The stringent stability requirements imposed by advanced, high-resolution payloads have produced an increased interest in the development of better-performing micro-vibration isolators. Several devices aimed at mitigating micro-vibrations have been studied and implemented, but their application is still far from being ideal due to the several drawbacks that they present, such as limited low-frequency attenuation for passive systems or high power consumption and reliability issues for active systems. Since their invention in the early 1900s, Tuned Vibration Absorbers (TVAs) have shown to be effective in suppressing vibrations of machines and structures. A vibration absorber is a vibratory subsystem attached to a primary system. It normally consists of a mass, a spring, and a damper. Mounted to the primary system, a TVA counteracts the motions of the primary system, "absorbing" the primary structure's vibrations. A conventional passive TVA, however, is only effective when it is tuned properly, hence, the name "tuned" vibration absorber. In many practical applications, inevitable off-tu

Abstract:
Current trends in construction industry demands taller and lighter structures, which are also more flexible and having quite low damping value. This increases failure possibilities and also, problems from serviceability point of view. Several techniques are available today to minimize the vibration of the structure, out of which concept of using of TLD is a newer one. This study was made to study the effectiveness of using TLD for controlling vibration of structure. A numerical algorithm was developed to investigate the response of the frame model, fitted with a TLD. A linear TLD model was con

Both methods are applied to TAIPEI 101 subjected to earthquake or wind loading as the case study and the efficiency of both dampers will be discussed. The subject of this study is the vibration isolation effect of linear and nonlinear hysteretic single degree of freedom oscillators attached to a structure. The system of oscillators, attached to the main structure, reduce the amplitude of its structural response, over a wide frequency band excitation. This is achieved by distributing the natural frequencies of the attachments over an a priori specified frequency interval, which is related to the excitation power spectrum density. In order to introduce hysteretic restoring force to the oscillators and study its effect to the vibration reductio

A Tuned Liquid Damper belongs to the passive vibration control device family installed on the top of the structure which dissipates the external excitation energy through liquid sloshing. In order to design an efficient TLD, knowing optimum TLD parameters and liquid behaviour is of crucial importance. The main advantage of TLD when compared to other form of dampers is that they can be easily designed and implemented with low installation and maintenance cost. This study investigated the structure response when coupled with and without TLD under sinusoidal excitations. For our simplicity we can
