Abstract:
This chapter collects evidence of temples as venues of the prophetic performance, prophets among the temple personnel and as advocates (sometimes even critics) of temple worship at Mari and in Assyria, in Greek sanctuaries, and in Jerusalem. The chapter discusses prophets and temples (institutions of religious worship)—the function and significance of temples and cult places varied according to their size, location, wealth, and status; their legitimacy and symbolic significance provided an identity for the community they served and the maintenance of their symbolic universe. Abstract:
Performing Authorship in Eighteenth-Century Periodicals discusses the English periodical and how it shapes and expresses early conceptions of authorship in the eighteenth century. Unique to the British eighteenth century, the periodical is of great value to scholars of English cultural studies because it offers a venue where authors hash out, often in extremely dramatic terms, what they think it should take to be a writer, what their relationship with their new mass-media audience ought to be, and what qualifications should act as gatekeepers to the profession. Exploring these questions in The

Abstract:
Through an analysis of Suzan-Lori Parks's Venus and Tony Kushner's Caroline, or Change, this chapter contemplates how cultural practice might be used to cut through and deactivate the unresolved grief that consolidates the racial divide in interracial community. It builds on a short theoretical account of the sexual and cultural underpinnings of the discourse of racial difference to consider the unique role contemporary theater might play in exhuming and mourning the social loss it has consolidated. To that end, the analysis draws on the racial scene and unseen to situate the plays as art of p

Abstract:
Although uncommon, a trapped central venous catheter (CVC) can present a significant problem for the interventionalist and pose considerable risk to the patient. The use of chronic long-term CVCs is on the rise, with an average catheter dwell time of 10 months. Although all CVCs are prone to complications, chronic catheters exhibit a higher rate of complications. Chronic catheters are also at risk of becoming trapped, whereby they cannot be removed by standard technique. A simple, elegant technique to remove a trapped CVC via inserting an angioplasty balloon into the lumen of a stuck catheter

Abstract:
Western democracies often trace their political roots back to Ancient Greece. While politics today may seem the dusty domain of lawmakers and pundits, in the classical era virtually no aspect of life was beyond its reach. Political life was not limited to acts of a legislature, magistrates, and the courts but routinely included the activities of social clubs, the patronage system, and expression through literature, art, and architecture. Through these varied means, even non-enfranchised groups (such as women and non-citizens) gained entry into a wider democratic process. Beyond the citizen wor
