Biochemistry and medicine are inextricably linked. The present case report describes a clinical case of FGA. The clinical signs, blood morphology and biochemistry, ultrasound and histopathological findings are presented. Abstract:
Every year, ten thousand Sunda Pangolins (Manis javanica) are rescued and confiscated from the illegal trade around Southeast Asia, including Thailand. Most of them are usually moribund and need intensive veterinary interventions to recover their health before being released to the wild. However, a lack of reliable haematology and clinical biochemistry references for Thai confiscated Sunda pangolins is a major difficulty for reaching this goal. The aim of this study was to establish a standard panel of haematology and serum biochemistry profiles used for confiscated pangolins in Thailand. Cocc

A long-haired, male, neutered domestic cat was referred to a veterinary clinic for the first time at 13 years of age due to anorexia, vomiting, dehydration, and depression. Blood biochemistry revealed renal azotemia. The cat was only given food for animals with kidney failure, and no treatment was given. Three weeks before its death at 16 years of age, the clinical signs returned, becoming more frequent and intense. The cat was referred to the veterinary clinic again, and also severe hypertension and mild dyspnea as the unique respiratory signs were detected. Blood biochemistry again revealed

BackgroundHepatic disease in psittacine birds is common but challenging to diagnose. This retrospective study evaluates the diagnostic value of plasma biochemistry, haematology, radiography and endoscopic visualisation in psittaciforms with suspected hepatic disease that underwent endoscopic liver biopsy.MethodsClinical records of 28 companion psittaciforms from a veterinary teaching hospital (2007–2016) were reviewed. Diagnostic results were categorised as abnormal or normal and compared with histopathology for agreement or disagreement. Statistical significance was determined by kappa test f

A three-year-old male, Chippiparai dog was presented to the Dermatology unit of Madras Veterinary College Hospital with the complaint of bleeding from right ear tip. History revealed normal appetite, regular deworming and vaccination schedule (recent Anti rabies vaccination). The general clinical examination revealed parameters within the normal range except for the presence of a wedge-shaped ulcerated lesion at the ear tip. Haemogram and serum biochemistry revealed parameters within the normal range. Based on the history of recent vaccination and clinical presentation, the case was diagnosed

AbstractIn view of the enormous variability of dog breeds, breed-specific reference intervals (RIs) are recommended for use in veterinary clinical decision-making. The aim of this study was to determine whether RIs of the general canine population may be applied to the Italian Greyhound (Piccoli Levrieri Italiani or PLI), and to generate breed-specific RIs, where appropriate. Sixty-three privately owned clinically healthy fasted dogs were examined. Routine haematology and biochemistry were performed on 58 enrolled patients using the ADVIA 120 haematology analyzer and the Cobas Mira system, res

Abstract:
The present study compares the diagnoses on clinical bovine mastitis made in veterinary clinics using conventional diagnostic methods with diagnoses on the same samples made by a veterinary reference laboratory using MALDI-TOF MS as diagnostics. The study enables targeted and evidence-based consulting on prudent mastitis diagnostics and related antibiotic usage. In total, 492 samples from clinical mastitis were included. When applying MALDI-TOF MS as gold standard, only 90 out of 492 diagnoses made in veterinary clinics, equal to 18%, were correct. Four main findings were important: (1) the ve
