This work aimed to identify the real cross-linguistic similarities between Portuguese and English concerning phrasal verbs and investigate the perception of such similarities by learners of English as a foreign language (EFL) who are native speakers of Portuguese. To confirm that Portuguese has structures that can be classified as phrasal verbs, we carried out a survey in verb and verb collocation dictionaries. Then, based on the research by Kellerman (1977) and Ringbom (2007) on the importance of perceived and/or assumed cross-linguistics similarities in foreign language learning, as well as on Sjöholm’s (1995) study on their effect on the learning of phrasal verbs, we used a multiple-choice test and semi-structured interviews to examine the perceptions of Brazilian learners of English and determine whether the similarities between the two languages in question affect the way they comprehend and use phrasal verbs. The searches in Portuguese dictionaries evinced that Portuguese language has phrasal verbs and that many of them have similarities of form and meaning with their English equivalents. The multiple-choice test showed that the learners have a greater tendency to choose phrasal verbs in English when there are equivalents in Portuguese. In the interviews, all of the respondents were able to identify the Portuguese equivalents of the English phrasal verbs presented, in spite of not having consciously found that relationship between the languages during the test. The results indicate that the perception of cross-linguistic similarities between L1 Portuguese and FL English concerning phrasal verbs leads to the facilitation in the comprehension and use of those structures in the target foreign language.

Full textOur thesis aims to analyze the factors of the expression of displacement, causativity and locative polarity in a subclass of French verbs, the causative verbs of displacement at initial polarity. The corpus of our verbs, drawn from the LADL examples, is about 250 verbs. We start from the observation that the verbs of this subclass can not be identified outside of particular constructions and we try to verify that the notion of displacement that they are likely to denote is, as the case may be, or central with respect to semantism of the verb, either peripheral or even favored by the immediate context. We also try to show that, these verbs are not necessarily causative or of initial polarity in all their jobs.We begin by identifying the causative verbs of our corpus by updating their defining properties and we emit a first hypothesis on their status as verbs of displacement verbs (central, peripheral, occasional, it being understood that in the type of construction initially chosen they are always causative and of initial polarity, and then we test this hypothesis based on a single use of our verbs by analyzing their other jobs with respect to the notions of displacement, causativity and initial polarity. This analysis is based on the principle that in general the central displacement verbs are real displacement in the sense that their semantic values

In the description of the Brazilian Portuguese, the valency of verbs of movement opens four spaces which are fullfilled by adverbial expressions considered locatives of origen and goal. These expressions present peculiarities regarding the realization in utterances. Based on the proposals of the valency grammar, an analysis of qualitative aspect was provided aiming to examine the possibility of realization of each argument mentioned and the motivations and results generated in their relationship with the verbs on which they depend. The locatives that indicate goal and complement the fourth space of the verbs of movement / direction occur more often when these verbs infer location transferance. This dissertation considers the value of prepositions that accompany the complements and the adverbs that indicate the deitic space.

Full textThis present study investigates the Russian verbal prefix v(o)- and circumfix v(o)- -sja in the concrete physical space. The aim of the contrastive study is to explore and describe meanings. Bilingual data, extracted from a contemporary Russian-Swedish dictionary, is analysed by using Krongauz’s method. A list of meanings of the Russian verbal affixes is built by comparing similarities and differences between lexical meanings and morphosyntactic structures for the verbs in both languages. The result shows that the meanings of the affixes can be divided into the following categories: Spatial movements into an enclosed space, Spatial movements onto a delimited surface, Spatial movements towards a vicinity, Adhesion and Locations in physical space.

This research aims at the development of the possibility of anti-racism of whiteness - white racial identity - as the social representations of black and white gifts in institutional forums of the Black Movement in Salvador, Bahia, my "theme-field" . In the first part of the dissertation, that is in Chapters I and II, realize the ethical-political and theoretical - methodological discussions that support this hermeneutic route. Therefore, I make use of the proposition challenge to a decolonial anthropology about race; holding of "ethnographic practice politically engaged"; the "bservant participation"; "self etnography"; and semi-structured qualitative interview technique. In the second part (Chapters III and IV) speak as discourse analysis and practice in the field, on my apprehensions about the habitus of the "White out of place" and the symbolic system related to this subject that is among the agency areas of MN and proposed anti-racist. As for the framework, in general, I prepared an interface between the epistemologies of the coloniality power paradigm, and the body, and the knowledge; studies of the critical field of disseminated whiteness in Brazil; and part of the genealogy of black thought. I could conclude that the representations in the field are related to circularity between academic thinking and empiricist ideology, the common census and state conceptions; there is no consensus on the possibility of alliances between white and MN, even in the microstructure of an entity, but is not graspable in Salvador any organization to completely veto the political relationship with them; there is the possibility of anti-racism of the white them and this is, in general terms, encoded by the MN, but not without reservations. These exceptions lead us to understand the difference between anti-racism and non-racism and the impossibility of the white / non reproduce racism, so it is not racist in times of "world-system / patriarchal / capitalist / colonial / modern".

The pain may be the main reason of interruption ordiscontinuance of orthodontic treatment. Most patients experience at some stage of the treatment any kind of pain anddiscomfort. The aim of this randomized double-blind parallel placebo- ontrolled clinical trial was to compare the clinical actionof the preemptive use of dexamethasone and ibuprofen for reliefor pain control during orthodontic treatment. It was selected one hundred patients in orthodontic treatment in the clinic of orthodontics at State University of Ponta Grossa. The mean age was 25 years (range from 18 to 49 years). Patients were divided into three experimental groups: G1 (n = 25) received anenvelope containing 600mg of ibuprofen arginine 555mg withG2 (n = 25) one tablet of 4mg dexamethasone; G3 (n = 50) placebo control. Each participant answered a questionnaire inwhich dental anxiety reported prior experience with the treatmentof pain. The drugs were administered previously the query of placing rectangular arches, and each participant wrote downspecific form of the experience of pain at times 2,6,12,24 and 48hours after device activation. To measure the pain experience of each participant was used a numerical scale of 101 points(NRS).The results showed that except in time of 2 hours, G1 and G3 showed no statistically significant differences . The G2 group showed the lowest pain scores at all times and showed statistically significant differences compared to G1 and G3. It may be concluded that ibuprofen is effective for pain relief only in a period of up to 2 hours after orthodontic activation and that dexamethasone may be indicated as a medication of choice because it is efficient in the period up to 48 hours.

This research aims to rescue the historical of the student movement in UEPG (1969-2009). For this study were collected though exploratory information that led us, among other information, to research subjects. From this first approach we try to list some of the constituent elements of social movements in the beacons on the analysis of the student movement in UEPG along the junctures. Through qualitative research, conducted interviews with 11 subjects whose speech comprised the dialogue between national contexts and their relationship with the student movement (specifically the UEPG). This relationship also allowed evidence of the crucial components that characterize the ME-UEPG over the periods. Thus, we see that in the historical analysis, the student movement of UEPG not limited – in general – the representative organizations. Assuming a cyclic action, ie there are periods where the demand “require” a higher activity of groups and leaders, who make up the movement which in turn articulate their bases, revising its practices and participate in the process of fighting for improved conditions of university and/or society as a whole.
