We study Ruelle's type zeta and L-functions for a torsion free abelian group Γ of rank ν ≥ 2 defined via an Euler product. It is shown that the imaginary axis is a natural boundary of this zeta function when ν = 2, 4 and 8, and in particular, such a zeta function has no determinant expression. Thus, conversely, expressions like Euler's product for the determinant of the Laplacians of the torus ℝν/Γ defined via zeta regularizations are investigated. Also, the limit behavior of an arithmetic function arising from the Ruelle type zeta function is observed.

In this note, we study the evaluations of Euler sums via trigonometric series. It is a commonly believed conjecture that for an even weight greater than seven, Euler sums cannot be evaluated in terms of the special values of the Riemann zeta function. For an even weight, we reduce the evaluations of Euler sums into the evaluations of double series and integrals of products of Clausen functions. Abstract We generalize a protocol by Yu for comparing two integers with relatively small difference in a secure multiparty computation setting. Yu's protocol is based on the Legendre symbol. A prime number p is found for which the Legendre symbol (· | p) agrees with the sign function for integers in a certain range {−N, . . . , N} ⊂ ℤ. This can then be computed efficiently. We generalize this idea to higher residue symbols in cyclotomic rings ℤ[ζr ] for r a small odd prime. We present a way to determine a prime number p such that the r-th residue symbol (· | p) r agrees with a desired function

We introduce various Ruelle type zeta functions ζL(s) according to a choice of homogeneous "length functions" for a lattice L in [Formula: see text] via Euler products. The logarithm of each ζL(s) yields naturally a certain arithmetic function. We study the asymptotic distribution of averages of such arithmetic functions. Asymptotic behavior of the zeta functions at the origin s=0 are also investigated.
