads to an earlier prediction of the presence of the disease and allows us to take prior actions immediately to avoid further consequences in an effective and cheap manner avoiding human error rate. Student Worksheet (LKPD) is a practical guide in science learning. The existence of LKPD makes practicum activities can be carried out properly and structured. However, in biology lessons, especially the LKPD of the human respiratory system, the practicum of measuring lung capacity in the field is still not appropriate. Therefore, this study aims to reconstruct the LKPD on the human respiratory system material about practicum measuring lung capacity. This research uses the ANCOR (Analysis, Trial, and Reconstruction) stages. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method. The sample in this study amounted to 8 samples of LKPD selected using purposive sampling technique. The instrument used consists of 3 components, including: conceptual analysis, analysis of knowledge construction based on the Vee Diagram adapted from Novak and Gowin (1984), and practical analysis. The results showed that there were still various problems in conceptual analysis, knowledge construction analysis, and practical analysis. In addition, the results of trials related to practicum measuring lung capacity there are still unclear work procedures, as well as practicum tools used to measure lung capacity have weaknesses and are less accurate in data acquisition. So that there is a need for a better LKPD reconstruction, constructing student knowledge, and in accordance with the basic competencies in the applicable curriculum. Meanwhile, to overcome the weakness of the practicum tool, the researchers made an alternative simple tool to measure lung capacity that can develop the HOTS ability of students.

Who is the good teacher? Teacher ideals in sexuality education. This paper explores the construction of teacher ideals in the context of sexuality education – a curricular area marked by numerous, and often conflicting, expectations on the teachers responsible for teaching it. Using a curriculum theory approach, a thematic analysis of Swedish teacher guides on sexuality education from 1956 to 2014 was conducted. The study examines how these manuals shape conceptions of both the knowledge domain and teacher ideals. The findings identify four main teacher ideals across the guides, revealing a mix of divergent and recurring ideas about teachers’ roles, encompassing both personal and professional qualities. Notably, the teacher ideals in the earlier guides (from 1956 and 1977) are presented implicitly, while the 1995 guide explicitly outlines the attributes of a good teacher. The study suggests that shifts in teacher ideals may be linked to broader changes in the content focus of the guides, though this relationship must be understood within the often-fragile amalgamation of competing ideals.

This study aims to examine the effect of guided inquiry learning model with vee map on scientific reasoning skills and to examine the effect of guided inquiry learning model with vee map on scientific attitude of high school students on temperature and heat material. This type of research uses true-experiment with pretest-posttest control group design. The sample determination used cluster random sampling method. The samples of this study were XI MIPA 1 class as the control class and XI MIPA 2 as the experimental class. The research instruments used were pre-test and post-test questions using Lawson Classroom Test Scientific Reasoning indicators and scientific attitude questionnaires. Data analysis techniques using SPSS 26. The results showed that there was a significant effect of guided inquiry learning model with vee map on scientific reasoning skills with a significance of 0.000 and there was a significant effect of guided inquiry learning model with vee map on the scientific attitude of students with a significance of 0.000. Therefore it can be concluded that inquiry learning model accompanied by vee map can encourage students to be active in concept discovery and improve students' scientific reasoning skills.

First-year computer science (CS1) university students traditionally have difficulties understanding how to program. This paper describes research introducing CS1 students to programming concepts using a Scratch programming language guided visual execution environment (VEE). The concepts addressed are those from an introductory programming course (sequences, variables, operators, conditionals, loops, and events and parallelism). The VEE guides novice students through programming concepts, explaining and guiding interactive exercises executed in Scratch by using metaphors and serious games. The objective of this study is, firstly, to investigate if a cohort of 124 CS1 students, from three distinct groups, studying at the same university, are able to improve their programming skills guided by the VEE. Secondly, is the improvement different for various programming concepts? All the CS1 students were taught the module by the same tutor in four 2-h sessions (8 h), and a qualitative research approach was adopted. The results show students significantly improved their programming knowledge, and this improvement is significant for all the programming concepts, although greater for certain concepts such as operators, conditionals, and loops than others. It also shows that students lacked initial knowledge of events and parallelism, though most had used Scratch during their high school years. The sequence concept was the most popular concept known to them. A collateral finding in this study is how the students’ previous knowledge and learning gaps affected grades they required to access and begin study at the university level.

Students in their first year of computer science (CS1) at universities typically struggle to grasp fundamental programming concepts. This paper discusses research carried out using a Java-based visual execution environment (VEE) to introduce fundamental programming concepts to CS1 students. The VEE guides beginner programmers through the fundamentals of programming, utilizing visual metaphors to explain and direct interactive tasks implemented in Java. The study’s goal was to determine if the use of the VEE in the instruction of a group of 63 CS1 students from four different groups enrolled in two academic institutions (based in Madrid, Spain and Galway, Ireland) results in an improvement in their grasp of fundamental programming concepts. The programming concepts covered included those typically found in an introductory programming course, e.g., input and output, conditionals, loops, functions, arrays, recursion, and files. A secondary goal of this research was to examine if the use of the VEE enhances students’ understanding of particular concepts more than others, i.e., whether there exists a topic-dependent benefit to the use of the VEE. The results of the study found that use of the VEE in the instruction of these students resulted in a significant improvement in their grasp of fundamental programming concepts compared with a control group who received instruction without the use of the VEE. The study also found a pronounced improvement in the students’ grasp of particular concepts (e.g., operators, conditionals, and loops), suggesting the presence of a topic-dependent benefit to the use of the VEE.

Vee-diagram is one of the learners&rsquo; centered strategies which makes learning meaningful and worthwhile. The main objective of this study was to investigate effects of vee-diagram strategy on achievement and retention in gravitation concept among Federal College of Education students, Kano State. Pretest and posttest quasi-experimental research design was adopted for the study. An intact class of 85 N.C.E. II Physics pre-service teachers during the 2019/2020 academic session were purposively selected for the study. Two research questions and corresponding hypotheses guided the study. Physics Achievement Test (PAT) was used for data collection. The reliability coefficient for the instruments was found to be 0.933 via test retest. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions, while Z-test<strong> </strong>was used to test both hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The results revealed that there was no significant difference in the academic achievement of male and female students when taught the concept of gravitation using the Vee-Diagram instructional strategy. Also, there was no significant difference in the retention levels of male and female students when taught the concept of gravitation using the Vee-Diagram Instructional Strategy. Based on the findings, it was concluded that the Vee-diagram is a gender friendly instructional strategy, it was therefore recommended that science teachers should employ the use of Vee-diagram as an instructional strategy. <strong>Keywords:</strong> Vee-Diagram Instructional Strategy, Academic Achievement, Retention, Gender Stereotypes, and Physics.

The aim of the research is to determine the implementation of lab activities based Vee diagram to bring out students metacognitive skill and increasing students' learning achievement to the excretory system. Quasi-experimental research with nonequivalent control group design was conducted to the classes. Lab activities based Vee diagram was implemented to the experimental class and lab activities based guided inquiry was implemented to the control class. The sample was determined by purposive sampling technique. Data of the research was obtained from student� worksheet that applying metacognitive strategies and the result of� pre test and post test. Metacognitive skills of experimental class is higher than the control class. Based on analysis, metacognitive skills of experimental class was 75.0 and metacognitive skill of control class was 67.8. Learning achievement of experimental class is higher than control class. The results of the test showed an increasing (N gain) of learning achievement experimental class was 0.53 and control class was 0.41. T test showed t count &gt; t table, which means that there are significant differences between pre-test and post test. Effective and reliable assessment approaches to computational thinking in secondary education are in demand. This paper uses a guided technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) framework, incorporating a visual execution environment (VEE) and Scratch project for secondary school students as a method to teach and assess computational thinking. The objective is to investigate if computational thinking and programming concepts can be improved upon following this method, and if the K-12 children are able to improve their computational thinking skills. The research study was conducted over 2 years in a school setting using the guided VEE and project developed following the dimensions of Computational Thinking process. The project participants came from two cohorts, an after-school programming camp and an in-school environment. Data was collected over two academic years and a quasi-experimental procedure with pre- and post-test was followed. The results demonstrate knowledge gain on computational and programming concepts and encourages us to convey how students translate (as opposed to transfer) their computational thinking experiences into reality. The results indicate the students achieved significant improvement in their computational thinking development.

The unit programs are managed by MG coordinators who currently include 10 locally funded agents, eight locally funded technicians, and 28 volunteers. The VCE Master Gardener Coordinator Manual, a 12-unit resource book, was developed cooperatively with teams of MGs, coordinators, and agents to enhance coordinators' skills for managing the local VCE MG program. The manual includes chapters on VCE MG components such as risk management; job descriptions; recruitment and screening; and volunteer review, recognition, and retention. This paper introduces a novel approach for topic modeling utilizing latent codebooks from Vector-Quantized Variational Auto-Encoder~(VQ-VAE), discretely encapsulating the rich information of the pre-trained embeddings such as the pre-trained language model. From the novel interpretation of the latent codebooks and embeddings as conceptual bag-of-words, we propose a new generative topic model called Topic-VQ-VAE~(TVQ-VAE) which inversely generates the original documents related to the respective latent codebook. The TVQ-VAE can visualize the topics with various generative distributions including the traditional BoW distribution and the autoregressive image generation. Our experimental results on document analysis and image generation demonstrate that TVQ-VAE effectively captures the topic context which reveals the underlying structures of the dataset and supports flexible forms of document generation. High-velocity rotational stimuli have the potential to improve the diagnostic capabilities of clinical rotation testing by revealing nonlinear vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) responses that are indicative of asymmetric vestibular function. However, eye movements evoked by high-velocity rotations often are inconsistent over time and therefore do not yield reliable diagnostic measures. This study investigated whether use of a novel "visual guide" could improve the consistency and quality of VORs obtained during testing with pulse-step-sine (PSS) stimuli providing periodic high-velocity, horizontal-plane rotations with peak velocities up to 290 deg/s. The visual guide (narrow phosphorescent line spanning 180° field of view) was mounted horizontally on the rotation chair at the subject's eye level. Eight healthy human subjects were tested either in complete darkness while performing an alerting task, or while viewing the visual guide in an otherwise dark room. We found that the visual guide improved the quality of VOR responses as shown by an increased proportion of slow-phase velocity data segments retained for analysis, by a decreased variance of the processed eye velocity data, and by a reduction of outlying VOR response measures. We also found that the visual guide did not induce visual suppression because VOR gain measures were not diminished.

AbstractBackgroundBreast hematoma is an often underrated and disregarded post-procedural complication in the literature. Current treatment modalities are comprised of either surgical or expectant therapy, while percutaneous procedures play a smaller role in their treatment. We aimed to examine the efficacy of vacuum-assisted evacuation (VAE) in the treatment of clinically significant large breast hematomas as an alternative to surgery.Patients and methodsWe retrospectively analysed patients that underwent breast interventions (surgical and percutaneous), who later developed clinically significant large hematomas and underwent a trial of VAE of hematoma in our hospital within the period of four years. Patient and procedure characteristics were acquired before and after VAE. Success of intervention was based on ≥ 50% clearance of hematoma volume and patients’ subjective resolution of symptoms. All patients were followed clinically and by ultrasound if needed at different intervals depending on the severity of presenting symptoms.ResultsEleven patients were included in the study. The mean largest diameter of hematomas was 7.9 cm and mean surface area was 32.4 cm2. The mean duration of the procedure was 40.5 min. In all patients VAE of hematoma was implemented successfully with no complications. Control visits showed no major residual hematoma or seroma formation.ConclusionsOur results show that VAE of hematoma can be implemented as a safe alternative to surgery in large, clinically significant hematomas, regardless of aetiology or duration. The procedure carries less risk, stress and cost with the added benefit of outpatient treatment when compared to surgical treatment.

The Iliad presents the divine charioteering model as exemplified by Hera and Athena and examines how the fate of mortal charioteers including Antilokhos, Patroklos and Achilles is determined based on their ability to adhere to this model. Authors as diverse as Plato, Proclus, Pindar and Euripides build upon the divine charioteering model as they show examples of charioteers who, in varying degrees, follow this model. Recently, increasing interest in managing pedestrian and bicycle flows has been demonstrated by cities and transportation professionals aiming to reach community goals related to health, safety, and the environment. Precise forecasting of pedestrian and bicycle traffic flow is crucial for identifying the potential use of bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure and improving bicyclists’ safety and comfort. Advances in sensory technology enable collecting massive traffic flow data, including road traffic, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic flow. This paper introduces a novel deep hybrid learning model with a fully guided-attention mechanism to improve bicycles and pedestrians’ traffic flow forecasting. Notably, the proposed approach extends the modeling capability of the Variational Autoencoder (VAE) by merging a long short-term memory (LSTM) model with the VAE’s decoder and using a self-attention mechanism at multi-stage of the VAE model (i.e., decoder and before data resampling). Specifically, LSTM improves the VAE decoder’s capacity in learning temporal dependencies, and the guided-attention units enable selecting relevant features based on the self-attention mechanism. This proposed deep hybrid learning model with a multi-stage guided-attention mechanism is called GAHD-VAE. Proposed methods were validated with traffic measurements from six publicly available pedestrian and bicycle traffic flow datasets. The proposed method provides promising forecasting results but requires no assumptions that the data are drawn from a given distribution. Results revealed that the GAHD-VAE methodology can efficiently enhance the traffic forecasting accuracy and achieved better performance than the deep learning methods VAE, LSTM, gated recurrent units (GRUs), bidirectional LSTM, bidirectional GRU, convolutional neural network (CNN), and convolutional LSTM (ConvLSTM), and four shallow methods, linear regression, lasso regression, ridge regression, and support vector regression.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT The number of patients surviving critical illness has increased with advancements in medicine. Once discharged, approximately half of the patients will be suffering from post-intensive care syndrome. Measures to address these problems are being developed. One of the measures is a conversation with intensive care personnel scheduled some time after discharge. To systematize such a conversation, this project has designed an conversation guide for this purpose. The conversation guide is experienced as a useful tool for intensive care nurses, but it requires further experience to determine whether it functions optimally.

A highly loaded high-pressure turbine with a supersonic nozzle guide vane and a transonic rotor for a Variable Cycle Engine (VCE) has been investigated. Film cooling strategies were designed for the whole stage, during which the positions, injection orientations and arrangements of cooling holes were confirmed. Three-dimensional steady numerical simulations have been performed in the two operation modes of low and high bypass ratio with different thermodynamic cycle parameters according to the VCE and the coolant injections have been simulated by means of additional source term method. The influences of coolant injections in the fully cooled turbine stage on aerodynamic performance and flow characteristics have been analyzed. The results indicate that, the supersonic nozzle guide vane, over-expansion degree of main flows, fluctuations of static pressure and intensity of corner vortex are lessened or alleviated. In the transonic rotor, expansion and doing work capabilities in the mixed fluid are strengthened. Proper coolants injections are beneficial to the flow characteristics in the blade passage.

Exsperiment method is the right method for learning biology. Osmosis is one of the important biological concepts and can be used to understand other biological concepts and requires exsperimental activities to better understand students. The implementation of exsperimental activities is guided by Student Work Sheets (LKS). The better worksheet, the better achievement of the exsperimenal objectives. However, only 24% of LKS in the field are suitable. This study aims to analyze and reconstruct LKS osmosis exsperiment on grade XI which has been used in high school and equivalent. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a sample of 10 worksheets about osmosis in different curriculum taken using total sampling. The instrument used was the LKS analysis instrument (conceptual, practical and knowledge construction) to determine the suitability of LKS with the curriculum and rubrics based on Vee Diagrams (Novak and Gowin, 2006) to support the analysis of knowledge construction. The results of the analysis using the LKS analysis instrument found the most dominant problems including: (1) cognitive problems: 7 content LKS does not match with KD and 7 LKS competence does not match with KD; (2) practical problems; 10 The worksheet does not include a time allocation; and (3) knowledge construction problems: 6 LKS do not require students to do data analysis, 6 LKS do not construct student knowledge. While the results of the analysis using Diagram Vee found only 3-4 LKS who achieved an ideal score (score 3) on each component of Diagram Vee. The conclusion from the analysis can be seen that the worksheet already has a conceptual, practical and knowledge construction component and a Vee Diagram component, but there are still some problems and the scores obtained are not yet optimal. So there is a need for reconstruction, especially on the components mentioned earlier.&#x0D; Abstrak. Metode praktikum adalah metode yang tepat untuk pembelajaran biologi. Osmosis adalah salah satu konsep biologi yang penting dan dasar untuk dapat memahami konsep biologi yang lainnya dan membutuhkan kegiatan praktikum untuk lebih memahamkan peserta didik. Pelaksanaan kegiatan praktikum dipandu oleh Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik (LKPD). Semakin baik LKPD, maka akan semakin baik juga ketercapaian dari tujuan praktikum. Namun LKPD yang berada di lapangan hanya 24% saja yang sesuai. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan analisis, uji coba, rekonstruksi, dan membuat (ANCORB) alternatif LKPD praktikum osmosis di kelas XI yang selama ini digunakan di sekolah menengah atas dan sederajat. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan sampel 10 LKPD mengenai praktikum osmosis pada kurikulum yang berbeda yang diambil menggunakan cara total sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah instrumen analisis LKPD (analisis konseptual, praktikal dan konstruksi pengetahuan) untuk mengetahui kesesuaian LKPD dengan kurikulum dan rubrik berdasarkan Diagram Vee (Novak &amp; Gowin, 1984) untuk mendukung analisis konstruksi pengetahuan pada LKPD. Hasil uji coba menunjukkan masih terdapat prosedur dan hasil praktikum yang kurang sesuai. Sedangkan berdasarkan hasil analisis menggunakan instrumen masih ditemukan berbagai masalah baik itu pada aspek kognitif, aspek praktikal, dan aspek konstruksi pengetahuan. Kemudian hasil analisis dengan menggunakan Diagram Vee, beberapa LKPD belum mencapai skor ideal. Sehingga perlu adanya rekonstruksi terutama pada komponen-komponen yang bermasalah untuk menghasilkan alternatif LKPD praktikum osmosis yang lebih baik.

Abstract Viscoelastic assays (VEAs) that include thromboelastography and rotational thromboelastometry add value to the investigation of coagulopathies and goal-directed management of bleeding by providing a complete picture of clot formation, strength, and lysis in whole blood that includes the contribution of platelets, fibrinogen, and coagulation factors. Conventional coagulation assays have several limitations, such as their lack of correlation with bleeding and hypercoagulability; their inability to reflect the contribution of platelets, factor XIII, and plasmin during clot formation and lysis; and their slow turnaround times. VEA-guided transfusion algorithms may reduce allogeneic blood exposure during and after cardiac surgery and in the emergency management of trauma-induced coagulopathy and hemorrhage. However, the popularity of VEAs for other indications is driven largely by extrapolation of evidence from cardiac surgery, by the drawbacks of conventional coagulation assays, and by institution-specific preferences. Robust diagnostic studies validating and standardizing diagnostic cutoffs for VEA parameters and randomized trials comparing VEA-guided algorithms with standard care on clinical outcomes are urgently needed. Lack of such studies represents the biggest barrier to defining the role and impact of VEA in clinical care.

Abstract Objective Benign breast masses represent a substantial proportion of breast cancer screening results and may require multiple follow-up visits and biopsy. Even with a preceding benign core biopsy, benign masses have been excised via open surgery for a variety of reasons. This study compared the procedural costs of US-guided vacuum-assisted excision (US-VAE) versus open surgical excisions for benign breast masses and high-risk lesions (HRL). Methods In this retrospective cohort study, female outpatients receiving US-VAE or open excision of benign breast masses between 2015 and 2018 were identified within the Premier Healthcare Database. A secondary analysis was conducted for patients with HRLs. Propensity score matching and multivariate regression adjusted for patient demographics, encounter level covariates, and hospital characteristics. The total procedural costs were reported from a hospital perspective. Results A total of 33 724 patients underwent excisions for benign breast masses (8481 US-VAE and 25 242 open surgery). Procedural costs were significantly lower in unmatched patients who received US-VAE ($1350) versus open surgery ($3045) (P &amp;lt; 0.0001). After matching, a total of 5499 discharges were included in each group, with similar findings for US-VAE ($1348) versus open surgery ($3101) (P &amp;lt; 0.0001). A secondary analysis of matched HRL patients (41 discharges in each group) also showed significantly lower procedural costs with US-VAE ($1620) versus open surgery ($3870) (P &amp;lt; 0.0001). Conclusion Among patients with benign breast masses or HRLs, US-VAE was associated with significantly lower procedural costs versus open surgery. If excision is performed and expected clinical outcomes are equal, US-VAE is preferable to reduce costs without compromising the quality of care.

Abstract Background and study aims Video capsule endoscopy (VCE) is a minimally invasive tool that helps visualize the gastrointestinal tract from the esophagus to the right colon without the need for sedation or preparation. VCE is safe with very few contraindications. However, its role and safety profile in the intensive care unit (ICU) population have not been reported. The aim of this study is to evaluate the safety, efficacy, and feasibility of VCE use in ICU patients. Patients and methods We conducted a single-center retrospective observational study of patients who underwent VCE for evaluation of obscure overt gastrointestinal bleeding in the ICU between 2008 and 2016. Results This study included 48 patients who were admitted to the UMass Memorial Medical Center ICUs for gastrointestinal bleeding. VCE was successfully completed in 43/48 (90 %) patients. The entire length of small bowel could be evaluated in 75 % and the source of bleeding was identified in 44 % of the patients. The most commonly identified source of bleeding included small bowel angioectasias, duodenal erosions/ulcers, and small bowel polyps. No major complications could be attributed to the VCE. Only 1 capsule was retained after 2 wk; however, there was no incidence of bowel obstruction, perforation, or capsule aspiration. Conclusions This observational retrospective study demonstrates that VCE may be a safe, feasible, and effective diagnostic tool in evaluation of gastrointestinal bleeding in the ICU population with few complications. VCE may be a safe diagnostic prelude and be a guide to the correct therapeutic procedure if needed, in the context of patients who are seriously ill.

Despite recent successes in hair acquisition that fits a high-dimensional hair model to a specific input subject, generative hair models, which establish general embedding spaces for encoding, editing, and sampling diverse hairstyles, are way less explored. In this paper, we present GroomGen , the first generative model designed for hair geometry composed of highly-detailed dense strands. Our approach is motivated by two key ideas. First, we construct hair latent spaces covering both individual strands and hairstyles. The latent spaces are compact, expressive, and well-constrained for high-quality and diverse sampling. Second, we adopt a hierarchical hair representation that parameterizes a complete hair model to three levels: single strands, sparse guide hairs, and complete dense hairs. This representation is critical to the compactness of latent spaces, the robustness of training, and the efficiency of inference. Based on this hierarchical latent representation, our proposed pipeline consists of a strand-VAE and a hairstyle-VAE that encode an individual strand and a set of guide hairs to their respective latent spaces, and a hybrid densification step that populates sparse guide hairs to a dense hair model. GroomGen not only enables novel hairstyle sampling and plausible hairstyle interpolation, but also supports interactive editing of complex hairstyles, or can serve as strong data-driven prior for hairstyle reconstruction from images. We demonstrate the superiority of our approach with qualitative examples of diverse sampled hairstyles and quantitative evaluation of generation quality regarding every single component and the entire pipeline.

Background While the COVID-19 pandemic dramatically increased virtual care uptake across many health settings, it remains significantly underused in urgent care. Objective This study evaluated the implementation of a pilot virtual emergency department (VED) at an Ontario hospital that connected patients to emergency physicians through a web-based portal. We sought to (1) assess the acceptability of the VED model, (2) evaluate whether the VED was implemented as intended, and (3) explore the impact on quality of care, access to care, and continuity of care. Methods This evaluation used a multimethods approach informed by the RE-AIM (Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance) framework. Data included semistructured interviews with patients and physicians as well as postvisit surveys from patients. Interviews were transcribed and analyzed using thematic analysis. Data from the surveys were described using summary statistics. Results From December 2020 to December 2021, the VED had a mean of 153 (SD 25) visits per month. Among them, 67% (n=677) were female, and 75% (n=758) had a family physician. Patients reported that the VED provided high-quality, timely access to care and praised the convenience, shorter appointments, and benefit of the calm, safe space afforded through virtual appointments. In instances where patients were directed to come into the emergency department (ED), physicians were able to provide a “warm handoff” to improve efficiency. This helped manage patient expectations, and the direct advice of the ED physician reassured them that the visit was warranted. There was broad initial uptake of VED shifts among ED physicians with 60% (n=22) completing shifts in the first 2 months and 42% (n=15) completing 1 or more shifts per month over the course of the pilot. There were no difficulties finding sufficient ED physicians for shifts. Most physicians enjoyed working in the VED, saw value for patients, and were motivated by patient satisfaction. However, some physicians were hesitant as they felt their expertise and skills as ED physicians were underused. The VED was implemented using an iterative staged approach with increased service capabilities over time, including access to ultrasounds, virtual follow-ups after a recent ED visit, and access to blood work, urine tests, and x-rays (at the hospital or a local community laboratory). Physicians recognized the value in supporting patients by advising on the need for an in-person visit, booking a diagnostic test, or referring them to a specialist. Conclusions The VED had the support of physicians and facilitated care for low-acuity presentations with immediate benefits for patients. It has the potential to benefit the health care system by seeing patients through the web and guiding patients to in-person care only when necessary. Long-term sustainability requires a focus on understanding digital equity and enhanced access to rapid testing or investigations.

The reproduction, in complete darkness, of sequences of 5 horizontal saccades towards previously presented visual targets has been investigated in human subjects on the ground (control subjects) and one cosmonaut in microgravity. The incidence of corrective saccades during the execution of the memory-guided saccades in darkness has been examined. It was quite large for the control subjects (more than half of all saccades), and increased during the flight, while the corrective visually guided saccades incidence decreased. Direction errors occurred in about the third of all sequences on the ground, and this parameter also increased in microgravity. Memory-guided sequences were mostly hypermetric. Whereas the absolute error continuously increased with the target rank, it was not the case with the amplitude ratio, which presented a peak at the third rank, that is, at the middle of the sequence. The accuracy of the reproduction of the sequences did depend on the sequence pattern as much as on the subject. Some learning was observed in repeated reproduction of the same pattern. Although the average error did not change in microgravity, the linear regression coefficient between the visually guided and memory-guided saccades decreased.

Guided wave ultrasound (GWU) systems have been widely used for monitoring structures such as rails, pipelines, and plates. In railway tracks, the monitoring process involves the complicated propagation of waves over several hundred meters. The propagating waves are multi-modal and interact with discontinuities differently, increasing complexity and leading to different response signals. When the researcher wants to gain insight into the behavior of guided waves, predicting response signals for different combinations of modes becomes necessary. However, the task can become computationally costly when physics-based models are used. Digital twins can enable a practitioner to deal systematically with the complexities of guided wave monitoring in practical or user-specified settings. This paper investigates the use of a hybrid digital model of an operational rail track to predict response signals for varying user-specified settings, specifically, the prediction of response signals for various combinations of modes of propagation in the rail. The digital twin hybrid model employs a physics-based model and a data-driven model. The physics-based model simulates the wave propagation response using techniques developed from the traditional 3D finite element method and the 2D semi-analytical finite element method (FEM). The physics-based model is used to generate virtual experimental signals containing different combinations of modes of propagation. These response signals are used to train the data-driven model based on a variational auto-encoder (VAE). Given an input baseline signal containing only the most dominant mode excited by a transducer, the VAE is trained to predict an inspection signal with increased complexity according to the specified combination of modes. The results show that, once the VAE has been trained, it can be used to predict inspection signals for different combinations of propagating modes, thus replacing the physics-based model, which is computationally costly. In the future, the VAE architecture will be adapted to predict response signals for varying environmental and operational conditions.

Long-term video electroencephalographic (vEEG) monitoring is a valuable tool in the evaluation of par- oxysmal clinical events. However, vEEG itself is costly. We aimed to establish whether longer duration of monitoring (DOM) is associated with higher diagnostic yield. We performed a retrospective study of 501 patients admitted to the epilepsy monitoring unit for diagnostic evaluation. Overall, 436 (87%) patients had diagnostic studies. Of these, 67.9% patients received diagnosis within the first 7 days of monitoring with the highest during day 7. A total of 175 had DOM &gt;7 days of which 80.1% were diagnostic. In cohort with DOM &gt;7 days, patients with previous abnormal routine EEG, previous vEEG monitoring, earlier first event recorded and more number of events were more likely to have diagnostic studies. The most common reason for DOM &gt;7 days was to capture more events (76%). Our study supports that longer DOM was associated with an increase in diagnostic yield. More than one third of our cohort were monitored beyond 7 days with majority of these (80.1%) were diagnostic. Our findings may guide clinicians in planning DOM and predicting likelihood of diagnostic studies in patients with prolonged DOM based on clinical char- acteristics and vEEG data.

However, due to low signal-to-noise ratio of the financial data, it is quite challenging to learn effective factor models. In this paper, we propose a novel factor model, FactorVAE, as a probabilistic model with inherent randomness for noise modeling. Essentially, our model integrates the dynamic factor model (DFM) with the variational autoencoder (VAE) in machine learning, and we propose a prior-posterior learning method based on VAE, which can effectively guide the learning of model by approximating an optimal posterior factor model with future information. Particularly, considering that risk modeling is important for the noisy stock data, FactorVAE can estimate the variances from the distribution over the latent space of VAE, in addition to predicting returns. The experiments on the real stock market data demonstrate the effectiveness of FactorVAE, which outperforms various baseline methods.

Nærværende artikel anvender Noëlle Davies’ pjece Grundtvig of Denmark – a Guide to Small Nations fra 1944 til at reflektere over den skotske uafhængighedsdebat og til at overveje Skotlands fremtid efter afstemningen. Davies var en af de walisiske nationalister i tiden efter anden verdenskrig. Sammen med sin mand forsøgte hun at indføre mange af de grundtvigske idealer, som de havde stiftet bekendtskab med på Den Internationale Højskole i Helsingør. Skrevet, som den er, ud af efterkrigstidens nationale begejstring giver pjecen et enestående forbindelsesled mellem Grundtvig og nutidens skotske nationalisters ænkning.Selv om de toneangivende i folkeafstemningsdebatten var omhyggelige med ikke direkte at inddrage temaer om kultur, etnicitet og sprog, talte den brede befolkning åbent om, hvad det vil sige at være skotsk.
