Full textThe objective of this research is to determine the esthetic causes for the fall of Athens. In the course of our work, we have understood that the esthetic causes represent the faithful reflection of the social and political reality experienced by the athenians. Moreover, these socio-political values are solidly anchored in the official religion consisting of myths coming from a distant past. During the entire course of our research, we were constantly confronted by the specific plastic-esthetic model of the heroic archetype. This archetype, the fundamental element of athenian ideation, born in the collective unconscious and torn between dionysian and appolonian forces, was the determining cause of athen's annihilation

Full textThe aim of this essay was to examine the student teachers, who study the last semester at Malmö högskola school of education, attitudes towards their trainee post. The attitudes contain not only the trainee post as such, but also attitudes towards the instructor at the trainee post, the mentor at the school of education and the views of the theoretical goals which the student shall achieve. We used a qualitative method in shape of interviews to get the result. The interviews took place at the school of education and were executed at two separate occasions. We did not focus the result on gender, age or ethnicity, our only limitation was that the student’s primary subject was physical education and that they study the last semester at the teacher education. The result showed that the attitudes toward the trainee post were mostly positive. It also showed that the extent of freedom of responsibility was an important aspect of the student’s development and learning and that the theoretical goals were a bit indistinctive. The result was later analysed through two theoretical perspectives, a sociocultural perspective and a theory based on situated learning. This was later connected with a comprehensive discussion.

Full textRemi, bishop of Reims (ca. 461-535), was born in a senatorial family of Laon, deeply touched by the lerinian monasticism. He took his place in the bilding of the Frankish monarchy (christening of Clovis). Searching his relative, we can partly explain the expansion of his cult: during the 6th century, it is a civic cult for people of Reims, changing to an aristocratic cult during the 7th century. With the beginning of the 9th century, we observe the first celebration of saint Remi's role in converting the Franks as a nation. The theme is emphasized by Hincmar's Vita Remigii, written continually from 852 to 882. After Hincmar (845-882), the archbishops of Reims use Remi as an image of their authority and an incarnation of their political ambitions. After the coronation of Philip Ith (1059), saint Remi becomes the patron of the anointed kings. Our inquiry mainly leans on prosopography, hagiography of Reims province and the first edition of a text attributed to the monk Rotgar (ca. 883)

Full textThe research proposes to introduce the concept of high cost-of-living from customers’ point of view into managementscience. In order to do this, the research first proposes to define the concept of high cost of from customers’ point of viewand to identify its content. Secondly, the research focuses on the antecedents of the concept and its consequences onconsumers' purchasing behavior. The empirical approach is based on a Mixed Methods Research. This is a research method that involves combining boththe elements of a quantitative and qualitative approach in order to understand the high cost-of-living from customers’point of view. Two main empirical studies have been carried out: (1) a qualitative exploratory study composed of severalmethods of data collection (semi-directive interviews, netnography, survey at the exit of a supermarket) and (2) aquantitative confirmatory study with a sample of 700 residents of Réunion Island. The qualitative study allows (1) to determine the causes of this high cost-of-living from customers’ point of view, (2) todefine the concept and to structure its content and (3) to analyze the consequences of this evaluation on consumerpurchasing behavior. From the results of the qualitative study and the literature review, a series of assumptions and themodel of research are formulated. The assumptions and the model are tested during the quantitative study. The quantitative study allows (1) to validate a measuring instrument of evaluation of the high cost-of-living, (2) todetermine the influence of this evaluation on consumer buying behavior, and (3) to emphasize the moderating role ofPPA.The main contributions of this research are the conceptualization of the high cost of living from customers’ point of viewand the description of the consequences of this evaluation on consumer

Full textThe implementation of a Quality of Working Life policy yields multiple benefits. From the point of view of businesses, it enables an improvement in economic performance via an increase in productivity and competiveness. For employees, it preserves the integrity of collectives whilst also reinforcing equality. More broadly, it responds to an issue of social wellbeing and public health, in contributing to more viable social security systems”.The SEM VFD coach transport company is confronted with numerous difficulties with regard to its professional relations (disengagement and de-motivation of employees, absenteeism and significant lateness, conflicting relationships with unions, recruitment difficulties, high turnover, etc.). It therefore needs to analyse the Quality of Working Life of its employees and to act to ensure their satisfaction. The thesis project was undertaken within the framework of an Industrial Convention of Training by Research (Convention Industrielle de Formation par la Recherche - CIFRE). It consisted, on the one hand, of monitoring satisfaction indicators (notably absenteeism) in order to establish an analysis of the work situation and, on the other hand, defining areas of improvement in order to successfully implement a more effective management of human resources, simultaneously improving economic performance and quality of work. This thesis comprises five chapters. The first seeks to determine the risk factors present within businesses (section 1) and to evaluate their consequences, not only for individuals and businesses, but also for the community as a whole (section 2). The second chapter aims to identify the principal indicators that can warn of dissatisfaction and suffering at work (an entire section is devoted to absenteeism, a particularly revealing indicator). The third chapter clarifies the notion of Quality of Working Life (section 1) and demonstrates the links that it has with the performance of a business (section 2). The fourth chapter provides an overview of Quality of Working Life within VFD (via a Quality of Working Life Systemic Inventory). Finally the last chapter examines the issues surrounding the implementation of a Quality of Working Life approach (section 1) and defines the measures necessary to improve economic performance and wellbeing at work (section 2)

In spite of their shared situation these women presented varied movements concerning : - the subject matt. Er: each speaker, telling her story put into play several themes and presented different points of view about these themes. - the genre : starting from the genre they were asked for, tell about your life”, the interviewed women entered into different concrete genres that articulated the narration with argumentative movements that mixed in explanatoruy, evaluative, or justifying discourse. The narrative genre took on different features, ranging from pure narrative to indeterminate generic narrative or imaginary (fictitious) narrative. - the worlds : in telling about her personal life, each woman alternated (in relation to the theme in question) belween specific and generic. Statemenis, and discourse about “F’. ‘we’ they”, or the French third person singular “on”. Through these different movements, each woman’s discourse presented both features shared with die others and a discourse and mode of reaction that differed, giving each woman particular subj ect status. Full textIn the manner of Herodotus, Thucydides and Strabon, a lot of ancient authors stress the amazing wealth of Samos in antiquity. The wealth and prosperity of Samos, especially during the tyrant Polycrates' period, became by the way one topos of the ancient historiography. Once this tradition reaching us, one thought that it was not necessary to explain the origine, nature, conditions or limits of the economic flourishing of the Samians behind that topos. Indeed, why should we try to specify what formed anyway a consensus for the Ancients and whose Heraion was the most emblematic witness ? This work of research aims, no more the illustration of the samian economic prosperity, but a discussion of the data available to reach a more accurate view of it during the Vlth and Vth centuries B.C. This period, between samian tyrannies of the VIth century and the athenian domination of the Vth century, seems opportune to examine the economic changes occuring in the economic life of Samos. This project consists in the gathering and discussing of the most pertinent available informations (literary, archaeological, epigraphical and numismatical) to make a history of samian economies. Following the highly stimulating works of the New Institutions Economics (NIE), this project proposes to focus the study on the samian group and its institutionnal choices and options. How do the Samians deal with the scarcity of goods ? What kind of strategies do they enforce ? What economic ways do they know ? Particularly, this thesis is dealing with the land-question at Samos, then, with the ways by which the Samians succeed in integrating differents networks of exchange and, finally, what types of coordination regulate the samian economic life in the Vlth and Vth centuries

Full textThe thesis is based on the constat that gestures in images are semantically polyvalent. Gestures have to assume also the verbal expression of supplication. It's a interaction of signs that does not refer to a structurate ritual, supplication is expressed by numerous rituals and figurative solutions. These is constructed by 7 chapter, centred about one ore more mythical characters. (Priamos, Alkmena, Telephos, Orestes, Kassandra, Dejanira). Suppliant in the center of composition is like a picture into a picture, with a process that is parallel of the textual one in attic tragedy. This statue/suppliant, fixed on the altar, take life by the gestures that implicate him. Supplication play on numerous levels, but in images it's thought almost essentially in the way of oikos

"Lärarstudenterns upplevelser av den verksamhetsförlagda utbildningen : "Handledaren måste veta vad VFU innebär så att han inte tror att det är praktik á la 80-talet"." Thesis, University of Kalmar, School of Human Sciences, 2009. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:hik:diva-2154.

Full textThis research analyses how social spaces, political spaces and electoral behaviour are interrelated and interacting in urban context. It focuses on a particular urban area within the parisian region : the department of hauts-de-seine. The political and electoral history of this area can be divided into three main stages. For each of theses stages, the research studies what are the levels of interpretation which are the most appropriate to analyse the local political society. Since 1965, the old socio-spatial dichotomy witch opposed the communist party to the gaullist party has progressively been transformed. The recent local politicial landscape has been modified, due to two main processes : on one side, the creation of a new socialist party, succeding to and partly contrasting with the old sfio, and, on the other side, the modernization of the gaullist apparatus

Full textThe purpose of this thesis is to show by a comparative study of the Life of Saint Martin, written in prose by Sulpice Severe at the end of the fourth century, and the two lives written in verse - one by Paulin of Périgueux in the second half of the fifth century, the other by Venance Fortunat in the last quarter of the sixth century - that the two poetic transcriptions of the work reflect a different conception of art as well as a different approach to the spirituality of saint Martin. Sulpice severe wrote the life of Saint Martin and the dialogues to vindicate martin, the bishop of tours, whom he personally knew, against the attacks of the gallo-roman opinion. He proceeded to literary choices to account for the complex personality of a man who was altogether a soldier and monk, an ascetic and a bishop. Paulin de Périgueux updated Sulpice's work to make it accessible to a reader from the fifth century. He set the acts of martin in a human background to make them visually present, and looked for a unifying principle to weld together episodes that Sulpice had merely juxtaposed so that the spiritual and moral meaning might appear. Venance Fortunat distanced himself from the real facts of the earthly life of martin. He treated the episodes as self-contained compositional units chasing them as jewellers or workers in mosaic did at that time. He revealed a spiritual dimension of martin by portraying him as a heavenly intercessor

Full textAt the beginning of the fifth eleventh century, in islamic spain, burts a serious political crisis which ended by the abolishment of the caliphate of cordoba and the carving up of the country into many tiny kingdoms. Paradoxically, this desastrous situation, from the political pint of view, originated an expansion in the culturel field as never before. Actually, never had poets hand prosaist been so numerous, nor literary works so abundant and varied. The andalusians dealt with all poetic matters in every possible maner, but with a special interest for nature and pleasures of life. Yet, due to political circumstances, it had to be a court poetry and itwas supported by the petty courts ruler's patronage. As to the andalusian prose-writers, they had a special predilection for the flowery language (badi) written in versified and rithmical prose (sag). Originality was not their main concern; more than anything else they wanted to compete with the orientals - or even surpass them. And indeed, to a great extent, they succeeded

Full textEnergy storage system such as supercapacitors are widely used in high power applications. However, due to single cell voltage limitation, an energy storage system (module) is often employed. It contains a chain structure of identical elements and ensures voltage adaptation to the corresponding application requirements. Energy management systems are associated to energy storage systems in order to assure user and equipment security. Their main role is to monitor and control energy storage systems elements continuously. The work presented aims to enhance the lifetime of energy storage systems. It relies on establishing balancing circuits on the terminals of the storage system elements. These control circuits are energy management system devices. Thus, various control approaches are discussed, analyzed and compared. They aim to estimate the supercapacitor's state of health. In addition, a new approach of balancing circuits is proposed. It is based on estimating the level of degradation of the elements. Thus, It allows aging speed equalization between module elements and storage system lifetime maximization. Some main results of the work could be generalized to batteries

Full textContext : The evolution of practices in alcohol use disorder field, following the model of patient-centered care, lets revisit the concept of remission for a better consideration of the patient's point of view, participating predominantly in the definition of therapeutic objectives and in their assessment. Yet few of these subjective criteria of the evaluation of patient outcomes have actually included the patient in their development. Until recently, quality of life instruments the most used among patients with alcohol use disorder were generic ones, and their development and particularly generation of items did not involve patients, but rather experts and were based on existing literature. Methods : we conducted a systematic literature review identifying randomized clinical trials testing an intervention in alcohol-dependent patients, and measuring its effectiveness on quality of life. We have listed the dimensions explored in the existing instruments. It has been shown that these instruments did not optimally explore the impact of alcohol dependence on quality of life in this population. On this, we have developed a scale specific for patients with alcohol use disorder, following the recommendations of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on the development of "Patient-Reported Outcomes", namely involving patients extensively. We used the method of focus groups conducted in parallel in France and Great Britain with 38 patients with alcohol use disorder. These groups allowed the generation of a pool of items, secondarily tested by individual cognitive interviews with 31 patients, resulting in the final scale "Alcohol Quality of Life Scale" (AQoLS). We then validated the AQoLS scale on a sample of 285 French patients with alcoho use disorder, recruited from randomly selected centers in France. Results: The scale has 34 items developed, distributed in seven dimensions: social relationships, activities, living conditions, looking after self, negative emotions, sleep and loss of control. The validation study confirmed six of the seven dimensions, with a slightly different distribution of the items. The "looking after self" dimension disappeared in favor of a new dimension of self-esteem. Control and self-esteem dimensions are innovative in a health-related quality of life instrument in adults. The scale showed good psychometric properties, with good internal consistency (Cronbach = 0.96), and a moderate correlation with sub-scores of the SF-36 and EQ-5D. A qualitative complementary work could illustrate the links between the different affected areas, including the proximity in patients’ perception between self-esteem, loss of control and cognitive impairment. Conclusion : The move towards a model of patient-centered care allows considering a different approach of remission and to build and validate a measure of health-related quality of life close to the concerns of patients with a alcohol use disorder, AQoLS scale. Two innovative dimensions were attached to this concept: loss of control from the patient's perspective, and self-esteem
Caillaud, Annaïg. "À la rencontre d'Iris - Déesses ailées dans la céramique attique (VIe-Ve siècles av.notre ère)." Thesis, Paris, EHESS, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017EHES0160.
Full textIris—the rainbow and the “Golden Winged” swift messenger—is a divinity of the second rank whose representations on Attic ceramics of the 6th and 5th centuries BC have been little studied; this is due to the great number of representations of winged goddesses on Attic ceramics, which necessarily leads to confusions and identification problems, first and foremost with Nike, but also with Eos, Hebe and other divinities to a lesser extent. Therefore, we have tried to understand the experimentation and games of Attic images and, more specifically, what constitutes this “pantheon of images”: to this end, we have analysed the confusions by determining probable fusions of images, while at the same time considering both the diversity and the polysemy of the iconography of the goddess Iris. What is at stake with these analyses is the possibility to apprehend a Greek vision of the image of winged women, to see the evolution of the representations of gods on Attic ceramics, and what the conceptualisation of the connection between the divine and the human worlds through images implies; to do so, we have carried out various investigations depending on the themes that we have been led to address because of and starting from these images. We have considered not only the images but also the interpretations of Attic texts which have been made these last years, and the society which produced these images as well. Thus, we have tried to use a pluralist perspective, one which was initiated by Jean-Pierre Vernant, among others, and combining three approaches—anthropology, the history of religion and visual culture—in order to grasp the scope of the representations of the goddess Iris

Full textThe Gram-positive bacteria Enterococci, belong to the normal intestinal flora in humans and in animals. In the following study, vancomycin-variable enterococci (VVE) are investigated. VVE is a vanA-positive bacteria, meaning that they are sensitive to vancomycin and can develop a resistance in vivo. Vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) consists of two different species of bacteria, Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium. Furthermore, VVE consists of E. faecium and can be difficult to detect with a culture-based diagnostic andcan therefore lead to the bacterium being underdiagnosed. This in turn means that the bacteria can be quietly spread within the hospital. VVE has a unique ability, it can transition from vancomycin-variables to having vancomycin-resistant phenotypes. Therefore, this study investigates at what vancomycin concentration the VVE broths can be enriched in the broths before the qPCR. The results show that the vancomycin concentration is optimal at 2 mg/L. However, for the background flora this might be a too high concentration.

Full textOn the topic of the archaic greek epigraphy of peloponnesos, this study deals with the elean official texts from the second half of the vith to the end of the vth century b. C. These are the eldest texts concerning the political an religious life of the elean people. The first part of the thesis is a new critical edition of the inscriptions with their traduction and pictures. The paleographical study of these inscriptions as well those on elean coins permitted to improve the datation of both types of documents. The second part concerns the dialect in which the texts are written: the elean dialect. All the problems about language which occured in the edition of the inscription are discussed according to the usual plan for this domain of research: 1)phonetic and phonology. 2)morphology. 3)syntax. 4)lexicon. In this way the originality of the dialect and also his bounds with the other greek dialects appears clear. The third part is a synthesis on the institutions and history of the eleans down to 400 b. C. It is through the study of the way the eleans took control of the santuary of zeus in olympia and also through the study of the institutions of this political community and of the politic organization of elis, that we understand how did this santuary become under the control of the eleans from the archaic period onwards, considering that they were established 50 kms away from olympia

Full textThe present study is dedicated to the ethné of the “Thraco-Macedonian” region at the end of the 6th and the beginning of the 5th century B.C. These ethné (tribes), which are mentioned only in passing in ancient sources were an important element in the region of the Northern Aegean, interacting in multiple ways with the Greeks and the Persians who had established themselves in the region. The absence of extended literary references has left the specialists without many points of reference, given that archaeological finds that could be attributed with any degree of certainty to these ethné are equally rare. Only the coins offer a subsequent material and it is for this reason that the study of the numismatic evidence takes up an important part of the present thesis. It is for the first time that a corpus of the parallel series of coins attributed to the ethné is here presented, accompanied by a study of the dies but also of the hoards. The combination of these elements has lead to a new dating of the monetary series, which in turn leads to a reconsideration of the history of the region

Full text"autobiography and romantic", "present instants of happiness" and "the tragedy of the human condition" : are the three parts which are developped in this research. In the first part, we used the "thematic method" to analyse the events wich constructed the literary work and divulged through the part of autobiography which is included in the narrative structure of the work. The three axes which nourished the second part are : the travels, the remembrance, the memory and the dream. By means of the writing itself alexandre vialatte triumphed over the du ness of the daily life. Making use of these instants, he enjoyed himself with these instants of happiness. But is the tragedy of the human condition going to annihilate all these fantasies? a question such as this we are going to ask in the third part by using the two themes of labyrinth and of the death

Full textThe aim of the thesis is the analysis of the influence of Synesius’ De regno on the development of political theory during the Vth and VIth centuries. Firstly, the definition of Synesius’ political ideology in the context of his neoplatonic and christian Alexandrian paideia is taken into account. In order to understand the role played by Synesius’ De regno in the transmission of ancient political topoi, an investigation on some representative proto-byzantine works on political science (Procopius Gazaeus’ Panegyricus to the Emperor Anastasius, Agapetus’ Advice to the Emperor, the anonymus Dialogue on Political Science and John the Lydian’s On powers, or, The magistracies of the Roman state) is proposed. The conclusions try to focus on the impact of Synesius’ De regno in the evolution of proto-byzantine political theories and rhetorics during the Vth century up to Justinian’s times thanks to the individuation of quotations, allusions and literary patterns of continuity in the works previously analysed

Full textThe relation between text and power in imperial Chinas often analyzed in terms of "literature" and "politics". In this study about literate elites at the imperial court in 5th-6th century Southern China, I propose to move away from these two notions. First, I move away from the notion of "literature". Instead overtaking this notion as the starting point, I propose that of "literate knowledge ", in order to highlight the active dimension of the knowledge displayed when reading and writing. I argue that literate knowledge has mostly an administrative and ethical meaning at court, but also th at the mean ing of this knowledge varied according to the position at court of the literate men appropriating it. Second, I propose a particular approach to "politics". Instead of basing my analysis on ready-made notions about conflict dynamics and about the representations of political power at court (such as "competition", "patrimonial power" or even "State"), I have developed my own categories (for instance, by redefining terms such as "bureaucratism", "aristocratism" and "rivalry"), examined the specificity of political conflicts between literati at court and, finally, analyzed the plurality of the language used by literati to describe political power. In sum, I have attempted to understand the grounds of what I have called 'literate politics"

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to investigate and recoganize mystical narratives and the art of such a narration, in particular we concentrate on the importance of this kind of narration during 5th and 6th centuries. According to our proposal about mystical narration. It seems indispensable to study different historical conditions which were related to the authors’ behavior. Indeed, our sole concern, when conducting the study of those periods, is to recall exact situations of the mystical works in Persian language, as completely as possible. At the same time, it is an occasion to specify several points:both the evolution and spread of the tales on a long period. As well, we establish conditions of the revival of Persian narrations that had been started since 5th century by the mystical sense. A long and patient examination of mystical works of 5th and 6th century clearly shows that the authors’ ambition had not been only to compose these works, but also to make them didactic and meaningful tools in the guise of tales. The minute study of the narratives, which constitutes the pedagogical and educative part of those mystical works, shows that their authors were indeed ideologists who knew the social, cultural and political conditions of their time and on the base of this knowledge they entailed decisive transformations in the construction of tales at that time. Narration as it was practiced during the two mentioned centuries is an inheritance from two different currents. On one side, a Pre-Islamic current in which, the Iranian society was immersed by its own legends and narratives; and on the other hand, Islam and Koranic spirituality inspiring a new soul to the universe of narratives. The creation of the narratives of 5th and 6th centuries consists of a particular language, fixed goals, and distinctive specificities. To weight up the fundamental transformations, it is enough to compare their specificities by those of previous centuries’ narratives. In this thesis, once we end the discussion on the above mentioned points. We proceed to classify and statistically analyze two thousand five hundred and eighty-nine narratives that were ascertained in the used references. This particular reasoning mainly allows collecting more different precise and clearer information about narrative. This study is based on the statistical graphs of each of those mystical works and the results are obtained by comparison. After having examined and studied those graphs, it is easier to understand purposes which those mystical works’ writers really strove to demonstrate. This thesis is divided into three parts: In part one, we first recall the social, cultural and political properties of the 5th and 6th centuries. Then we analyze fifteen works of nine works of mystical narrations. The chief concern will be the genesis of each of the narratives going along with each mystical work. This part especially contributed a better explanation of those narratives on the inner side, as it underlines a close link between the narratives and the mystical thought of these seekers for the absolute. The second part deal with narrative and narration. After we study their respective role in Islam and Iran, we broach to define mystical narrative and mystical language according to the mystical writers of those two centuries and of the language that marked them. This will be followed by considerations on the purpose –or particularity- of those different narratives as well as the Koranic style of the narration. A recapitulative classification of the elements and characters will be found at the end of this part just before a statistical plan and the representation of the graphs of the narratives of each presented work. The main issue is to enumerate the narratives of each category. The third part is entirely devoted to the analysis and study of the results drawn from the statistics and graphs. Indeed, to give a better proof for the reasons of the narratives and to show the importance of a very particular narrative category in these works, it is necessary to notice to the historical transformations of Sufism. Finally, we explain and illustrate three special styles of mystical narratives
